Review comments at @src/__tests__/stream-recovery.test.js:
- Line 251: Update the recovery test around the
START_PERIODIC_PLEX_TIMELINE_UPDATE assertion to verify externally observable
behavior: trigger the periodic action using a controlled timer and assert that a
subsequent timeline report is sent before resolving subtitles. Do not rely only
on context.dispatch recording the action request.
- Around line 233-235: Update the stream recovery test around HANDLE_ERROR to
use a controllably settled subtitle promise: retain its rejection function,
await recovery, then reject the promise. Verify that the subtitle-failure
diagnostic appears and LOAD_PLAYER_SRC is not called again after recovery.
Review comments at @src/__tests__/subtitle-startup-lifecycle.test.js:
- Around line 70-71: Update the startup lifecycle test to assert that the mocked
insertElementBeforeVideo call receives the current renderer’s libjassSubsWrapper
exactly once, in addition to the existing renderer assertions.
Review comments at @src/store/modules/slplayer/actions.js:
- Line 305: Update the catch handler for CHANGE_SUBTITLES to check that the
rejection value is non-null before reading its name. Preserve the AbortError and
sourceRevision suppression behavior, while allowing null or undefined rejections
to reach the subtitle warning path.
Review comments at @src/store/modules/slplayer/subtitleActions.js:
- Line 216: Move the initial ensureSource() ownership check in the subtitle
startup flow inside the existing cancellation handling so an AbortError is
treated as a no-op, while keeping the check before DESTROY_ASS.

Summary
A pending subtitle request can leave a replacement video playing while the room still reports buffering at the saved offset. New participants then start at that stale position. During a play-queue transition, the same wait also prevents periodic playback reporting from restarting.
Verification
npm run test:ci: 171 Node tests and 584 frontend tests passed.npm run test:node: 171 passed again after updating the diagnostic allowlist.npm run lint: passed.npm run build: passed. The regression is reproduced locally. Production logs show video progressing without recovery completion and reporting stopping after a media transition, but do not identify the specific pending subtitle operation. This patch has not been deployed or verified against that live client session.
