Integrate the reviewed DGDR v1beta2 implementation into one executable branch and add the first complete ClusterEnv contract test for:
v1beta2 Request
-> production admission
-> immutable typed Run snapshot
-> frozen public AISimulate input and execution bundle
-> standard `aisimulate recommend` Job + publisher sidecar
-> persisted DynamoGraphDeploymentCandidate
The history contains one signed squash commit per source PR. Review patches are separate commits whose titles identify the source PR and, where applicable, the on-top PR carrying the fix upstream. They follow the source commit directly unless they require a later stack layer. The cross-stack adapter-test consolidation therefore follows the Run-execution block whose runtime-image and lifecycle behavior it consolidates; candidate-topology resolution follows it before the E2E commits. Original source authorship is preserved.

DGDR v1beta2 API schema
The following is the complete native v1beta2 authoring shape. Inline comments state API requiredness and Admission defaults. status is included to show the complete resource contract, but it is controller-owned and must not be authored by clients. Admission defaults the typed API before persistence. An unchanged Request may run indefinitely. When its spec changes, the Request controller writes a causal cancellation annotation naming the newer generation onto the active Run. The Run controller deletes only that Run's execution Job, waits until its disappearance is observed, then retains the immutable Run and its Candidate history with phase: Failed and authoritative Completed=True, reason=Superseded. Only then does the Request controller start the newest generation; intermediate generations are coalesced. During Run lowering, spec.aisimulate.inputOverrides is applied last over the public AISimulate input, so its values win and null deletes a lowered field. Operator-owned dgdr_run identity, transport, runtime, and namespace fields remain forbidden in the patch and are reinjected by the Run controller.

API and lowering contract
Admission persists the small typed Kubernetes API. The Request controller copies it losslessly into an immutable Run. Only the Run controller lowers the snapshot:
public AISimulate static underlay
+ typed DGDR fields and admission defaults
+ spec.aisimulate.inputOverrides # authoritative over public search input
+ operator-owned dgdr_run values # identity and execution boundary
= immutable Run-owned ConfigMap input.yaml
= status.aisimulate.input
inputOverrides is an RFC 7386 JSON Merge Patch and wins over typed search fields. It cannot take ownership of Kubernetes execution. Admission rejects caller values for:
The Run controller reinjects those values after the merge patch. An override therefore cannot publish into another namespace, change object identity, escape the shared volume, bypass the typed candidate cap, or select a skewed runtime. Adapter behavior that remains inside that boundary, such as snapshot_interval_seconds, stays configurable.
The Run-owned ConfigMap is the restart boundary. It freezes the exact input, Planner and publisher images and pull policies, runtime-image source, normalized Dynamo version, GPUs per node, snapshot path, and image-pull secrets. The Job is always rendered from that snapshot, not from possibly changed Helm values.
The operator and its configured Planner image form one tested release bundle. Requests and Runs expose no image or AISimulate version override.
Execution shape
Every Run Job contains two containers:
Planner image: aisimulate recommend --stack dynamo --config ...
--output dgdr_run --output-dir ... --overwrite
|
| atomic snapshots on EmptyDir
v
Operator image: /dgdr-run-publisher -> Run status + DGDC resources
Only the publisher receives projected Kubernetes credentials. Nightly 86 provides the lifecycle callbacks merged in upstream #576, so dgdr_run always publishes live when AISimulate supplies a workload context and the operator supplies a snapshot directory. on_complete flushes and stops the live writer; on_failure writes the terminal failed snapshot. AISimulate still invokes write() after a successful recommendation to materialize the authoritative selected Candidates; that is the normal output-adapter contract, not a legacy fallback.
ClusterEnv contract
The filesystem-driven table test uses production admission and controllers plus production Planner and Operator images. It runs a bounded real AIC search through the standard AISimulate CLI; it does not use the old generator: direct shortcut. The golden contract verifies:
a hardware-free Request is admitted from a 12-GPU 8+4 inventory with budget 8; the immutable Run and status.aisimulate.input retain max_candidate_gpus: 8; and the materialized Candidate reports 0 < usedGpus <= 8;
one Request owns one immutable Run;
the Run reaches Succeeded with exactly one published Candidate reference;
status.aisimulate.input is the exact frozen input executed by the Job;
one real DGDC exists and is controlled by that Run;
its inline DGD contains materialized components;
resolved backend parameters and evaluation metrics match the reviewed golden.
The scenario fixes backend mode and bounds work only through public inputOverrides. The pinned-Nightly lifecycle contract test additionally runs AISimulate's real _run_recommendation callback dispatcher into dgdr_run: candidate and round callbacks must be buffered, completion must force their live-snapshot flush and stop the writer before the final output pass, and failure must produce the terminal failed snapshot. That callback-boundary test covers the lifecycle introduced by ai-dynamo/aisimulate#576; ClusterEnv separately covers the terminal handoff through the publisher and Kubernetes controllers.

Test structure
The review consolidated duplicated test machinery into existing tables and package-owned suites while retaining the unique behavioral boundaries:
Admission defaults and opt-outs are asserted once through the real API-server/webhook chain; only the exhaustive hardware resolver algorithm remains a direct unit table.
Publisher projection stays in pure plan tests, reconciliation tests cover ordering/retry/cache behavior, and Envtest owns server-side apply, status-subresource, resource-version, UID, and field-ownership semantics.
The Python output-adapter suite uses parameterized projection/materialization/configuration cases and deterministic events instead of fixed sleeps; context-manager, malformed-callback, coalescing, backoff, and pinned AISimulate lifecycle contracts remain covered.
Request-controller duplicates were removed without changing its manager/watch Envtest, RBAC Envtest, ClusterEnv scenario, or goldens.
Validation
Post-rebase generator drift check: make -C deploy/operator check passed (DeepCopy, CRDs, RBAC, API docs, Helm docs, clean tree).
Post-rebase Go suites: controller 78.595s, structural defaulting 11.009s, structural validation 21.344s, and GPU discovery 2.491s; all passed.
Post-rebase Linux Planner-image adapter suite: 68 passed in 2.11s, including candidate/round/completion/failure callbacks and candidate topology resolution.
Real ClusterEnv Request → admission → Run → AISimulate/AIC → publisher → Candidate scenario passed in 37.487s (28.53s scenario), including the 12-GPU 8+4 inventory resolving to budget 8 and numGpusPerNode: 8 end to end.
Earlier final-tree checks retained across the byte-identical rebase: operator golangci-lint reported 0 issues; publisher and API package suites passed; shared image-helper compatibility and SKU synchronization checks passed.
Production arm64 Planner and Operator overlay images were built and loaded into Kind for ClusterEnv. A separate full Planner-image rebuild reached the external NATS dependency clone and failed only after three TLS clone failures; no code or test failure was reported.
Repository hooks passed for every added/reworded commit; git diff --check is clean.
All 64 commits above origin/main are GPG-verified (%G? = G).

API, admission, and rollout
Publish end-user documentation for the DGDR v1beta2 Request → Run → Candidate workflow, including feature-gate enablement, a valid model-only YAML example, defaulting and validation behavior, status and observability, and the current limitations and follow-up boundaries.
Validate effective DGDR inputs against versioned JSON Schemas generated from AISimulate's Pydantic model, with update ratcheting and a pin-bump freshness check: #17518. Owner: @sttts.
Rename the public DGDR API sections from aisimulate to aisim before opening the API feature gate, including spec, status, lowering, generated artifacts, and documentation.
Open the DGDR v1beta2 API feature gate after the implementation and migration-sensitive naming are complete.
Separate Runtime and Planner image selection instead of deriving backend Runtime images from the Planner image. Add spec.image as the Runtime image-family source and spec.aisim.image as the Planner/AISimulate image, define their Helm-owned defaults and no-skew compatibility validation, and freeze both independently in each Run's execution snapshot. Today the Planner image may be digest-only. The Run snapshot freezes it unchanged and separately freezes a tagged runtime-image-source derived from the operator's Dynamo release version for backend image selection. The follow-up removes that inference by making Planner and Runtime image ownership explicit.
Run and publisher hardening
Make the source Request generation part of immutable Run identity instead of relying on the mutable nvidia.com/dgdr-request-generation annotation, or enforce equivalent annotation immutability in Admission.
Finish publisher trust-boundary hardening:
Treat deterministic snapshot, candidate, ownership, and immutable-object conflicts as terminal instead of retrying them indefinitely.
Enforce the frozen Run's recommendation.maxCandidates when projecting snapshot Candidates.
Remove the publisher ServiceAccount's unused permission to update Run finalizers.
Search and workload semantics
Implement full Pareto search, selection, publication, status, and admission support; only then admit objective.mode: Pareto. Owner: @deviv.
Add trace workloads through #17483, including the AISimulate generator path fixed by #17523. Owner: @hongkuanz.
Generated deployment and component coverage
Add DGD overrides by reusing the profiler's existing Go merge-patch support rather than introducing another patch implementation.
Design and add Planner, EPP, and other component support across the public API, AISimulate lowering, and DGD rendering.
CI and authorization coverage
Route AISimulate output-adapter and publisher-contract paths through the operator CI filter so adapter-only changes run their owning integration checks.
Add a full-chain ClusterEnv case with the restricted generated operator identity; keep the privileged setup path only for cluster preparation so the scenario detects RBAC drift.
Compatibility and test maintenance
Land the unset/null DGD block-size contract from ai-dynamo/aisimulate#609 through the Dynamo consumer regression in #17583: publish and pin the fixed AISimulate build, then remove the temporary block_size: 64 override and TODO(#17581) from the ClusterEnv scenario so it covers the runtime-default path.
Complete the AISimulate DGD-output test cleanup in #17588.
Align the hand-written DGDR Kubernetes API reference's vramMb text with the admitted 10% nominal-to-measured VRAM tolerance; the generated CRD and API references already document this behavior.
The pull request adds DGDR v1beta2 request and run APIs, admission defaulting and validation, AISimulate input lowering, request and run controllers, snapshot publishing, GPU discovery changes, deployment wiring, and documentation.

Explanation
The PR description is thorough and follows the template structure. It has Overview, Key Changes, Validation, and Issues and Ongoing Work sections, plus the checklist. The Issues section uses the required 'Closes #XXXX' line, but the description does not include it. It references 'Refs DGH-1426' instead. The Overview, Key Changes, and Validation sections give detailed, specific content covering the API schema, lowering contract, execution shape, ClusterEnv contract, and reported test results. The PR Issue Link check is advisory today, so the missing 'Closes' line does not block the check. The description is mostly complete, so the check passes.

Remove the v1beta2Ptr helper and use new(expr). The golangci-lintmodernize check fails on this helper.
The Pre Merge / operator job reports newexpr on v1beta2Ptr and its calls. The repository already uses new(true) and new(false), so new(expr) is the accepted form. Replace every call, not only the three that the linter lists. The other calls are on lines 201, 215, 230, 235, 238 and 244. Then delete the helper.

Update the dgdrV1Beta2.enabled description. It says the Run controller is missing, but this PR adds it.
registerControllers in deploy/operator/cmd/main.go now calls SetupDynamoGraphDeploymentRunV1beta2 when dgdrV1beta2Enabled is true. When dgdrV1Beta2.enabled is true, deploy/operator/cmd/main.go registers SetupDynamoGraphDeploymentRunV1beta2. That controller creates the AISimulate Job. Add a timeout marker and reduce the real sleeps in these pre-merge timing tests.
This module is scheduled pre_merge and parallel. Several tests use real sleeps with wall-clock assertions:
time.sleep(0.15) and time.sleep(0.2) in test_many_callbacks_in_one_interval_produce_one_periodic_write.
time.sleep(0.1) in test_callbacks_never_wait_for_a_slow_writer and in test_a_completed_search_flushes_stops_the_writer_and_stays_non_terminal.
time.sleep(0.6) in test_a_persistent_write_failure_does_not_spin_the_writer.
Many wait_for polling loops.
The pytest guidelines require a timeout marker on tests that sleep or poll. They also flag real sleeps in pre-merge unit tests. On a loaded parallel CI worker, the assertions snapshot_writes == 1 after 0.15 s (with a 0.5 s interval) and 1 <= seen <= 5 can flake.
Add a module-level timeout marker. Where possible, drive the writer with an injected clock or events instead of real sleeps.
As per path instructions: "Tests over 30 seconds, or with sleeps, polling, network calls, or subprocess waits, must have a timeout marker ... flag real sleeps in pre_merge unit tests."

Decode the publisher termination message before you put it in the condition.
WriteTerminationMessage writes the publisher's termination message as a JSON TerminalOutcome, for example {"phase":"Failed","message":"...","error":"..."}. This code copies terminated.Message into the Completed condition unchanged. Users therefore see a raw JSON blob in kubectl describe and in the Request status.
When the container is dgdrRunPublisherContainer, decode the message into dgdrrunpublisher.TerminalOutcome. Then join Message and Error into the condition message. If decoding fails, keep the raw text.

Regenerate the Run CRD. Its spec description contradicts the Go type comment.
The checked-in schema describes the Run flow as "Run creators resolve optional Request inputs and the final AISimulate parameters before persisting the Run." The Go doc comment on DynamoGraphDeploymentRunSpec describes a different flow. Request admission resolves structural defaults before the Request controller copies the spec. The Run reconciler lowers the immutable snapshot plus inputOverrides once and records the result in status.aisimulate.input.
The schema therefore states that a Run already holds its final AISimulate parameters. The source says the reconciler produces them later, in status. The schema also still uses the older wording "immutable, resolved copy," while the Go comment says "immutable snapshot." Running make manifests will regenerate the description from the Go comment and remove the drift.

No P0 or P1 found at head a2f69a0e46. Two P2 items and one P3 item are open.
[P2] Still open, lowered from P1: a vLLM Request without a block-size override fails with the pinned AISimulate, and its terminal snapshot has no Candidate. The v1beta2 API is off by default, and a block size in inputOverrides avoids the failure. #17581 and #17583 track the fix. Details are in the thread on container/deps/requirements.aisimulate.txt.
[P2] New: no CI job runs components/src/dynamo/aisimulate/tests/dgdr_run/test_adapter.py, because pytest reuses the module of dgd/test_adapter.py for it.
[P3] New: dynamo-graph-deployment-request.mdx:203 still states the exact-match rule for vramMb.
Fixed: a nominal vramMb within 10% of the discovered VRAM derives totalGpus (f4a03e2582).
Fixed: a discovered node width above the int32 range is rejected instead of wrapped (48ba217d53).
Still fixed: the sweeper UID 1000, the 8+4 selected-shape budget, and the replay test without the strict xfail.

6556 passed, 3 skipped, 0 failed.
Deliberate breaks
Each break fails the tests that cover it: the exact VRAM comparison again, no sweeper UID, TotalGPUs as the v1beta2 budget, or no int32 check. A break of the new candidate-topology code fails 16 adapter tests once the file runs.

Overview
Integrate the reviewed DGDR v1beta2 implementation into one executable branch and add the first complete ClusterEnv contract test for:
The history contains one signed squash commit per source PR. Review patches are separate commits whose titles identify the source PR and, where applicable, the on-top PR carrying the fix upstream. They follow the source commit directly unless they require a later stack layer. The cross-stack adapter-test consolidation therefore follows the Run-execution block whose runtime-image and lifecycle behavior it consolidates; candidate-topology resolution follows it before the E2E commits. Original source authorship is preserved.
Key Changes
DGDR v1beta2 API schema
The following is the complete native v1beta2 authoring shape. Inline comments state API requiredness and Admission defaults.
statusis included to show the complete resource contract, but it is controller-owned and must not be authored by clients. The commentedv1beta1members are lossless conversion carriers, not alternative user-facing inputs.Admission defaults the typed API before persistence. An unchanged Request may run indefinitely. When its spec changes, the Request controller writes a causal cancellation annotation naming the newer generation onto the active Run. The Run controller deletes only that Run's execution Job, waits until its disappearance is observed, then retains the immutable Run and its Candidate history with
phase: Failedand authoritativeCompleted=True,reason=Superseded. Only then does the Request controller start the newest generation; intermediate generations are coalesced. During Run lowering,spec.aisimulate.inputOverridesis applied last over the public AISimulate input, so its values win andnulldeletes a lowered field. Operator-owneddgdr_runidentity, transport, runtime, and namespace fields remain forbidden in the patch and are reinjected by the Run controller.Included work
API and lowering contract
Admission persists the small typed Kubernetes API. The Request controller copies it losslessly into an immutable Run. Only the Run controller lowers the snapshot:
inputOverridesis an RFC 7386 JSON Merge Patch and wins over typed search fields. It cannot take ownership of Kubernetes execution. Admission rejects caller values for:The Run controller reinjects those values after the merge patch. An override therefore cannot publish into another namespace, change object identity, escape the shared volume, bypass the typed candidate cap, or select a skewed runtime. Adapter behavior that remains inside that boundary, such as
snapshot_interval_seconds, stays configurable.The Run-owned ConfigMap is the restart boundary.
Only the publisher receives projected Kubernetes credentials. Nightly 86 provides the lifecycle callbacks merged in upstream #576, so
dgdr_runalways publishes live when AISimulate supplies a workload context and the operator supplies a snapshot directory.on_completeflushes and stops the live writer;on_failurewrites the terminal failed snapshot. AISimulate still invokeswrite()after a successful recommendation to materialize the authoritative selected Candidates; that is the normal output-adapter contract, not a legacy fallback.ClusterEnv contract
The filesystem-driven table test uses production admission and controllers plus production Planner and Operator images. It runs a bounded real AIC search through the standard AISimulate CLI; it does not use the old
generator: directshortcut. The golden contract verifies:status.aisimulate.inputretainmax_candidate_gpus: 8; and the materialized Candidate reports0 < usedGpus <= 8;Succeededwith exactly one published Candidate reference;status.aisimulate.inputis the exact frozen input executed by the Job;The scenario fixes backend mode and bounds work only through public
inputOverrides. The pinned-Nightly lifecycle contract test additionally runs AISimulate's real_run_recommendationcallback dispatcher intodgdr_run: candidate and round callbacks must be buffered, completion must force their live-snapshot flush and stop the writer before the final output pass, and failure must produce the terminal failed snapshot. That callback-boundary test covers the lifecycle introduced by ai-dynamo/aisimulate#576; ClusterEnv separately covers the terminal handoff through the publisher and Kubernetes controllers.Upstreaming
inputOverrides, structural validation,status.aisimulate.input, and current Go-lint cleanup: refactor(operator): keep AISimulate execution operator-owned devivasudevan/dynamo#4Test structure
The review consolidated duplicated test machinery into existing tables and package-owned suites while retaining the unique behavioral boundaries:
