Summary

First of two stacked PRs for self-benchmarked EAGLE3 whole-round FPM data.

 • Add Rust-validated execution identity: pinned target/draft revisions, draft model, method, draft depth and native CUDA timing scope.
 • Carry identity through existing execution-selector columns, preserving absent-field AR serialization and the EngineSpec/Op wire layout.
 • Accept schema-7 native-CUDA single observations or actual upper-median observations retaining their own coordinates. Reject scheduler-wall relabeling, mismatched policies and fabricated cached-KV state.
 • Keep execution disabled in this identity-only PR; feat: consume measured SD rounds in profile-backed replay #477 enables the qualified consumer. Reject SD-selected low-level specs before database loading, including nested operations.

Stack and review focus

Updated on October 19 against main c9e7363bf5983b980fe6622f7b064ee7adff5f5d, including merged #382. Current head: b7abbd15e9a4a65d6c7d6a2a79ba374f17f67263.

Review order: #476 → #477. This is measured execution identity/data validation, not another implementation of #382's analytical speculative cost graphs.

The refresh preserves main's full-grid median policy alongside the distinct SD native-CUDA policy. It also fixes the two existing review findings: Python now rejects leading/trailing whitespace and all Unicode control characters in draft_model, matching Rust; the identity-only guard now traverses Dsv41Stage.children.

Review fixes (October 19)

 • Close the empty-spec EngineHandle.for_database() bypass: one recursive SD selector check now protects construction and both ad-hoc empirical/SOL evaluation boundaries, including every generic wrapper/child position.
 • Reject an explicitly selected speculative deployment before ordinary collector admission. SD deployments belonging to unselected systems, roles, versions or topologies do not block valid AR collection.
 • Preserve and revalidate the earlier Python/Rust draft_model whitespace/control parity and Dsv41Stage.children fixes. No performance rows, collection schema, or cost formulas are changed.

Validation

 • Fresh exact-head Rust 1.96.1 embed-python native: 1,381 focused tests passed, including public empty-handle regressions, AR controls and collector boundaries.
 • Rust performance-model tests: 996 passed, one pre-existing real-artifact test ignored. Both frozen-golden parity suites passed 390 tests, without refreshing goldens.
 • A redundant all-target release/embed linking run was stopped; it is not claimed as full-workspace coverage for this FPM branch. The exact-head native, focused Rust/Python suites and unchanged-golden suites above all completed.
 • Independent exact-native validation: 32 recursive entry-point/AR cases and 72 Python/Rust C0/C1/trim parity cases passed, plus 3 extra collector selection probes.
 • The old native reproduced the ad-hoc bypass; selected SD collection reached admission before the fix. Corresponding current-native/source regressions pass.
 • Source copyright, packaged legal files, documentation links/tests, strict CODEOWNERS coverage, generated artifact byte parity, Rust formatting, CI-scoped Ruff and whitespace checks passed. Fake-identity Git test fixtures used a process-local signing override only; every published commit remains GPG-signed and DCO-certified.
 • Independent exact-head review found no remaining actionable finding. Hosted CI is tracked on the new head; historical checks do not qualify it. No goldens or performance data were rewritten.

Boundaries

Initial identity scope is vLLM EAGLE3, 1–5 draft tokens, pure TP with DP1/PP1/CP1. This PR does not enable SD execution, expand guided collection, change performance data or claim serving accuracy. No GPU allocation was made.

Linked repositories findings

ai-dynamo/dynamo

 • No references to execution_profile, speculative_round, FpmExecution*, or model_step_cuda were found in the runtime/docs search. Dynamo’s documented ForwardPassMetrics remains a version-1 scheduler telemetry structure. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]
 • Dynamo self-benchmark artifacts use schema version 2 and are documented as separate from live FPM traces, so the PR’s schema-7 native-CUDA parquet contract has no observed Dynamo consumer. docs/fern/pages/reference/observability/forward-pass-metrics-traces.mdx:158,249 [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]

ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator

 • The frozen Rust loader requires FPM schema version 6 and measurement policy dynamo_native_single_sample_v1; schema-7/native-CUDA artifacts from this PR will be rejected by this loader. aic-core/rust/aiconfigurator-core/src/perf_database/fpm_forward.rs:51-57,366-389 [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::]
 • Its FPM cell identity remains a fixed 15-column contract, mirrored by the Python operation implementation. The new execution selector/profile is not part of that identity. aic-core/rust/aiconfigurator-core/src/perf_database/fpm_forward.rs:84-110; aic-core/src/aiconfigurator_core/sdk/operations/fpm_forward.py:25-62,126-145 [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::]
 • No references to the new speculative execution symbols were found, confirming this repository is a frozen compatibility reference rather than a direct consumer. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::]
🔇 Additional comments: 1
crates/core/src/perfmodel/engine/runtime.rs: 1

402-402: 🎯 Functional Correctness

The concern is refuted. Glm53AttentionOp::query validates the operation before querying measured children, and validate_measured("attention", ...) accepts only Gemm, Kda, and Elementwise. An FpmForward child therefore cannot reach child.query; sparse MLA also rejects any measured children.

📝 Summary

Risk: Medium. Three areas need human attention:

 1. Canonical selector validation and compatibility with legacy identities.
 2. Schema-7 native-CUDA provenance, timing policy, reductions, and coordinate preservation.
 3. Identity-only enforcement across nested execution operations.

Changed behavior and contracts

 • Adds Rust-validated speculative-round FPM identities for vLLM EAGLE3.
 • The identity includes target and draft revisions, draft model, draft-token count, method, and timing scope.
 • Canonical selectors use the speculative_round_v1: prefix.
 • Absent profiles preserve existing AR serialization.
 • Speculative profiles remain identity-only. FPM execution and collection reject them.
 • The loader accepts only supported schema-7 native-CUDA observations with matching sidecar and row policies.
 • Runtime validation rejects speculative-round selectors, including nested operations.
 • Python and Rust validation enforce revision, model-name, topology, and draft-token constraints.

Evidence

The author reports:

 • 1,010 focused tests passed.
 • 996 Rust performance-model tests passed, with one existing real-artifact test ignored.
 • Both frozen-golden parity suites passed with 390 tests each.
 • An independent Python/native boundary matrix passed 218 cases.
 • Formatting, lint, legal, documentation-link, CODEOWNERS, generated-artifact, and whitespace checks passed.
 • The initial embedded-Python invocation needed the existing task-local CPython prefix. The unchanged binary then passed.
 • No GPU allocation was made.

No current review findings were supplied. Review severity counts are unavailable.

Merge readiness

Technical evidence is broad, but the results are author-reported. Hosted CI on the new SHA remains unevaluated. The first embedded-Python environment issue also requires CI confirmation. These gaps prevent a merge-readiness conclusion.

The change adds canonical speculative-round execution identities to FPM profiles, validates native-CUDA measurement rows against those identities, and rejects execution use of identity-only speculative profiles.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description clearly explains the problem, behavior changes, scope, review focus, compatibility boundaries, and validation results. It does not use every template heading and omits explicit entries for modeling/data provenance, tracking, risk level, and some evidence fields, but the required context is mostly present.

Full details: Cross-Layer Contract

Explanation

The cross-layer contract remains incomplete. The new FpmDeploymentProfile.execution_profile is defined in python/aisimulate/src/aisimulate_core/fpm_profile.py:164-288, but compile_engine does not reject it after deployment selection. Its direct path calls _direct_fpm_spec_json at python/aisimulate/src/aisimulate_core/sdk/engine.py:584-599; that function emits only deployment.match_identity() at lines 740-786 and omits the four-field execution selector. Its SOL validation still requires deployment.match_identity() + LEGACY_EXECUTION_IDENTITY at lines 670-679. Therefore the public compile path can build an AR-shaped EngineSpec from an identity-only speculative profile. The reviewed diff has no changes to sdk/engine.py. The added identity tests cover normalize_config and best_available, but no compile_engine direct or SOL case. The new public FpmSpeculativeExecutionProfile is also absent from unchanged compatibility exports python/aisimulate/src/aisimulate_core/sdk/fpm_profile.py:12-18 and python/aisimulate/src/aisimulate/fpm_profile.py:6-10; the unchanged compatibility test only checks the prior three profile types at python/aisimulate/tests/cross_package/test_import_contract.py:157-163.

Resolution

After deployment selection in compile_engine, reject any non-null deployment.execution_profile with the identity-only error before direct or SOL construction. Add compile_engine tests for nextn=0 on both direct and SOL paths. Re-export FpmSpeculativeExecutionProfile from aisimulate_core.sdk.fpm_profile and aisimulate.fpm_profile, then add it to the import, module-identity, and pickle compatibility contract tests.

Full details: Modeling And Data Evidence

Explanation

The PR changes native-CUDA FPM selection and measurement-data loading, but it still does not supply the required reproducible evidence. The diff adds no data artifact, golden output, or machine-readable benchmark summary. The Rust tests use synthetic fixtures with a hard-coded 7 ms latency and source count 20 (crates/core/src/perfmodel/perf_database/fpm_forward.rs:2041-2077). The Python fixture explicitly states that its resource metadata is synthetic and not silicon measurements (python/aisimulate/tests/unit/sdk/test_fpm_speculative_execution_identity.py:45-62). The tests check contract acceptance and rejection, but provide no before/after output comparison, independent oracle, held-out comparison, or anomaly-checked data summary. The documentation requires raw observations and selection provenance but does not provide them (docs/perf-model/methods/whole-forward.md:65-72).

Resolution

Add a committed, machine-readable native-CUDA data summary or reproducible artifact with source revisions, hardware and backend, collection protocol, raw observations, reduction counts, selected coordinates, latency provenance, and anomaly checks for missing, duplicate, non-finite, outlier, policy-mismatched, and fabricated-KV rows. Compare base and PR selection and latency outputs, explain every changed result, and report the reproducible command and results. An independent oracle or held-out comparison that reproduces the expected outputs is also acceptable.

Full details: Compatibility Boundaries

Explanation

The Python/Rust binding contract remains unsynchronized. The PR adds the native static method _normalize_fpm_execution_profile(model_revision, execution_profile_json) in crates/core/src/perfmodel/py.rs:2016-2032, and python/aisimulate/src/aisimulate_core/sdk/fpm_identity.py:16-23 calls it. The shipped python/aisimulate/src/aisimulate_core/_native.pyi:166-204 still omits this method, and the reviewed diff does not modify that stub. The wheel payload verifier requires _native.pyi at python/aisimulate/tools/verify_installed_package_layers.py:69-80. This new identity path therefore exposes an incomplete public typing/artifact contract.

Resolution

Add @staticmethod def _normalize_fpm_execution_profile(model_revision: str, execution_profile_json: str) -> str: ... to python/aisimulate/src/aisimulate_core/_native.pyi. Add a cross-package test that compares the shipped stub signature and annotations with the native method. Preserve the existing execution_identity() delegation to the Rust normalizer so parent-revision validation remains enforced.

Full details: Review Evidence

Explanation

The description reports relevant results and negative/boundary coverage, including invalid identities, unsupported profiles, nested selectors, policy mismatches, and fabricated state. It does not name executable commands. It does not explicitly classify evidence as local, fake-runner, parity, or production. It does not cite an inactive nested workflow as hosted CI evidence.

Resolution

Update the Validation section with the exact commands and results for the Rust, native FPM, Python, formatting, and policy checks. Label each result as local, fake-runner, parity, or production evidence. State clearly when hosted CI has not run. Do not describe inactive nested workflow runs as hosted CI evidence.

Linked repositories findings

ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator

 • The frozen FPM loader only accepts schema version 6 and measurement policy dynamo_native_single_sample_v1; the PR’s schema-v7 native-CUDA policy would be rejected by validate_sidecar. aic-core/rust/aiconfigurator-core/src/perf_database/fpm_forward.rs:51-57, 359-380 [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::]
 • Cell selection is hard-coded to exactly 15 identity columns and has no execution-profile/selector field. aic-core/rust/aiconfigurator-core/src/perf_database/fpm_forward.rs:84-110; the Python operation constructs the same fixed tuple. aic-core/src/aiconfigurator_core/sdk/operations/fpm_forward.py:35-62, 126-145 [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::]
 • Repository-wide searches found no references to execution_profile, speculative_round, FpmExecution*, or FPM_SPECULATIVE, so this frozen consumer does not yet consume the new identity API. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::]

ai-dynamo/dynamo

 • Dynamo’s live FPM consumer uses ForwardPassMetrics schema version 1 and skips unrecognized versions; the message contract has no execution-profile field. components/src/dynamo/common/forward_pass_metrics.py:28, 157-174 [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]
 • Dynamo documents native self-benchmark artifacts separately as schema version 2, while the PR adds schema-v7 native-CUDA parquet handling; no direct consumer of the new selector/profile names was found in repository-wide searches. docs/fern/pages/reference/observability/forward-pass-metrics-traces.mdx:158,249 [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]
 • Existing benchmark-point manifests accept only schema versions 1–3, indicating this new schema-v7 contract is not part of Dynamo’s existing benchmark-point API. components/src/dynamo/vllm/benchmark_points.py:131-153 [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]

ai-dynamo/dynamo

 • No references to the new execution_profile, speculative_round, FpmExecution*, or model_step_cuda APIs were found. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]
 • The runtime FPM message contract remains version 1 and contains scheduler telemetry fields only; it has no execution-profile or selector field. components/src/dynamo/common/forward_pass_metrics.py:28,157-174 [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]
 • Self-benchmark artifacts use a separate schema version 2, so the PR’s schema-v7 native-CUDA parquet contract is not consumed by Dynamo’s existing FPM artifact path. docs/fern/pages/reference/observability/forward-pass-metrics-traces.mdx:158,249 [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]

ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator

 • The frozen FPM loader requires schema version 6 and measurement policy dynamo_native_single_sample_v1; the PR’s schema-v7 native-CUDA policy will not pass this loader’s sidecar validation. aic-core/rust/aiconfigurator-core/src/perf_database/fpm_forward.rs:51-57,359-380 [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::]
 • Its cell identity remains fixed at 15 columns, with no execution selector/profile field. aic-core/rust/aiconfigurator-core/src/perf_database/fpm_forward.rs:84-110; aic-core/src/aiconfigurator_core/sdk/operations/fpm_forward.py:35-62,126-145 [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::]
 • No references to the new execution-profile or speculative-round symbols were found, confirming this repository is not yet a consumer of the new API. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::]

Two P2 findings from static review of 49d6965: the identity-only restriction is bypassed by ad-hoc operation evaluation, and collection silently drops the selected speculative execution identity. No tests were run as part of this review.
