Multiple viewers can share a terminal, but only one is the **primary** viewer that controls the process's grid dimensions. Opening a detached window requests that role. Revealing or returning to an active dock pane also requests sizing control. Explicit sizing actions can request control; ordinary typing and pasting don't. A viewer that loses control doesn't continuously reclaim it from another viewer.

## Navigate scrollback and copy terminal metadata

Each terminal's header shows its workload title and working directory, with an icon slot that displays a progress ring while the workload reports progress and a resource or terminal icon otherwise. Select the title or working directory to copy its full value to the clipboard; a screen reader announces whether the copy succeeded. A long working directory compacts to fit the available width without losing a UNC server or share name.

The scrollbar overlays terminal content rather than reserving a gutter, and it marks commands you've run so you can jump back to them:

- Drag the scrollbar thumb to scroll through history.
- Select a command mark on the scrollbar to jump directly to that command's output.
- Hover a command mark to see its details in a tooltip.

The scrollbar retains up to 200 command marks per terminal; older marks are evicted first as you run more commands, even if their backing scrollback text remains available.

## Choose a terminal color palette

The terminal footer has a **Palette** control with **Dark** and **Light** options. This selection is a browser-stored preference for terminal content and command marks, separate from the dashboard's own theme:

- Changing the terminal palette recolors terminal content and command marks immediately, without reconnecting the session.
- Changing the dashboard theme in **Settings** changes the surrounding dashboard chrome, not the selected terminal palette.
- The terminal palette preference defaults to **Dark** and is shared by every terminal in the browser. An older preference that followed the dashboard theme migrates to **Dark**.
- In forced-colors (high-contrast) mode, the terminal uses system scrollbar colors instead of the selected palette.

## Navigate with the keyboard

Terminal applications handle many keys themselves, including keys normally used to navigate a web page.

Dock tabs keep the title they had when they were created, so a tab's label doesn't change as the terminal's reported title changes. You can also drag a dock tab to reorder it. When there are more tabs than fit the dock's width, scroll buttons and an overflow fade appear at the edge of the tab strip, and an insertion line shows where a dragged tab will land.

Use the [CLI attachment experience](/reference/cli/commands/aspire-terminal-attach/) if you prefer to interact through your own terminal. The browser terminal's graphical rendering isn't a guarantee that every TUI is accessible to every assistive technology; console logs remain a separate text view.
