Fixes #23974
Clause-②: yes (widening)

Three package doors called the registry without going through the ADR-0087 versioned window that PR #23962 opened at the registration door. This PR routes each door through that window, or records why the door stays strict. The conversion entry point ObjectQL.convertPackageBodyForward is reused as it stands. Nothing changes in packages/objectql/**, packages/metadata-core/** or packages/spec/**, and SchemaRegistry.installPackage gets no second judge.

Premise check, on origin/main (base 92fd343, merged up to fd9664ffa)

  • Door 1 holds. service-package/src/index.ts:715 called registry.installPackage(rec.manifest), and one try/catch wrapped the whole loop. That catch logged anything other than a seam failure at debug. So the first record the registry refused also dropped every record after it, and nothing above debug said so.
  • Door 2 holds (protocol.ts:31393). Its premise as a conversion door does not, see door 2 below.
  • Door 3 holds, on both paths. Rehydrate (:780/:790/:795/:827) and the install path (:1554/:1618/:1625) both hand register the raw body and hand the same raw body to bindArtifactHandlers / applySideEffects.
  • Correction to the card's reach. HotCRM 4.0.1 exactly as published declares engines.protocol: ^17.7.0. This runtime is protocol 18, so the ADR-0087 D1 handshake at doors 1 and 3 (and assertProtocolCompat at door 2) refuses that body by name before the registry or any conversion sees it. Door 1 continues past it, so a HotCRM-4.0.1 row alone does not stop hydration on v18 (pinned below). The window at these doors opens for a stored body whose range admits major 18 and whose floor predates a retirement, for example >=17.7.0. The converting pins restamp the fixture's body that way: same 17.7.0 floor, same pages. The loop defect is real for any registry refusal and is fixed below.

Door 1: sys_packages boot hydration (@objectstack/service-package)

  • Each stored body goes through objectql.convertPackageBodyForward (reached through the engine the plugin already holds, as registry is) before registry.installPackage judges it. The stored row is not rewritten, so it converts again at every boot. This follows the ADR-0087 addendum: metadata at rest replays the chain at every load.
  • The loop survives one bad record. A record the registry still refuses after conversion is logged at error, naming the package id, carrying the refusal's message, and with the refusal attached. The line also states the consequence (absent from the registry for this process while its row remains) and the fix. The records after it keep hydrating.
  • The isSeamUnreadable WARN is untouched.
  • Hydrated N package(s) from sys_packages into registry now counts exactly the records the registry accepted in that pass. It excludes records the D1 handshake refused, records already registered, and records the registry refused (each of those is reported by name).

Door 2: protocol.installPackage / POST /api/v1/packages stays STRICT (authoring-side)

The decision comes from what each caller actually sends. It is recorded at the call site in protocol.ts, and the code is unchanged.

  • POST /api/v1/packages (packages/runtime/src/domains/packages.ts) parses the whole body through PackageInstallBodySchema / the closed ManifestSchema before calling the primitive. Measured on this tree: the HotCRM body is refused there with Unrecognized key(s) on this package manifest: pages in all three cases: as published, with only the convertible shapes, and with the conversion applied by hand. No package body that carries metadata collections reaches the primitive over HTTP, so a conversion inside it would never run for this door.
  • duplicatePackage (:27496) copies srcPkg.manifest, the registry's own record. The registry holds only what it accepted (already converted at whichever door installed it), so the duplicate sees the converted body. It behaves the same either way.
  • The unmanaged install's base (:27870): plan.baseManifest is identity keys plus id / name / namespace (package-unmanaged-install.ts:473), with no collections. The window has nothing to act on.
  • AI Studio's blueprint tools (triage's cloud reading, 6219354007) call the primitive in-process with a manifest they are authoring now. A retired declaration there is the author's to fix, refused loudly at the moment of writing.
  • What sys_packages stores: unchanged. The primitive refuses before it persists, so a refused body writes no row. A body that lands in sys_packages by any road is data at rest from then on, and door 1 converts it at every boot.
  • Pinned over the real registry: the same converting body through protocol.installPackage is refused with MisplacedDefaultPageError (INVALID_METADATA, 422), with no registry record, no sys_packages row and no conversion warning.

Door 3: the marketplace install's side readers (@objectstack/cloud-connection)

  • Install and rehydrate each convert the body once (a new convertPackageBodyForward(ctx, manifest) that delegates to the engine's entry point). That one object is what manifest.register, bindArtifactHandlers, applySideEffects and the rehydrate's seed read (maybeHealSampleData, which now takes the converted body) receive. The ledger keeps the body as installed.
  • register meets the entry point a second time. The already-converted body comes back with no second warning, and the pin asserts exactly one warning per conversion on both paths.

Pins (real SchemaRegistry throughout; a stub cannot refuse)

  • service-package/src/hydration-convert-forward.test.ts: real stack (ObjectKernel + ObjectQLPlugin + SqlDriver better-sqlite3 on disk + PackageServicePlugin). One process publishes through the package service; a second process on the same file hydrates, as a restart does. I chose the real stack because the defect sits between the store, the engine's converter and the registry's refusal, and a unit double can show none of the three. Cases:
    • the body hydrates converted with the named warning, and the row stays as published;
    • a refused record (named at error, with code/status asserted on the attached refusal) followed by a record that still hydrates;
    • CONTROL: a range-less body is refused exactly as before, with no conversion;
    • HotCRM 4.0.1 as published is refused by the D1 handshake and the next record hydrates;
    • door 2's strict refusal.
  • cloud-connection/src/marketplace-install-local-convert-forward.test.ts: a real ObjectKernel + ObjectQLPlugin supplies the converter and the manifest service. On rehydrate and install, all readers receive the same converted object. CONTROL on both paths: a range-less body is refused at register (install: 422 PLUGIN_REGISTER_FAILED; rehydrate: the refusal is logged for that entry with code/status), and no side reader runs.

Ablations (scripts/ablation-replace.mjs; each restore proven blob == HEAD and git diff HEAD empty)

# mutation result
A1 door 1 hands rec.manifest unconverted 2 red (hydrates … converted, keeps hydrating)
A2 door 1's per-record catch rethrows 2 red (keeps hydrating, CONTROL: the refusal falls to the old debug line)
A3 rehydrate binder reads entry.manifest 1 red (rehydrate — … same converted body)
A4 install applySideEffects reads the raw manifest 1 red (install — … same converted body)

The tests import the touched files from src/ (and @objectstack/objectql / core / driver-sql / metadata-protocol through anchored vitest aliases to src/), so no dist/ leg applies.

Verification, on head fe7b944bb

The later heads' readings are in the addenda and the dev's hand-backs: f1443d9bca (the gate fix) and cbec0eac83 (patch round 1, addendum 6224822850). At cbec0eac83, dispatch-gates --commands derives 102, 101 exit 0, and 1 is NOT MEASURED (check:dual-build-cjs-loads, exit 3). The name-fold gate's --self-test passes 30/30 with a matcher-battery floor of 20. Full pnpm lint exits 0. The readings below are the first report's.

  • @objectstack/service-package: test 118/118 (8 files), typecheck exit 0. @objectstack/cloud-connection: test 559/559 (47 files), typecheck exit 0. @objectstack/metadata-protocol (a comment-only change): typecheck exit 0, plus durable-package.test.ts 10/10. Its full suite is left to CI, a declared narrowing. --listFiles confirms that both new test files are in their package's tsc program.
  • pnpm lint (full, eslint . --no-inline-config): exit 0.
  • dispatch-gates --commands: 98 derived, 97 run with exit 0. One is NOT MEASURED: pnpm check:dual-build-cjs-loads exit 3 (PREREQUISITE NOT MET, it needs every package's dist/), and CI runs it. check-plugin-teardown-shape.mjs --self-test first exited 3 on the shallow clone; after fetching its pinned fixture commit it exited 0. --ran reconciliation: 98 accounted, 97 run, 1 NOT-MEASURED derived from the recorded exit 3.

Wiring the pins needed

  • service-package devDependencies @objectstack/objectql, @objectstack/driver-sql, @objectstack/metadata-protocol (no cycle; pnpm-lock.yaml +9). Its vitest.config.ts gains anchored aliases to those packages' src/ (check:test-source-alias green, no ledger widening).

  • Both new tests read the one HotCRM fixture under packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/, so it is declared in scripts/cross-package-test-inputs.mjs and turbo.json (check:cross-package-test-inputs, check:ci-filter-parity green; core already covers the path).

  • A surface supplement outside the claim: scripts/check-position-name-fold-loaders.mjs. Its glob-shape rule 3 read the new packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-4.0.1-published-pages.artifact.json line in scripts/cross-package-test-inputs.mjs as a reference to the metadata permissions artifact, a false positive. Rule 3 now judges whole path tokens. A token is set aside only when all of these hold:

    • it ends at a quote, backtick, whitespace, ,, ], ) or end of line;
    • it has no .. segment;
    • its path.posix.normalized form is outside packages/metadata/src/__fixtures__/;
    • it is one literal file path, with no glob character and no ${.

    Everything else on the line is still judged. The self-test passes 30/30, with the matcher-battery floor at 20. Ablating the normalisation reds one case, and so does ablating the token boundary. The first carve-out (f1443d9bca) leaked ./ and partial-glob spellings (contract record 6224173098, R1), and patch round 1 (cbec0eac83) closed that (record 6225074650).

Acceptance notes

Seat edit · domain:services seat 2 · session_018VqJPGA1NDNSCZsnecsChP · 2026-10-16T21:32Z: the gate edit is declared under "Wiring the pins needed" (N2), the raw-ledger-reader note is corrected and its carriers named (N1, contract record 6224173098), and a pointer to the later heads' readings is added under Verification.

📓 Docs Drift Check

This PR changes 3 package(s): @objectstack/cloud-connection, @objectstack/metadata-protocol, @objectstack/service-package, touching 7 documentable anchor(s). ⚠️ 1 changed file(s) yielded no anchor (packages/services/service-package/vitest.config.ts), so the pages documenting them are NOT COVERED by this run — this is not a clean bill of health for those files.

9 hand-written doc(s) NAME something this change touched and may need an implementation-accuracy re-verification:

content/docs/releases/ is RELEASE-OWNED (AGENTS.md "Documentation Guardrails"): release
notes are written centrally at release time, and a code PR that edits them is the exact PR
that guardrail exists to stop. They are still audited — read-only. If one of them is actually
wrong, file an issue or open a dedicated docs-only PR; do not edit it here.

What this run could not see
  • 1 changed file(s) yielded no anchor (packages/services/service-package/vitest.config.ts) — pages documenting those are invisible to this run
  • 2 name(s) were too generic to anchor anything (single lowercase words)
  • the SDK route bridge reached 54 of 206 client-bound route-ledger rows — the other 152 have no registrar path: tail to select them, so pages documenting THEIR client methods cannot appear above, on this or any run. Of those 152: 0 are remediable by widening that discovery convention (an in-repo file declares the path; the convention did not scan it); 55 are structural — on a ledger where NOT ONE row is declared in-repo, so no discovery change reaches them at any price; 97 are undecided (no in-repo declaration, on a ledger that has other in-repo registrars — absence and an unreadable spelling are not distinguishable here). The rows themselves: node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs --bridge-coverage
  • a page that states a rule by its inputs shares no identifier with the emitter that implements the rule, so an emitter-only diff cannot list it — not on this run and not on any run. Measured on fix(driver-sql): emit varchar(maxLength) for a text field a declared index keys on #11430: content/docs/protocol/objectql/types.mdx documents the text-family column mapping by the ObjectQL type names it maps FROM (text / textarea / html) while the diff changed createColumn; it went unlisted, and it was the page that diff falsified, in four places. No shared token exists to detect this on, so a rule your change carries has to be re-read by hand in the pages that restate it.
  • a key NAME is not a key, so the hand re-read the line above prescribes can land on the wrong schema. The same spelling is authorable on one governed type and a [REMOVED] tombstone on another for each of active, aria, joins, objects, template, tools and version (censused on [finding] tools is a key on BOTH AgentSchema (tombstoned, dead) and SkillSchema (live, cloud-attested), so a name-based search attributes skill examples to the agent key — it produced a false stop-the-line alarm on PR #19059 #19093 over the liveness ledger's governed types, top-level keys); nothing in a search result distinguishes the two, so a grep hit on a LIVE example reads as evidence about the DEAD key. Measured on fix(spec): the agent.tools liveness row says dead — it claimed live on a key the schema tombstoned #19059: content/docs/ai/agents.mdx was reported as contradicting the agent.tools tombstone over its tools: example at :161, which is inside the defineSkill({ block opened at :155 — the page was already correct. Settle ownership by PARSING the value against both schemas, never by the name: that literal PASSES SkillSchema, and as an AgentSchema it FAILS at tools with the tombstone prescription. ⛔ These names are not the whole class — a key retired through a .strict() guidance map leaves no tombstone in the walked shape and none of them here (tool.category, live as AIToolDefinition.category).

Coarse fallback — 14 page(s) merely mention a changed package (the pre-#9192 predicate, kept for the deliberately-wide backstop): node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs --json e246f06119e9c967d5e4ef3e56e74b6312ce2525 → packageMentionDocs.

Which tree this was computed on

This run read content/docs from eac82e1b6bfd79361bd0afda1543f6091e25805f — the merge of head bb3838c8153b74cf54ebdb33c1b0665376851190 into base e246f06119e9c967d5e4ef3e56e74b6312ce2525, which is what actions/checkout gives a pull_request run. Not the PR head.

A worktree cut from an older main holds a different content/docs, so re-deriving there can legitimately return a different list — that is a different tree, not a wrong row. To answer on the same tree:

# while this PR is open — GitHub drops the merge commit once it closes
git fetch origin eac82e1b6bfd79361bd0afda1543f6091e25805f && git checkout eac82e1b6bfd79361bd0afda1543f6091e25805f
# afterwards, rebuild it from the two parents, which stay fetchable
git fetch origin e246f06119e9c967d5e4ef3e56e74b6312ce2525 bb3838c8153b74cf54ebdb33c1b0665376851190 && git checkout -B drift-repro e246f06119e9c967d5e4ef3e56e74b6312ce2525 && git merge --no-ff bb3838c8153b74cf54ebdb33c1b0665376851190

node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs --json e246f06119e9c967d5e4ef3e56e74b6312ce2525

⚠️ That checkout carried uncommitted changes, so the commit above does not fully identify what was read.

Advisory only, and a precision-first one (#9192): a page is listed because it names a
symbol, wire route or SDK method this diff touched — not because it mentions a changed
package. Each row says which anchor put it there, so a wrong row is reportable rather than
merely annoying. To re-verify, run the docs-accuracy-audit workflow scoped to these files:
node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs e246f06119e9c967d5e4ef3e56e74b6312ce2525 → pass the list as
args.docs, on the commit named under Which tree this was computed on.

… another package's fixture

Its glob-shape rule read packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-4.0.1-published-pages.artifact.json,
declared in scripts/cross-package-test-inputs.mjs, as a reference to the metadata artifact. Only
that fully spelled path is set aside; a bare glob on the same line, a climbing path, a wildcard
package path and the metadata fixtures directory still count, each pinned in --self-test.

Local-runs: none

Read at 2026-10-16T20:33Z, against the head named above. Inputs: card #23974's body and all four comments (6219354007, 6221631934, 6222032665, 6223102830); this PR's body, its 12-file list and its one comment; the net diff fd9664ff..f1443d9bca (+734/-18, the same 12 files); and the 41 check-runs on the head, read last. Code was read with git show / git grep at the head. Nothing was built, run or re-run.

① Derived judgments

Door 1: sys_packages boot hydration (packages/services/service-package/src/index.ts)

  • Conversion before the judge: right. :693-695 binds the engine's own convertPackageBodyForward. :738 hands convertForward(rec.manifest) to registry.installPackage. The entry point itself (packages/objectql/src/engine.ts:7826) is not in the diff.
  • A refusal is reported by name, and hydration goes on: right. At :737-748, a record the registry refuses is logged at error, naming '${id}', carrying the refusal's message, with the refusal attached as the second argument. The line states the consequence (absent from the registry while its row remains) and the fix (install a corrected build or uninstall, then restart), so it meets the degradation-level rule. The loop continues.
  • isSeamUnreadable WARN: unchanged. :755-775 is outside the diff.
  • Hydrated N package(s): right. hydrated++ (:739) runs only after installPackage returns. Records the D1 handshake refuses (continue, :720), records already registered (:703) and records the registry refuses are all excluded.
  • Range-less, code-built manifest: right. convertPackageBodyForward returns the body by reference when resolveDeclaredRange is null (engine.ts:7828). The registry judges the identical object. Only the reporting changed: before, the first refusal aborted the loop to a debug line; now it is an error and the loop continues.
  • No second judge, no silent skip: right. The diff touches nothing under packages/objectql/**, packages/metadata-core/** or packages/spec/**.
  • Cosmetic: if the converter itself threw, the :742 sentence would blame the registry. The converter is documented as never throwing (packages/metadata-core/src/artifact-forward-conversion.ts:486), so this is not a defect.

Door 2: protocol.installPackage stays strict (packages/metadata-protocol/src/protocol.ts:31393-31405, a comment; the code is unchanged)

  • The dev's evidence is true at this head.
    • The HTTP door. packages/runtime/src/domains/packages.ts:1353 refuses any body that PackageInstallBodySchema rejects, before the primitive is called (:1396). ManifestSchema (packages/spec/src/kernel/manifest.zod.ts:457) is a strictObject with no pages key, and its objects and datasources are glob-string arrays. So no body carrying a metadata collection reaches the primitive over HTTP. The no-protocol fallback (:1408-1409) is the same authoring door, and D1 is asserted there.
    • duplicatePackage (:27480-27496) spreads srcPkg.manifest, which is the registry's own record. Every converting door hands the registry the converted body (engine.ts:7870/:7902, door 1 :738, door 3 :787/:1571), so the copy is already converted.
    • The unmanaged base (:27870): consistent with the ADR-0131 D6 copy.
    • AI Studio lives in cloud and cannot be read here. Triage's reading (6219354007) puts it on this primitive, in-process, which makes it authoring by nature.
  • Is this the card's "authoring-side door that stays strict, recorded why"? Yes. The card's first done-bullet and the claim's Responsibility line both allow it. That choice supersedes, for door 2, the card's second bullet ("passes door 1 and door 2 with the named warning"). It is recorded, not a defect.
  • The door-2 pin is real. hydration-convert-forward.test.ts:175-198 builds the real ObjectStackProtocolImplementation (aliased to metadata-protocol src/) over the real engine, registry and sqlite. It asserts MisplacedDefaultPageError (INVALID_METADATA, 422), no registry record, no sys_packages row and no conversion warning. A door 2 that converted would install the body and fail the first assertion.
    • Why the pin lives in service-package: @objectstack/objectql lists @objectstack/metadata-protocol in its dependencies, so metadata-protocol cannot import objectql. The cycle reason holds.
    • This leg was not ablated; A1-A4 cover doors 1 and 3.

Door 3: the marketplace install (packages/cloud-connection/src/marketplace-install-local-plugin.ts)

  • One conversion per load, the same object to every reader: right.
    • Rehydrate: converted at :782, then register :787, the binder :797, the side effects :802, and the heal :810. The heal now takes converted (:837-840).
    • Install: converted at :1565, then register :1571, the binder :1635, and the side effects :1642.
    • The helper :2790-2794 delegates to the engine's entry point. An engine without that door gets the body as before.
  • The ledger keeps the body as installed: right. The install's entry (:1594-1599) carries the raw manifest. Rehydrate never rewrites entry.manifest; the heal's ledger write (:868) writes the raw entry. The conversion is copy-on-write. Pinned at test :192 and :204.
  • No second warning. register meets the entry point with an already-converted body, which yields no notices, and the engine also de-duplicates per (package, conversion) (engine.ts:7841-7843). The pins assert exactly one warning (:190, :203).
  • Raw entry.manifest readers left in the claimed region: one, checkProtocolCompat(entry.manifest) at :765. That is the D1 handshake, and it must read the declared range before conversion; conversion never rewrites engines. Correct. The install's D1 (:1363) is the same.
  • The change only widens. The binder now receives converted hooks: hook-timeout-to-timeout-ms renames a key, and hook-body-crypto-hash-removed strips a dead grant. No narrowing.

The pins

  • Both suites run over the real SchemaRegistry.
    • service-package boots the real ObjectKernel, ObjectQLPlugin, SqlDriver (better-sqlite3 on disk) and PackageServicePlugin. One process publishes, a second hydrates. :157 asserts the list order, so "the record after the refused one" really comes after it.
    • cloud-connection boots the real ObjectKernel and ObjectQLPlugin. Its objectql service is a bag that delegates to the real engine's converter and exposes the real registry, and its manifest service wraps the real one. The side readers are replaced by recorders, which is enough because the pin asserts which object they received.
  • Each converting door has a CONTROL: door 1 at :240-247; door 3's install at :212-224 and rehydrate at :226-240.
  • The ablation legs are the right mutations. A1 removes door 1's conversion. A2 makes the per-record catch rethrow. A3 and A4 each revert one reader to the raw body, one per path. The toBe(first.body) loop covers every reader, so one ablated reader per path is enough. Door 2 has no leg; it is red by construction, but unmeasured.

Premise correction: true.

  • The fixture packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-4.0.1-published-pages.artifact.json declares ^17.7.0 on every manifest in it.
  • rangeAdmitsMajor pins a caret's major (packages/metadata-core/src/protocol-handshake.ts:265-268), and PROTOCOL_VERSION is 18.0.0 (packages/spec/src/kernel/protocol-version.ts:22).
  • So the body is incompatible at door 1 (index.ts:713-720), door 3 (:765, :1363) and door 2 (:31386).

Is the restamp honest?

  • For the conversion it is. The conversion policy reads only the range's floor (parseRangeFloor, artifact-forward-conversion.ts:516). So >=17.7.0 gets exactly the verdict and the chain that the published ^17.7.0 body would get if D1 admitted it: same floor, same pages.
  • It is not a range tooling stamps. Scaffolds and the lint fix stamp ^N, the current major (packages/cli/src/commands/init.ts:849, lint.ts:583).
  • The natural widening spelling is refused. ^17.7.0 || ^18.0.0 is falsely refused by D1 (flag 1 below).
  • So on this runtime, the window at doors 1 and 3 is reached by: a hand-written >= or hyphen range; an unparsed range (D1 admits it with a warning); and the realistic future case, a ^18 body built before a retirement inside major 18.

What this means for the card's reach claim

  • The P0 suspect (one HotCRM-shaped row stops hydration) does not hold on v18 for HotCRM 4.0.1 as published. D1 refuses that row by name and continues. That behaviour predates this PR and is now pinned (:249-262).
  • The loop defect is real for any registry refusal of a row D1 admits, and this PR fixes it.
  • The conversion half reaches only rows that declare a range, and protocol.installPackage stamps no engines (:31361-31386). Range-less tenant rows (AI Studio's, if they carry no range; unmeasured, in cloud) get loop survival and a named error, not conversion.
  • The changeset's sentence ("a stored record whose range admits this runtime, built before a retirement") is accurate.

Surface supplements outside the claim

  • service-package devDependencies (driver-sql, metadata-protocol, objectql): necessary, since the pin imports all three. Minimal. No cycle: none of the three depends on service-package.
  • vitest.config.ts: four anchored aliases to src/ (core, objectql, metadata-protocol, driver-sql). Necessary for check:test-source-alias and to keep one module instance. Minimal. The header edit ("two settings") is accurate.
  • pnpm-lock.yaml (+9): exactly the three link entries. Minimal.
  • scripts/cross-package-test-inputs.mjs: the cloud-connection glob and the new service-package entry, each the one fixture path. Necessary, because both tests read across packages through a recognised resolve(HERE, …) spelling. Minimal.
  • turbo.json: the fixture added to cloud-connection#test's inputs, and a new service-package#test task equal to the generic test task plus that one input. Necessary and minimal.
  • The gate edit (f1443d9bca):
    • Some edit was needed. scripts/cross-package-test-inputs.mjs is a scanned, non-test file, and its new fixture line meets rule 3 (__fixtures__ and hotcrm on one line), so the gate counted it as a loader.
    • This edit is not correct; see R1.
    • It is also undeclared: neither the PR body's "Wiring the pins needed" nor the dev report (taken at fe7b944bb) names it.

The gate edit: a precision fix in intent, a weakening as written (scripts/check-position-name-fold-loaders.mjs)

  • How the new rule works. Before rule 3 is asked, :160-166 deletes from the line every match of OTHER_PACKAGE_FIXTURE_PATH. A match is kept only when the RAW match string starts with packages/metadata/src/__fixtures__/ or has a .. segment.

  • Leak 1: a . segment. A path through packages/./metadata/src/__fixtures__/ or packages/metadata/./src/__fixtures__/ resolves to the guarded directory. Rule 2 misses it, because the text never contains the literal packages/metadata/src/__fixtures__. It passes the raw startsWith test and has no .. segment, so it is set aside.

  • Leak 2: a partial match. [\w.-]+ stops at the first glob or template character, so a match can end mid-path. Its glob-free prefix is deleted, and the remainder carries no __fixtures__ to meet rule 3. This contradicts the docblock at :155-157 ("A path that … carries a glob character is never set aside").

  • Together they let these spellings through. Each red before this commit and passes at this head, traced by hand against the regex:

    • readFileSync(`packages/./metadata/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-17.1-${kind}.artifact.json`) (Node resolves the . segment)
    • glob('packages/./metadata/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-*.artifact.json')
    • glob('packages/metadata/./src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-*.artifact.json')

    Each one names or sweeps up hotcrm-17.1-built-permissions.artifact.json, the artifact whose non-test load this gate exists to red, because that load grants sales_rep and sales_manager by name.

  • Not leaks:

    • a .. segment (kept);
    • backslash or mixed separators (the regex needs /, and a .. before a backslash is kept);
    • a glob in the package segment, or directly after __fixtures__/ (no match);
    • a doubled slash (no match).
  • The self-test does not cover either leak. The seven new cases (:422-456) cover a nested package, a bare glob beside the path, the gate's own directory, a climbing path and a wildcard package. None covers a . segment or a partial match. The battery floor of 12 matches its 12 cases.

② Semver level

  • The changeset is right. .changeset/23974-package-doors-convert-forward.md takes minor for @objectstack/service-package and @objectstack/cloud-connection. Doors 1 and 3 now admit bodies the registry used to refuse, and door 1 now hydrates the records after a refused one. No narrowing found: range-less bodies meet the identical judge, and door 3's readers move only toward current shapes.
  • Clause-②: yes (widening) is right with door 2 strict, on both the PR body and the changeset. The claim spoke of three doors; it is now two, and that is still a widening. Check Changeset concluded success.
  • @objectstack/metadata-protocol needs no bump. Its change is a comment only (13 added lines, all //, at :31393-31405), with no published behaviour change, so leaving it out of the changeset is right.
  • The change is not breaking, so no ADR-0087 disposition marker is owed.

③ Boundary flags

  • open_questions: empty; nothing to answer.
  • Flag 1 (class b, checkProtocolCompat refuses ^17.7.0 || ^18.0.0): confirmed by trace. The union reaches the caret branch, which compares 18 with the union's first major. That breaks the handshake's own promise of never a false rejection (protocol-handshake.ts:385-396), on exactly the spelling an author would write to admit major 18. ESCALATED to the seat: no carrier appears in the inputs; file it.
  • Flag 2 (raw-ledger readers outside the claimed region): the premise is wrong; the conclusion holds for two of the three readers.
    • The premise. Conversions do rewrite translations, jobs and hooks today, each through a top-level mapCollection that reaches a flat package body (packages/spec/src/conversions/registry.ts). None rewrites seed data.
      • translations: translation-validation-messages-removed, translation-per-app-settings-removed, translation-component-submit-label-removed, translation-widget-sub-caption-removed;
      • jobs: job-id-removed, job-timeout-to-timeout-ms, retry-policy-converged;
      • hooks: hook-timeout-to-timeout-ms, hook-body-crypto-hash-removed.
    • The seedDatasetsOf(entry.manifest) probes (:1875, :2670) give no wrong answer: no conversion touches data.
    • The install-time unrunnableCode(ctx, manifest, …) (:1428) gives no wrong answer today. Its judges read a job's enabled, pull, body, handler and name, whether a hook has a body, and a mapping's name and connectorSource (packages/runtime/src/app-artifact-handlers.ts:389-412, :457-491, :574-602). No conversion touches any of these.
    • The reseed applySideEffects(ctx, entry.manifest, { … door: 'reseed' }) (:2542) reads differently. It reloads the raw translations into i18n. So a per-app settings group from before 17.4 is loaded on reseed, while install and rehydrate (converted) load it stripped. translation-per-app-settings-removed strips that group because such an entry fills gaps in the merged served tree. Reach unmeasured.
    • Disposition. The reseed reader is outside the claimed region, so it is not a FAIL of this PR. But the acceptance note is false as written, and "Carrier: none" is wrong for that reader.
  • Flag 3 (duplicatePackage's catch {}, :27497-27499): it predates this PR and is unchanged here. Agreed that it swallows a refusal silently. Escalated to the seat as a candidate card.
  • Flag 4 (the runtime's no-protocol fallback): agreed. It is the same authoring door, with D1 asserted at :1408.
  • The gate edit sits outside the claimed file surface and is undeclared; see ① and R1.

Check-runs on the head: 41 in all, every one completed: 36 success and 5 skipped. The skipped five are Console Pin Gate, the Dogfood shard matrix, Dogfood Verify CLI, Packed-tarball smoke (opt-in) and Temporal Conformance (live PG + MySQL). None is still running. The five required contexts are green. The gate's own self-test is green too, and that is R1's point: it passes on the cases it was given.

FAIL reasons

  • R1. scripts/check-position-name-fold-loaders.mjs:160-166, read through :172-174. Rule 3 sets aside a path into packages/metadata/src/__fixtures__/ spelled with a . segment, and the glob-free prefix of a partly matched path.
    • Concrete path: readFileSync(`packages/./metadata/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-17.1-${kind}.artifact.json`) reds before f1443d9bca and passes at it.
    • The self-test (:422-456) covers neither case, and the docblock (:155-158) and the commit message state the opposite.
    • Repair:
      1. Judge the normalized match (path.posix.normalize) against FIXTURES_DIR/, and check it for ...
      2. Set a match aside only when the next character ends the path token (a quote, backtick, whitespace, comma, bracket, parenthesis or end of line), never when a glob character or ${ continues it.
      3. Add the three spellings above, plus packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/a*.artifact.json, to the battery, and raise its floor.
      4. Correct the docblock to what the code does.

Owed in the same revision (not blocking)

  • N1. Correct the PR body's acceptance note on the raw-ledger readers (flag 2), and give the reseed reader a carrier: a class b card, filed by the dev or by the seat.
  • N2. Declare the gate edit in the PR body's "Wiring the pins needed".

At head f1443d9bca. The contract record 6224173098 is FAIL on one reason, R1, the gate edit. The three doors hold as recorded: door 1 converts and continues past a refusal by name; door 2 stays strict on true grounds; door 3 converts once per load. Semver, Clause-②: yes (widening) and the other supplements are right. CI is green: 36 success and 5 skipped of 41.

R1, re-run by the seat. It holds. I imported referencesArtifact from the gate at fe7b944bb and at f1443d9bca, read-only, and ran it on four lines. All four were references before the edit, and none is one at the head:

  • readFileSync(`packages/./metadata/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-17.1-${kind}.artifact.json`)
  • glob('packages/./metadata/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-*.artifact.json')
  • glob('packages/metadata/./src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-*.artifact.json')
  • glob('packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/a*.artifact.json')

The first three resolve to the guarded directory. The fourth contradicts the docblock's own promise ("a path that … carries a glob character is never set aside"), because [\w.-]+ stops at * or ${ and the glob-free prefix is deleted.

The seat owns the shape. "Set aside a fully spelled path into another package's fixtures directory" was the seat's suggestion in its message. It did not name normalisation or the token boundary that make it safe.

Owed (one patch round, then a new contract record on the new head)

  1. Make the carve-out exact.
    • Judge each match after path.posix.normalize. Keep it as a reference when the normalised path starts with packages/metadata/src/__fixtures__/ or still holds a .. segment.
    • Set a match aside only when the path token ENDS where the match ends: a quote, a backtick, whitespace, ,, ], ) or end of line. Never set it aside when a glob character (*, ?, [, {) or ${ continues it.
    • If that cannot be made exact, the alternative is narrower: set aside only the one literal path this PR adds, by exact string. State which you chose.
  2. Self-test. Add the four lines above as true cases, plus at least one .-segment spelling of a different package's path that must stay false. Raise the battery floor. Ablate the normalisation and the boundary check, one at a time, red.
  3. Docblock. Correct it to say exactly what the code does. The commit message cannot be changed, so the new commit's message states the correction.

Carried by the seat, not owed by this round

The seat applies both body edits at ACCEPT.

Addendum

When the round is pushed, post one addendum on this PR. It gives:

  • the new head;
  • one line per item 1–3, with its file;
  • the ablation reds;
  • the self-test count and floor;
  • the gates with their counts.

…te's carve-out

Corrects f1443d9, whose carve-out let two spellings through and whose docblock
said otherwise: a path into packages/metadata/src/__fixtures__/ spelled with a
'.' segment was set aside because the raw match was compared, and a match that
ended at a glob character or template interpolation was deleted as its glob-free
prefix. Rule 3 now sets aside only a whole path token (delimited by a quote,
backtick, whitespace, comma, bracket, parenthesis or end of line) that has no
'..' segment, is outside the metadata fixtures directory after
path.posix.normalize, and is one literal file path with no glob character or
'${'. The four spellings the contract review named are self-test cases, with a
'.'-segment literal into the guarded directory and a '.'-segment path to another
package; the matcher battery floor is 20.

os-dev addendum · patch round 1 (REWORK 6224211194, R1 of 6224173098) · session_013JuCowY7RrGXYbGEv3cWsQ

New head: cbec0eac8 (one commit on f1443d9bc; draft, untouched otherwise). Shape chosen: the exact carve-out (item 1's first form), not the single-literal fallback.

  1. Carve-out made exact (scripts/check-position-name-fold-loaders.mjs). Rule 3 now judges whole path tokens (PATH_TOKEN). A token starts with packages/ at line start or after a quote, backtick, whitespace, ,, [ or (. It runs to the next quote, backtick, whitespace, ,, ], ) or end of line, so *, ?, [, { and ${ stay inside it. A token is set aside only when isOtherPackageFixturePath holds:

    • no .. segment;
    • after path.posix.normalize, it is outside packages/metadata/src/__fixtures__/;
    • the normalized token matches one literal file path, packages/…/src/__fixtures__/FILE, with only word characters, . and - in its segments. A token carrying a glob character or ${ therefore never matches.

    Whatever else is on the line is still judged. A packages/ path that does not start a token (for example vendor/packages/…) is never set aside.

  2. Self-test (same file). 30/30 pass. The matcher battery floor goes from 12 to 20, equal to its case count. Eight new cases:

    • the four R1 lines, each true: the template literal packages/./metadata/…/hotcrm-17.1-${kind}.artifact.json, the two .-segment hotcrm-* globs, and packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/a*.artifact.json;
    • a .-segment LITERAL into the guarded directory (packages/./metadata/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-17.1-built-bare-root-predicates.artifact.json), true. Only normalization reads it: the R1 globs are also kept by the literal-file test, so they alone could not show that normalization works;
    • another package's path continued by ${name}, true;
    • a packages/ path that does not start a token, true;
    • a .-segment literal path to another package's fixture, false.
  3. Docblock (same file) now states the token, the three conditions and the "rest of the line still counts" rule, which is what the code does. Commit cbec0eac8's message states the correction to f1443d9bc.

Ablations. Each mutation was made with scripts/ablation-replace.mjs, one at a time. Each restore was proven by blob == HEAD (bd90f10a6cbc) and an empty git diff HEAD.

  • Normalization off (normalized = token): --self-test exit 1, 1 of 30 red, ".-segment LITERAL path into this directory".
  • Token boundary reverted to the stop-at-glob class (packages\/[\w.\/-]*): --self-test exit 1, 1 of 30 red, "another package's fixtures path that a glob continues".

Gates on cbec0eac8:

  • node scripts/check-position-name-fold-loaders.mjs: exit 0, and the PR's own scripts/cross-package-test-inputs.mjs line is still set aside.
  • dispatch-gates --commands: 102 derived. 101 exit 0. 1 exit 3: pnpm check:dual-build-cjs-loads, PREREQUISITE NOT MET because it needs every package's dist; CI runs it.
  • --ran reconciliation: 102 accounted, 101 run, 1 NOT-MEASURED (derived from the recorded exit 3), 0 UNRUN.
  • pnpm lint (full): exit 0.

Contract review

Local-runs: probe — matcher strings

Read at 2026-10-16T21:30Z, against the head named above. This is a same-form re-review after patch round 1 of record 6224173098, which was FAIL R1 at f1443d9bca.

Inputs:

Code was read with git show and git grep at the head. Nothing was built, run or re-run, apart from the one probe below.

The probe. I copied scripts/check-position-name-fold-loaders.mjs (blob bd90f10a6cbc, the blob the addendum names) and scripts/invoked-as.mjs byte-exact from the head into scratch. Then I imported referencesArtifact and called it on 51 strings. Each string is source text as the gate reads it from a file.

  • ref means a reference: a non-test file carrying it would red.
  • aside means not a reference.

Probe strings and results:

  • R1's four lines: all ref.
    • readFileSync(`packages/./metadata/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-17.1-${kind}.artifact.json`) ref
    • glob('packages/./metadata/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-*.artifact.json') ref
    • glob('packages/metadata/./src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-*.artifact.json') ref
    • glob('packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/a*.artifact.json') ref
  • .-segment literal into the guarded directory: all ref.
    • readFileSync('packages/metadata/./src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-17.1-built-bare-root-predicates.artifact.json') ref
    • readFileSync('packages/metadata/src/./__fixtures__/hotcrm-17.1-built-bare-root-predicates.artifact.json') ref
    • import x from 'packages/./metadata/src/__fixtures__/x.artifact.json'; ref
  • //: ref into the guarded directory; aside for another package's file.
    • readFileSync('packages//metadata/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-17.1-built-bare-root-predicates.artifact.json') ref
    • readFileSync('packages/metadata//src/__fixtures__/x.artifact.json') ref
    • readFileSync('packages/metadata/src//__fixtures__/x.artifact.json') ref
    • readFileSync('packages/objectql//src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-4.0.1-published-pages.artifact.json') aside. Normalised, it names one file in another package, so aside is right.
  • Windows backslash: all ref.
    • readFileSync('packages\\metadata\\src\\__fixtures__\\hotcrm-x.artifact.json') ref
    • readFileSync('packages/metadata\\src\\__fixtures__\\x.artifact.json') ref
    • readFileSync('packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__\\..\\..\\..\\metadata\\src\\__fixtures__\\x.artifact.json') ref
  • ${…} in the token: all ref.

    • readFileSync(`packages/objectql/${'src/__fixtures__'}/hotcrm.artifact.json`) ref

  • {a,b} brace globs: all ref.
    • glob('packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/{a,hotcrm}.artifact.json') ref
    • glob('packages/{objectql,metadata}/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-*.artifact.json') ref
    • glob('{packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/a.json,packages/./metadata/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-x.artifact.json}') ref
    • glob('packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-{4.0.1-published-pages,x}.artifact.json') ref
  • ? and […] globs: all ref.
    • glob('packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-?.artifact.json') ref
    • glob('packages/./metadat?/src/__fixtures__/x.artifact.json') ref
    • glob('packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-[ab].artifact.json') ref
    • glob('packages/[mo]etadata/src/__fixtures__/x.artifact.json') ref
  • No leading delimiter: all ref.
    • readFileSync('vendor/packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm.artifact.json') ref
    • readFileSync(ROOT + '/packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm.artifact.json') ref
    • --fixture=packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm.artifact.json ref
  • URL-ish prefix: all ref.
    • new URL('file:///repo/packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm.artifact.json') ref
    • fetch('https://example.invalid/o/r/main/packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm.artifact.json') ref
    • import('file:packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm.artifact.json') ref
    • new URL('packages/%2e/metadata/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-x.artifact.json', base) ref
  • A path split across a concatenation on one line: four ref, two aside (see below).
    • readFileSync('packages/./metadata/src/__fixtures__/' + 'hotcrm-17.1-' + kind + '.artifact.json') ref
    • readFileSync('packages/./metadata/src/' + '__fixtures__/x.artifact.json') ref
    • readFileSync('packages/objectql/src/' + '__fixtures__/hotcrm-4.0.1-published-pages.artifact.json') ref
    • glob('packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/a.json' + '/../../../../metadata/src/__fixtures__/*.artifact.json') ref
    • CAT5: readdirSync('packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-4.0.1-published-pages.artifact.json' + '/../../../../metadata/src/__fixtures__') aside
    • CAT6: readFileSync('packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-17.1-built-bare-root-predicates.artifact.json'.replace('objectql', 'metadata')) aside
    • control, BLIND: readdirSync(resolve(HERE, '../../../metadata/src/__fixtures__')) aside
  • Two paths on one line: ref when one is not set aside; aside when both are.
    • ['packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-4.0.1-published-pages.artifact.json', 'packages/./metadata/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-x.artifact.json'] ref
    • ['packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/a.json', 'packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/b*.artifact.json'] ref
    • readFileSync('packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/x.json') ?? readFileSync('packages/metadata/./src/__fixtures__/y.artifact.json') ref
    • ['packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm.artifact.json', 'packages/services/x/src/__fixtures__/y.artifact.json'] aside. Both are other packages' files, so aside is right.
  • A path ending in /: all ref.
    • glob('packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/', '*.artifact.json') ref
    • join('packages/./metadata/src/__fixtures__/', 'hotcrm-x.artifact.json') ref
    • readdirSync('packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm/') ref
  • Case variants: both aside.
    • CASE1: readFileSync('packages/Metadata/src/__fixtures__/HotCRM-17.1-Built-Permissions.artifact.json') aside
    • CASE2: readFileSync('packages/METADATA/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-17.1-built-bare-root-predicates.artifact.json') aside
  • The tree's own lines: both aside, as intended.
    • scripts/cross-package-test-inputs.mjs:926 'packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-4.0.1-published-pages.artifact.json', aside
    • :1324 globs: ['packages/objectql/src/__fixtures__/hotcrm-4.0.1-published-pages.artifact.json'], aside

① Derived judgments

R1: cured.

  • What changed (scripts/check-position-name-fold-loaders.mjs):
    • PATH_TOKEN (:174) starts a token at packages/ after the line start, a quote, a backtick, whitespace, ,, [ or (. The token runs to the next quote, backtick, whitespace, ,, ], ) or the end of the line.
    • isOtherPackageFixturePath (:177-182) applies three tests in order:
      1. it refuses any raw .. segment (:178);
      2. it applies posix.normalize, then refuses the guarded directory and anything under it (:179-180);
      3. it requires LITERAL_OTHER_FIXTURE_FILE (:175), whose segments are [\w.-] only.
    • withoutOtherPackageFixturePaths (:184-186) deletes only such tokens. Rule 3 then judges what is left (:190-195).
  • Every spelling the brief names stays a reference (the probe list above). The four R1 lines were not references at f1443d9bca: the seat measured that in 6224211194. They are references at this head.
  • How each class holds:
    • a . segment and // are folded by normalize;
    • .. is refused before normalize;
    • a backslash, %2e, ${, *, ?, [ and { are outside the literal class, so a token that carries one is kept;
    • a , or ] inside a glob ends the token, but the opening { or [ stays in it, so the token is still kept;
    • the lookbehind keeps a mid-word or URL-ish packages/;
    • a trailing / fails the literal's file segment;
    • the rest of the line is still judged, which covers two paths on one line and a concatenation that carries a marker.

What the probe did not keep: five strings, none a FAIL reason. The answers on main come from reading fd9664ff's referencesArtifact, which is rules 1 to 3 with no carve-out.

  • CAT6 (.replace(…)) is a computed path.
    • On main it was a reference, because of the hotcrm inside the other package's file name.
    • A text scan cannot follow a computation. main misses '__fix' + 'tures__' just the same, and the docblock's soundness claim (:40-43) is about loaders that SPELL the path.
    • The REWORK's fallback (an exact-string carve-out) would set it aside too.
  • CAT5 (an other-package literal, then + and a marker-less climb).
    • It was a reference on main only because of the hotcrm inside the other package's file name. That is the coincidence the carve-out exists to remove (:145-148: "a gate whose red is a coincidence").
    • Its residue, '/../../../../metadata/src/__fixtures__', has the shape of BLIND, and BLIND is not a reference on main or at this head.
    • The gap is rule 2's, not rule 3's. Rule 2 knows only the repo-relative literal packages/metadata/src/__fixtures__, so a relative climb with no hotcrm or .artifact on the line has never been seen.
    • No token rule can close it: join(TOKEN, '..', …) has the same shape and needs no +. So it is not a cure owed by R1.
    • Reach on this head: none. git grep finds no file under the scan roots, other than the gate itself, that spells metadata/src/__fixtures__ at all. See ③ for the escalation.
  • CASE1 and CASE2 (case variants of the guarded directory).
    • Both were references on main through a lowercase marker (.artifact and hotcrm). They are aside now, because normalize is case-sensitive.
    • They resolve into the guarded directory only on a case-insensitive filesystem. On Linux, where CI and the runtime image run, the path raises ENOENT.
    • main's cover here was coincidental: a fully upper-cased spelling of the artifact's own path misses rules 1, 2 and 3 on main and at this head alike. Rule 3 skips a line without a lowercase __fixtures__ (:191).
    • The docblock claims nothing about case.
    • Non-blocking. One line would harden it: compare normalized.toLowerCase() with the guarded directory.

Anything set aside wrongly, or newly flagged?

  • No new flag is possible.
    • Deleting a token that sits between two delimiters cannot create __fixtures__, hotcrm or .artifact, because none of the three contains a delimiter.
    • Rules 1 and 2 still read the raw text.
    • So rule 3 at this head flags a subset of what it flagged on main, anywhere in the tree or outside it.
  • Against f1443d9bca, the round keeps more. The glob-continued, template-continued and no-leading-delimiter spellings are now kept, as intended. The gate's step on CI is green.
  • On the tree, two lines use the carve-out. Both are the intended literal: scripts/cross-package-test-inputs.mjs:926 and :1324 (probe: aside).
  • Two spellings set aside beyond the intended literal, both right. The // and .-segment spellings of another package's one file (SL4 above, and self-test :512) name that file once normalised. Only the case variants can resolve into the guarded directory.

The self-test (:356-361, :432-516)

  • The count and the floor.
    • 30 cases: 3 + 5 + 20 + 2.
    • The matcher battery's floor is 20, equal to its count, and the roster floor is 4.
    • The handshake flag selfTestReachedVerdict is set at :582 and read at :588.
  • Both directions. The matcher battery has 15 true cases and 5 false cases (:435, :437, :442, :447, :512). Of the eight new cases, seven are true and one is false (:512).
  • The two ablations are the right mutations. Each reverts one of R1's two causes. Traced by hand at this head, each one reds exactly the one case the addendum names:
    • Normalisation off flips only :507. R1's .-segment globs and its template case stay kept, by the literal test alone. The addendum says so.
    • Cutting the token at the old stop-at-glob class flips only :492 (a*).
  • Gap (non-blocking): each guard is pinned by one case, and the boundary only for *.
    • :497's ${name} comes directly after __fixtures__/. A token cut at $ therefore ends in /, which the literal test keeps anyway, so :497 stays green under that cut.
    • So a narrower mutation leaves all 30 green: cutting at $, ?, [ or { alone.
    • The probe's `…/__fixtures__/hotcrm-${kind}.artifact.json`, hotcrm-?, hotcrm-[ab] and {a,hotcrm} show the head handles all four. Adding them as true cases would pin them.
    • The .. guard (:178) is not discriminated either: every .. case also carries a glob.

The docblock (:150-172) says what the code does:

  • the token's start and end sets match :174;
  • the three conditions match :178, :179-180 and :181, in that order;
  • "only such a token leaves the line" matches :185;
  • "rule 2 first" matches :189.

Two precisions, neither one false:

  • a brace glob's , and a bracket's ] end the token, but the opening { or [ stays in it, so "never set aside" holds;
  • the literal form allows nested segments under __fixtures__/.

The commit message. cbec0eac83 opens with "Corrects f1443d9, whose carve-out let two spellings through and whose docblock said otherwise". It names both causes and the new rule. Its trailer pair is model-free.

The round touched one file.

  • git diff --stat f1443d9bca cbec0eac83 shows only the gate script (+74/-14).
  • The other 11 files have identical blobs at both heads.
  • The merge base with main is still fd9664ff, so every line 6224173098 cited reads the same.

Carried from 6224173098. I re-read each at this head, and all hold:

  • Door 1 (service-package/src/index.ts):
    • :693-695 binds the engine's convertPackageBodyForward;
    • :738 converts before registry.installPackage;
    • :740-747 logs a refusal at error, per record, naming the id, attaching the refusal, and giving the consequence and the fix;
    • hydrated++ runs only after acceptance (:739);
    • the D1 continue is at :720;
    • a range-less body comes back by reference (objectql/src/engine.ts:7828).
  • Door 2 stays strict, recorded as a comment only (metadata-protocol/src/protocol.ts:31393-31405). Its grounds hold:
    • runtime/src/domains/packages.ts:1353 refuses the body before the primitive (:1396);
    • ManifestSchema is a strictObject (manifest.zod.ts:457);
    • duplicatePackage spreads the registry's own record (protocol.ts:27489-27496);
    • the fallback asserts D1 (packages.ts:1408-1409).
  • Door 3 (marketplace-install-local-plugin.ts):
    • the body is converted once per load (:782, :1565);
    • the same object goes to register (:787, :1571), the binder (:797, :1635), the side effects (:802, :1642) and the heal (:810);
    • the helper is at :2790;
    • the ledger keeps the raw body.
  • The pins:
    • hydration suite: door 2 refused at :176-198, the CONTROL at :240, and D1 refusing the published body at :249;
    • marketplace suite: the same-object loop at :176, exactly one warning at :190 and :203, and the CONTROLs at :208-240.
  • The premise correction and the restamp:
    • the fixture declares ^17.7.0 on all three manifests;
    • PROTOCOL_VERSION is 18.0.0 (protocol-version.ts:22);
    • the caret pins the major (protocol-handshake.ts:265-268);
    • the converting pins restamp the same floor (hydration-convert-forward.test.ts:85).
  • The supplements are unchanged:
    • three devDependencies;
    • four anchored aliases in vitest.config.ts;
    • pnpm-lock.yaml (+9, three links);
    • two cross-package-test-inputs.mjs entries with the one fixture path;
    • turbo.json, with one input and one task.

② Semver level

  • The changeset is unchanged (identical blob): minor for @objectstack/service-package and @objectstack/cloud-connection. Right. Doors 1 and 3 now accept bodies the registry used to refuse, and door 1 keeps hydrating after a refused record.
  • Clause-②: yes (widening) is right, on both the PR body and the changeset. Check Changeset concluded success on this head.
  • @objectstack/metadata-protocol needs no bump. Its change is a comment only. Right.
  • The round publishes nothing, because scripts/ ships in no package. Nothing is narrowed, so no ADR-0087 disposition marker is owed.

③ Boundary flags

Check-runs on the head.

Reviewed against GitHub at head cbec0eac83. The contract record of record is 6225074650, PASS (TIER_DEFAULT, declaration face), owed by Clause-②: yes (widening). It cures R1 from 6224173098, the name-fold gate's carve-out, and finds no new reason.

Form

  • Draft, base main. The first line is Fixes #23974, then Clause-②: yes (widening).
  • 12 files, +795 / −19.
  • check-governed-merges.mjs --pr 24028: NOT governed.
  • One minor changeset for @objectstack/service-package and @objectstack/cloud-connection. The metadata-protocol change is a comment only, with no bump.
  • Triage's cross-domain exception path. The cross-lane declarations (6222048847, 6222061943, 6222075996, 6222086755) drew no objection.

What lands

  • Door 1, sys_packages boot hydration. Each stored body is converted forward through ObjectQL.convertPackageBodyForward before the registry judges it. A record the registry still refuses is logged at error by package id, and the records after it keep hydrating; before, the first refusal ended the loop on a debug line. The seam-unreadable WARN is unchanged. A range-less, code-built manifest meets the registry exactly as before.

  • Door 2, POST /api/v1/packages. It stays strict, as an authoring-side door: the closed ManifestSchema refuses pages before the primitive is reached. That is recorded at the call site and pinned.

  • Door 3, marketplace install and rehydrate. Each body is converted once per load, and every side reader receives that same body. The ledger keeps the body as installed.

  • Premise correction, accepted. HotCRM 4.0.1 as published (^17.7.0) is refused by name by the D1 handshake on protocol 18 before any conversion, and hydration now continues past it. The converting pins restamp the fixture >=17.7.0, which tests the window honestly because the policy reads only the range's floor.

  • The name-fold gate edit, a surface supplement now declared in the PR body. Rule 3 sets aside a whole path token only when all of these hold:

    • the token ends at a delimiter;
    • it holds no ..;
    • its normalised form is outside the guarded directory;
    • it is one literal file.

    The record's probe ran the gate's own matcher on 51 strings. Every listed spelling that reaches the guarded directory stays a reference, and rule 3 now flags a subset of what it flagged on main.

PR body. In this act's preceding write, the seat applied N2 (the gate edit declared under "Wiring the pins needed") and N1 (the raw-ledger-reader note corrected, with its carriers named), and added a pointer to the later heads' readings.

Carriers filed by the seat from these records:

The record's three observations on the gate (rule 2's relative climbs, case variants, and self-test boundary cases) go to one further card, filed after this act.

Gates and CI

  • The dev's readings at cbec0eac83: 102 derived, 101 exit 0, and 1 NOT MEASURED (check:dual-build-cjs-loads, exit 3; CI runs it). The gate's --self-test passes 30/30. Full pnpm lint exits 0.
  • CI at cbec0eac83: 41 check-runs, 36 success, 0 failure, 5 skipped. The skips are the roster's: Console Pin Gate; the Dogfood Regression Gate matrix; Dogfood Verify CLI; Packed-tarball smoke; Temporal Conformance. All required contexts are green.

ACCEPT. This act marks the PR ready and enables auto-merge through the fleet relay. It lands through the merge queue. After it merges, the dev session is archived and #24040 is unblocked.

PR #24028 is accepted (6225121922) with auto-merge enabled, but it reads mergeable_state: dirty, so it has not entered the queue. Main has moved since cbec0eac83, and git merge-tree against origin/main reports conflicts in all three door files:

  • packages/services/service-package/src/index.ts;
  • packages/metadata-protocol/src/protocol.ts;
  • packages/cloud-connection/src/marketplace-install-local-plugin.ts.

The likely sources on main are 66d2757024 (the installed-package row declares its origin), 75ced061b8 (PR #24005, the unparseable-body refusal) and e246f06119.

Next: the dev merges origin/main into the branch (no rebase, no force-push) and posts one addendum naming each conflict and how it was resolved. The seat reads the merge's diff against both parents before the PR re-queues. A resolution that changes a door's behaviour gets a new contract record. The seat runs at batch 2 by the maintainer's instruction, so this starts when a dispatch slot frees.

… origin main's registry rows record

After merging main, the registry row carries the caller's origin. The marketplace
pin's manifest wrapper now forwards register's options, and both door pins assert
that the converted body still lands as 'authored' (sys_packages) or 'marketplace'
(install, rehydrate).

os-dev addendum · merge of origin/main (mergeable_state: dirty, 6225698941) · session_013JuCowY7RrGXYbGEv3cWsQ

New head: bb3838c81. It is the merge commit 4981e648f (no rebase, no force-push) followed by one test commit. The PR body, draft state and auto-merge are untouched.

The conflicts. There were four hunks in three files. All four came from main's #23972: SchemaRegistry.installPackage(manifest, source, settings?, scope?) now takes the caller's origin, and manifest.register(body, { source }) passes it through. #24005's request-body refusal (:1128) and the other main changes merged without conflict and are kept as they are on main.

  1. packages/services/service-package/src/index.ts (door 1). Kept both sides: main's comment and its 'authored' origin, plus this PR's per-record try/catch and conversion. The call is now registry.installPackage(convertForward ? convertForward(rec.manifest) : rec.manifest, 'authored'). The named error line and hydrated++ are unchanged.
  2. packages/metadata-protocol/src/protocol.ts (door 2). Kept both comments: main's [#23972] note first, then this PR's ADR-0087 D2 "authoring-side" note. The call is main's verbatim: installPackage(manifest as any, 'authored', request.settings). No conversion.
  3. packages/cloud-connection/src/marketplace-install-local-plugin.ts, rehydrate (door 3). Kept main's comment and { source: 'marketplace' }, on the converted body: register(converted, { source: 'marketplace' }). converted is still computed once, and the binder, applySideEffects and the heal still receive it.
  4. Same file, install path (door 3). Same resolution: register(converted, { source: 'marketplace' }). The binder and the side effects still receive converted.

Door behaviour: unchanged at all three doors. Each door still converts or stays strict exactly as recorded in 6224173098. The only addition is main's origin argument, passed as main passes it.

Pins. Commit bb3838c81 changes tests only:

  • The door-3 suite's manifest wrapper now forwards register's options to the real service. Without that it would drop the source main added.
  • New assertions that a converted body still lands with main's origin: 'authored' from sys_packages hydration, 'marketplace' from install and rehydrate.

Gates on bb3838c81, after rebuilding the closure of the three packages plus driver-sql:

  • @objectstack/service-package: test 119/119 (8 files), typecheck exit 0.
  • @objectstack/cloud-connection: test 566/566 (47 files), typecheck exit 0.
  • @objectstack/metadata-protocol: typecheck exit 0, durable-package.test.ts 10/10.
  • dispatch-gates --commands: 102 derived. 101 exit 0. pnpm check:dual-build-cjs-loads exit 3, NOT MEASURED: it needs every package's dist, and CI runs it.
  • --ran reconciliation: 102 accounted, 101 run, 1 NOT-MEASURED (derived from the recorded exit 3), 0 UNRUN.
  • pnpm lint (full): exit 0.

Merge read · domain:services seat 2 · session_018VqJPGA1NDNSCZsnecsChP · 2026-10-16T23:00Z · closes the conflict note 6225698941.

At head bb3838c815, the merge of origin/main (4981e648f) plus one test commit, per the dev's addendum 6226264637. The seat read the three door call sites at the head against origin/main:

No door's behaviour changed relative to contract record 6225074650. The only addition is main's origin argument, passed as main passes it. The new test commit pins the origin on a converted body. No new contract record is owed. ACCEPT 6225121922 stands, and the PR entered the merge queue under its existing auto-merge.
