- Around line 90-96: Update the RBAC markers near the
`dynamographdeploymentruns` permissions to grant the candidate permissions
required by `reconcilePublisherAccess`: add access to
`dynamographdeploymentcandidates` and its `status` subresource with the
requested verbs, then regenerate the operator Role.
- Around line 109-111: Handle permanent Invalid errors from Job creation
separately from transient errors in the controller’s Job creation path. Mark the
Run as Phase=Failed and Completed=True with reason InvalidInput, then return
without retrying; if writing the status fails, return that error. Preserve the
existing retry behavior for other Job creation errors.
Review comments at @deploy/operator/internal/dgdrrunpublisher/reconciler.go:
- Around line 161-166: Update the final-pass flow around `Completion.Finish` so
candidate state comes from the live API reader, not the informer cache, before
finishing. Identify final passes using `desired.Terminal || exited` and pass
that context into `apply`; use the API reader already wired into
`clientWriter.Reader` to list candidates on those passes, preserving cached
reads for non-final passes.
Review comments at @deploy/operator/internal/dgdrrunpublisher/snapshot.go:
- Around line 99-104: Update validateManifest to use decodeManifest with a

decoding errors are returned as protocol violations during snapshot parsing.

Focused review of the DGDR v1beta2 Run controller. Inline comments cover the remaining execution-contract, ownership, registry, lifecycle, snapshot-path, image-identity, and upgrade-compatibility gaps.

Two remaining API-contract comments: make the effective-input inspection contract explicit and freeze the actual runner artifact rather than a mutable tag.

Summary
Execute every immutable v1beta2
DynamoGraphDeploymentRunas one isolated AISimulate Kubernetes Job and reflect the exact frozen input and Job lifecycle in Run status. The Request and Run controllers keep separate ownership:
the Request controller copies the admission-defaulted typed
NativeSearchInputinto an immutable Run;the Run controller lowers that snapshot, applies caller
inputOverridesto the public AISimulate search input, and then injects operator-owneddgdr_runidentity and execution values;a Run-owned ConfigMap freezes the final
input.yaml, Planner and publisher images and pull policies, runtime-image source, normalized Dynamo version, GPUs per node, snapshot path, and image-pull secrets;status.aisimulate.inputrecords the exact document mounted into the Job;the Job runs the standard public CLI:
The Job always has two containers. The operator-configured Planner image runs AISimulate, while the operator image runs the dedicated
/dgdr-run-publisherexecutable. The publisher remains a separate command from the long-running/managerprocess while shipping in the same Operator image. They share only the snapshot volume; only the publisher receives projected Kubernetes credentials. The operator and Planner image are one tested release bundle. A Request or Run cannot select a skewed Planner/AISimulate image or version. The controller derives the Planner image from the existing
--dgdr-default-imagesetting and does not persist that deployment choice in the DGDR API.Refs DGH-1426.
Lowering and ownership
inputOverridesis authoritative over the public recommendation input, but not over Kubernetes identity or execution wiring:For example, callers may tune an adapter behavior that does not escape the Run sandbox:
Admission rejects caller values for
dgdr_run.name,namespace,snapshot_dir,runtime_image,runtime_version_override,num_gpus_per_node,max_candidates, andderive_runtime_images. The controller reinjects those fields after merge-patch lowering, so an opaque override cannot publish into another namespace, change resource identity, escape the shared volume, bypass the typed candidate cap, or select a skewed runtime. The frozen ConfigMap is the restart boundary. Subsequent reconciliation reads that snapshot instead of deriving execution settings again from mutable Helm configuration. Cache lag is distinguished from real deletion through the uncached API reader; a genuinely missing snapshot while its Job exists is terminalized as
InvalidExecutionrather than reconstructed with possibly changed values.Production CI images may use an opaque Git-SHA tag. When a sibling Planner or backend image is derived, only a shared release tag is transferred. Repository-specific OCI digests are never copied to a different repository; digest-only source references are rejected.
Follow-up: resolve the operator-configured Planner tag to a digest-pinned
tag@digestreference before freezing a Run, while retaining the release tag separately for sibling Runtime-image derivation. This remains operator-owned and does not reintroduce image or version fields into the DGDR API. The broader Planner/Runtime image split is listed in #17308.Controller behavior
dynamouser so kubelet can enforcerunAsNonRoot, while leaving the publisher on its own image UID;status.aisimulate.input;jobRef,phase, execution timestamps, andCompleted, while preserving publisher-owned progress and candidate status;Completed=True, reason=Superseded; This PR depends on the v1beta2 admission, Request-controller, publisher, output-adapter, and public-input changes. The branch includes the current publisher terminal-outcome, typed-manifest, retry, and cache-observation completion contract from devivasudevan/dynamo#5, because the Run controller depends on that exact termination protocol. It also depends on #17407 for the shared sibling-image helper; that fix is intentionally owned by a separate v1beta1 profiler PR because the incorrect OCI-digest propagation predates v1beta2. This branch now follows the current #17407 contract exactly: implicit
latestremains implicit, a same-repository digest is preserved, a digest is dropped when deriving a different repository, and the existing profiler import path re-exports the shared helpers. Until those prerequisites land, their commits also appear in this branch.Validation
