Artist pages: a public page for each portrait artist - #65
Artist pages: a public page for each portrait artist, linked from the portrait credit. Stacked on #64; retargets to integration once that merges.
Replaces the claude/artist-profile-pages branch, rebuilt the same way (codeGlaze authorship, no agent trailers). All design screenshots were dropped from history; their capture scripts remain and write to ignored folders.
What it does
/artists and /artists/: name, piece count, three small watermarked example portraits (drawn by the server from the silhouettes or licensed art, marked as such), and the artist's links.
Artists control their page on My Account: on/off, plus examples, links and piece count. A hidden page redirects (302) to /artists; the credit stays, as the licence requires.
Credit-change emails: the first change goes out at once, later ones in a 10-minute batch that cannot be extended. Saves capped at 60 an hour.
Links: https only, from any source; rel="noopener" (artists see this site in their analytics); international domains shown encoded; Referrer-Policy: strict-origin-when-cross-origin site-wide.
Site-wide: tick boxes redesigned (keyboard and screen-reader support, focus ring, 4.6:1 contrast); all seven header tabs fit a 320px phone.
Checked
lein test 1042, 0 failures; cljs 779, 0 failures; artist pages 46/46; starting equipment 8/8; browser suite 38/40 before the two fixes now on the portrait branch.
Every fix lists its fail state in its commit message.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added public artist profiles and an artist directory, with portrait examples, artist links, optional piece counts, and controls for what appears on each page.
Added artist-profile links to portrait credits and the character builder.
Artist credit changes now trigger an email immediately; changes made in the following ten minutes are grouped into one email. Frequent saves are rate-limited.
Portrait exports preserve artwork attribution, and artist examples include watermarks.
Improved checkbox accessibility with descriptive labels and keyboard support.
Bug Fixes
Improved mobile header and menu layout, and prevented unavailable spell preparations from being selected.
Portrait drafts are preserved during character updates.
Linked sites receive less referrer information.
Documentation
Added guides and visual comparisons for artist pages, portraits, and interface styling.
A public page per portrait artist at /artists/<slug>: their name, the
pieces they drew, a few portraits composed from those pieces, and the
links they listed. The credit's name keeps linking where the artist
chose; the profile is reached by a second, quieter link at the foot of
the drawer credit.
A showcase page per portrait artist: their name on the credit's broken
rule, the links they listed, three portraits composed from their pieces,
and every piece they drew, grouped most-of-the-picture first. /artists
lists everyone with a profile.
The pure parts live in artist-profile (cljc) so the server's share tags
and og image agree with the page: slug lookup, the listed links (http(s)
only, so an email address cannot reach the page), deterministic example
portraits seeded from the slug, and where the credit's secondary link
goes. The registry entry gains :artist/slug, which deployment overrides
cannot move.
The drawer credit gains a quiet 'About the artist' line at its foot,
mirroring the ART BY label. The name still links wherever the artist
chose.
Not yet run: the unit tests, route tests and the browser probe.
:artist/profile? false removes the page entirely: the address and its
preview image 404 like a slug nobody has, the artist drops out of
/artists, and the credit loses its 'About the artist' line. The
credit's name still links where the artist chose.
It is honoured through set-artist-overrides!, beside the other credit
fields, so the artist-account work can flip it from a setting without
touching the registry. The account and its toggle are not built here.
Browser probe passes 51/51 against lein e2e-server in both themes and
at phone width, including the drawer credit's new profile link. Adds it
to the probe baseline, fixes the probe's og:image match and moves the
mouse off the credit before judging its resting colour. Screenshots of
every state, placeholder silhouettes only. PLAN.md gains the off switch,
what was verified, and the open decisions.
The built page, a recommended Carrd-style version with limits, and the
everything version, plus the credit link, cropped tiles, pinned
showcases and the off switch. Placeholder busts and a placeholder
artist throughout; nothing invents accounts for Fusspot.
capture-cards.js loads the real /artists/fusspot page and injects each
layout at screenshot time, as the portrait-credit exploration did, so
nothing in the source changes. The examples are shrunk to 240x300,
carry a tiled watermark and are saved as quality-60 JPEGs, to show what
a visitor or scraper would actually get. Placeholder silhouettes only.
Fifteen candidates for an artist's own-site link, from game-icons.net,
Lucide, Tabler and Phosphor, each swapped into the drawer credit and the
profile card's featured link at capture time and shot in both themes at
2x. Plus two full link lists, one per icon family. No source changes.
Seven icons (current globe, browser window, app window, house, compass,
sparkle, quill and ink) in five colours, plus a white-on-tile badge for
three of them, each swapped into the drawer credit beside the real
Twitch mark at capture time. Both themes, 2x. No source changes.
Browser window, house, compass and sparkle, each in coral and teal, in
the drawer credit and on the profile card, both themes. Injected at
capture time; no source changes.
Five colours, each a dark-theme and light-theme pair at 4.3:1 or better
on its own ground, including the site's warning-yellow. A picker with
split swatches drawn inside the running site, and every icon and pair in
the real credit, both themes. Injected at capture time; no source
changes.
Each light-theme half is roughly the opposite of its dark half, as the
site pairs amber with slate blue: gold/slate, ember/deep teal,
tide/rust, bloom/forest, moss/plum. All at 5:1 or better on their own
ground. The comparison page switches between this set and the deepened
one. capture-swatches.js takes PAIRS_JSON and SELECTED_JSON to capture
another set.
Five colours, then a choice of how the colour looks in the light theme:
a deeper shade of itself or a paired colour. Covers both earlier sets
without ten near-duplicate swatches, since the two sets share their
dark halves. Drawn inside the running site; no source changes.
Palette with roles, surfaces, the light theme, type, spacing, radius,
focus and buttons, each fact re-read from core.clj rather than taken
from the raw inventory, which is kept alongside. Records rules for new
work (look first, extend not copy, no inline styles, name colours, pair
them per theme, keep focus visible) and six open decisions, including
two found while writing it: Open Sans is loaded at 400 only, so all
600/700 UI text is faux bold, and a global outline:0 removes keyboard
focus everywhere. Proposes one button base with roles in place of the
four near-copies that exist.
Captured from the running site: in Chromium the requested bold does not
render at all (regular weight, not faux bold), and loading 600/700 fixes
it. Also found that <button> elements, .form-button included, render in
Arial because nothing makes them inherit the site font. And that the
sandbox browser could not load Google Fonts at all, so earlier captures
show a fallback sans; the capture script fetches fonts on the Node side
with the proxy CA bundle, keeping verification on.
Tabs at 400/500/600/700 and the page title at 400/600/700, both themes,
from the running site with the weights loaded at capture time. Both are
marked bold in code but have always rendered at 400 in Chrome, so 400
is what people know. No source changes.
Chosen by the owner from the pair captured together in context, next to
today's 400/400 and a 700/600 variant, both themes. The tabs held up at
700 alone, but beside the title the pair balanced only at 500/600, so the
guide notes that weights here are judged as a pair.
The owner did not pick 500 for the tabs; they said the tabs look fine at
700 while the title only looks right at 600. Record that, and the reason
the two behave differently: size and case.
Builder, My Content, Spells and Monsters from the running branch, both
themes. Shows the side effects left for the owner: everything marked
bold is now visibly bold, and the My Content header tab wraps at 1280px.
…nd it
The owner found three elements too plump after bold loaded: the builder's
panel heading, its intro sentence, and My Content's import heading. A
survey of every bold element on four pages shows the pattern: big
mixed-case headings at 700 and a sentence at 700, while small capitals at
700 read well. Proposed rule, captured as a third state: 700 small
capitals, 600 headings and names, 400 sentences.
Four pages before, first pass and now; the yellow buttons in Arial Bold,
Open Sans 600, 700, and 700 with dark text; and five options for the My
Content header tab wrap. Both themes.
Dark text (#15202e) on every amber button across four pages, dark
theme, applied at capture time and not built. And the room each header
option leaves for MY CONTENT: tabs are a fixed 110px, so screen width
does not matter; letter spacing -2% fits with 0.3px spare, -4% with
3.1px. The 13px option never applied (.f-s-14 is !important).
Today's white, white with a faint dark shadow, white on a deeper amber,
both, and dark text, at 2x from the running branch. Scored with APCA,
which matches the owner's read that dark text is swallowed by the bright
amber better than the WCAG 2 ratio did.
…shadow
Dark text alone, with a 1px light edge below, with a soft light glow, and
with a stronger edge, next to white with a dark shadow. 2x, dark theme.
The survey finds every element with text on an amber surface across 11
pages in both themes: .roll-button, .form-button, .mc-btn and the active
header tab. Captures show the lift as built in each state and the header
tab with and without it.
… the heal is integration's
Two CodeRabbit findings on #65:
- With no preparations left, the unticked prepared-spell box was greyed out
but its click still prepared the spell (also on integration). The box is now
prepared-spell-box: disabled, and its click does nothing, when no
preparation remains or the spell is always prepared.
- autosave_fx's heal re-dispatch differed from integration's only through an
old merge resolution here; it is integration's again, so the heal's
write-back is not this PR's change.
…trait draft
bd0e94a took integration's autosave_fx, which re-dispatches :set-character on a
heal; on integration that drops the portrait draft, which this branch's
events-test the-first-list-heals-a-character-that-loaded-before-it pins against
(it failed). This branch's version is the fix, not an older copy.
With views.cljs's prepared-spell-box as before bd0e94a (box enabled, click dispatches):
Ran 740 tests containing 3189 assertions; 3 failures, 0 errors
FAIL in (a-spell-cannot-be-prepared-past-the-limit) components_checkbox_test.cljs:67 (box not disabled)
FAIL in (a-spell-cannot-be-prepared-past-the-limit) components_checkbox_test.cljs:69 (click dispatched)
FAIL in (a-spell-cannot-be-prepared-past-the-limit) components_checkbox_test.cljs:73
With the fix: Ran 740 tests containing 3189 assertions; 0 failures, 0 errors
… open
The phone loop passed with no menus at all. It now checks the phone found as many
flyout menus as the desktop pass, and the comment says each menu is opened by
focusing its tab, not by a tap.
With the phone pages rendering no flyouts (a MutationObserver removing them):
FAIL iPhone SE (320px): the header has the desktop's 7 menus — 0 menus
FAIL iPhone 13 (390px): the header has the desktop's 7 menus — 0 menus
36/38 checks passed
As committed: 52/52 checks passed
… not rendered once per start
PLAN.md and the mockup now say a switched-off page redirects to /artists, the example
cache is bounded with failures retried after a minute, and give the current test and
probe counts. The capture tool signs in on the server it captures (ORCPUB_BASE).
Outside-diff item (routes.clj, artist-credit-body): fixed in 4784ea7. :current now keeps the page switches in force, so My Account shows them. Test: the-account-route-carries-the-switches-in-force (43399c8).

…rtists bug
The budget test printed bundle 870 KB and 10 failures after the integration merge. Fixes:
- bundle: hard ceiling 900 KB compressed; size and headroom print on every run.
- allowances: my account (/user twice), my content (items); a page's own entry now sets the
limit before the shell's.
- portrait-artists: allowed as a known bug naming #65, removed when its fix lands.
Before: FAIL character builder (signed out|in) ... [2x image GET /image/orcpub-logo.svg];
FAIL my account (signed in) ... [2x xhr GET /user]. After: E2E RESULT PASS checks=116 failed=0.
Each test was run against the pre-fix source (the merge base's copy of the file) and failed:
- the pending batch keeps the first save's `before`: expected {:artist/name "A"}, actual {:artist/name "B"}
- the throttle message: "Try again in 1 minutes." did not match "in 1 minute."
- credit-notices starts before the server: these are not started before :pedestal: (:credit-notices);
the old order check could not see this, so it now checks every component is a dependency of :pedestal
- JPEG fill bytes: read-mark returned nil for FF FF padding before a COM marker (2 failures)
- an unencodable international host: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: The label in the input is too long
from ascii-url, web-url? and listed-links (JVM only: the browser's URL parser accepts it)
Document the page switches in the honoured PORTRAIT_ARTISTS keys.

An operator who relies on line 58 can miss the switches that turn off an artist's page or part of it.
