feat(k9): reusable k9-conformance lane with the conformance verdict grid - #1308
Conversation
Consumers had no way to call the canonical K9 validator: deed-conformance had a workflow_call entry point and no caller, and K9 had no reusable at all, so every consumer ran a second validator (the k9-ecosystem action at @main, a grep for a `contract` line, or k9iser's generated output). Of the 53 consumer .k9.ncl files reachable on 2026-10-19, 44 fail contract v1.0.0, every rsr-template-repo contractile among them (standards#1058). This adds the lane at the source: - .github/workflows/k9-conformance.yml: push/pull_request self-run here, workflow_call for consumers. It checks out validator, contract and renderer at job.workflow_sha, installs the estate-pinned Nickel, runs the validator self-test, typechecks the contract, validates every committed K9 file at L0-L2 --strict --json, honours the caller's shrink-only .machine_readable/k9-contract-debt.txt, renders the grid, uploads the k9-grid artifact and exposes the `verdict` output. It asks for contents: read only, so the caller posts the comment (the same split as hypatia-scan-reusable). Inputs: require-files, fail-on-indeterminate. - scripts/k9-grid.sh + scripts/lib/k9-grid.jq: the conformance-family grid of docs/VERDICT-GRID-SPEC.adoc in bash and jq (no runtime to install; no JS growth). The item and state rules are those of 1-formats/k9/tools/conformance-report.mjs. report.json and badge.json are I-JSON serialised as JCS through ijson-jcs canon when installed, else jq -S -c, byte-identical for these documents (D306). - scripts/tests/k9-grid-test.sh: 43 assertions; missing, skipped or unreadable evidence is never a clean row, the ledger rules, routed and empty corpora are grey, revisions compare only under one profile, the artifacts are JCS. - docs/CONTRACTILE-DESCRIPTILE-VALIDATION.adoc: the determinations of 2026-10-19 (the interface panel is the verdict grid; one validator per family, pinned by the caller; L3 not certified; k9iser retired) and the install checklist. - WO-9 (template contractiles to v1.0.0) and WO-10 (install wave across echidna, echidnabot, proof-burrower, hypatia, panic-attack; retire k9iser) in WORK-ORDERS-2026-10-19.adoc (v1.5.0). - Cross-references in VERDICT-GRID-SPEC "Where it runs", CONFORMANCE-REPORTING "Reproduce" and the k9 tools README. - actions.lock: the k9-conformance entry written by the repair chain (relock-sha-keys, complete-job-refs, close-lock, prune-stale; check-lock-sync in sync). Every action it uses was already locked. Local gates: k9-grid tests 43/43, verdict-grid tests 29/29, Mustfile 14 passed, check-standards-map GATE D, duplicate-key check clean, link-rot on docs and 1-formats/k9/tools identical to main. The Debtfile deno-residue breach and the canon-lockstep hypatia score (no Hex in this container) reproduce on main unchanged. Reject unauthorized ledger growth before exemptions
When a PR adds an already-failing contract's path only to .machine_readable/k9-contract-debt.txt, the contract itself is absent from changed, so the renderer downgrades its failure to advisory yellow and the Gate passes. Nothing here compares the ledger with the base revision or checks for the documented Ratchet-exception, allowing existing red failures to bypass the conformance gate by growing the supposedly shrink-only ledger.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 18acd11. The enumerate step now diffs the ledger against the PR's merge base; entries present at HEAD and absent at the base are growth. Growth is accepted only when a commit message in the PR or the PR body carries Ratchet-exception: .machine_readable/k9-contract-debt.txt — <why> (or the Ratchet-exception(<ledger>): <why> form), the same declaration scripts/check-exemption-ratchet.sh accepts. Undeclared additions go to --ledger-growth; the grid gives each one a failing row of its own ("ledger + ") and grades the file it names as if it were not in the ledger, so the grid is red. scripts/check-exemption-ratchet.sh also lists this ledger now, so the governance ratchet catches the growth independently. Tested in k9-grid-test.sh (7j) and the step was exercised in a scratch repo for undeclared growth, growth declared in a commit, growth declared in the PR body, and a base branch that moved after the PR branched.

Let an empty enumeration reach the grid
For a caller with no tracked K9 files (or only files excluded by this filter), grep -v returns status 1; because this step enables set -euo pipefail, the enumeration step exits before creating the intended grey report. This breaks the documented default require-files: false behavior and also prevents require-files: true from producing its explicit red verdict and artifact.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 18acd11: the exclusion filter is { grep -v … || [ $? -eq 1 ]; }, so an empty enumeration reaches the renderer and gets its grey (or, with require-files, red) report. The renderer's own list_json had the same shape once the corpus joined the profile hash; fixed alike, and the empty-corpus test (9b) covers it.

Supply the previous report when rendering
The reusable workflow never obtains a prior marked comment or passes --previous, so k9-grid.sh always receives a null baseline and every “Since previous revision” cell remains — no comparable baseline. Callers only post the already-rendered report.md, and there is no workflow input through which they can supply the previous body, making the advertised revision comparison unreachable in actual reusable-workflow runs.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 18acd11. On a pull request the lane now reads the PR's issue comments with the job token, takes the last one carrying the <!-- verdict-grid:k9 regenerated on every run --> marker (the one the caller regenerates in place), and passes it as --previous. The job asks for pull-requests: read for that, still no write; the header comment, VERDICT-GRID-SPEC and the install doc say so. A failed read only costs the delta column.

Hash corpus identity into the comparison profile
The profile hashes the renderer, ledger, canon ref, and lane but omits the expected corpus. Once prior reports are supplied, adding or removing a conforming K9 file can therefore retain the same profile; because delta does not compare pass counts, the corpus row can report ↔ unchanged instead of ending comparison for the changed scope as required by the grid specification.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 18acd11. The profile now hashes the sorted expected corpus as well, matching what conformance-report.mjs does, so a corpus that gained or lost a file reports "no comparable baseline" instead of a false "unchanged" or "improved". Test 11h.

Validate file keys before indexing expected results
If a validator emits a syntactically valid JSON object without a string file field, such as {}, this expression evaluates $expected[$r.file] with a null key and jq aborts with Cannot index object with null. The rendering step then fails without the intended orange report or evidence artifact, even though the following branch is explicitly meant to classify invalid result objects as indeterminate.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.

Fixed in 18acd11. A record whose file is not a string is classed with the invalid results before any lookup, as an indeterminate "validator output" row, so jq no longer aborts. Test 7i.

Keep explained advisory exits out of the orange state
In a real workflow run, every ledgered failing file still makes k9-validate.sh exit 1, so CORPUS_CODE is nonzero even though its result row is intentionally an advisory failure. This condition treats advisory failures as unable to explain that exit and adds an indeterminate corpus gate row, turning every debt-backed yellow run orange; callers using the advertised fail-on-indeterminate: true option therefore reject all permitted debt instead of allowing it as yellow.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 18acd11. Any fail row, advisory or not, now explains a nonzero validator exit; the "corpus gate" row is added only when no fail or indeterminate row accounts for it. The rule differs from conformance-report.mjs on purpose and the jq says so: that lane reads the ledger-aware hook's exit, where only a blocking row can explain it, while this lane records the raw validator's worst exit, which fails ledgered files too. Test 7h: a ledgered untouched failure with --corpus-code 1 is yellow.

Diff PR changes from the merge base
When the base branch advances after a PR branch was created, the two-endpoint git diff "$BASE_SHA" "$HEAD_SHA" compares the current base and head trees directly, so files changed only on the base branch are incorrectly added to changed. If such a file is ledgered and still failing in the checked-out head, its exemption is revoked and the PR becomes red despite not touching it; the equivalent existing conformance reporter uses the documented merge-base form BASE...HEAD for this reason.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 18acd11. The changed-file list is git diff --name-only $(git merge-base BASE HEAD) HEAD; the pull-request checkout is full (fetch-depth is '0' on pull_request, a string so the expression does not treat it as falsy) so the merge base resolves and the ledger ratchet can read the PR's commit messages. Verified in a scratch repo where the base branch changed a ledgered file after the PR branched: that file no longer appears as changed.

Count warning advisories in report deltas
Warning-bearing passing rows set advisory: true, but this count includes advisories only when their status is fail. Consequently a yellow category produced solely by warnings reports zero advisories, and adding or removing warnings leaves both failed and advisory unchanged so the delta incorrectly says ↔ unchanged; include passing advisory rows in the advisory count or otherwise compare their state.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 18acd11. counts.warnings counts passing rows with warnings; the Pass column shows "N (M with warnings)", the baseline carries it, and the delta reports "fewer warnings" / "more warnings" after the failure and advisory comparisons. The Fail column's advisory count keeps its meaning (ledgered failures). Tests 8 and 11g.

Reject ledger paths absent from the live corpus
After processing validator results, this only adds rows for expected files lacking results and never checks whether each ledger entry still appears in expected. Deleting or renaming a debt-backed K9 file while leaving its exemption therefore silently drops the entry from the report and can produce green instead of the required stale-ledger failure; the repository's current ledger already contains twelve nonexistent PROTOCOL.k9 paths that this lane ignores.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 18acd11. A ledger entry that names no tracked K9 file is now a failing row ("Stale debt exemption: this path is not a tracked K9 file."), test 7k. This repo's own ledger carried twelve such PROTOCOL.k9 paths that were never tracked under those names; they are removed (shrink), with a dated note in the ledger header, and .githooks/validate-k9.sh and the .mjs tests still pass on the shrunk ledger.
Generated by Claude Code
…y exits out of orange Codex review on #1308, each at its source: - An entry the PR adds to .machine_readable/k9-contract-debt.txt exempts nothing unless a commit message or the PR body carries a Ratchet-exception naming the ledger (the exemption ratchet's form). The lane diffs the ledger against the merge base, writes the undeclared additions to --ledger-growth, and the grid gives each a failing row of its own while grading the file as unledgered. The governance exemption ratchet now watches this ledger too. - A ledgered (advisory) failure explains the validator's nonzero exit: the exit here is the raw validator's, not the ledger-aware hook's, so the "corpus gate" row no longer turns a yellow grid orange. - A ledger path that names no tracked K9 file is a stale exemption (red). The twelve session-management PROTOCOL.k9 paths in this repo's ledger were never tracked files; removed (shrink). - A validator record with no string file key is invalid evidence, not a jq abort. - The profile covers the corpus, as conformance-report.mjs does, so a corpus that gained or lost a file is "no comparable baseline", never "fewer failures". - Passing-with-warnings rows are counted (counts.warnings) and the delta column reports them. - On a pull request the checkout is full, the changed-file list is the merge-base diff, and the lane reads the last posted grid comment (pull-requests: read) so --previous is actually supplied. - An enumeration with no K9 file no longer fails under pipefail. scripts/tests/k9-grid-test.sh: 43 -> 54 assertions; the enumerate step was exercised in a scratch repository for undeclared growth, growth declared in a commit, growth declared in the PR body, a base branch that moved, a push event and an empty corpus. Preserve the require-files failure in report artifacts
When require-files: true is used with an empty corpus, the renderer has already written a green report.json, report.md, and badge because the self-test and typecheck passed; this block only appends a second step-output value. The fresh post-render override fixes the gate output but leaves callers posting and publishing a green artifact from a failed job, so the missing-file failure needs to be represented in the rendered report itself.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 12cbeb0. The workflow passes --require-files to the renderer, and an empty corpus then becomes a failing "live corpus" row in the grid itself, so report.md, report.json and badge.json carry the red the job reports; the post-render output override is removed. Test 9c covers the grid state and the badge message.

Avoid unauthenticated refetches in private callers
When a private repository calls this workflow for a PR, the checkout deliberately uses persist-credentials: false, so this unconditional git fetch origin has no authentication and sends every run down the BASE_UNRESOLVED path even though fetch-depth: 0 already fetched all branch history. The pinned actions/checkout documentation documents both behaviors; use the locally fetched base object first, or explicitly authenticate this fetch.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 12cbeb0. The step first checks the full checkout for the base commit (git cat-file -e "$BASE_SHA^{commit}") and only falls back to the credential-less fetch when it is absent, so a private caller resolves the merge base from what checkout already fetched.

Authenticate the comment selected as the baseline
On PRs where an untrusted contributor can comment, this selects the last comment containing the public marker without checking its author. A contributor can therefore post a forged marker and baseline after the bot's original comment, causing subsequent reports to display fabricated improvements or regressions indefinitely; restrict baseline selection to the caller's posting bot or otherwise verify ownership.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 12cbeb0. Baseline selection is restricted to comments by the posting account: a new grid-author input (default github-actions[bot], for callers that post with the job token) is matched against user.login alongside the marker, so a contributor's comment is never read as a baseline. The header comment and the install doc name the input.

Treat newly blocking debt as a regression
When a ledgered failing file was untouched in the previous revision but is touched now, the category changes from yellow advisory to red blocking while failed remains 1 and advisory falls from 1 to 0. This branch consequently reports ↑ fewer advisories, reversing the actual regression; the inverse transition similarly labels red-to-yellow as ↓ more advisories. Compare blocking-failure counts or category states before interpreting the advisory count direction.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 12cbeb0. delta now compares blocking failures (failed minus advisory) before anything else, then the total failed count, then advisories and warnings, so a ledgered failure the PR starts touching reads "↓ regressed (1 more blocking failures)" and the reverse reads as an improvement. Tests 11i–11k. The jq header records this as the one place it departs from conformance-report.mjs on purpose, since the .mjs has the same ordering and should adopt it.

Apply the lane exclusions in the reproduction recipe
When this recipe is run from the standards checkout—the location where the referenced validator and renderer exist—git ls-files includes the deliberately invalid fixture corpus and archived K9 files, whereas the workflow excludes 1-formats/k9/tools/fixtures/ and 9-archive/. The resulting report is therefore red and has a different corpus/profile from the lane it claims to reproduce; use the same exclusions as the workflow enumeration.

…the baseline, and order the delta by blocking failures Codex review on 18acd11: - require-files with an empty corpus is now a failing "live corpus" row rendered by the grid (--require-files), so report.md and badge.json carry the red the job reports instead of a green artifact under a failed job; the post-render output override is gone. - The base commit is used from the full checkout when present; the credential-less fetch is a fallback only, so private callers no longer land on the unresolved-range path. - Only the posting account's comment (input grid-author, default github-actions[bot]) is read as the previous revision's baseline, so a contributor cannot plant a marker with a forged baseline. - The reproduction recipe applies the lane's exclusions (fixtures, 9-archive). - delta compares blocking failures (failed minus advisory) before the advisory count, so a ledgered failure the PR starts touching reads as a regression and the reverse as an improvement; the .mjs ordering is noted as the one to update. scripts/tests/k9-grid-test.sh: 54 -> 58 assertions. …eproduction recipe CodeRabbit review on 18acd11: - baseline_of slurps the decoded marker and accepts only a single object, and a decode or validation failure is exactly one null. A marker that decoded to two objects, or to an object with trailing junk, used to emit two values, which --argjson rejects, so a planted comment could stop the grid rendering instead of only costing the delta column. Three regression tests. - The reproduction recipe tracks the validator's worst exit status and passes it as --corpus-code, as the lane does. - The WO-9 acceptance commands use a quoted $STANDARDS checkout variable instead of a <standards> placeholder the shell would read as redirections. The base-commit check and the recipe exclusions it also raised were fixed in 12cbeb0. Ratchet ledger changes on push events
The PR path now handles merge-base growth, but BASE_SHA is sourced exclusively from github.event.pull_request and this early return runs for every configured push event. This is fresh evidence for push-triggered runs: both changed and ledger-growth remain empty, so directly pushing a modification to a ledgered failing contract still reports it as advisory, and directly adding an exemption is never checked for a Ratchet-exception. Use the push event's before SHA (with appropriate fetching) rather than skipping debt ratcheting.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Agreed. In hyperpolymath/standards#1310 BASE_SHA falls back to the push's before (all zeros means a new ref, nothing to compare), the checkout is full on every event, and the before..sha range goes through the same merge-base, changed-file and ledger-growth logic as a pull request.

Reject malformed finding elements before indexing
A result whose findings value is an array is accepted without validating its elements, so valid JSON such as {"file":"a.k9.ncl","verdict":"pass","findings":["bad"]} reaches the subsequent .severity accesses and makes jq exit with Cannot index string with string "severity". The render step then exits without producing the intended orange report or artifact; classify records containing non-object or otherwise invalid finding entries as indeterminate before iterating them.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.

Agreed. hyperpolymath/standards#1310 treats a findings array holding a non-object as an invalid record (orange row "Unexpected, duplicate or invalid result"), with a test that a ["bad"] element no longer stops the render.

Escape Markdown syntax in rendered evidence
The esc helper only handles HTML-sensitive characters, pipes, backticks, and newlines, while the rendered IDs and reasons can contain contributor-controlled filenames and validator diagnostics. A failing file named with text such as .k9.ncl is therefore emitted as active Markdown in the bot-owned PR comment, allowing an untrusted pull request to inject links or images and distort the report. Escape Markdown metacharacters such as brackets, parentheses, asterisks, underscores, and backslashes before interpolation.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Agreed. hyperpolymath/standards#1310 escapes \ [ ] ( ) * _ ! ~ as entities alongside the HTML characters, pipes and backticks, with tests that an image id and a link-bearing reason are displayed, not rendered.

Exclude unrecognized
.k9.lock files from the corpus
This enumeration treats every tracked *.k9.lock as input to the K9 validator, although the normative extension reservation in 1-formats/k9/spec/K9-CONTRACT-SPEC.adoc covers only .k9 and .k9.ncl, and no .k9.lock dialect or validation behavior exists elsewhere in the repository. A consumer that keeps an ordinary K9-related lock artifact under that suffix will therefore receive K9 envelope/contract failures for a file that does not claim the format; restrict the corpus and workflow path filters to the recognized extensions unless .k9.lock is formally added to the contract.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Agreed. hyperpolymath/standards#1310 drops *.k9.lock from the corpus, both path filters and the reproduce recipe; the lane validates the two extensions the contract spec reserves.

Terminate validator options before passing file paths
When a tracked K9 file at the repository root starts with -, this invocation passes the path directly into the validator's option parser. The parser in 1-formats/k9/tools/k9-validate.sh:81-94 treats any -* argument as an unknown option until its existing -- arm is encountered, so a valid path such as -component.k9.ncl produces no result and is reported as indeterminate rather than being validated. Insert -- before "$f" so every filename from git ls-files is positional.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Agreed. hyperpolymath/standards#1310 passes -- before the path in the validator call.

…ings, end options (#1310) ## Problem Codex reviewed the last revision of [#1308](#1308) after its merge and raised five findings on the K9 conformance lane. All five are real on `main` at 764b7b3: 1. On a `push` event `BASE_SHA` was empty, so the changed-file list and the ledger-growth list stayed empty: a direct push to a ledgered failing contract stayed advisory, and a direct ledger addition was never checked for a `Ratchet-exception`. 2. The renderer's `esc` escaped HTML, pipes and backticks only, so a contributor-named file such as `[x](https://e.invalid/i).k9.ncl` rendered as an image in the lane's own comment. 3. A result whose `findings` array held a non-object (`["bad"]`) reached `.severity` and made jq exit, leaving no report or artifact. 4. The validator was called with the path straight after `--quiet`, so a tracked file whose name starts with `-` was parsed as an option. 5. `*.k9.lock` was in the corpus and the path filters although `K9-CONTRACT-SPEC.adoc` reserves `.k9` and `.k9.ncl` only. ## Change - `.github/workflows/k9-conformance.yml`: `BASE_SHA` is the PR base or, on a push, `github.event.before` (an all-zero `before`, a new ref, is "nothing to compare"); the checkout is `fetch-depth: 0` on every event; the enumerate step's range is the merge base of base and head as before, which on a push is `before` itself. `--` precedes the path in the validator call. `*.k9.lock` leaves `git ls-files` and both path filters. - `scripts/lib/k9-grid.jq`: `esc` turns `\ [ ] ( ) * _ ! ~` into entities as well, so no Markdown can be written through an id or a reason; a findings array with a non-object element is an "Unexpected, duplicate or invalid result" row (orange), never a jq error. - `1-formats/k9/tools/CONFORMANCE-REPORTING.adoc`: the reproduce recipe drops `*.k9.lock`. - `scripts/tests/k9-grid-test.sh`: six new assertions (non-object finding is orange and names its file; image, link, HTML and backslash injection in an id and a reason are escaped and still legible). ## Verification ``` bash scripts/tests/k9-grid-test.sh -> k9-grid-test: 67 passed, 0 failed ruby -ryaml -e 'YAML.load_file(".github/workflows/k9-conformance.yml")' -> ok bash scripts/check-lock-sync.sh .github/workflows -> in sync (no uses: changed) bash scripts/check-workflow-duplicate-keys.sh -> 61 workflow file(s) clean ``` The self-run of the lane on this PR exercises the escaping on the real corpus (every `.machine_readable/...` id now carries `_` entities, displayed as `_`). ## Follow-up rsr-template-repo#248 (WO-9 part 2) pins the lane at 764b7b3; once this merges it moves to this PR's merge commit before it lands, so the template's first consumer run carries these fixes. --- _Generated by [Claude Code](https://claude.ai/code/session_019a95kk88TZ1iegsBK3kox3)_ --------- Co-authored-by: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com>

Stacked on [#247](#247), which brought every K9 record up to contract v1.0.0; this PR makes CI check that with the canonical tools, at one standards commit, and retires every second validator in this tree. Before: `dogfood-gate.yml` validated the deed and the K9 files with the `deed-ecosystem` and `k9-ecosystem` actions at `@main`, and `deed-validate.yml` / `k9-validate.yml` did the same again. None of them ran the canonical validator, so the 16 non-conforming files of #247 were green here for months. The pre-push hooks were a third copy, grep-based. After: the two reusable lanes of hyperpolymath/standards, `deed-conformance.yml` and `k9-conformance.yml`, pinned with every other standards call at `b3ce78e1` (the merge of [hyperpolymath/standards#1310](hyperpolymath/standards#1310), which follows the k9-conformance merge in [hyperpolymath/standards#1308](hyperpolymath/standards#1308)), `require-files: true` on both. One validator per family, pinned by the caller (standards `docs/CONTRACTILE-DESCRIPTILE-VALIDATION.adoc`). ## Changes - `.github/workflows/dogfood-gate.yml`: `deed-validate` and `k9-validate` become calls to the reusables (same job ids, so `dogfood-summary`'s `needs` list is untouched). New jobs: `k9-verdict` posts the K9 grid to the pull request under `<!-- verdict-grid:k9 regenerated on every run -->` (one comment, updated in place; the reusable asks for `pull-requests: read` only, so the caller posts), and `badges` publishes `badge.json` to `badges/k9.json` on the `governance-badges` branch on every push to `main`, through the contents API so the commit is GitHub-signed and no checkout is written to. - `.github/workflows/hypatia-scan.yml`: a `verdict` job that posts the Hypatia grid the same way (artifact `verdict-grid`). - `.github/workflows/k9-validate.yml`, `deed-validate.yml`: deleted. - Every `uses: hyperpolymath/standards/…` moves from `75bd5994` to `b3ce78e1`: `governance`, `hypatia-scan`, `mirror`, `rust-ci`, `scorecard`, `secret-scanner` and the two new calls. - `.github/workflows/actions.lock`: rewritten by the repair chain, not by hand: `relock-standards-pin --to b3ce78e1`, `complete-job-refs`, `close-lock`, `prune-stale`; `check-lock-sync` reports in sync. The standards record now carries the actions the reusables use at `b3ce78e1`, the same set as at `764b7b38` (`dtolnay/rust-toolchain@683b588c`, `ossf/scorecard-action@fa7117db` replace the older ones). The full chain with `gh actions-lock` was also run in CI against this branch (echidna run 39336920170, since this container cannot fetch the extension): the governance gate at `764b7b38` returns 0 on the result and `check-lock-sync` is in sync, and the result is this lock minus exactly three dependency records. Two are the unreferenced `hyperpolymath/{deed,k9}-ecosystem@main` records, which `gh actions-lock` drops; the third is the `hyperpolymath/cicd-suite@0da816c0` leaf that the `cicd-suite@55556cf5` record (`main-estate-audit.yml`) nests, which `close-lock` cannot regenerate ("cannot resolve a symbolic tag for leaf SHA") and whose absence is the dangling edge GitHub refuses runs on. This PR keeps the closed lock; the two stale records go the next time the lock is regenerated with a resolvable `cicd-suite` leaf, which is `cicd-suite`'s pin to repair, not this PR's. - `.github/hooks/validate-k9.sh`, `validate-deed.sh`: thin wrappers over `1-formats/k9/tools/k9-validate.sh` (strict, L0–L2; L0–L1 when nickel is absent) and `1-formats/deed/tools/deed_lint.js` from a standards checkout (`STANDARDS_DIR`, default `../standards`); without one they skip with a notice and the lanes remain the gate. The `.a2ml`-on-sight error stays in the deed hook. `pre-push`'s header says so. - `README.adoc`: the K9 badge (shields endpoint on `governance-badges`). `.github/workflows/README.adoc`: a section on the lanes and why there is no second validator. Not in this PR: `coordination.k9.ncl` stays as #247 left it (it passes as a component); the deed's `(contractiles …)` clause needs no change (nothing renamed here). The pin was first `764b7b38` (the #1308 merge); the first lane run on this PR at that pin was green (13/13). It now sits at `b3ce78e1`, which adds #1310's fixes: push-event ratchet against `before`, Markdown and @-mention escaping in the grid, malformed findings as orange, and dash-leading names in the validator. ## RSR Quality Checklist ### Required - [x] Tests pass: the two hook wrappers run green against `/home/user/standards` (13 K9 files L0–L1 locally, 3 deeds), and both skip cleanly without a checkout. - [x] Code is formatted: YAML parses (both edited workflows), `check-workflow-duplicate-keys.sh` 33 files clean. - [x] Linter is clean: `check-lock-sync.sh` in sync; the governance lock gate at `764b7b38` returns 0 in CI; no `${{ }}` inside `run:` (values go through `env`). - [x] No banned language patterns. - [x] No `unsafe` blocks without `// SAFETY:` comments. - [x] No banned functions. - [x] SPDX license headers present on all new/modified source files. - [x] No secrets, credentials, or `.env` files included: the posting jobs use `github.token`; nothing is inherited. ### As Applicable - [x] Documentation updated for user-facing changes: `.github/workflows/README.adoc`, the README badge, the hook headers. - [ ] Repo deed, roadmap, TOPOLOGY, CHANGELOG, dependencies, ABI/FFI: not applicable. ## Testing ``` bash <standards>/scripts/relock-standards-pin.sh --to b3ce78e1… .github/workflows -> keyed to standards@b3ce78e1 (from 764b7b38, earlier from 75bd5994) bash <standards>/scripts/complete-job-refs.sh; close-lock.sh; prune-stale.sh bash <standards>/scripts/check-lock-sync.sh .github/workflows -> in sync bash <standards>/scripts/check-workflow-duplicate-keys.sh -> 33 workflow file(s) clean INPUT_PATH=. STANDARDS_DIR=<standards> bash .github/hooks/validate-k9.sh -> 13 file(s), 0 failing INPUT_PATH=. STANDARDS_DIR=<standards> bash .github/hooks/validate-deed.sh -> 3 file(s), 0 failing grep -rn 'k9-ecosystem\|k9iser' .github/ -> only the unreferenced lock record named above ``` On this PR the proof is the lanes themselves: `deed-validate` and `k9-validate` green, a 🟢 K9 grid comment from `k9-verdict`. `governance.yml` and `hypatia-scan.yml` run on pull requests against `main` only, so they first run here once #247 merges and this PR retargets; the `badges` job first runs on the merge to `main`. ## Screenshots None. --- _Generated by [Claude Code](https://claude.ai/code/session_019a95kk88TZ1iegsBK3kox3)_ https://claude.ai/code/session_019a95kk88TZ1iegsBK3kox3 --- _Generated by [Claude Code](https://claude.ai/code)_ --------- Co-authored-by: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com>

Problem
Consumers had no way to call the canonical K9 validator.
deed-conformance.ymlhas aworkflow_callentry point and no caller; K9 had no reusable at all, so every consumer ran a second validator: thek9-ecosystemaction at@main, a grep for acontractline, or k9iser's generated output. Of the 53 consumer.k9.nclfiles reachable on 2026-10-19, 44 fail contract v1.0.0, everyrsr-template-repocontractile among them (#1058). That is the "interface panel" defect: the panel exists (the verdict grid), nothing feeds it from the canon.Determinations (owner-directed, 2026-10-19)
