Replaces #1114. The earlier review discussion remains on that PR.

This PR adds the first graphical desktop window on macOS and Windows, directly after the shared usage reader in #1085.

Running switchyard-desktop [FILE] shows server health and request and token counts for today and the seven local calendar days ending today. Users can refresh, open the server config, open the routing log, and quit. A failed usage read shows usage as unavailable. Invalid app settings show an error in the window.

The window retains one health probe and one log reader across refreshes. Blocking checks and file-opening commands run on worker threads. The frontend contains its own HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and uses the system color scheme.

Optional print output and pricing follow in #1086. The TUI follows in #1087. Route editors, accounts, sessions, analytics, and the expanded desktop pages remain later in the stack.

Summary by CodeRabbit

    • Refresh server information, open the configuration file or routing log, and quit from the app.
    • Added command-line options to validate a settings file and choose a settings path.
  • Bug Fixes
    • The app reports errors when server information or files cannot be accessed, and shows unavailable values when a status refresh fails.

Walkthrough

The change adds a Tauri desktop application for macOS and Windows. Its command-line entry point resolves settings and starts the GUI. The GUI reports server health and usage, opens configuration and log files, and provides refresh and quit actions.

Changes

Desktop application

Layer / File(s) Summary
Desktop entry point and Tauri setup
crates/switchyard-desktop/Cargo.toml, crates/switchyard-desktop/build.rs, crates/switchyard-desktop/tauri.conf.json, crates/switchyard-desktop/src/main.rs, crates/switchyard-desktop/.gitignore
The package adds Tauri dependencies and configuration, builds Tauri on macOS and Windows, and adds a command-line entry point for settings resolution and platform-specific startup. The ignore file excludes /gen.
GUI state and commands
crates/switchyard-desktop/src/gui.rs
The Tauri backend adds a health and usage snapshot, configuration and log file opening, an application quit command, and command registration.
Status interface
crates/switchyard-desktop/ui/index.html, crates/switchyard-desktop/ui/basic.css, crates/switchyard-desktop/ui/basic.js
The page displays server status, URL, usage, and errors. Its controls refresh the snapshot, open configuration or log files, and quit the application.

File-opening buttons may need a retry during refresh, and supplying two settings paths can open the wrong installation. These bounded issues should be fixed or accepted by the owner before merging.

A rabbit greets the desktop light,
Fresh server counts appear in sight.
The config and logs open with care,
A refresh keeps the status there.
Then off I hop beneath the moon.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Keep file-opening actions available during refresh.

If a user clicks either file-opening button while snapshot holds the mutex, try_lock rejects the click. This includes the initial refresh, which starts when the page loads. Read the immutable settings path without competing with the health check and usage read, or wait for the refresh before opening the file.

Reject a second settings file.

When the command receives two positional paths, this assignment silently discards the first path. The window then displays status and opens files for the second installation. Reject an additional positional path so a mistaken invocation cannot select different settings without notice.
