Summary

  • Chapter 01 (Getting started) of the guide in Brazilian Portuguese, the first of the pt-BR chapters, as discussed in International translations: who can help? #141. The other chapters still show in English and will follow in their own pull requests.
  • The screenshots stay English for now; a pt-BR set can come once all chapters are translated.

Changes outside the guide

tests/unit/guideAllLanguages.test.ts listed the guide languages by hand and read chapter 14 only from each language's own folder. TRANSLATING.md allows a language to start with a few chapters, so the test now includes pt-br and checks the AI chapter each language actually builds (effectiveChapters), which is the English one until it is translated.

apps/web/src/lib/guideLinks.ts gets the pt-br anchor for whatsNew, so the what's-new help opens the translated heading instead of the top of the chapter. A test checks every question mark against the pt-br chapters translated so far, so the next chapters are covered as they come in.

Testing

  • npm run typecheck
  • npm test
  • npm run guide
  • Manually tested the affected workflow

Notes

TRANSLATING.md allows a language to translate only some chapters,
with the rest built from English. The test read only the language's
own folder, so a guide without its own chapter 14 failed. It now
checks the chapters the build uses, and the language list includes
pt-br.
Match the interface: the article is dropped only where layerling is
the subject ("layerling é um programa").

@lmagalhaes thank you for the first pt-BR chapter. I went through it: the structure matches the English chapter section by section, and the test change makes sense. I have merged it here, so it goes out with the next release. The other chapters can follow in their own pull requests, as you planned.

The what's-new help button fell back to the English anchor, which the
translated chapter does not have, so it opened the top of the page.
The test checks every question mark against the pt-BR chapters
translated so far, so the next chapters are covered too.

@henmedia thank you! One thing: after your review I pushed one more commit (491d9ca). With chapter 01 translated, the what's-new help still pointed at the English anchor and opened the top of the page, so it adds the pt-br id to GUIDE_SECTIONS.whatsNew and a test that checks the help links against the pt-BR chapters translated so far. Happy to send it as its own PR if that's easier now that you've merged the chapter.

Small question too: TRANSLATING.md mentions GUIDE_SECTIONS only for a language that has translated and renamed every chapter. Should it say a partly translated guide needs its anchors too? Spanish, Russian, Czech and Hungarian already do it that way, and a fair number of help links in other languages (mostly pl, fr and da) land on the top of a chapter for the same reason. Happy to send a small docs PR, or leave it if you'd rather handle it differently.

@lmagalhaes Thank you, good catch. I took the extra commit (491d9ca) in, so you do not need a separate pull request. It comes with the next version. And yes, please send the small docs PR: TRANSLATING.md should say that a partly translated guide needs its anchors in GUIDE_SECTIONS too, as Spanish, Russian, Czech and Hungarian already do it.

@lmagalhaes the guide chapter and the what's-new help fix are out in 1.100.0, thank you.

Closing this one: the change is in main and out in a release, so there is nothing left to merge here. Thank you again.
