fix(operator): aggregate discovered GPU counts across matching nodes - #17262
Same-SKU nodes with 8 and 4 GPUs currently produce a default DGDR budget of 16. Discovery now reports their aggregate of 12 while retaining the maximum GPUsPerNode and matching NodesWithGPUs.
Sum matching GPUs in both DCGM and node-label discovery. Count each Kubernetes node once when multiple DCGM exporters report it; a failed exporter does not prevent another exporter on that node from contributing.
Use the aggregate for v1beta1 hardware.totalGpus, applying the existing 32-GPU cap after summing and preserving explicit totals.
Correct the source API comments and regenerate the CRD, Pydantic model, and both API references to agree with the curated DGDR page.
Existing DGDRs with a persisted totalGpus are unchanged after an upgrade: enrichment only fills a missing value. The API type edits are comment-only; serialization, schemas apart from descriptions, and conversion behavior are unchanged, so conversion code and tests need no changes.
Start with deploy/operator/internal/gpu/discovery.go and enrichHardwareFromDiscovery.
Validation
Validated with Go 1.27.3 and the repository-pinned Kubernetes 1.30.0 envtest assets:
Full operator test package set used by make test, including ./cmd/crd-apply, with go test -p 3 ... -count=1: passed.
Focused discovery, enrichment, profiler Job, and concurrent DCGM tests with -race: passed.
go vet -p 3 ./...: passed.
make lint (golangci-lint v2.15.0): 0 issues.
make check: passed with a clean tree after regeneration.
Documentation lint, generated Kubernetes reference check, fern check, and fern docs broken-links: passed. Fern telemetry was disabled using its built-in settings.
The regression tests reproduced 16 instead of 12 and 32 instead of 30 with the old calculation. The duplicate-exporter regression reproduced 3 nodes / 20 GPUs instead of 2 nodes / 12 GPUs before deduplication. The existing envtest verifies that 12 is persisted and passed to the profiler Job.
The separate enrichment table uses real node-label discovery to exercise heterogeneous multi-node budgets and the cap; the existing enrichment table mocks one DCGM exporter. Existing baseline and cache tests are reused rather than repeating those scenarios in every new table row.
Envtest required a local API-server wrapper setting --advertise-address=127.0.0.1 because the execution environment has no default route; this is outside the repository.
This PR implements shared discovery and the v1beta1 consumer on main. The v1beta2 budget defaulting implementation is still in open PR #16661. Its linked TODO should consume found.TotalGPUs and gain the corresponding admission regression once these changes are available. Keep #17192 open until that consumer is updated.
The aggregate describes discovered inventory, not schedulable free capacity; placement fragmentation, node readiness, and existing allocations remain outside this change.

Bug Fixes
GPU budgets now reflect the sum of GPUs on matching discovered nodes, including nodes with different GPU counts. Budgets remain capped at 32 when no total is specified; an explicit total takes precedence.
Documentation
Clarified automatic GPU SKU selection and how discovered nodes determine the GPU budget.
👋 Hi Pranjulcr7! Thank you for contributing to ai-dynamo/dynamo.
Just a reminder: The NVIDIA Test Github Validation CI runs an essential subset of the testing framework to quickly catch errors.Your PR reviewers may elect to test the changes comprehensively before approving your changes.
GPU discovery now records the summed GPU count across matching nodes. Hardware enrichment uses that total when Hardware.TotalGPUs is unset and retains the 32-GPU cap. Tests and API documentation cover the updated totals.
GPUInfo now includes the total GPU count across matching nodes. DCGM and node-label discovery populate it. Tests cover SKU filtering and heterogeneous node counts. The API documentation updates the auto-detection wording and describes the summed total.
Use discovered totals in hardware enrichment deploy/operator/internal/controller/dynamographdeploymentrequest_controller.go, deploy/operator/internal/controller/enrich_hardware_test.go, deploy/operator/internal/controller/dynamographdeploymentrequest_controller_envtest_test.go
When Hardware.TotalGPUs is unset, enrichment uses the discovered total and applies the existing cap. Tests cover explicit totals, repeated enrichment, and discovery from nodes with different GPU counts.
Clusters with multiple DCGM exporters on one node can receive an inflated profiling GPU budget. Deduplicate by node before merging unless that configuration is explicitly excluded.

Explanation
The title names the main change: GPU counts discovered across matching nodes are now summed (aggregated) instead of using a per-node maximum times node count. It follows the conventional-commit style and fits the changeset, which adds TotalGPUs to GPUInfo, sums matching nodes in DCGM and node-label discovery, and uses the aggregate for v1beta1 hardware.totalGpus.

Original discussion: This remains present: DCGM discovery appends one aggregation entry per exporter pod and sums entries without deduplicating nodeName, so multiple matching exporters on one node inflate both NodesWithGPUs and TotalGPUs.
@peilii@sttts@tedzhouhk — thank you for reviewing #15923. Could you review this GPU-discovery fix when you have a chance?
Updated in 15eb6ec: corrected the source API comments and regenerated the references, removed redundant test rows/cache checks, and deduplicated DCGM exporters by Kubernetes node with a regression covering partial scrape failure. The full operator suite, focused race tests, vet, lint, make check, documentation checks, and fern docs broken-links all pass locally. The description includes upgrade/conversion notes and the remaining v1beta2 dependency.
Could a maintainer also run /ok to test 7760d54? All commits have DCO sign-offs but are not GitHub-Verified, so automatic fork CI approval is unavailable. The previous external-link CI failure was a timeout on the unchanged GNU Make URL; its internal Markdown link check passed.
