Stacked on #1159, which renames the lifecycle, Kai and other app actions in the text around these images. Merge #1159 first; GitHub then retargets this one to main. Moving this commit onto #1159 gave one conflict, in getting-started step 6: this commit rewords the start of the sentence ("click Deploy in the wizard") and #1159 rewrites its end (Start opens no wizard). The resolved line is the merged one that the Streamlit reshoot branch already carried.

Why

Seven Apps screenshots showed the UI from July or March: Redeploy App and Start App buttons, the Kai Agent Beta pill, the old Start Data App dialog, and an Overview tab with the App URL below Authentication. The text next to them already describes today's Deploy, Redeploy and Start and the collapsed Deploy settings section, so the pictures and the text disagreed.

What changed

All new shots come from the demo project 264 on europe-west3, taken at 2x: app-actions-menu.png on 6 October, the rest on 1 October. Each is cropped to the part of the UI its step points at, and person names in the Versions panel are blurred.

  • deploy-wizard.png (new): the Deploy wizard of an app that has never run. It replaces deploy-timeout-backedsize.png in getting-started step 6 and publish-and-share step 1.
  • redeploy-wizard.png (new): the Redeploy wizard of a running app, with Deploy settings collapsed, for reference "Sleep and resume".
  • app-actions-menu.png: a stopped app's header with Open and the ⋮ menu open (Duplicate with Kai, Automate, Debug mode, Delete app). Reference "App actions" now uses it too, in place of the March manage-redeploy.png panel. The open menu covers Start and Edit with Kai at any window width, because both sit right-aligned under it. The 1 October take still showed the header's old Open App, so commit 07710cc retakes it on the same app, Toy Store Sales Dashboard (App ID 74016144, stopped before and after; the only click was the ⋮ trigger).
  • build-in-ui-config.png: a new Python/JS app's Overview, Not Deployed, with the App access card. Used in getting-started step 5 and authentication Step 1.
  • streamlit/lock-start-data-app.png and streamlit/lock-update-dependencies.png: the Start wizard of a Streamlit app, and the Redeploy wizard expanded to show the Update packages dependencies switch.
  • streamlit/lock-freeze-version-toggle.png: the Packages card with Freeze Version on. It wasn't on the original list; it was taken while freezing was on for the shot above.
  • deploy-timeout-backedsize.png and manage-redeploy.png are deleted; nothing references them now.

Text changes:

  • Every changed image has new alt text that describes what it shows.
  • authentication: the App URL block is in the App access card, above Authentication (the page said below), and the card's Not deployed yet notice can be ignored there.
  • getting-started step 6 and publish-and-share step 1 tell you to click Deploy in the wizard.
  • authentication, troubleshooting, getting-started and build-locally (commit a67e018) now name the Password field in the App access card on the Overview tab as a place to copy a Basic (Password) app's password, beside the dialog that Open in the page header shows. Steps that open the app keep the dialog only. The troubleshooting line also says what to do when the card asks you to start or redeploy the app instead of showing the field. The source comment in build-locally no longer says a stopped app's page shows no password; on 6 October the card showed it on the stopped Toy Store app.
  • lock-version uses the UI's label, "Freeze Version" (not "Freeze versions"), and says it's in the Packages card. The wizard shots sit under their steps, the Packages card is shown as it looks after the first start, section 3 gets the confirm step, and a new sentence says what to do when the Update packages dependencies toggle is missing.

Also masked: the old streamlit/lock-update-requirements.png showed a colleague's name three times in its Versions panel. So does a byte-identical copy at lock-streamlit-version/code-deployment/update-requirements.png, which no page uses but help.keboola.com still serves. Both now have the name blurred (PRDCT-616 rule). The same two files are also on their own branch off main (PRDCT-616-mask-streamlit-name), so a small PR can take the name off the live site before this stack lands.

How the shots were taken

Some states only appear on an app that is in them, so two changes were made in project 264, both approved by Nikita:

  • A new app, docs-manual-app (App ID 74022487), created with "Deploy from your own Git repository" and connected to the public keboola/titanic-python-app repository, branch main. It has never been deployed. It provides the plain Deploy wizard and the Not Deployed page: the two never-deployed apps Kai built both have drafts, so their wizard shows a draft box and a Deploy draft changes button. The app stays until this PR merges.
  • docs-test-oidc-google (App ID 74021824, Streamlit): Freeze Version turned on, started once, shots taken, suspended with Suspend app, Freeze Version turned off again. The dependencies switch only shows after such a start.

Everything else was read-only: pages loaded, and menus and wizards opened and closed without submitting.

Evidence

On 1 October a logged-in europe-west3 project page loaded kbc-ui/bundle.CF29sTZY.js, which imports app-QW9Ajcyu.js. The chunks are public on ui.keboola-assets.com.

  • CredentialsModal-DKVAbjxh.js: an app in state created gets the fields directly. Otherwise the wizard shows one sentence ("Starts the app with its current version and the settings below.", or "Restarts the running app…" when it runs) and a collapsible Deploy settings section whose summary is version · size · "Sleeps after N". The Update packages dependencies switch renders only when parameters.dataApp.freezeDependencies is true and state.data_app["requirements.txt"] exists. On the Streamlit test app that state key appeared after one start with freezing on.
  • Detail-rhJ8jrVk.js: the Packages card's switch is labelled "Freeze Version", and the App access card holds the not-deployed notice, the App URL and Authentication.
  • StatusLabel-v2pya8eH.js: Duplicate with Kai for apps with a Keboola-managed repository, Copy app otherwise, and Suspend app only while the app runs; created reads Not Deployed.
  • The branch picker in Git Repository lists commit authors, so it isn't open in any shot.

On 6 October the page loaded kbc-ui/bundle.BeQYTX6g.js (app-DYO4ae3t.js). The Apps sources cited below are byte-identical to the 2 October build's (bundle.DZIl0CMv.js); only Builder/kaiPrompts.ts changed, adding two Kai prompts for drafts.

  • OpenDataApp.tsx (in TerminateDataApp-DvAPVWPU.js): the header button reads Open, with the tooltip "Open the production app in a new tab", on any app that has been deployed. It always opens the Open app dialog first. Only the Apps list's inline link and Kai's chat card still say Open App.
  • AppUrlSetting.tsx (in Detail-CzluuVsX.js): the App access card shows the Password field (hidden, with eye and copy, plus Reset for people who can edit the app) whenever the saved authentication is Basic (Password) and a password exists. It doesn't check whether the app runs. Without a password yet, the card asks you to deploy, start or redeploy the app to generate one.

Seven Apps images showed the July or March UI (Redeploy App, Start App,
the Kai Agent Beta pill, the old Start Data App dialog, an Overview with
the App URL below Authentication), so they contradicted the lifecycle
text around them. All new shots come from demo project 264 on
europe-west3 on 2026-10-01 (kbc-ui bundle.CF29sTZY.js -> app-QW9Ajcyu.js),
2x, cropped to the part of the UI the step points at, with person names
in the Versions panel blurred.

- deploy-wizard.png (new): Deploy wizard of an app that has never run.
  Replaces deploy-timeout-backedsize.png on getting-started step 6 and
  publish-and-share step 1.
- redeploy-wizard.png (new): Redeploy wizard of a running app with Deploy
settings collapsed, for reference "Sleep and resume".
- app-actions-menu.png: stopped app header with the menu open (Duplicate
with Kai, Automate, Debug mode, Delete app); now also on reference "App
actions", replacing the March manage-redeploy.png panel.
- build-in-ui-config.png: a never-deployed Python/JS app's Overview with
the App access card (getting-started step 5, authentication Step 1).
- streamlit/lock-start-data-app.png, lock-update-dependencies.png: the
Start wizard, and the Redeploy wizard expanded with the Update packages
  dependencies switch.
- streamlit/lock-freeze-version-toggle.png: Packages card with Freeze
Version on (taken while freezing was on for the shot above).
- Removed the now unreferenced deploy-timeout-backedsize.png and
  manage-redeploy.png.

Text: alt text for every changed image. authentication says the App URL
block is in the App access card, above Authentication, and that the card's
not-deployed notice doesn't matter there. getting-started step 6 and
publish-and-share step 1 say to click Deploy in the wizard. lock-version
says "Freeze Version" (the UI label) in the Packages card, puts the wizard
shots under their steps, shows the Packages card as it looks after the
first start, adds the confirm step to section 3, and says what to do when
the Update packages dependencies toggle is missing (start once, reload,
reopen the wizard): the wizard
(CredentialsModal-DKVAbjxh.js) renders it only when
parameters.dataApp.freezeDependencies and state.data_app["requirements.txt"]
are set, and the state key appeared after one start with freezing on.

Masked a colleague's name (three Versions lines) in the old
streamlit/lock-update-requirements.png and in its byte-identical,
unreferenced copy lock-streamlit-version/code-deployment/update-requirements.png,
which help.keboola.com still serves (PRDCT-616 rule).

Project 264 changes made for the shots, approved by Nikita: new
docs-manual-app (App ID 74022487, repo keboola/titanic-python-app, never
deployed), and on docs-test-oidc-google (74021824) Freeze Version on, one
start, Suspend App, Freeze Version off.

PRDCT-692

The reshot app-actions-menu.png shows the More actions menu as ⋮, the
glyph #1159 uses in the text, but the alt text on publish-and-share and
reference still said ⋯.

Verdict: needs_human (risk 3/5) · profile connection-docs

Escalating: this content PR is stacked on unmerged #1159 and carries a self-admitted screenshot/UI mismatch, both gate-1 timing signals.

Impact flags: possible rollback re-introduction — see Check Run summary.

Concerns:

  • src/content/docs/data-apps/publish-and-share.md: Stacked on unmerged #1159; depends on its text, merge order required
  • src/content/docs/data-apps/publish-and-share.md: Alt text says 'Open App' but shipped UI button is now 'Open'
  • src/content/docs/data-apps/reference.md: app-actions-menu.png shows stale 'Open App' header per PR body

app-actions-menu.png was shot on 1 October, when the header button read
Open App. The UI renamed it Open on 2 October, so the shot and its alt
text on publish-and-share and reference no longer matched the text
around them (#1159). The review bot flagged both on this PR.

Retaken on 6 October in project 264 (europe-west3), UI build
kbc-ui/bundle.BeQYTX6g.js (Last-Modified 06 Oct 11:46 GMT), on the same
app as before: Toy Store Sales Dashboard, App ID 74016144, deployed and
stopped (GET data-science /apps/74016144 said stopped before and after).
Headless Playwright with the saved session. The only click was the ⋮
(More actions) trigger, closed with Escape. Same framing as the
1 October shot: 1100 px viewport at 2x, cropped to the breadcrumb,
header, tabs and the open menu (Duplicate with Kai, Automate, Debug mode,
Delete app). The top bar is cropped out, and the Versions panel's names
were blurred before the shot and fall outside the crop. Mean luma 242.7.

Source: OpenDataApp.tsx (TerminateDataApp-DvAPVWPU.js.map) labels the
header button Open, tooltip "Open the production app in a new tab". The
data-apps sources in this build match 2 October's bundle.DZIl0CMv.js
byte for byte, except Builder/kaiPrompts.ts, which adds two Kai prompts
for drafts.

Four pages sent readers who need the Basic (Password) password only to
the dialog that Open in the page header shows. Since the UI build of
2 October, the App access card on the Overview tab also has it, in a
Password field (hidden, eye, copy, Reset), and #1165 already sends
publish-and-share readers there. authentication, troubleshooting,
getting-started and build-locally now name the card first and keep the
dialog as the other way. Steps whose job is opening the app
(build-locally's Check the app, the two strips, getting-started step 7)
keep the dialog only. troubleshooting also says what to do when the card
asks you to start or redeploy the app instead of showing the field (an
app switched to Basic after its last deploy has no password yet), as
#1165 says on publish-and-share.

build-locally's source comment said "a stopped app's page shows no
password". That was true of the 29 September build, not of today's:
on 6 October the card showed the masked password on Toy Store Sales
Dashboard (App ID 74016144), which is stopped with autoRestartEnabled
true, so a visit would wake it. The comment now records that check, and
its "not checked on a sleeping app" VERIFY is dropped.

Source (kbc-ui/bundle.BeQYTX6g.js, 06 Oct 11:46 GMT, project 264):
AppUrlSetting.tsx (Detail-CzluuVsX.js.map) renders AppPasswordField when
the saved authentication is Basic and the password exists, with no check
on whether the app runs (Reset only for users who can edit the app);
otherwise it shows "<Deploy|Start|Redeploy> the app to generate its
password." OpenDataApp.tsx shows Open on any app
that has been deployed (hasBeenDeployed: state is not created) and
always opens the Open app dialog first. Both files are byte-identical
to the 2 October build.
