Builds on #1339; merge that first; until then this PR shows its commit too. (The audit test lives there. This PR's own commit is f877ea96.)

Part of #1335 (docs/gaps.md gap 25, Accessibility): the second slice. Four quiet panels get names, roles, state, keyboard operation and, where they only paint, a description in the AccessKit tree, and move from the audit's "counted" set to the must-be-zero set.

What is covered

Panel What changed
Info It only paints text, so the tree held nothing. Every line is now also a read-out with a sentence a reader can speak ("Red: 128", "Selected layers: Red", "Time: 0:00:00:00", Duration, In / Out, preview fps, render line, the key line); the colour swatch under the pointer is an image ("Color under the pointer: r, g, b"). Nothing here is operable, so there is no keyboard work.
Flowchart Nodes are list items named by what they are and what they use ("Mid, Composition, uses 1"; selected; position in the set). The chart is one Tab stop (the selected node, else the first drawn). Up / Down / Home / End move through the nodes, Right goes to a node this one uses, Left back to one that uses it, Enter opens the comp (as a double click), Space reveals (as a Cmd/Ctrl click); the focus follows and the view pans to keep the node in sight; a focus ring. Effects / Layers / Solids are toggle buttons with their on state; the direction button and the background (a named group, no longer a Tab stop) are named. The toolbar labels go through tr. The arrows and Enter belong to the chart while it has the focus (as for Project, Effects & Presets and the Render Queue: menus.rs nudge and layer-rename guards).
Script Console The output is a log (the newest 200 lines as its value), the input is named, Run and Clear are buttons with a name, a disabled state and a focus ring (Run is unavailable with nothing typed, Clear with nothing to clear). Tab now leaves the input instead of typing a tab character (the multiline field trapped the keyboard); Ctrl+Enter, Enter / Space on the buttons work.
3D Camera Tracker block (Effect Controls, camera_tracker_ui.rs) Analyze / Cancel / Create Camera through tr (Analyze unavailable while an analysis runs); the status line ("Not analyzed: click Analyze", "Method Used: ...") and the solved-points line are read-outs.

Audit changes (ui_accessibility_audit.rs): read-outs, images and logs count as described items (an unnamed image or log is a finding in a fixed panel); Info, Flowchart, Script Console and CameraTracker are in FIXED with minimum counts (Info 6 / 8, Flowchart 6 / 8, Script Console 4, CameraTracker 3); Info, Flowchart and Script Console get their own scenarios in a fresh window, panel maximized (in the shared loop each panel opened squeezes the next, see limits). The baseline map only shrank: Flowchart:default and ScriptConsole:default left it, EssentialGraphics:default went 2 (2) to 1 (1) (see limits).

Before / after

The new audit on the unchanged panels, then on this branch:

Scenario before: findings (unnamed), controls + described items after
Info (nothing selected, layer selected) 0 (0), 0: nothing in the tree, fails the minimum 0 (0), 7 and 9
Flowchart (comp, then layers + effects, top to bottom) 22 (11), 19 0 (0), 17
Script Console (empty, with a run in the log) 10 (6), 6 0 (0), 8
3D Camera Tracker block 0 (0), 2 (the status text was not in the tree) 0 (0), 3

Skipped on purpose (open PRs touch their files)

Commands actually run

  • cargo test -p effectcraft-ui-egui --no-fail-fast: 752 passed, 0 failed, 11 ignored (740 before; +6 flowchart, +4 script console, +2 info / camera tracker keyboard and tree tests)
  • cargo test -p effectcraft-ui-egui --test ui_accessibility_audit -- --nocapture before and after (numbers above)
  • cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets -- -D warnings: clean
  • cargo fmt --all --check: clean
  • cargo xtask layers: ok
  • cargo xtask wasm: ok (32 crates; one pre-existing dead-code warning in pointer_wrap.rs, not from this change)

Not run: the full cargo xtask ci (tests of the other crates, assets), the app on a display, any screen reader.

Strings with no catalog row (English in every language)

"Red: {}", "Green: {}", "Blue: {}", "Alpha: {}", "X: {}", "Y: {}", "Color under the pointer: {}", "Selected layers: {}", "Script Console output", "{}, {}, uses {}", "{}, {}", "Top to Bottom", "Left to Right", "Effects", "Layers", "Solids", "Solid", "Layer", "Effect", "Analyze", "Create Camera". ("Run", "Clear", "Cancel", "Composition", "Footage", "Flowchart: {}" and the Script Console hint have rows. The Info panel's own painted labels "R :" ... and the "Duration: / In: / Out:" lines were English before and still are.)

Honest limits

  • No screen reader was run (NVDA, VoiceOver, Orca). The tree is checked, not how a reader speaks it. Read-outs use Role::Label with the sentence as the name; how each platform adapter voices a named label is untested.
  • Only the Flowchart's cursor node can take the keyboard focus (like the rows of the Render Queue and Effects & Presets); the other nodes have a Click action and a name, but no Focus action. A node scrolled out of the view is not in the tree; the keys pan to the node they move to, but if every node is out of the view the keys have nothing focused to act on.
  • Info's colour swatch / X / Y read-outs only exist while the pointer is over a frame; the headless audit has no pointer there, so that image path is in the code but not covered by a test.
  • The 3D Camera Tracker's solved points in the viewer (click / marquee / Delete) stay mouse-only: this PR covers the Effect Controls block only.
  • Script Console: Tab no longer inserts a tab character into a script (use spaces); that is a behaviour change, made because the field trapped the keyboard.
  • The audit scenarios for the other panels still run in the shared loop where the panels opened before squeeze later ones; Lumetri Scopes, Media Browser, Metadata and Content-Aware Fill read "0 controls" there because they are squeezed to a few pixels, not because they are accessible. Not fixed here (changing the loop would change every baseline number).
  • EssentialGraphics:default fell from 2 (2) to 1 (1) without being touched. My explanation, not proven: its audit rectangle overlapped the Script Console's unnamed buttons in the squeezed layout, and those are named now.
  • Focus order across panels, colour-blindness, text size and reduced motion are not checked. Info still scrolls with the wheel and drag only.
  • Expected conflicts: menus.rs (the two guard lines I touch; Shortcuts: panel and context scopes, one chord per scope [skip ci] #1266 / Shortcuts: default keys shared between a panel and the application [skip ci] #1270 / Shortcuts: the arrow keys move the track point pressed in the viewer [skip ci] #1304 and the other shortcut PRs, Composition Mini-Flowchart: Tab from the Timeline and viewer, focus navigation with every branch, as in After Effects #1338). I'll resolve with git merge upstream/main.

…tion for Effects & Presets, Settings and Render Queue

ui_accessibility_audit walks the AccessKit tree and counts unnamed or roleless controls per panel (zero required for Project, Effects & Presets, Settings and the Render Queue; a ratchet for the rest). Rows are named tree items with selected / open state, the page list is a list with positions, controls carry label and value, the lists take the arrow keys, Home / End, Enter and Space, popup lists take the focus when they open. ui_contrast checks the theme tokens against WCAG 2.

…e and the 3D Camera Tracker block named, described and keyboard-operable

The audit gets read-outs, graphics and logs as described items (a name is required in a fixed panel), dedicated maximized scenarios for the panels the shared loop squeezes, and minimum counts for the new zero panels.

The merge of main brought a double-click label hit area on the Properties
transform rows that had no accessible name; give it one so the audit ratchet holds.

Resolve conflicts in the Effects & Presets panel (keyboard navigation kept,
favourites now in prefs, presets draggable via PresetRef), the arrow-key
nudge and the docs; update two a11y tests to the prefs-based favourites.

Merged upstream/main into this branch. Conflicted: crates/ui-egui/src/panels/effects_presets.rs (kept the keyboard navigation, took main's PresetRef drag-and-drop and prefs-based favourites), crates/ui-egui/src/menus.rs (nudge: kept the panels that own the arrow keys, took main's mask-vertex nudge #1288), docs/gaps.md and docs/ui-parity.md (kept both sides' header text and changelog rows). Also adapted two tests (ui_accessibility_audit, ui_effects_presets_keyboard) to favourites living in session.prefs. Checks run: cargo fmt --all --check and cargo check --workspace --all-targets, both pass. No tests were run locally.

📝 Walkthrough

This change adds shared accessibility helpers and keyboard navigation to several egui panels. It adds accessibility audits, keyboard interaction tests, a theme contrast test, and documentation updates.

Changes: UI Accessibility and Keyboard Navigation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Accessibility helpers and widget behavior
crates/ui-egui/src/a11y.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/lib.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/widgets.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/panels/dialogs.rs
Shared helpers add AccessKit roles, names, values, states, and metadata for painted content. Widgets add accessibility metadata, focus outlines, popup focus behavior, and scroll reveal support.
Effects and Presets navigation
crates/ui-egui/src/menus.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/panels/effects_presets.rs, crates/ui-egui/tests/ui_effects_presets_keyboard.rs
Effects & Presets rows expose tree and focus metadata and support keyboard navigation, folder traversal, and effect or preset application. Application key handling avoids intercepting panel navigation.
Flowchart navigation
crates/ui-egui/src/panels/flowchart.rs, crates/ui-egui/tests/ui_flowchart_keyboard.rs
The Flowchart exposes named groups, nodes, and toolbar states. Keyboard navigation selects nodes, follows graph edges, opens or reveals items, and pans the chart to keep the selected node visible.
Render Queue controls and navigation
crates/ui-egui/src/panels/render_queue.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/panels/rq_templates.rs, crates/ui-egui/tests/ui_render_queue_keyboard.rs
Queue rows and controls expose accessible names, roles, and states. Keyboard navigation selects, reveals, expands, and removes queue items. Template controls receive accessibility metadata.
Settings accessibility and navigation
crates/ui-egui/src/panels/settings.rs, crates/ui-egui/tests/ui_settings_keyboard.rs
Settings controls expose accessible names and current values. The page list exposes item positions and selection, and supports keyboard navigation with focus transfer.
Readouts and Script Console controls
crates/ui-egui/src/panels/camera_tracker_ui.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/panels/info.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/panels/properties.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/panels/script_console.rs, crates/ui-egui/tests/ui_info_tracker_a11y.rs, crates/ui-egui/tests/ui_script_console_keyboard.rs
Info and Camera Tracker readouts, Script Console controls, and property labels receive accessibility metadata.
Accessibility and contrast validation
crates/ui-egui/tests/ui_accessibility_audit.rs, crates/ui-egui/tests/ui_contrast.rs, docs/gaps.md, docs/ui-parity.md
New tests audit accessibility nodes across UI scenarios and measure theme-token contrast. Documentation records audit coverage, contrast findings, and remaining accessibility gaps.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The inspected activation paths operate within the current desktop application session, reaching existing project-editing and scripting capabilities. They do not establish a new remote ingress or cross-service authority boundary; platform accessibility permissions remain outside the inspected source coverage.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Domain controls remain in consumers: effect application requires selected layers and uses the existing execution path; queue deletion retains rendering, editing and dialog guards while allowing a focused queue row to act as a non-text input.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Queue navigation resolves selection against current item IDs. Deletion clears the local selection before dispatch, expanded IDs are pruned against the queue snapshot, and command errors are captured in UI status. These mechanisms bound UI ownership without establishing transactional rollback of domain operations.

Align or distinguish the accessibility estimates.

docs/ui-parity.md and docs/gaps.md describe the same remaining accessibility work, but they use different ranges: 12–25 h and 10–22 h. If the scope and measurement are the same, use one range in both files. Otherwise, state the coverage or measurement difference. Contributors use docs/gaps.md for work planning, so unexplained ranges can produce different plans.

Fixed from the review: Enter/Space on a favourite star now only toggles the favourite (it no longer also applies the effect); keyboard activation of a property label reveals it; the focused Settings page row scrolls into view; the accessibility audit applies its 'since' filter before the no-bounds check; the render-queue mouse-pick test asserts the template was applied.
