fix: sync button sync only the changed settings - #2034
Every time the app syncs, it sends every synced setting to the server, defaults included. After the first sync, the user's Device profile holds almost all the settings (267 in my test, right after the signin wizard), even ones the user never touched. The Device profile wins over Global and the Admin defaults, so a default set by the admin never reaches that user. The only way around it today is the full reset in Moonbase, which wipes everything the user really chose.
This PR makes the automatic sync send only the settings the user changed since the last sync.
The "Save to profile" button (and turning sync on) also sends every setting. @RadicalMuffinMan I'm not sure it's the intended behaviour, but to me these should also only send what the user changed, otherwise the Admin defaults will always lose the race. So they now only send the settings that differ from the app's built-in values. The Moonbase PR then drops the ones that match Global or the Admin defaults.
Goes with the matching Moonbase PR, which adds a settings preview for admins and filters values that only repeat a default. There are tests steps with screenshots : Moonfin-Client/Plugin#357
The automatic push now compares with the last sync and only sends the keys that changed. A value that came from the server is never sent back.
homeSections and homeRowOrder always go together, since Moonbase drops the stored rows when the order arrives alone.
The "Save to profile" button, and a first push with nothing to compare with, only send the settings that differ from the app's built in values. The home rows and Seerr rows always go.
A push never removes a key on the server, so a choice stored earlier stays.
Roku and Smart-TV already send only changed keys. The Flutter app was the only client sending everything.
Known limits:
A user who sets a setting back to exactly the default value can't be told apart from one who never touched it, so they follow the Admin defaults again.
A few values set by the app itself at sign in (wizard answers, seerrEnabled, mediaPreviewMode…) are still stored. 7 in my test, against 267 before.
Profile settings sync now sends only settings that have changed, avoiding unnecessary updates.
Settings received from the server are no longer immediately sent back.
Default-valued settings are omitted when there are no changes to send, while non-default values are included when explicitly saved.
Changes to home-row order send the related home-section settings together.
Surface-specific rating settings no longer populate unrelated global rating fields.
Profile settings pushes now omit unchanged or default-valued fields, skip empty request bodies, and include both home layout keys when either changes. Tests record pushed profile maps and verify these behaviors.

Profile payload selection and verification lib/data/services/plugin_sync_service.dart, test/data/services/plugin_sync_service_loop_test.dart, test/data/services/plugin_sync_rating_sources_test.dart
The service skips unchanged payloads unless forced, filters fields against the last snapshot or built-in defaults, and skips POST requests with empty bodies. changedProfileKeys compares values by JSON encoding and includes both home layout keys when either changes. Tests verify the pushed profile contents and confirm that default rating-source fields are absent.
Profile saves can override administrator settings or resend stale API keys; these filtering issues should be fixed before merging.

Compare normalized media-bar values at the filter boundary.
_withoutBuiltInDefaults compares raw stored values, but _buildProfileFromLocal sends normalized values. For example, " BOTH " remains in a first or forced payload because it does not equal "both", then serializes as "both". The explicit profile value can override the Global or Admin default.
Compare the normalized payload values for mediaBarMode and mediaBarContentType with their defaults:

Remove the manual API-key pushes from _buildProfileFromLocal.
mdblistApiKey and tmdbApiKey are marked receiveOnly, which means they are pulled from the server and never sent back. The generic loop respects that flag, but the manual block below it adds any nonempty key. A first push or a "Save to profile" push (forced) can therefore send a key that came from the server. If an admin changed that key on the server, a device with an older copy can overwrite the new value.
Pushes do not delete stored server keys, so omitting these two keys is safe. The same fix also stops keys typed on a device from syncing. If that sync is wanted, change the receiveOnly entries in the field table instead.

Filter built-in home-row image defaults before encoding the profile.
_buildProfileFromLocal includes every stored homeRowImageType, even when it equals that type’s built-in default. encodeHomeRowImageTypes preserves the value, and _withoutBuiltInDefaults does not remove homeRowImageTypes. First and forced pushes therefore send a setting that the PR contract requires the client to omit.
Suggested fix
final homeRowImageTypes = encodeHomeRowImageTypes({
for (final type in prefs.HomeSectionType.values)
- if (_prefs.containsPreference(UserPreferences.homeRowImageType(type)))+ if (_prefs.containsPreference(UserPreferences.homeRowImageType(type)) &&+ _prefs.get(UserPreferences.homeRowImageType(type)) !=+ UserPreferences.homeRowImageType(type).defaultValue)
type: _prefs.get(UserPreferences.homeRowImageType(type)),
});

It's on purpose that admin defaults only reach users who haven't synced yet. They're the starting point for new users. Once someone syncs, what's in their profile belongs to them. Moving existing users onto the defaults is a separate step the admin takes on purpose with Apply Defaults: overwrite resets them, and merge fills in Global and leaves device settings alone. Having the defaults keep applying for anyone who never touched a setting changes that model, so I'm going to pass on this.
There's also a regression in the forced push that's worth knowing about if this comes back in another form. force is what the app uses when the server has to match the device. Now it leaves out every key that's at its default, and since a push never clears a key, those values never get written:
Ratings > Reset removes the ratings prefs and does a forced push. None of the rating keys go up, and the updated snapshot also makes the debounced push skip them. The server keeps the old sources and the next pull puts them back.
Save to profile after picking another profile. Picking records the current settings as synced, so the forced save is the only write. Any setting at its default on the device leaves the target profile's old value in place.
Closing this, but thanks again for the time you put into it.
Not arguing at all, but if I correctly understood :
In practice, "the profile belongs to the user" also covers about 260+ values the user never chose, and that's what the overview showed. A new user will pick Admin default at first signin but then it’s locked out for the Admins to push new default, appart from the full reset
"Merge fills in Global" : that's true, but for anyone who synced with the Flutter app, the Device profile hides Global for almost every setting, so merge does nearly nothing for them
Also I find it a bit paradoxical to accept full settings reset of a user but not targeted ones
fixed it up for the next Moonbase release. Merge now writes each default the admin has set into Global and into every device profile a user already has and anything left as "Not set" is left alone, including lists the admin never set, so it won't wipe anyone's own choices. Thanks for pointing it out.
