🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Skip the test outside the supported Python range for aisimulate.
aisimulate is installed only for Python 3.11 through 3.13. On other versions, metadata.distribution("aisimulate") raises PackageNotFoundError. The test then fails in a pre_merge unit run. The existing test_installed_aisimulate_matches_the_declared_release handles this case with a skip.
Add the same version guard to the test.

Previously reported defects still present:
- Original discussion: The previously reported Python-version guard is still absent: this pre_merge unit test calls metadata.distribution("aisimulate") on line 80, but AISimulate is only installed for Python 3.11 through 3.13, so unsupported Python runs can fail instead of skipping.
- Original discussion: The previously reported Python-version guard issue is still present. The project only installs
aisimulatefor Python >=3.11 and <3.14, but the new pre-merge test still callsmetadata.distribution("aisimulate")without the skip guard used by adjacent AISimulate dependency tests, so Python 3.10 or 3.14 pre-merge runs will fail withPackageNotFoundErrorinstead of skipping. - Original discussion: The test still calls metadata.distribution("aisimulate") without the Python 3.11-3.13 guard used by the existing AISimulate metadata tests, while the project dependency only installs aisimulate for that Python range; unsupported Python pre-merge runs will still fail with PackageNotFoundError instead of skipping.
- Original discussion: Verified still present: the new pre_merge test unconditionally calls metadata.distribution("aisimulate"), but the project only installs aisimulate for Python >=3.11 and <3.14. Existing AISimulate dependency tests skip outside that range, so this test will fail instead of skip in unsupported Python environments.

The test shells out to go run ./hack/normalize_upgrade_snapshot (cwd deploy/operator), but the runtime test container has no go executable, so subprocess raises FileNotFoundError. It fails on every attempt, including the Early Flake Detection retries, so it is deterministic, not flaky.

Closing this PR because the v1beta2 admission-warning catalog synchronization check already landed through #17308. The existing The remaining change in this PR only adds a comparison against the legacy v1beta1 CRD enum. We do not need that additional coverage, so there is no remaining change to merge here. |
Summary
Extend the existing Operator hardware-catalog smoke test to compare the generated DGDR v1beta1
spec.hardware.gpuSkuCRD enum with the system definitions packaged by the pinned AISimulate wheel. Exact, bidirectional exception sets expose added, removed, or renamed identifiers and stale exceptions during dependency bumps.Context and compatibility
DGDR v1beta1 sends
gpuSkuto AISimulate as its system identifier, but its closed Kubernetes enum and AISimulate's packaged registry are maintained independently. This test checks the CRD schema enforced by the API server against packagedaisimulate_core/systems/*.yamlfiles containinggpuandnodesystem definitions. The rebase updates the exceptions for current
mainand its AISimulate Nightly 87 pin:gb200is now in both registries,vr200_hecateis no longer packaged, andvr_nvl72is currently Dynamo-only. The comparison remains exact in both directions. Both checks live in
deploy/operator/hack/test_aisimulate_hardware_catalog.pyand reuse its AISimulate catalog reader. The existing check covers v1beta2 known-SKU hints and API documentation; the additional check covers the v1beta1 admission enum. The Operator-owned file already participates in Planner CI selection. This PR changes one test file and does not change API validation, discovery, defaulting, or runtime translation.Closes #15718
