⚠️ Sorry I only did Jellyfin for now as I cant test Emby... ⚠️
Admin defaults barely reach anyone. A setting comes from the first layer that has it: Device profile, then Global, then Admin defaults. The Flutter app sends every synced setting on each push, so after the first sync the Device profile holds almost all of them, and the Admin defaults are never read. On my server, existing users have up to 300 settings stored per device, most of them never chosen.
The admin also had no way to see this. "Apply Defaults" without overwrite writes into Global, which the Device profile hides, so it looks like it does nothing. The full reset works but wipes everything users really chose.
This adds a preview in the Settings Sync tab to see the whole picture, two actions to clean it up, and a server filter so it doesn't fill up again.
Goes with the matching Moonfin-Core PR, which stops the app from sending settings the user never changed : Moonfin-Client/Moonfin-Core#2034
In Settings Sync, under "Where a setting comes from":
See every user with how many settings each profile stores (Desktop, Mobile, TV, Global), how many only repeat a lower layer, and who synced last.
Click a user to see each setting: what they get, which layer it comes from (Device profile, Global, Admin defaults or app default), and the value in each layer. API keys only show as "(set)".
Remove Repeated Values action for the ticked users: deletes stored values equal to what the layers below give. Nobody's settings change, but later Admin defaults reach them again. Shows the count before doing anything.
Clear Selected Settings action: deletes the ticked settings from the ticked users, so the Admin defaults apply instead. Clients are told to sync again. Hidden items can't be cleared.
Changes Made
On push, a value equal to what the user would inherit (Global, then Admin defaults) is not stored, and clears the one stored before. This also covers a user switching a setting back to the default. Only the pushed keys are checked. Home rows and hidden items are left out, they have their own rules.
New admin endpoints, all behind RequiresElevation:
GET Moonfin/Admin/Settings/Overview
GET Moonfin/Admin/Settings/Explain/{userId}?profile=
POST Moonfin/Admin/Settings/RemoveRepeated?dryRun=
POST Moonfin/Admin/Settings/Clear

Client Impact
No client changes needed
Companion client PR(s) required, linked here:
New setting keys added.
Works with every client. The Moonfin-Core PR is what stops new profiles from filling up, this one cleans what is already there and filters what older apps still send.
Compatibility
Change to the settings profile is additive only, no renamed or removed properties
New properties use the same type the client sends (a client bool maps to bool?, an int to int?)
Migration added for any renamed or removed settings
Older clients still work, unknown fields are ignored and no keys were removed
Testing
Built the plugin and deployed to a Jellyfin server
Verified against a live client (which one: Moonfin-Core macOS, current build and fixed build)
All Admin defaults are "Not set", except Media Bar Style = Moonfin
Sign in both through the wizard. The overview shows TestCurrent with 267 settings in its Desktop profile, TestFixed with 7 (values the app sets itself at signin/wizard). This is where Admin default already lose the race with the Device profile
2. Set Media bar to "makd" on both. TestCurrent goes to 268, TestFixed to 8. "moonfin" wasn't stored before because it equals the Admin default.
3. In Admin defaults, set Show Shuffle Button = No
TestCurrent still gets true from its Device profile, a value it never chose. The shuffle icon stays.
TestFixed gets false from the Admin defaults. The icon is gone.
TestCurrent
TestFixed
5. On TestCurrent, tick showShuffleButton and click Clear Selected Settings. It now comes from the Admin defaults and the icon goes away.

Checklist
Code builds successfully
Code follows project style and conventions
No unnecessary commented-out code
No new warnings introduced
Any new setting keys match the client-side keys exactly
Administrators can inspect users’ settings, see where values come from, and identify repeated settings.
Administrators can preview repeated settings before removing them, or clear selected settings across users.
Improvements
Saving a profile no longer stores values that match inherited settings, keeping user settings focused on personal changes.
Settings inspections redact API keys, and protected settings are excluded from cleanup actions.
Empty administrator rating-source lists now allow lower-priority settings to apply.
The changes add APIs and admin controls to inspect user settings, report repeated stored values, remove inherited duplicates, and clear selected settings. Profile saves can now omit values that match inherited settings. New tests cover explanation, cleanup, clearing, and overview behavior.
The service reports effective settings, their sources, and redundancy. The new endpoint returns explanations for a user and profile. Tests cover layer precedence, home layouts, and API-key redaction.
Store and clean inherited values Jellyfin/backend/Services/MoonfinSettingsService.cs, Jellyfin/backend/Api/MoonfinController.cs, Jellyfin/tests/Moonfin.Server.Tests/InheritedSettingsTests.cs
Profile saves can drop incoming values that match inherited values. The service counts and removes repeated values, clears selected settings across profiles, and updates stored files. Tests cover cleanup, dry runs, clearing, and empty rating-source defaults.
Admin endpoints and the page expose user and profile details, filtering, repeated-value removal, and selected-setting clearing. The overview reports per-profile counts, repeated-value counts, and sync metadata.

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to 2d27c
The new settings preview lets an admin clear stored values. While a new user's or profile's details are loading, the old table stays usable, so a stale selection can be cleared for the wrong users. Reset the detail state when each request starts before merging. Truncated cells also cannot be expanded from the keyboard.

Explanation
The description covers the main sections of the template: Summary, Type of Change, Area, Changes Made, Client Impact, Compatibility, Testing with steps, and Checklist. It explains the problem (Device profile values shadow Global and Admin defaults), the four new admin endpoints, the push-time filter, and the test steps with screenshots. Gaps: Related Issues has placeholder text ("Closes #", "Fixes #") and only a companion PR link under "Related to". The Migration checkbox is unchecked with no explanation, which is acceptable because the change is additive. The Emby note is repeated and contradicts itself: the Summary says "I cant test Emby" and the Changes Made section says "I can test Emby". The Testing section also says the author ran manual tests, but the Test Steps are a bit disorganized, and step 4 is missing. The Checklist and Client Impact boxes are checked, but the new-key box is left unchecked, which is consistent with the endpoints adding no new setting keys. Overall the description is mostly complete and clear.

Explain why this settings change is Jellyfin-only.
This PR changes the Jellyfin port only. “Emby was not tested” does not explain whether Emby is intentionally out of scope or why. Add a short scope note and reason to the PR description. That explanation satisfies the cross-port review requirement; an Emby port is not required by this contract.
This is a scope-documentation issue, not evidence of an Emby runtime regression.

Make truncated cells expandable by keyboard.
If a keyboard-only admin needs to read a truncated setting name or value, the click-only handler cannot expand the cell. Give expandable cells a focusable control that handles Enter and Space. The user-name button already provides the pattern for keyboard activation.

Web query:
site:github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-web "components/loading/loading" "function show" OR "export function show"
Result:
I didn’t find any GitHub results matching that exact query. That doesn’t establish whether `show` exists in Jellyfin Web; it may be named or exported differently, or the search terms may not match the source.
Hide and reset the detail view when a request starts.
loadDetail leaves the previous table active while the new response is pending. Profile-tab changes also preserve previewSelected. A user switch resets the selection, but the stale table remains interactive, so an admin can select a stale field before the response arrives. Clear Selected Settings then sends that field with the independently ticked user IDs.
Reset the detail state before starting each request:

Review comment at @Jellyfin/backend/Pages/configPage.html at line 9016:
Update loadDetail to clear previewData and previewSelected and hide
#PreviewDetail whenever a new detail request starts, before showing the loading
message, so stale fields cannot remain interactive while the response is
pending.

Same as on the Core PR: it's on purpose that admin defaults only reach users who haven't synced yet. Once someone syncs, their profile belongs to them, and the only way to move existing users onto the defaults is Apply Defaults, which the admin runs deliberately for everyone. This PR works against that in a few ways:
Dropping pushed values that match Global or the admin defaults means a user who picks the same value as the default would follow whatever the admin changes it to later.
Remove Repeated Values does the same thing to existing users. Nothing looks different right away, but they'd start following later changes to Global and the defaults.
Clearing individual settings for a user overrides their choices one setting at a time, and an admin shouldn't be doing that.

Summary

Works with every client. The Moonfin-Core PR is what stops new profiles from filling up, this one cleans what is already there and filters what older apps still send.
