fix: model nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4 ModelOpt MIXED_PRECISION targets-only quantization - #610
nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4@e3b8f9f2fad29727dfa95e766c5cac18ea1414bf is a ModelOpt MIXED_PRECISION export, not a pure NVFP4 export with exclusion globs. Its quantized_layers map (identical in config.json and hf_quant_config.json)
has 87 entries:
model.layers.{0,1,2}.mlp.{gate_proj,up_proj,gate_up_proj,down_proj}: FP8,
per-tensor with a static input_scale (SDK fp8_static);
model.layers.{3..77}.mlp.experts: NVFP4, group size 16;
Attention (q/kv/o and the DSA indexer), shared experts, router, lm_head and the
embedding are not listed. In the safetensors index they carry a bare .weight,
so they are BF16.
Both runtimes load unlisted modules unquantized:
vLLM v0.24.0 (ee0da84ab9e04ac7610e28580af62c365e898389), vllm/model_executor/layers/quantization/modelopt.py: ModelOptMixedPrecisionConfig.get_quant_method (L2464-2490) checks is_layer_excluded first (L2475-2477). It then resolves the algorithm with _resolve_quant_algo (L2392-2445): the exact key, then the packed shards from packed_modules_mapping, then a descendant key (key.startswith(prefix + ".")).
A LinearBase with no entry gets UnquantizedLinearMethod(). The source
comment reads "Layer not in quantized_layers — leave unquantized" (L2489-2490).
SGLang v0.5.14 (49e384ce9d304648e9959666ecb8ce8cd98d0deb), python/sglang/srt/layers/quantization/modelopt_quant.py: _resolve_quant_algo
(L734-759) uses the same exact/packed/descendant order. get_quant_method
(L761-792) returns UnquantizedLinearMethod() for excluded layers (L770-773)
and for any LinearBase that resolves to neither FP8 nor NVFP4 (L778).
SGLang builds the GLM shared expert as its own DeepseekV2MLP(quant_config=...)
(python/sglang/srt/models/deepseek_v2.py L705-714). Fusion into the routed
MoE is gated off for DeepEP and for moe_ep_size > 1 (L2650-2715), so the
shared expert stays BF16 on large EP too.
Before this PR:
The SDK read only the exclusion globs. With the real config, attention was
priced at the coarse fp8_static mode, a DSA key that has no silicon rows. The
result was 36/36 DATA_MISS with fallback denied (b200_sxm/b300_sxm/gb200/gb300
x SGLang 0.5.14, vLLM 0.24.0, TRT-LLM 1.3.0rc20 x 3 layouts).
The packaged nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4 config and hf_quant_config were byte copies
of nvidia/GLM-5.2-NVFP4. As a result, the dense prefix was priced BF16 instead
of FP8, and head_dim was 192 instead of the upstream 64.
helpers.modelopt_mixed_precision_targets scopes the rule. It applies only when
all three hold:
the export is MIXED_PRECISION;
it has a non-empty quantized_layers map;
it declares no base lane. nvidia/DeepSeek-V4-{Flash,Pro}-NVFP4 declare quant_method: fp8 + weight_block_size, so they keep their FP8-block lane and stay out of scope.
For in-scope exports, a module with no entry is treated like a glob exclusion
(BF16). The modules covered are:
the attention projection groups, through attention_projection_exclusions.
That one function reaches DSV32, DeepSeek and Task._attention_quant_identity_mixed;
the shared experts;
the DSV32 SGLang dense prefix.
Real exclusion globs still win.
A key counts only when it names the module exactly or names a descendant of it.
It must also sit in model.layers.<i> with i < num_hidden_layers and must not
be covered by an exclusion. Ancestor keys quantize nothing, as in both runtimes.
Neither runtime reads the checkpoint's packed_modules_mapping. The SGLang dense
prefix therefore resolves the fused gate_up_proj by its own key. If the shards
are listed without that key, the build raises.
Guard: suppose a listed attention, shared-expert or dense GEMM has an algorithm
that differs from the inferred coarse gemm_quant_mode (for example NVFP4
attention next to FP8 dense layers). The build then raises, unless the mode is
explicit.
Coarse mode inference is unchanged. The per-algorithm mapping is factored into _mixed_precision_algo_gemm_mode, and the outputs for all six other packaged
MIXED_PRECISION bundles are pinned.
Part B: bundle the upstream export
model_configs/nvidia--GLM-5.3-NVFP4_{config,hf_quant_config}.json are now
unmodified copies of the upstream files at e3b8f9f2. Both were re-downloaded
via resolve/<revision> and byte-compared. Their sha256 values are b0b6b9ab922a82e3688bc39a4117bc443e106fcf88969ef48b3627778f4bdf7b and 13799d4fed353c20dde2264fbdd7f68a780b514782f8d80bba96ac5e44aa9bba.
model_configs/GLM53_NVFP4_PROVENANCE.md is new. It ships next to the configs
in the wheel and sdist, as GLM53FLASH_PROVENANCE.md does. It records the source
and reproduces the full license texts (see the license note below).
THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md gains a section "NVIDIA GLM-5.3-NVFP4 model configuration
files", placed after the GLM-5.3-Flash section. The packaged copy is
byte-identical, and scripts/ci/check_packaged_legal_files.py passes.
DefaultHFModels gets a short comment on nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4.
Tests in tests/unit/sdk/models/test_modelopt_mixed_precision_targets.py:
sha256 pins for both files;
the bundle id resolves gemm fp8_static, moe nvfp4, kv fp8, and d == 64;
the native-graph tests (DSA gemm bf16, all four projection groups bf16, shared
gate_up/ffn2 bf16, MoE nvfp4, SGLang dense prefix (3, fp8_static)), the
explicit-mode test, the large-EP shared-expert test and the SILICON coverage test
now run on both the synthetic export and the packaged id. SILICON covers
{b200_sxm, b300_sxm, gb200, gb300} x {SGLang 0.5.14, vLLM 0.24.0, TRT-LLM 1.3.0rc20}
x {tp4/moe_tp1/ep4, tp8/moe_tp1/ep8, tp4/moe_tp4/ep1}, prefill bs1 isl 4096 and
decode bs32, with fallback denied;
the structural guard now lists nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4 (DEEPSEEKV32) as the only
DEEPSEEK/KIMIK25/DEEPSEEKV32 bundle in targets-only scope.
Untargeted collector case sets are unchanged on SM90/100/103. nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4
stays deduplicated behind nvidia/GLM-5.2-NVFP4 for MoE (same routed-expert NVFP4
geometry). A targeted SGLang DSA mla_module run with --model-path nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4
(COLLECTOR_MODEL_PATH) on SM90 changes: it now emits 88 context and 8 generation
cases, where before it emitted 0 (see the collector follow-up below). Targeted runs on
SM100/103 are unchanged (88/8). The existing geometry, case-set, FPM-intake and DSA
index-reuse tests pass on the real config.
Full unit suite (-m unit, test_moe_dispatch.py ignored): 12,808 passed, 30 skipped, 3 failed. The failures are pre-existing and environmental; they also fail at cad8a0262 without this change: test_fpm_learned.py::test_feature_list_is_unique_and_bounded (no sklearn) and two test_support_cli.py tests (the subprocess cannot import collector). -p no:timeout also causes 32 collection errors in two e2e files, because their timeout marker is unregistered. With the plugin loaded those files collect, and -m unit deselects all of them.
Parity suites: test_engine_step_parity.py 304 passed, test_compile_engine_parity.py 85 passed, with no golden change. The only GLM parity cases are zai-org/GLM-5 and nvidia/GLM-5.2-NVFP4.
scripts/ci/check_packaged_legal_files.py, scripts/ci/check_copyright.py
and the CODEOWNERS strict coverage check: pass.
sdist (maturin sdist): contains GLM53_NVFP4_PROVENANCE.md and both configs
with the pinned sha256.

in the adp=1 layouts, and move between -0.51% and +0.01%.
Every other model is byte-identical.
In the gate's sampled layouts, vLLM and TRT-LLM are unchanged: they do not model
the dense prefix, and attention and shared experts are BF16 on both sides. The gate
does not sample large EP (see "Large EP" below).
Part A alone, on the old bundle, reported no differences.
Cause: the SGLang dense prefix (layers 0-2) now runs the listed FP8 lane
(fp8_static, or the explicit mode) instead of BF16 from the GLM-5.2 globs.

KV bytes per token are unchanged (60,216 B, FP8 KV).
SGLang: KV capacity rises by 0.17 GB because the dense-prefix weights are FP8
instead of BF16. KV capacity is unaffected by head_dim, because SGLang's of_total
budget excludes activations. The breakdown's activation estimate still drops
(3.94 -> 1.93 GB), and so does the static/agg memory and OOM estimate (next section).
vLLM/TRT-LLM: the activation estimate drops from 3.62 to 1.21 GB because the
upstream head_dim is 64 (see "head_dim 64 kept" below). TRT-LLM gets 90% of that freed memory.
SGLang memory and OOM estimate (not covered by the gate)
head_dim feeds the activation-memory width on every backend
(BaseBackend._get_memory_usage, h = num_heads * head_size), and SGLang's OOM
check subtracts the full non-KV footprint. collect_static.py uses run_static_latency_only, so the gate does not see this.

Large EP (not covered by the gate)
For nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4, SGLang and vLLM large-EP shared-expert GEMMs
(gate_ffn1/ffn2, e.g. tp1/ep16/adp16 with DeepEP) move from nvfp4 to bfloat16,
so shared-expert latency and weights rise slightly. TRT-LLM is unchanged (bf16
before and after). Cause: the real bundle is in targets-only scope, so the
"Large-EP shared experts" rule below applies. Part A alone left these at nvfp4,
because the old bundle is exclusion-style.
Decisions and follow-ups
Large-EP shared experts (scoped to targets-only). When the rule is in scope,
every backend prices the shared expert with the BF16 override. This matches
SGLang deepseek_v2.py L705-714 / L2650-2715 and vLLM.
Exclusion-style checkpoints keep the transcribed trtllm-only override.
GLM-5/5.1/5.2-NVFP4 therefore stay nvfp4 on SGLang/vLLM large EP, and TestGLMSharedExpertQuantMode::test_sglang_uses_the_model_wide_gemm_mode still passes.
The same SGLang source shows the legacy nvfp4 shared expert is also wrong for those
checkpoints. Fixing it moves other models' large-EP predictions, which the gate does
not sample.
Follow-up: drop the trtllm-only gate for all DSV32 exclusion-style checkpoints, with
its own evidence and re-pinned test.
head_dim 64 kept (no override).
The bundled config must stay byte-identical. utils._parse_hf_config_json reads d = head_dim uniformly.
For DSA, d only feeds the generic activation width num_heads * head_size
that every backend's memory estimate uses. It does not affect the DSA latency op
keys or KV bytes per token. It does move vLLM/TRT-LLM KV capacity and SGLang's
static/agg memory and OOM estimate (see the two memory sections above).
Upstream, 64 is a transformers re-serialization of the rope dim
(zai-org/GLM-5.3@ba32f8c1 has 192). zai-org GLM-5/5.1 and GLM-5-NVFP4 already
resolve d=64.
The decision is pinned by a test.
Follow-up: derive the DSA activation width from MLA geometry
(e.g. num_heads * qk_head_dim) for all DSA architectures and all backends, with
its own gate and memory report.
Collector (for the collector owners, out of scope here). collector/sglang/collect_mla_module.py::_model_native_gemm_quant returns None
for this MIXED_PRECISION export (it returned nvfp4 for the old GLM-5.2-NVFP4 copy): hf_quant_configquant_algo is MIXED_PRECISION and quant_method is modelopt.
Untargeted case sets are unchanged on SM90/100/103. On SM90, GLM-5.3-NVFP4 now
passes the capability filter and loses the BF16 DSA dedup only through a max_position_embeddings tie with zai-org/GLM-5.2 (both 1048576). SM100/103
behavior is unchanged.
Targeted runs change on SM90. The case-builder filter (collect_mla_module.py
L618-619) no longer drops this id, so a targeted --model-path nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4
run builds 96 cases (88 context, 8 generation) and launches SGLang, which accepts modelopt_mixed from SM80. Before, it produced 0 cases at that filter and never
reached the run_mla_module guard (L1054-1060).
The existing Hopper invariant test
(test_targeted_glm5_nvfp4_context_is_not_emitted_on_hopper) is pinned only for nvidia/GLM-5-NVFP4.
Follow-up (per the collector rules layer_permissions.md and failure_handling.md): either make _model_native_gemm_quant return nvfp4 for a MIXED_PRECISION export with an
NVFP4 entry in quantized_layers (for example via aisimulate_core.sdk.models.helpers._infer_quant_modes_from_raw_config,
moe_quant_mode nvfp4), or decide explicitly that these Hopper BF16-attention rows
are valid. Either way, extend the Hopper test to cover nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4.

Following the GLM-5.3-Flash precedent:
the configs are unmodified copies;
THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md (root and packaged copy) names the source, revision,
copyright owners (NVIDIA CORPORATION & AFFILIATES for the quantized export;
Z.AI for the base configuration) and the license statements as declared upstream;
the full GLM-5.3 License (byte-identical to upstream LICENSE, English and Chinese)
and the NVIDIA Open Model Agreement text are preserved in the distributed model_configs/GLM53_NVFP4_PROVENANCE.md.
The agreement text was extracted from the page's HTML, from the title through the
closing "End of terms and conditions". It matches the page text word for word
(1,210 words, checked against the cached copy and a fresh copy): the character
sequence is identical, and the only whitespace differences come from inline markup.
This is the first NVIDIA Open Model Agreement material in the notices.
This branch is rebased on #563, which renamed the zai-org GLM-5.3 bundle ids and added the "GLM-5.3 model configuration files" notice section before the GLM-5.3-Flash section. This PR's notice section stays after the GLM-5.3-Flash section.
Risk: Medium. Three areas need human attention: ModelOpt target parsing and scope; BF16 handling and GEMM-mode validation, including SGLang’s fused dense-prefix projections; and the accuracy, provenance, and licensing of the replacement GLM-5.3 configuration files.
Changes
For targets-only ModelOpt MIXED_PRECISION exports, unlisted attention projections, shared experts, and dense-prefix projections resolve to BF16. Exclusion globs remain active. Conflicting target algorithms and listed non-expert GEMMs that disagree with the inferred coarse mode are rejected, unless the GEMM mode is explicit.
Adds target-resolution and validation helpers in helpers.py. DeepSeek and DeepSeekV32 model creation use them. Targets-only exports also change large-EP shared-expert handling.
Replaces the packaged GLM-5.3-NVFP4 configuration files with files pinned to upstream revision e3b8f9f2. The configs describe mixed precision, FP8 KV cache, and per-layer quantized targets. Adds provenance, hashes, and license texts.
Adds tests for target parsing, model behavior, dense-prefix projections, packaged configs, quantization modes, and silicon coverage.
Evidence and limitations
The supplied source and test summaries identify the new helpers, their model call sites, and tests for target scope, fused projections, and mode validation. The packaged files and provenance document identify the pinned revision and hashes. This inspection did not independently verify upstream file parity or run tests.
The PR context reports 159 passing targeted tests. It reports 12,808 passing, 30 skipped, and 3 failures in the full unit suite, with the failures attributed to environmental causes. It also reports passing parity, legal-file, copyright, and CODEOWNERS checks. The prediction gate reports 0 regressions and 0 status changes across 174,420 rows, with 141 drift rows. KV-capacity, SGLang memory/OOM, and large-EP effects are outside that gate. These are reported results, not independently verified here.
No current review findings were supplied, so review severity counts are unavailable. The three full-suite failures remain unresolved in the supplied evidence. Test completion beyond the reported suites and prediction gate is not established. The stated collector follow-up remains out of scope. These gaps limit merge-readiness assessment; they do not establish an implementation defect.
The PR adds a GLM-5.3-NVFP4 mixed-precision configuration and provenance records. It adds ModelOpt target parsing and validation, then updates DeepSeek-family model creation to apply targets-only quantization behavior. Unit tests cover target resolution, model graphs, packaged configuration, and performance diagnostics.
The packaged configuration assigns FP8 to dense MLP projections in layers 0–2 and NVFP4 to expert MLPs in layers 3–77. The notices and provenance document record the upstream revision, hashes, attribution, and licenses. Tests check the packaged configuration and its inferred modes.
ai-dynamo/aisimulate#585: Adds ordered dense-prefix grouping for the native AFD model graph; this PR extends related dense-prefix quantization handling to targets-only ModelOpt exports.

Full details: Modeling And Data Evidence
Explanation
The PR supplies provenance and reproducible modeling evidence. The GLM-5.3 files are pinned to Hugging Face revision e3b8f9f2... with SHA-256 values in GLM53_NVFP4_PROVENANCE.md, and the new tests recompute both hashes. The tests use synthetic and packaged exports, cite pinned vLLM/SGLang behavior as an independent oracle, assert before/after graph semantics, and include a negative control for the former coarse attention mode. The silicon checks use fallback denial across four systems, three runtimes, and three layouts, and require sourced positive latency rows. The supplied prediction-gate summary reports 0 regressions and 0 status changes across 174,420 rows, with drift reported separately. This is not an unexplained refresh or binary-only validation.
Full details: Compatibility Boundaries
Explanation
No compatibility-boundary failure is introduced. The reviewed diff changes only Python model logic, bundled JSON, notices, and tests; it changes no Rust source, Cargo manifest/lockfile, Python manifest, schema, binding, or version. Both base and head keep Python and crate version 0.13.0, and the release guard still requires exactly one aisimulate wheel and one aisimulate-core crate. The new Python helpers remain available through the existing aisimulate.sdk.models.helpers compatibility alias, while Rust already supports the used fp8_static and nvfp4 quantization modes. The diff adds no Dynamo dependency or import. Dynamo consumes the existing aisimulate/aisimulate_core namespaces, so its downstream boundary remains unchanged.
Full details: Cross-Layer Contract
Explanation
The provenance documentation has a stale distribution contract. THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md says the full GLM-5.3 and NVIDIA license texts are in the adjacent distributed src/aisimulate_core/model_configs/GLM53_NVFP4_PROVENANCE.md (lines 1389-1391). The PR adds that file, but python/aisimulate/pyproject.toml includes only src/aisimulate_core/model_configs/*.json (line 160); its license-file list contains only LICENSE and THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md (line 38). No test checks that the provenance file is present in the wheel. The source-level tests and model graph tests therefore do not verify the documented release consumer.
Resolution
Add the provenance file to the wheel and sdist inclusion rules, preferably with an explicit src/aisimulate_core/model_configs/*.md or file-specific entry. Add a distribution test that loads aisimulate_core/model_configs/GLM53_NVFP4_PROVENANCE.md from the installed package and verifies the license text is present. Keep the notice path aligned with the packaged path.
Full details: Review Evidence
Explanation
The reviewed PR description is truncated in the supplied evidence at “Guard: suppose a listed attention...”. This check depends on the omitted text because it must verify exact commands, results, evidence classification, and any hosted-CI workflow claims. The repository confirms that only root .github/workflows/ files are hosted CI (REVIEW.md:138-140); nested python/aisimulate/.github/workflows/ files are not valid hosted-CI evidence. The full description is not present in the reviewed Git refs, so the check cannot determine whether the omitted text cites an inactive nested workflow.
Resolution
Provide the complete PR description, or remove the truncation. Then verify each named command and result, the negative and boundary cases, the local/fake-runner/parity/production labels, and reject any claim that a nested python/aisimulate/.github/workflows/ workflow ran as hosted CI.

nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4 export (FP8 dense layers 0-2, NVFP4 routed experts,
nothing else listed) priced its BF16 attention and shared experts at the
coarse fp8_static mode, a DSA key with no silicon rows.
helpers.modelopt_mixed_precision_targets scopes the rule to MIXED_PRECISION
headers with a quantized_layers map and no base lane (DeepSeek-V4-*-NVFP4
keep their fp8 base lane and stay out of scope). For those exports:
- attention_projection_exclusions also excludes every projection group
no entry names (both the precise and default paths), which reaches the
DSV32 and DeepSeek models and Task._attention_quant_identity_mixed;
- unlisted shared experts and DSV32 dense-prefix projections run BF16;
- DSV32 large-EP shared experts use the BF16 override on every backend
(SGLang builds the GLM shared expert as its own DeepseekV2MLP,
deepseek_v2.py L705-714/L2650-2715); exclusion-style checkpoints keep
the transcribed trtllm-only override;
- a listed attention, shared-expert or dense GEMM whose algorithm differs
from the inferred coarse gemm mode raises unless the mode is explicit.
The coarse mode inference is unchanged; its per-algorithm mapping is
factored into _mixed_precision_algo_gemm_mode. The packaged
nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4 is still the GLM-5.2-NVFP4 exclusion-style copy, so
no packaged prediction moves: the static prediction gate reports no
differences across 174,420 rows in 28 combos. Tests use a synthetic
export shaped like the upstream one, including SILICON coverage on
b200_sxm/b300_sxm/gb200/gb300 for sglang 0.5.14, vllm 0.24.0 and trtllm

vLLM v0.24.0 (ee0da84a, modelopt.py L2392-2490) and SGLang v0.5.14
(49e384ce, modelopt_quant.py L734-792) resolve a linear module by its
exact key, its packed shards, or a descendant key (one that starts with
the module path + "."). The previous commit called the last rule
"parent prefix" and applied it that way to attention and shared
experts: an ancestor key such as model.layers.N.self_attn or
mlp.shared_experts priced the GEMMs below it at the coarse mode, which
both runtimes leave unquantized. Keys inside excluded modules (the
model.layers.78* MTP layer) or past num_hidden_layers also counted.
- Attention groups, shared experts, the dense prefix and the gemm guard
now share one decoder-key filter. A key counts only if it lies in
model.layers.<i> with i < num_hidden_layers, no exclusion pattern
covers it, and it names the module exactly or a descendant of it.
- Neither runtime reads the checkpoint's packed_modules_mapping (SGLang
model_loader/loader.py L203, weight_utils.py L261/L328; vLLM
configure_quant_config). SGLang's DeepseekV2/GlmMoeDsa mapping has no
gate_up_proj, so the SGLang-only dense prefix resolves the fused GEMM
by its own key. Listing the shards without that key now raises
instead of pricing FP8 for a layout SGLang cannot load.
- Docstrings: the SGLang large-EP shared-expert rationale now cites the
fusion gates for DeepEP and moe_ep_size > 1. The architecture check
does not apply, because GlmMoeDsaForCausalLM passes its own
architecture. build_large_ep_moe_ops documents the targets-only
override.
The upstream nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4 export lists only leaf modules and
the fused gate_up_proj, so it resolves as before: 36/36 SILICON OK with
fallback denied (b200_sxm/b300_sxm/gb200/gb300 x sglang 0.5.14, vllm
0.24.0, trtllm 1.3.0rc20 x 3 layouts), with per-op latencies unchanged.

The packaged nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4 config and hf_quant_config were
byte-identical copies of nvidia/GLM-5.2-NVFP4: a pure NVFP4 export whose
BF16 modules are named by exclusion globs. The published checkpoint at
e3b8f9f2fad29727dfa95e766c5cac18ea1414bf is a ModelOpt MIXED_PRECISION
export instead. Its quantized_layers map lists FP8 (per-tensor, static)
dense MLPs in layers 0-2 and NVFP4 routed experts in layers 3-77, excludes
the MTP layer 78, and keeps FP8 KV. Attention including the indexer,
shared experts, router and lm_head are unlisted, so vLLM v0.24.0 and
SGLang v0.5.14 load them unquantized; the previous commits model that.
Replace both files with the upstream bytes (sha256 b0b6b9ab... and

Prediction effect (static gate against cd6efc5): 141 DRIFT rows, all
nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4 on b200_sxm/b300_sxm/gb200/gb300 SGLang 0.5.14,
from the dense prefix now priced at fp8_static instead of BF16; no
REGRESSION or STATUS_CHANGE; every other model is unchanged. Outside
the gate, SGLang and vLLM large-EP shared-expert GEMMs for this id move
from nvfp4 to bfloat16 (TRT-LLM unchanged). The upstream config carries
head_dim 64 (GLM-5.2-NVFP4: 192). It is read as is; for DSA it only
sets the activation-memory width (all backends): vLLM/TRT-LLM KV
capacity rises by about 2.2-2.4 GB per GPU at tp4/ep4, and the SGLang
static/agg memory estimate drops (about 7.5 GiB/GPU at bs4 x isl8192,
tp4 on b200) while SGLang KV capacity is unchanged.
Tests pin both sha256 values, the resolved modes (gemm fp8_static,
moe nvfp4, kv fp8, d=64), and run the native-graph, large-EP and
SILICON coverage tests on the packaged id as well as the synthetic
export. The structural guard now lists nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4 as the only
DEEPSEEK/KIMIK25/DEEPSEEKV32 bundle in targets-only scope.

modelopt_shared_experts_unlisted() returns False when any decoder layer lists a shared-expert target. Both DeepSeek consumers then use the coarse shared-expert mode for every layer. Therefore, a valid partial target map can quantize unlisted shared experts instead of leaving them in BF16.
The helper/call boundary must preserve shared-expert listing per decoder layer. Both consumers must select BF16 for an unlisted layer and the configured or inferred mode for a listed layer.

Dynamo pins aisimulate and aisimulate-core to an exact development version across benchmarks, Cargo, and Python bindings; releases of this PR must keep those pins synchronized. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::benchmarks/pyproject.toml:42] [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::Cargo.toml:55-56] [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::lib/bindings/python/Cargo.toml:44,63]
GLM-5.3 deployment recipes use a different checkpoint, RadixArk/GLM-5.3-NVFP4, and explicitly pass modelopt_fp4; they are not direct consumers of the new nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4 targets-only metadata. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::recipes/glm-5.3/sglang/agg-b200-agentic/deploy.yaml:13-23] [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::recipes/glm-5.3/sglang/disagg-b200-agentic/deploy.yaml:13-21]
The recipes serve that checkpoint as zai-org/GLM-5.3, and perf tooling requires the same served-model identity. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::recipes/glm-5.3/perf/README.md:149-158]
ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator
Its frozen GLM-5.3 HF quantization config remains global NVFP4 with a broad exclusion list, unlike this PR’s MIXED_PRECISION targets-only configuration. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::aic-core/src/aiconfigurator_core/model_configs/nvidia--GLM-5.3-NVFP4_hf_quant_config.json:1-18]
Collector compatibility aliases nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4 to the GLM-5.2 NVFP4 case and allows only nvfp4; this compatibility path should remain distinct from the new AISimulate model-specific interpretation. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::collector/cases/models/GlmMoeDsaForCausalLM_cases.yaml:125-176]
Existing tests independently define the expected MIXED_PRECISION contract: FP8 dense/shared projections, NVFP4 routed experts, FP8 KV cache and FMHA. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::tests/unit/sdk/test_utils.py:1361-1389]
The support matrix marks nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4 hardware-incompatible on B60 because FP4 is unsupported. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::aic-core/src/aiconfigurator_core/systems/support_matrix/b60.csv:174-177]
@Harrilee we opened #615 for the same AISIM-2123 fix without noticing this PR; #615 is now closed in favour of this one, and AISIM-2123 is handed to you in Linear.
The collector follow-up your description leaves to the collector owners is #614: _model_native_gemm_quant returns nvfp4 for a MIXED_PRECISION export with an NVFP4 lane, raises for an export that lists attention under another lane, and the Hopper invariant test gains nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4. It has no SDK dependency; merging it before this PR keeps the Hopper collector path closed throughout. A full review of this PR follows today.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Review of 695bd6ca, with local checks on a rebuilt extension plus the CI evidence on this head. Verdict: approve, with non-blocking notes.
What I verified
Bundle: both nvidia--GLM-5.3-NVFP4_*.json files hash to the values in the description and to copies downloaded independently from resolve/e3b8f9f2; the two notice files are identical; the agreement text in GLM53_NVFP4_PROVENANCE.md matches the page text word for word apart from the section numbers (the page renders them through list markup) and one quotation mark around NOTICE.
Runtime semantics: ModelOptMixedPrecisionConfig._resolve_quant_algo and get_quant_method in vLLM at ee0da84a, and _resolve_quant_algo and get_quant_method in SGLang at 49e384ce, resolve the exact key, then packed shards, then a descendant key, exclusion first, and leave an unresolved linear module unquantized, so an ancestor key quantizes nothing beneath it, as the PR states. SGLang deepseek_v2.py at that commit builds the shared expert as its own DeepseekV2MLP, and determine_num_fused_shared_experts disables fusion for DeepEP-class backends and for moe_ep_size > 1 on CUDA.
Probes on this head with synthetic exports: unlisted attention groups and shared experts are excluded; ancestor keys (...self_attn, ...mlp.shared_experts) list nothing; a key at the MTP layer index is dropped; a quant_method: fp8 header stays out of scope.
Local: test_modelopt_mixed_precision_targets.py + test_model_config.py 469 passed; tests/unit/sdk/models 1,882 passed; the two parity suites 389 passed; check_packaged_legal_files.py ok; ruff clean. CI gate on this head: 174,437 rows in 29 combos, DRIFT 141 report-only and nothing else, confined to the four */sglang/0.5.14.csv files (33/36/36/36), accuracy vs silicon unchanged; the counts match the PR's local gate and our own DSA-only gate run on #615 (33 rows on b200, all this model).
Findings
P3, non-blocking: a per-layer listing collapses to one model-wide flag. modelopt_shared_experts_unlisted returns False as soon as any decoder layer lists a shared-expert linear module (CodeRabbit's point), and _modelopt_listed_attention_groups counts a group listed in any layer as quantized in every layer; probed with a shared-expert gate_proj and with an o_proj listed in layer 5 only. The PR documents the granularity, no known export has that shape, and the graph carries one dsa_attn_quant_exclusions set and one dsa_shared_expert_quant_mode, so I would not change it in this PR. The cheap consistent option is to refuse a partial listing unless the GEMM mode is explicit, next to validate_modelopt_targets_only_gemm_mode. Tracked as AISIM-2179.
Note: d == 64 from the top-level head_dim feeds the activation width only, and the family stays inconsistent (zai-org/GLM-5.3 reads 192, this export 64, DeepSeek-V3.2 falls back to 56) until the width is derived from the MLA geometry. That is the PR's own follow-up; filed as AISIM-2180 so it does not get lost.
Note: the large-EP shared-expert rule is source-backed and not gate-sampled; fine as documented.
For the maintainers
REVIEW.md: a perf-model change of this size is medium risk and needs a Codex review of this exact head; only CodeRabbit has run so far.
Merge order: #614 first. With the real bundle, the SGLang MLA module collector reads None as this model's native quant, which opens the Hopper case builder and loader guard for an export the pinned SGLang cannot run natively; #614 closes that and has no SDK dependency.
main is four commits ahead of the base; the merge is clean with no file overlap.
Not re-run: the KV-capacity and memory numbers (the mechanism was checked in code), the sdist content (the release checks are green), the full unit suite (Full CI is green on this head).
… quantization (ai-dynamo#610)
* fix: keep modules unlisted by ModelOpt MIXED_PRECISION exports in BF16
A ModelOpt MIXED_PRECISION export quantizes exactly the modules its
quantized_layers map names. vLLM v0.24.0 (ee0da84a, modelopt.py
L2392-2490) and SGLang v0.5.14 (49e384ce, modelopt_quant.py L618-790)
check the exclusion list, then resolve a module by exact key, packed
shards or parent prefix, and leave any linear module without an entry
unquantized. The SDK read only the exclusion globs, so the upstream
nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4 export (FP8 dense layers 0-2, NVFP4 routed experts,
nothing else listed) priced its BF16 attention and shared experts at the
coarse fp8_static mode, a DSA key with no silicon rows.
helpers.modelopt_mixed_precision_targets scopes the rule to MIXED_PRECISION
headers with a quantized_layers map and no base lane (DeepSeek-V4-*-NVFP4
keep their fp8 base lane and stay out of scope). For those exports:
- attention_projection_exclusions also excludes every projection group
no entry names (both the precise and default paths), which reaches the
DSV32 and DeepSeek models and Task._attention_quant_identity_mixed;
- unlisted shared experts and DSV32 dense-prefix projections run BF16;
- DSV32 large-EP shared experts use the BF16 override on every backend
(SGLang builds the GLM shared expert as its own DeepseekV2MLP,
deepseek_v2.py L705-714/L2650-2715); exclusion-style checkpoints keep
the transcribed trtllm-only override;
1.3.0rc20 with fallback denied.

* fix: resolve ModelOpt MIXED_PRECISION targets as vLLM and SGLang do

Why
nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4@e3b8f9f2fad29727dfa95e766c5cac18ea1414bfis a ModelOptMIXED_PRECISIONexport, not a pure NVFP4 export with exclusion globs. Itsquantized_layersmap (identical inconfig.jsonandhf_quant_config.json)has 87 entries:
model.layers.{0,1,2}.mlp.{gate_proj,up_proj,gate_up_proj,down_proj}: FP8,per-tensor with a static
input_scale(SDKfp8_static);model.layers.{3..77}.mlp.experts: NVFP4, group size 16;exclude_modules: ["model.layers.78*"](MTP layer); KV cache FP8.Attention (q/kv/o and the DSA indexer), shared experts, router, lm_head and the
embedding are not listed. In the safetensors index they carry a bare
.weight,so they are BF16.
Both runtimes load unlisted modules unquantized:
ee0da84ab9e04ac7610e28580af62c365e898389),vllm/model_executor/layers/quantization/modelopt.py:ModelOptMixedPrecisionConfig.get_quant_method(L2464-2490) checksis_layer_excludedfirst (L2475-2477). It then resolves the algorithm with_resolve_quant_algo(L2392-2445): the exact key, then the packed shards frompacked_modules_mapping, then a descendant key (key.startswith(prefix + ".")).A

Part A: targets-only semantics (
fix: keep modules unlisted ...,fix: resolve ModelOpt MIXED_PRECISION targets ...)helpers.modelopt_mixed_precision_targetsscopes the rule. It applies only whenall three hold:

Part B: bundle the upstream export

nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4stays deduplicated behind

Prediction regression gate

instead of BF16. KV capacity is unaffected by head_dim, because SGLang's
of_totalbudget excludes activations. The breakdown's activation estimate still drops
(3.94 -> 1.93 GB), and so does the static/agg memory and OOM estimate (next section).
upstream
head_dimis 64 (see "head_dim 64 kept" below). TRT-LLM gets 90% of that freed memory.SGLang memory and OOM estimate (not covered by the gate)
head_dimfeeds the activation-memory width on every backend(
BaseBackend._get_memory_usage,h = num_heads * head_size), and SGLang's OOMcheck subtracts the full non-KV footprint.
collect_static.pyusesrun_static_latency_only, so the gate does not see this.run_static().get_memory(), b200_sxm SGLang 0.5.14, tp4/moe_tp1/ep4, static_ctx,bs4 x isl8192, per GPU:
The total drops by 7.63 GiB: 0.16 GiB from FP8 dense-prefix weights and 7.48 GiB
from the head_dim 64 activation width.
Large EP (not covered by the gate)
For
nvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4, SGLang and vLLM large-EP shared-expert GEMMs(
gate_ffn1/ffn2, e.g. tp1/ep16/adp16 with DeepEP) move from nvfp4 to bfloat16,so shared-expert latency and weights rise slightly. TRT-LLM is unchanged (bf16
before and after). Cause: the real bundle is in targets-only scope, so the
"Large-EP shared experts" rule below applies. Part A alone left these at nvfp4,
because the old bundle is exclusion-style.
Decisions and follow-ups
every backend prices the shared expert with the BF16 override. This matches

not sample.
its own evidence and re-pinned test.
utils._parse_hf_config_jsonreadsd = head_dimuniformly.donly feeds the generic activation widthnum_heads * head_sizethat every backend's memory estimate uses. It does not affect the DSA latency op

static/agg memory and OOM estimate (see the two memory sections above).

Rebased on #563
This branch is rebased on #563, which renamed the zai-org GLM-5.3 bundle ids and added the "GLM-5.3 model configuration files" notice section before the GLM-5.3-Flash section. This PR's notice section stays after the GLM-5.3-Flash section.
DefaultHFModels: dropped fix: refresh bundled zai-org GLM-5.3 configs to the published checkpoints #563's sentence that the NVFP4 bundle "is still the GLM-5.2-NVFP4 bundle" and kept this PR's comment onnvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4.test_model_config.py::test_glm53_bundles_resolve_checkpoint_quant_modes(added by fix: refresh bundled zai-org GLM-5.3 configs to the published checkpoints #563) now also coversnvidia/GLM-5.3-NVFP4(gemmfp8_static, moenvfp4, kvfp8). Its comment no longer says the bundle carries the GLM-5.2-NVFP4 layout.GLM53_NVFP4_PROVENANCE.md. The provenance file keeps its own copy so that it is complete on its own, asGLM53FLASH_PROVENANCE.mdis.MODEL_RELABELSentry has no effect on this PR, because the base already has the new ids.Linear: AISIM-2123
