Summary

Completes the remaining proof-verification obligations following PR #132 (and superseded PRs #130 / #129): runs just proof-check-all in .github/workflows/proof-ci.yml, discharges XP-1's PROOF-POLICY §2 Rocq and core Lean 4 recheck legs, promotes XP-1 from Grade 3 to Grade 2i (AGDA-VERIFIED / COQ-CHECKED / LEAN-CHECKED / RECONCILED) with pinned CI receipts (8bdfd5a69a6bc34dcf1faa19ad617aaea0edd158, run 41539844452), hardens the proof audit/kernel scripts against PR #132's post-merge review edge cases, and closes #57.

Note on #57's legacy template paths (ApiTypes.lean, TypeSafety.v, idris2): Single-project RSR template scaffold proofs were removed on 2026-06-19 per .machine_readable/bot_directives/placement.a2ml and docs/decisions/D-2026-11-01-policy-reconciliation.adoc because nextgen-typing is a coordination repository that permits cross-project proofs only. .github/workflows/proof-ci.yml now executes just proof-check-all directly (proof-enrolment, proof-ledger-check, proof-check-idris2, proof-check-lean4, proof-check-agda, proof-check-coq, proof-scan-dangerous) across all enrolled cross-project proofs (EchoTyping.agda, Verification.agda, EchoTyping.v, EchoTyping.lean).

Changes

  • XP-1 Rocq & Core Lean 4 Recheck Witnesses (PROOF-POLICY §2, Grade 2i):
    • verification/proofs/coq/EchoTyping.v (gated in verification/proofs/coq/MANIFEST): Coq 8.18 Init.Prelude formalisation over Type-valued sigT and prod plus explicit CIC convoy matching (zero JMeq_eq / Streicher's K), proving tp_echo_1, tp_echo_2, tp_echo_3, affine_typing_proof_irrelevant, and subsume_coherent (Closed under the global context under coqchk -silent -o and Print Assumptions).
    • verification/proofs/lean4/EchoTyping.lean (gated in verification/proofs/lean4/MANIFEST): Core Lean 4.15.0 Init-only formalisation (zero Mathlib, zero axioms), proving EchoTyping.tp_echo_1..3 over Type-valued PSigma/PProd plus Type-valued Martin-Löf Path companions EchoTyping.tp_echo_1_path..3_path (Sigma + Prod + Empty).
    • Enrolled both files in .machine_readable/bot_directives/placement.a2ml and scripts/check-coordination-boundary.sh; updated verification/proofs/LEDGER.json, PROOF-STATUS.adoc, verification/proofs/README.adoc, and docs/proof-debt.md.
  • Proof CI & Toolchain Integrity (.github/workflows/proof-ci.yml):
    • Switched the main CI sweep to just proof-check-all (running proof-enrolment, proof-ledger-check, proof-check-idris2, proof-check-lean4, proof-check-agda, proof-check-coq, and proof-scan-dangerous).
    • Pinned and verified LEAN_LINUX_SHA256 (af71a2569a9f68337de2434829b3008cd8e32c436e9cb6bd8c84a2c2ba3585c9) via sha256sum -c prior to archive extraction.
  • Audit & Kernel Gate Hardening:
    • scripts/proof-scan-dangerous.sh: Added nested block-comment depth tracking and --strip-comments <file>.
    • scripts/check-proofs.sh: Bound Lean legs[].declarations to declarations owned by the leg's claimed .lean modules via both comment-stripped module scan and Lean.Environment.getModuleIdxFor? kernel origin query; switched Coq local Axiom verification to comment-stripped source.
    • scripts/check-proof-ledger.sh: Enforced non-blank theorem IDs, JSON container shapes, non-empty .history, engineering -> idris2 and theory -> agda .source.prover rules, comment-stripped Agda signature/anchor and scan_declared_axioms checks, and .waiver.tool <-> leg .prover binding.
    • scripts/check-proof-enrolment.sh: Fail closed (exit 1) on unwritable --receipt.
    • .machine_readable/integrations/verisimdb.a2ml: Documented verisimdb-data/scans/ top-level index vs scans/octads/ layout.

Testing

  • bash scripts/check-coordination-boundary.sh — PASS
  • bash scripts/check-proof-enrolment.sh --static-only — PASS (4 proof sources enrolled across Agda, Rocq, Lean 4)
  • bash scripts/proof-scan-dangerous.sh — PASS (4 proof sources clean, nested-comment-aware)
  • bash scripts/check-proof-ledger.sh — PASS (1 theorem, Grade 2i, 2 proven recheck legs, 0 policy gaps)
  • bash tests/proofs/run-ledger-controls.sh — PASS (63/63 ledger-form expectations held, 0 violations)
  • GitHub Actions Proof CI (just proof-check-all + tests/proofs/run-controls.sh on Ubuntu 24.04 with Agda 2.8.0, Coq 8.18.0, Lean 4.15.0) — PASS (63 ledger + 18 kernel expectations held, 0 violations; EchoTyping.agda, Verification.agda, EchoTyping.v, EchoTyping.lean all verified axiom-free)

Screenshots

Not applicable — formal verification witnesses, CI workflow, proof-gate scripts, and documentation only (no UI surface).

RSR Quality Checklist

  • SPDX-License-Identifier headers present on all new and modified files
  • Coordination boundary preserved (scripts/check-coordination-boundary.sh passes; cross-project proofs only)
  • Zero dangerous patterns / escape hatches (Admitted, admit, Axiom, sorry, postulate, believe_me, Obj.magic)
  • Bidirectional §7 controls added and passing (63 ledger controls + 18 kernel controls)
  • Machine-readable ledger (verification/proofs/LEDGER.json) and PROOF-STATUS.adoc synchronised with pinned CI receipts

import/relate **two or more** constituent repos. The one current example is
  `verification/proofs/agda/EchoTyping.agda`, which relates the `echo-types`

## Proofs and verification

It decides *where* a proof lives: theory → **Agda**, rechecked in **Rocq and
Lean** (§2, with the canonical invocation in §2.1); engineering/ABI → **Idris2**;
Rust → Creusot, Ada → SPARK. A gate that enforces it must be verified **both
ways** (§7): it passes conforming input *and* fails a planted violation.

Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • XP-1 now has completed Rocq and Lean 4 rechecks alongside its Agda proof, and is recorded as Grade 2i.
    • Proof status records now include the completed checks and updated verification evidence.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Proof validation handles commented-out declarations and malformed evidence more reliably, and checks that proof sources match their declared systems.
    • Lean verification now checks supporting files and confirms where declarations originate.
    • Receipt generation reports failures if a receipt cannot be created or saved.
  • Tests
    • Expanded coverage for invalid proof evidence, ledger changes, malformed entries and receipt-writing failures.

XP-1 now has gated Rocq and Lean 4 recheck witnesses, and its ledger records Grade 2i. Proof scanning, ledger validation, Lean declaration-origin checks, CI reporting, and related controls are updated. The VeriSimDB feed configuration adds a destination for scan-index files.

Changes: XP-1 proof verification

Layer / File(s) Summary
Rocq and Lean witness models
verification/proofs/coq/EchoTyping.v, verification/proofs/lean4/EchoTyping.lean
Both files define echo fibres, affine weakening, and refinement erasure results. Lean also adds Type-valued path results.
Recheck records and status
verification/proofs/*/MANIFEST, verification/proofs/LEDGER.json, PROOF-STATUS.adoc, verification/proofs/README.adoc, docs/proof-debt.md, .machine_readable/bot_directives/placement.a2ml, scripts/check-coordination-boundary.sh
The manifests and ledger record the Rocq and Lean 4 legs as proven and gated, and XP-1 as Grade 2i. Status material describes the checks and scope limits.
Proof scanning and verification
scripts/proof-scan-dangerous.sh, scripts/check-proof-ledger.sh, scripts/check-proofs.sh
The scripts add comment-stripped validation, nested-comment support, ledger and prover checks, and Lean declaration ownership and module-origin verification.
CI reporting and proof controls
.github/workflows/proof-ci.yml, scripts/check-proof-enrolment.sh, tests/proofs/*
The workflow runs the full proof suite, checks gated proven legs, verifies the Lean archive digest, and reports receipts. Receipt-write failures now stop enrolment. Tests add or update controls for proof ownership, ledger validation, comment handling, and receipt failures.

VeriSimDB scan destinations

Layer / File(s) Summary
Scan-index destination
.machine_readable/integrations/verisimdb.a2ml
The configuration retains the octad destination and adds a separate destination for top-level scan-index files.

Explanation

The description includes Summary, Changes, Testing, Screenshots, and an RSR Quality Checklist. It explains the objectives, implementation, validation results, and issue closure. Some template checklist items and the exact Required/As Applicable headings are not included, but the description is otherwise complete.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 100.00% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 5 functions across 7 files. (5 skipped: 5 unsupported.)

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #57 requires CI coverage for verification/proofs/idris2/**, Agda with the stated stdlib and echo-types setup, Lean 4 ApiTypes.lean, and Coq TypeSafety.v. The workflow now invokes just proof-check-all and registers echo-types, but the reviewed tree contains no Idris2 proof directory, ApiTypes.lean, or TypeSafety.v. It checks replacement EchoTyping.lean and EchoTyping.v witnesses instead. The workflow also uses actions/checkout@v7.0.1, not a full commit SHA as requested for setup actions.

Resolution

Add CI checks for the issue's Idris2, ApiTypes.lean, and TypeSafety.v targets, and retain the required Agda/stdlib/echo-types setup. SHA-pin the applicable GitHub Actions, including checkout, to full commit SHAs. If repository policy intentionally replaces these targets, update the active linked issue before relying on that different scope.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The new Rocq and Lean 4 EchoTyping formalisation, XP-1 Grade 2i promotion, ledger and status promotion, and the VeriSimDB layout documentation are not required to add CI for the targets listed in issue #57. The workflow, proof-gate hardening, and related CI tests have a direct connection to the issue and are in scope.

Resolution

Remove the unrelated witness and Grade 2i promotion changes from this pull request, including their ledger and status updates, or link them to an active coding requirement that requires them. Remove the unrelated VeriSimDB documentation change.

P2 Badge Update the deviation when promoting the grade

Promoting this field to 2i leaves .grade_deviation later in the same theorem explicitly stating that “the grade therefore stays 3” because the proof “has not been translated to an independent foundational system.” Any consumer reading the complete ledger now receives mutually exclusive grade claims, and the ledger checker only verifies that this text is nonempty. Update or remove that stale conclusion as part of the promotion.

P2 Badge Enforce the Idris2 source requirement for engineering theorems

For an engineering theorem whose source prover is rocq or lean4, the theory-only Agda check does not run, this case accepts the prover, and the following flag validation checks neither Agda safety flags nor Idris2 %default total. Such a ledger can therefore pass with an engineering source in the wrong prover despite the repository's stated §1 rule that engineering proofs use Idris2. Validate the source prover against the theorem kind rather than only checking membership in this general list.

P2 Badge Reconcile the full status page with the Grade 2i summary

The updated summary says both recheck legs are proven, but later normative sections of this same page still say both legs are open and no witnesses or axiom lists exist (for example, lines 136–155, 345–346, and 434–438), and still describe the current claim as Grade 3. The ledger gate parses only this summary row, so it passes without detecting those contradictions and readers following the status page receive the opposite verification state. Update the remaining current-state and runbook sections when changing this row; historical timeline entries can remain historical.

Update the stale comments for the proven recheck legs.

This PR records both XP-1 recheck legs as proven. Line 353 still says both legs are open and "compile zero modules". Lines 366-367 still say "With no proven legs (today)". Both statements are now false. A reader who relies on them will misread the gate.

Rewrite them to describe the current state. For example: "XP-1 declares Rocq and Lean 4, both proven; each must compile its gated manifest modules."

610-612: Functional Correctness

The review's central premise is contradicted. check-proof-ledger.sh accepts --scan-file, and its scan path runs proof-scan-dangerous.sh. Control 61 therefore reaches the scanner that handles nested comments. The proposed change to call the scanner directly is not required to exercise that path. The probe also shows the scanner detects a postulate after a nested comment.

Avoid piping cached source into grep -q under pipefail.

At scripts/check-proof-ledger.sh:564-565, a large cached source can cause printf to receive SIGPIPE when grep -qE finds an early anchor. pipefail then makes the pipeline fail, so hit=1 is skipped and the gate can report a valid statement anchor as missing.

Suggested fix
- printf '%s\n' "${stripped_src_cache[$f]}" \
-          | grep -qE "^[[:space:]]*${a//./\\.}[[:space:]]*:" && hit=1
+        grep -qE "^[[:space:]]*${a//./\\.}[[:space:]]*:" <<<"${stripped_src_cache[$f]}" && hit=1

The scanner pipelines at scripts/check-proof-ledger.sh:537 and scripts/check-proofs.sh:367-368,812-813 do not need this change because proof-scan-dangerous.sh --strip-comments exits with status 0 after invoking strip_comments.

Review comment at @scripts/check-proof-ledger.sh at line 537:
Keep the proof-scan-dangerous.sh pipeline unchanged; it exits successfully after
stripping comments. Update the cached-source anchor check in
check-proof-ledger.sh to search the cached text without piping it into grep -q,
so pipefail cannot turn an early match into a failed check.

Update the instructions that still treat Grade 2i as pending.

The current-state paragraph says XP-1 is Grade 2i. The same README says the Rocq and Lean manifests explain an empty state, then calls Grade 2i “the next rung” and directs readers to the runbook for reaching it. Update those instructions so contributors do not repeat completed enrolment work. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Update the contributor guidance around XP-1 and Grade 2i so it reflects the
completed verification status stated in the current-state paragraph; remove or
revise the claims that the Rocq and Lean manifests represent an empty state and
that Grade 2i is the next rung to reach. Keep the manifest descriptions and
runbook directions consistent with the recorded Agda, Rocq, and Lean
verification.

Record the commit that CI checked in the XP-1 recheck entries.

Both XP-1 recheck entries (rocq and lean4) cite run 41539844452 and record commit 8bdfd5a69a6bc34dcf1faa19ad617aaea0edd158. The receipts from that run report b1f5035684e826df74e0331261835e7c12a118a9. That commit is the pull request merge commit, and 8bdfd5a is its parent (the PR head).

The two commits share the same tree (cdfd252), so the verified content is identical. The commit field nonetheless names a different commit from the one the receipt records. The ledger describes this field as the exact commit of the verification receipt.

Record the receipt's commit in both ci-receipt entries. Keep 8bdfd5a as a separate PR-head reference if the ledger needs it. Update the matching evidence strings and the status text that cite run 41539844452 with 8bdfd5a so they agree with the receipts.

Suggested fix

Apply the same change to the second ci-receipt entry (around line 287). Update the related evidence and grade_deviation text to match.
