Why

On 4 October a first-time reader went from Free Plan sign-up through kbagent to Build locally. The Apps part of his feedback is in #1160. Two of his stops were outside the Apps section:

  1. The kbagent PATH note comes after the step it explains. Install kbagent says "Confirm it's on your PATH" with kbagent --version, and the note about command not found comes only after it. He read top to bottom, ran the check, got command not found, and only then found the note.
  2. He couldn't find his project after sign-up. Free Plan projects are on Google Cloud us-east4, and the docs never name the stack: pay-as-you-go says only "no option to choose a stack". keboola.com's Try Now opens the us-east4 wizard. Its Login opens connection.keboola.com, where the "Please select your stack" picker starts on AWS · United States · us-east-1 (read on 5 October). He signed in there with Google and got "project not found".

What changed

  • cli/getting-started.mdx: the PATH line moves into the macOS and Linux tabs, right after the install command, as the Windows tab already does. The trailing note is gone. The wording matches install.sh's closing hint ("open a new shell (or 'source $HOME/.local/bin/env')").
  • management/pay-as-you-go/index.md: the Stack line names Google Cloud us-east4 and https://connection.us-east4.gcp.keboola.com. It also says the sign-in page picker starts on AWS us-east-1, where a Free Plan account has no project.
  • components/prereqs.mjs: the shared "A Keboola project" item says where a free project lives and where to sign in later. 11 pages use it.

…me reader's walkthrough

The same 2026-10-04 walkthrough that produced the Apps fixes tripped
twice outside the Apps section:

- kbagent: the PATH warning sat after the "Confirm it's on your PATH"
check, so a top-to-bottom reader got command not found first. The
macOS and Linux tabs now say it right after the install command, as
the Windows tab already did (matches install.sh's own closing hint).
- Free Plan stack: the docs said only "no option to choose a stack".
keboola.com's Login opens a stack picker that starts on AWS us-east-1,
where a Free account has no project. pay-as-you-go and the shared
"A Keboola project" prerequisite now name Google Cloud us-east4 and
  its sign-in URL.
