What

Adds profile.next and profile.previous. They jump to the next or previous profile in the roster and wrap around. Both show up in a new Profiles section in Keyboard settings so you can rebind them like any other key.

Why

Right now the only way to switch profile is clicking the avatar in the dock. I switch between a work and personal profile a lot and kept reaching for a shortcut that wasn't there. There was also no command for it in the registry, so it couldn't be rebound either. Closes #287.

Defaults are Ctrl+Cmd+P and Ctrl+Cmd+Shift+P on macOS. Windows gets F9 and Shift+F9 since Ctrl+P is print and Ctrl+Alt+P is AltGr, which the registry test rejects. Happy to change these if you'd rather something else.

How tested

  • Added next_and_previous_profile_cycle_the_roster in the shell tests. One profile does nothing, next goes to the second one, next again wraps to the first, previous goes back.
  • cargo test -p zephium-core -p zephium-app --locked: 1164 passed.
  • cargo fmt --all --check and cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets --locked -- -D warnings: clean.
  • pnpm --dir frame check: 1055 tests passed, typecheck, lint, format and knip clean.
  • Built a release bundle from this branch and ran it as my daily browser on macOS 15 (M-series) with two profiles. Ctrl+Cmd+P and Ctrl+Cmd+Shift+P switch between them, both rows show under Profiles in Keyboard & accessibility, and Toggle private window is still on Shift+Cmd+P.

Not tested on Windows.

Checklist

  • cargo fmt --all --check and cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets --locked -- -D warnings are clean
  • Relevant tests pass and new behavior is covered, including the deny path for anything security-sensitive
  • pnpm --dir frame check is clean (frontend changes)
  • Screenshots or a recording attached (visual changes)
  • Docs updated where behavior or architecture changed
  • No new telemetry, network path or heavy dependency without prior discussion

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added keyboard shortcuts for switching to the next or previous profile. Switching wraps around the profile roster; with only one profile, the current profile stays selected.
    • Added a Profiles section to keyboard shortcut settings with localized names for the new commands.

The change adds keyboard commands to move forward or backward through the profile roster. It adds platform-specific shortcuts and lists both commands in Keyboard settings.

Command handling invokes profile stepping. The operation selects the current profile, handles missing or unrostered profiles and rosters with fewer than two profiles, and switches to the adjacent rostered profile with wraparound. A shell test checks next and previous navigation.

Rapid profile shortcuts can select the wrong profile during browser return, while coverage gaps could let navigation regressions pass. The change is otherwise bounded and mergeable with follow-up.

Explanation

The changes meet the coding requirements in [#287]. operation_step_profile selects rostered profiles in roster order, wraps in both directions, and returns NoOp for a single rostered profile. The command registry adds profile.next and profile.previous with platform defaults. The keymap model adds localized titles and a rebindable profiles section. The shell test covers single-profile no-op, forward cycling, wraparound, and reverse movement.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changed files support [#287]. Shell command dispatch, profile stepping, registry entries, localization, Keyboard settings grouping, and automated tests implement or validate the requested behavior. No unrelated behavior or dependency change is shown.

Full details: One Logical Change

Explanation

All seven changed files support the single profile-shortcut feature. The Rust changes add command dispatch, roster stepping, registry entries, and coverage. The frame changes add localization, Profiles grouping, and matching tests. The only deletions update test indexes for the new section. No unrelated refactor, rename, or formatting-only change appears in the PR diff.

Full details: Generated Files Follow Their Source

Explanation

No prohibited generated-file mismatch is present. The PR changes frame/messages/en.json, which is a message catalog, and does not change frame/src/shared/i18n, frame/src/shared/ipc/bindings.ts, Cargo.lock, or pnpm-lock.yaml. No lockfile or IPC binding condition is triggered.

Full details: Privileged Boundary Intact

Explanation

No privileged-boundary failure was introduced. The PR changes only command registration, Rust shell dispatch/profile stepping, and settings localization. run_command remains restricted to the main webview and bounds the command ID; execute_command resolves only registered commands before dispatch. The new profile commands use exact Rust-side matches, and operation_step_profile plus operation_switch_profile validate the current and target profiles against the roster. The diff does not change CSP, Wry/Tauri IPC handlers, privileged initialization, custom protocols, or release devtools settings.

Full details: Tests Cover Changed Behavior

Explanation

The PR adds tests for normal profile cycling and keymap grouping, but it does not test the rejection paths in operation_step_profile. The changed Rust logic explicitly rejects when there is no focused window or when the current profile is not rostered. The new test only checks profile IDs and ignores returned operation outcomes. The private-window branch is also not exercised through the new commands.

Resolution

Add shell tests that call handle_operation(Command::Run(...)) and assert Rejected with the expected reasons for no focused window and an unrostered profile. Add a test for stepping while a private window is shown. Assert both profile.next and profile.previous keymap titles and registry defaults on both platforms.

Full details: Performance Impact Stated

Explanation

The PR touches the per-keystroke shortcut path. BrowserApp.svelte calls keymap.commandFor for each keydown, and the changed command registry adds two entries to that lookup. The PR description reports functional tests and macOS usage, but it states no performance impact or measurement.

Resolution

Add a performance statement or measurement to the PR description. For example, report shortcut lookup latency with the expanded registry and profile-switch latency for representative roster sizes, or state the observed impact after measuring it.

Cover profile.previous in this contract test.

The fixture and assertions cover only profile.next. A regression in profile.previous grouping or localization can pass. Add profile.previous and assert both entries and titles.

As per path instructions, load-bearing behavior changes must include a contract test.

Test both directions with three profiles and cover a rejection path.

With two profiles, profile.next and profile.previous select the same neighbor. The current assertion would pass if profile.previous moved forward. Add a three-profile test that proves the directions differ, plus a test for a missing-current or out-of-roster profile.

Keep the queued profile as the base for a second step.

While Settings returns to Browse, operation_switch_profile stores its target in browser_after_return and replaces any earlier queued switch. operation_step_profile still reads the focused window's profile, which stays unchanged until the queued switch runs. Two quick Next presses therefore both select the same neighbor, and the second press drops one step. Base the step on a queued SwitchProfile target. A later step then replaces the queued target with the correct one. This also keeps the accepted step from being lost across the browser-return barrier.

🐛 Suggested fix
     pub(super) fn operation_step_profile(&mut self, forward: bool) -> OperationDisposition {
-        let current = if self.private_shown() {
-            self.private
-                .as_ref()
-                .map(|session| session.regular_profile())
-        } else {
-            self.windows.focused().map(|window| window.profile)
-        };
+        let current = match self.browser_after_return.as_deref() {
+            Some(Command::SwitchProfile(queued)) => Some(*queued),
+            _ if self.private_shown() => self
+                .private
+                .as_ref()
+                .map(|session| session.regular_profile()),
+            _ => self.windows.focused().map(|window| window.profile),
+        };

Add a regression test with three profiles. Start in profile A, send two Next steps while the browser return is pending, and assert that the final profile is C.

Continuing this in #342 after recreating my fork. The replacement is rebased onto current main and addresses the queued-profile review finding, with a regression test that failed before the fix and passes afterward. It also adds three-profile, rejection-path, private-window, and keyboard UI coverage. Keeping the replacement in draft while the proposed defaults await feedback in #287; test results and platform limitations are in its description.
