Summary

  • Fixes Antigravity HTTP 403 recovery when web_search is enabled: a complete Google error envelope containing error.details[].reason === "VALIDATION_REQUIRED" may rotate once to an eligible sibling, using that sibling's OAuth token and Cloud Code Assist project. Raw envelopes are read within the existing Google 4 KiB / two-second bounds and passed through the existing error normalizer. Sentence-only verification messages, spoofed markers, malformed and oversized envelopes do not authorize rotation.
  • Match ordinary dispatch's Google-adapter, captured pool activation, replayability, cancellation, failover-limit and uncommitted-output gates. Keep recovery kind oauth-account-403, the existing snapshot/replay identity binding and unused-permit cleanup. Remove the contributor patch's durable needsReauth write.
  • Pass the shared budget into Antigravity adapter dispatch. Both 403 and existing 429 credential rotations hand their reservation to the next physical send, avoiding double charging. Other providers and ordinary dispatch retain their existing behavior.
  • Closes [Bug]: Antigravity VALIDATION_REQUIRED 403 does not rotate accounts when web_search is enabled #6666

Verification

Validated head: ff790ffee7a14b124169cc44445aef1e4827a1a4 (Bun 1.4.0, macOS). Started from PR head 0e90451c1eedd7259fac1783f4d220ae5bf789d6 after git fetch and confirmed equality with gh pr view 6710 --json headRefOid. This follow-up fixes both independent-review blockers without rebase or force-push.

  • Red-before: bun test ./tests/server/server-antigravity-web-search-validation.test.ts ./tests/server/inference-send-budget.test.ts -t 'real web-search sibling|undispatched adapter hop' — 0 pass / 4 fail on the original source. The real handler returned 502 for sibling build and pacing-admission failures; both direct and externally counted unused adapter hops stayed at budget 2 after release. After only the 403-preservation fix, the construction case passed and the real admission case still failed with one physical send and budget 2.
  • The replacement-construction/admission tests now run the real web-search loop. Both retain the safely formatted original 403, exclude injected diagnostic canaries, make exactly one physical send, leave budget 1, refund the remaining allowance, and leave durable health unchanged. Cancellation during sibling admission still returns 499 and refunds the unused send. The existing 429 identity/accounting control still returns 200 after exactly two physical sends with budget 2.
  • The shared budget helper exposes an additive refundableAdapterDispatchBudget view, used only by Antigravity fetch web-search. It defers hop confirmation until executor invocation. Other callers retain the ordinary view and its existing early settlement. Four original physical-send tests asserting that legacy contract are unchanged; four additional opt-in cases verify refund after pacing, backoff, cancellation and adapter refusal. Additional helper coverage checks direct/external bookings, single-use settlement, no refund after a send, no later swallowed external charge, and stale-permit fallback.
  • bun test ./tests/server/server-antigravity-web-search-validation.test.ts ./tests/server/server-google-antigravity-oauth-429-budget.test.ts ./tests/server/server-google-antigravity-oauth-401-replay.test.ts ./tests/server/server-antigravity-verify-replay-scope.test.ts ./tests/web-search/web-search-recovery-kind.test.ts ./tests/adapters/google/google-errors.test.ts ./tests/web-search/web-search-sidecar-429.test.ts ./tests/server/inference-send-budget.test.ts ./tests/adapters/physical-send.test.ts ./tests/lib/execution-budget-permits.test.ts ./tests/responses/responses-core-modules.test.ts ./tests/web-search/web-search-pacing-deadline.test.ts — 197 pass / 0 fail, 1,333 assertions across 12 files. Final output is retained locally in .tmp/h2-focused-final.log.
  • bun test ./tests/test-layout.test.ts ./tests/test-layout-tooling.test.ts ./tests/ci-workflows/file-size-ratchet.test.ts — 27 pass / 0 fail, 640 assertions. Existing test files were reused; both inventories remain valid, scripts/test-layout/layout.json remains 1,998 lines, and no cap was raised.
  • bun run typecheck — passed on the final source.
  • bun run structure:check — passed on the final source/docs.
  • bun run privacy:scan — passed.
  • bun install --cwd docs-site --frozen-lockfile and bun run --cwd docs-site build — passed; 561 pages built and 78,111 internal links checked. Provider docs and the two owning structure contracts describe refusal retention and the opt-in refund boundary.
  • git diff --cached --check — passed before commit.
  • gitleaks git . --log-opts='0e90451c1eedd7259fac1783f4d220ae5bf789d6..HEAD' --redact — passed; one follow-up commit scanned, no leaks.

The full local suite and test:changed were not run: this bounded parallel lane uses the explicitly requested focused validation scope to avoid contention. Hosted CI has not been awaited, cancelled or rerun, and no hosted pass is claimed. Fresh independent maintainer/security review of this head remains coordinator-owned; this writer's self-check is not independent approval.

Checklist

  • Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
  • Docs or release notes were updated when needed.
  • Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults.

The security box records the lane's self-review: untrusted refusal text cannot authorize rotation, bounded structured evidence is required, sibling token/project identity stays together, durable reauthentication state is untouched, cancellation/output/budget gates remain enforced, and fixtures contain synthetic credentials only. It is not an independent maintainer security approval.

Review readiness checklist

This PR stays in draft until every box below is ticked. Tick all four boxes once the requirements are met:

  • Required local validation passed; commands, results, and any full-suite exception are documented.

  • I pushed my PR to a recent dev commit (at most 10 behind; a maintainer may still ask for the exact tip before merge).

  • I resolved all correct Codex and CodeRabbit findings.

  • My PR is ready for review.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Reliability
    • Antigravity web searches can recover from recognized, structured account-verification refusals by retrying with an eligible alternate account when safe and within the request’s send limit.
    • Unrelated access errors, exhausted send limits, cancellation, stale credentials, or unavailable eligible accounts do not trigger account rotation; the original failure is preserved.
    • Responses already delivered before a follow-up search failure remain intact, even when the subsequent request is refused.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The Antigravity web-search path now detects bounded, structured VALIDATION_REQUIRED 403 responses and can retry with a sibling OAuth account before output is committed. The retry uses the sibling’s credential snapshot and the shared physical-send budget. Tests cover retry eligibility, excluded cases, and permit accounting.

Changes

Antigravity web-search recovery

Layer / File(s) Summary
Bounded validation-refusal detection
src/server/responses/antigravity-validation-refusal.ts
A shared inspector checks status, cancellation, and bounded-body safety. The raw-response check normalizes the Google error body before testing for the validation marker.
Sidecar sibling-account retry
src/server/responses/sidecar-execution.ts
For eligible Antigravity OAuth web-search requests, the sidecar checks the raw 403 response, selects a sibling, and binds its credential snapshot for retry. It retains the hop permit for dispatch.
Web-search dispatch and permit accounting
src/web-search/loop.ts, src/server/responses/sidecar-execution.ts
The loop passes the shared send budget and physical-send callback to custom fetches. Its pre-output 403 rotation condition includes Antigravity. Dispatch reports physical sends, and iteration cleanup releases an unused permit.
Recovery tests and documented boundaries

Tests cover refusal shapes, sibling retries, cancellation, send limits, credential changes, and permit cleanup. Documentation describes recovery conditions, accounting, and excluded paths.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 0e904

The change adds a bounded, structured-refusal retry to a sibling account for Antigravity web search. No actionable merge-blocking risk was identified; maintainers should still confirm CI before merging.
