fix(web): deleting a thread with side chats offers to delete its worktree - #29792
On web and desktop, deleting a thread that has a side chat never offers to delete the thread's worktree, even when no other thread uses it. With the default settings ("delete worktree on thread delete" off), the worktree is left on disk after the thread and its side chats are gone.
A side chat is a fork of its parent and copies the parent's worktreePath. deleteThread asks "Delete the worktree too?" only when no other thread uses that worktree. Both of its checks counted the parent's side chats as other users: the shell scan (getOrphanedWorktreePathForThread) and the server's getWorktreeThreadIds list. But the server deletes those side chats in the same thread.delete (Orchestrator.liveSideChatIds), so nothing is left using the worktree.
Change
deleteThread now adds the target's side chats (lineage.sideChat === true and parentThreadId === target) to the set of threads the delete removes. It uses that one set for both occupancy checks, the same way it already skips threads in a multi-select delete. This matches the server's automatic cleanup, where worktreeOwner in storageCleanup.ts already treats a side chat as part of its parent's worktree. Subagent children are not affected. They outlive the parent, so they still keep the worktree.
The server list now matches every spelling of the worktree path. Before, getWorktreeThreadIds compared stored paths with raw string equality. A thread launched with t3_thread_launch and existing_worktree stores the path as given, for example /repo/wt/ (see #24489). With side chats out of the occupancy set, an idle subagent stored under such a spelling could be missed, and the prompt would appear while that subagent still uses the worktree. The SQL filter in ProjectionStore.selectShellThreadRows is now a loose match. readShellSnapshotRows then keeps only the rows where normalizeProjectPathForComparison gives the same result for both paths, the same helper the client check uses. Two other callers of this filter, scratch-folder promotion and the worktree branch rename, now also find threads stored under another spelling of their path.
Scope and approval
This is a very small, focused fix for an obvious bug, so it has no prior issue. It changes about 12 lines in one function so that the client's occupancy check matches what the server deletes. It also makes the server's worktree lookup match paths the same way the client already does (about 15 lines), because this change relies on that lookup. It adds no new behavior or settings. Mobile has no worktree prompt, so it is not affected.
Overlap search: I searched the local PR index and GitHub ("side chat worktree", "delete worktree too", and issues for "side chat delete worktree") and found no matches. Open #29164 changes the archived-thread branch of deleteThread (draft and terminal cleanup), not these checks.
Verification
New test in useThreadActions.permissions.test.ts: "offers to delete the worktree that only its side chats share". On main it fails with AssertionError: expected "vi.fn()" to be called once, but got 0 times (no prompt). With the fix it passes, and the requests are stopSession, delete, removeWorktree, refreshStatus.
vp test run on useThreadActions.permissions, useThreadActions.undo, useThreadActions, and worktreeCleanup tests: 70/70 pass. After rebasing on current main, the permissions file passes 37/37.
The existing ProjectionStore.test.ts case "SQL shells read a subagent family and a worktree's threads" now also checks a subagent stored as <path>/. Before the server fix it fails with AssertionError: expected [ 'thread:family:child', …(2) ] to have the same members as [ 'thread:family:root', …(3) ]. It also checks that a POSIX path with different case stays separate, and that C:\RÉPO\wt matches a query of c:/répo/wt/. ProjectionStore 49/49 and ThreadLaunchService 45/45 pass. vp run check:changed passes.
Not checked: a real desktop delete. The new test covers the shell-scan path. The server-list path (shellThreadFamilies) uses the same set, but no test covers it directly.
Reviewed with sol-loop: 1 round with GPT-6.1 Sol on high for the web change (approved), and 2 rounds for the server path fix. In round 1 Sol found that SQLite's ASCII-only lower() missed non-ASCII Windows paths, which is now fixed. Round 2 approved.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Deleting a thread with side chats can now offer worktree cleanup, with normalized path matching for occupancy checks. Existing authorization, shared-worktree protection, and destructive confirmation remain in place.

Walkthrough
Thread deletion now includes matching side chats when checking worktree occupancy. Shell snapshot filtering compares normalized worktree paths, with tests for trailing slashes, POSIX case sensitivity, and Windows path normalization.

Summary
Worktree occupancy and deletion test apps/web/src/hooks/useThreadActions.ts, apps/web/src/hooks/useThreadActions.permissions.test.ts
deleteThread includes matching side chats in its removed set when checking for surviving threads and worktree occupants. The test verifies confirmation and the resulting deletion requests.
The shell query selects worktree paths and filters snapshot rows by normalized path. Tests cover trailing-slash aliases, POSIX case sensitivity, and Windows path normalization.
Worktree deletion now accounts for side chats, which fixes the intended bug. Two narrow edge cases remain. Windows UNC paths written with forward slashes may not be recognized as the same worktree, so a thread sharing it can be missed. Alias-spelled sibling threads may also keep their old branch name after a rename. Both are bounded and can be handled shortly after merge.
