Summary

Stacked on #463. Add opt-in traffic.load.agentic_warmup_policy: live_trajectory_v1 for continuous AgentX profiles; the default repeated-prefix policy remains unchanged.

  • Run snapshot primers, then advance the actual dependency graph with one-token responses for ten additional admissions per lane. Primers do not consume the warmup quota.
  • Retain branches, joins, lane/cache identities and the consumed corpus cursor across recycling. Require successful, quiescent preparation before opening the measured profile.
  • Keep preparation-only requests/plays out of formal outcome and trajectory metrics; retain separate preparation evidence.
  • Preserve main's generic SD, tokenization and runner-capability checks. The synchronization also retains the current authored-versus-synthetic session metadata contract.

Stack and review focus

Parent #463 and FPM identity #476 are merged. This PR now targets main and preserves main 918cb5a24c4ddc42a0ba624b4f70c826aef4e736, including #523 catalog updates. Current head: 3fc7094d7011367cca1ce1ae97b9adde695b905f.

The restack is a signed, history-preserving merge without force-push. Its full tree matched the independently computed old-parent-relative integration; main additions were preserved. The subsequent small follow-up fixes non-unit primer speedup and documentation. Review order remains #465 → #492; #492 retains the separate causal-handoff correction. No closed #464 streaming patch or private frontend delay is included.

Review fixes (October 19)

  • Propagate feat: import reference AgentX snapshot selections #463's integration-test, exporter-clock and persistent-provenance fixes.
  • Document the pinned AIPerf handoff behavior: compressed source time can reappear as initial idle after a global minimum shift, bounded by configured idle caps. This is not necessarily a scheduler stall. No scheduler behavior was changed for this documentation request.

October 20 review follow-up

  • Scale source-clock live-primer leads by arrival speedup before the runtime idle cap and global alignment. The old code returned 20ms instead of 10ms at 2x; the regression covers 2x, 0.5x and capped 2x. Default speedup 1 is unchanged.
  • Document that speedup is an AISimulate extension; the pinned AIPerf reference does not expose that knob.
  • Add the missing SDK Workload policy/capability documentation and correct imported-cut clock and SD-support statements.
  • Record the public snapshot Rust migration (new optional fields, removed Copy/Eq) in the existing migration guide. Package version selection, publication and downstream artifact qualification remain release-owner steps; this PR does not bump or publish packages.

Validation

  • Fresh exact-head Rust 1.96.1 embed-python native built and immutable module identity verified; 895 focused Python tests passed on this head.
  • Current fix: preserve causal delays after AgentX live warmup #492 stack tip: full default cargo test --workspace --locked --offline 2,166 passed (2,005 core, 158 integration, 3 doctests), one existing R17 artifact-dependent test ignored; excluded public API 16 passed. This is explicitly stack-tip workspace coverage, not a separate feat: advance AgentX trajectories during opt-in live warmup #465 workspace run.
  • Primer regression demonstrated red-before/green-after, alongside the existing speedup-1 alignment test. Independent public Rust probes passed five two-lane timing/cap cases and ten invalid-speedup cases across live/repeated policies.
  • Independent exact-head review found no remaining actionable finding. Source/legal checks, documentation destinations, strict/generated CODEOWNERS parity, scoped Ruff, Rust formatting, whitespace, GPG and DCO checks passed.
  • The preceding restack qualification at fix: preserve causal delays after AgentX live warmup #492 ffe706e0 passed 895 focused + 390 frozen-golden cases, with goldens unchanged. The final loadgen/doc-only follow-up does not touch performance-model math/data or goldens; that golden run is prior-head evidence, not a new-head rerun.
  • Hosted checks must qualify the exact current head; prior-head Full CI results do not transfer.

Advisory retest boundary

The earlier hosted CPU-predictor advisory flagged one cold unseen-query case (+10.28%). A fixed-original-SHA, pinned-CPU local retest used the unchanged 64-case/5-round protocol and thresholds: 128 comparisons, two different cold regressions, 66 noisy comparisons, no invalid results. The original point exceeded the threshold in 3/5 rounds and was classified noisy. This is not a clean pass or proof of a flake; the new-head hosted comparison remains the next qualification step. No predictor math or benchmark-threshold code was changed to suppress the result.

Boundaries

Initially supported by offline engine with continuous agentic_profile. External adapters must explicitly advertise live-warmup support. This is workload/phase fidelity, not GPU accuracy or full HTTP/tokenizer parity; AgentX tokenization remains unsupported as on main. No timing estimators, golden values or GPU workloads are changed.

ai-dynamo/dynamo

  • The replay adapter does not advertise supports_agentic_live_warmup, so live_trajectory_v1 remains unsupported by Dynamo. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::components/src/dynamo/replay/simulation.py:65-108]
  • Dynamo forwards existing agentic options but has no agentic_warmup_policy parameter in its replay API, preventing the new policy from reaching Dynamo’s replay path. 1353-1366: 🩺 Stability & Availability

The claim cannot be decided from the available source excerpts. The runtime caller is identified, but the complete readiness, control-time, and handoff implementations required to determine whether deferred nodes remain reachable were not returned.

1562-1565: 🎯 Functional Correctness

No additional finite timestamp check is needed here.

AgenticReplayContext rejects non-finite recorded start times, and snapshot construction rejects non-finite t_star_ms values before this handoff path runs. These values cannot reach the calculation as non-finite inputs through the supported constructors.

2767-2785: 🎯 Functional Correctness

The finding is refuted. Empty recorded outputs are valid for prefill-only nodes. crates/core/src/replay/loadgen/phase.rs:490-499 documents and implements the intentional fallback to a fixed execution-only token, and its test at phase.rs:1617-1636 accepts output_length: Some(0) and expects Some(vec![0]). The trace parser also permits zero-length outputs at crates/core/src/replay/loadgen/trace.rs:495-507; no non-empty-output contract exists.

📝 Summary

High risk. Human attention should focus on:

  1. Live trajectory state transitions, recycling, quiescence, and rollback.
  2. Public configuration and runner-capability contracts.
  3. Offline engine gating and exclusion of preparation traffic from measured results.

Changed behavior

  • Adds default repeated_prefixes and opt-in live_trajectory_v1 warmup policies.
  • live_trajectory_v1 advances AgentX dependency graphs with up to ten one-token admissions per lane.
  • Preserves lane, cache, frontier, and corpus-cursor state across recycling.
  • Requires successful, quiescent preparation before profiling.
  • Excludes preparation-only requests and plays from formal trajectory and outcome metrics.
  • Adds agentic_warmup_policy to Python, Rust, compiler, workload, and replay contracts.
  • Omits the default policy during serialization for compatibility.
  • Requires agentic warmup, an agentic profile, trace-timestamp input with lanes, and explicit runner support for live warmup.
  • CLI validation rejects live_trajectory_v1 unless execution uses offline --stack engine.
  • Adds supports_agentic_live_warmup to RunnerCapabilities, with a default of False.
  • Adds tests, documentation, ownership coverage, and third-party provenance notices.

Evidence supplied

  • The inspected repository is clean at commit 3fc7094d.
  • Source and tests confirm policy round-tripping, validation, and offline-engine CLI rejection.
  • Focused tests cover validation, serialization, runner capability checks, DAG advancement, concurrent primers, recycling, rootless frontiers, transactional reset, abort handling, and preparation barriers.
  • The author reports 893 focused tests passing on the exact head.
  • The author reports 314 native-extension tests passing in both orders.
  • The author reports 1,044 tests passing across the combined regression.
  • Ruff, formatting, diff, and CI checks reportedly pass.
  • No inline review threads remain, according to the author.

Evidence still missing

  • Test output is not independently verified here.
  • The reported 2,175-test result is stack-tip evidence, not an exact-PR workspace run.
  • Current review severity counts are unavailable.
  • No performance, GPU, tokenizer-parity, HTTP-parity, timing-estimator, or golden-value evidence is supplied. These remain outside the stated scope.
  • Technical quality and reported checks do not establish merge approval.

The pull request adds an opt-in live_trajectory_v1 agentic warmup policy. It updates replay execution, Python configuration, validation, runner capabilities, reporting, tests, documentation, provenance notices, and ownership rules.

Live warmup is opt-in, and its handoff to profiling works for budget-limited lanes. Two compatibility follow-ups remain before release. First, the new runner capability flag sits in the middle of the public dataclass, so positional callers can misassign later capability flags. Second, the Rust snapshot-options API break is documented but not yet recorded in a release version. Both are bounded and mergeable with owner awareness.

Full details: Review Evidence

Explanation

The PR description names test and quality checks with results, including exact-head native tests, stack-tip workspace tests, Ruff, formatting, whitespace, and diff checks. It includes boundary validation for unsupported policies, runner capabilities, output preservation, and adapter scope. It distinguishes local/native results, fake fixtures, pinned-source parity review, and hosted CI status. It explicitly states that historical checks do not qualify as hosted CI evidence, so it does not cite inactive nested workflows as hosted CI evidence.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description is detailed, relevant, and covers the change, review scope, compatibility boundaries, test evidence, and risks. It uses equivalent headings instead of the repository template and omits explicit Tracking and Modeling or data provenance sections, but the missing content is non-critical because the scope is clearly documented.

Full details: Cross-Layer Contract

Explanation

The cross-layer contract remains incomplete. The new SDK Workload row now documents both policies, default omission, profile requirements, and supports_agentic_live_warmup at docs/sweeper/sdk.md:219, but it does not state the offline --stack engine limitation required for this public table. The recommendation path copies the policy in python/aisimulate/src/aisimulate/recommend.py:735-736 and feeds it into recommendation_to_sweeper at :307-309, but the changed tests only cover direct schema/workload serialization and a manually constructed runner spec. No test verifies recommendation-to-ReplaySpec or runner-payload propagation. In addition, RunnerCapabilities is public (python/aisimulate/src/aisimulate/sweeper/__init__.py:56,206), but the new field is inserted before existing supports_generic_speculation and supports_tokenization fields at python/aisimulate/src/aisimulate/sweeper/replay.py:341-345; this shifts positional constructor arguments and contradicts the claimed compatibility preservation.

Resolution

Add the offline --stack engine limitation to the agentic_warmup_policy row in docs/sweeper/sdk.md. Add a recommendation-to-ReplaySpec test that configures live_trajectory_v1 and verifies the runner receives it. Move supports_agentic_live_warmup after the existing RunnerCapabilities fields so existing positional arguments retain their meaning, and add a regression test for that positional constructor order.

Full details: Modeling And Data Evidence

Explanation

The PR changes live trajectory selection and scheduling, including primer alignment, recycling, per-lane quotas, and frontier handoff in crates/core/src/replay/loadgen/phase.rs and driver.rs. It provides provenance through pinned AIPerf and InferenceX references (phase.rs:7-16, docs/replay/agentic/warmup.md:246-267). The validation remains binary-only local tests: the main live test uses a self-authored fixture (phase.rs:889-900) and asserts an implementation-authored sequence (phase.rs:983-998). No changed file adds a golden diff, independent oracle output, held-out comparison, or machine-readable before/after summary with anomaly checks. The documentation explicitly limits this to native functional qualification and excludes full AgentX parity (docs/replay/agentic/warmup.md:228-236). The prior failure is therefore unresolved.

Resolution

Add a deterministic, checked-in evidence run for a fixed fixture and pinned reference. Emit machine-readable before/after traces for the default and live policies, including inputs, seed, source revision, request selections, timestamps, quotas, frontier, cursor, and failure/cohort status. Compare the traces with an explained diff or independent oracle. Add anomaly checks for request counts, ordering, timer preservation, and frontier handoff. Record the exact command and results in the replay qualification record. Test pass counts alone are not sufficient.

Full details: Compatibility Boundaries

Explanation

The PR still breaks the public positional constructor contract for RunnerCapabilities. In python/aisimulate/src/aisimulate/sweeper/replay.py:342-345, supports_agentic_live_warmup is inserted before the existing supports_generic_speculation and supports_tokenization fields. Existing positional callers therefore bind later values to the wrong fields. The PR adds no positional regression test for those two fields, and no version change documents the break.

Resolution

Move supports_agentic_live_warmup after supports_tokenization. Add a regression test that constructs RunnerCapabilities positionally with explicit values for supports_generic_speculation and supports_tokenization, then verifies both attributes retain those values.

Fixed the contracts-shard failures in e744278 and integrated the latest #463 fixes in current head dff05a0:

  • Appended supports_agentic_live_warmup to RunnerCapabilities instead of inserting it among existing fields, preserving the positional constructor contract. The existing positional-API regression test was not changed.
  • Made the recommendation test fake conform to the real optional-traffic contract.
  • Removed the globally patched output helper that could leak into lazily imported modules. The overwrite regression now checks a real, recognized prediction.json sentinel and intercepts only worker execution; default recommendation uses a real temporary output directory.

Validation on the exact PR native extension: 314 tests passed in forward order and 314 in reverse order, including all five previously failing hosted cases. After integrating #463, the six-file combined regression passed 1,044 tests. Ruff/format/diff checks passed. CI gates were not weakened. There are currently no inline review threads on this PR to resolve; CodeRabbit skipped this non-default-base PR rather than issuing an approval.

LGTM, approving this layer. The approval assumes #463's two issues are fixed and the stacked Full CI goes green; it's currently red only via #463's E0063.

What I checked:

  • Primers: globally aligned, concurrent, and outside the per-lane quota.
  • Warmup budget: exactly ten live admissions per lane, recorded before the next pick in the same pop_ready batch. Over-quota ready sessions are deferred and restored rather than dropped, and next_ready_time_ms ignores them.
  • Accounting: warmup traffic is excluded from issued_requests/responses until start_ms is set, and from trajectory/outcome cohorts via preparation_only. Aborted live warmup marks everything preparation-only.
  • Handoff: fresh plays are prepared before reset_measurements and committed after it, so a failed reset stays retryable. ready_sessions is rebuilt only for Ready nodes, with no in-flight work at the barrier. The same-time budget stays finite during warmup and is reset at profile activation.

This also fits the replay liveness contract: unfinished requests keep a concrete wakeup (frontier timers, dependency release or the control time), and nothing spins at the same timestamp. Live warmup is opt-in, and runners must advertise support. The config field is documented on the workloads page, and the AIPerf-derived code carries notices in both copies.

One design question inline.

Re-approving on fa5ed65. The new warmup.md paragraph answers my handoff-idle question: one global minimum, matching the pinned reference's _handoff_replay_offset_ms / _profiling_phase_t0_offset_ms with default spread phase starts, with burst re-anchoring explicitly not modeled. I confirmed this PR's own code delta is unchanged since my last review; only that doc paragraph and the carried #463 fixes are new. This still assumes Full CI finishes green.

Linked repositories findings

ai-dynamo/dynamo

  • The replay adapter constructs RunnerCapabilities but does not pass the new supports_agentic_live_warmup capability, so Dynamo will retain the default unsupported status. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::components/src/dynamo/replay/simulation.py:66-108]

  • The adapter forwards only agentic_snapshot, agentic_warmup, and agentic_profile; agentic_warmup_policy is omitted, so live_trajectory_v1 cannot reach Dynamo’s run_trace_replay API. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::components/src/dynamo/replay/simulation.py:383-410] The API signature likewise has no policy parameter. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::components/src/dynamo/replay/api.py:233-271]

  • Mocker tests directly construct AgenticSnapshotOptions { seed: 7 } at several locations. These literals will require migration once the new public fields make the struct non-exhaustively constructible. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::lib/mocker/src/replay/agentic.rs:149-157] [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::lib/mocker/src/replay/agentic.rs:205-215] [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::lib/mocker/src/replay/agentic.rs:263-275]

  • Dynamo pins aisimulate-core to 0.13.0-dev.2, defining the upgrade boundary for these API changes. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::Cargo.toml:61-62]

ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator

  • Broad searches found no references to the new warmup policy, snapshot fields, or runner capability; no linked compatibility surface was identified.

A previous thread covered this behavior. The author checked it against the pinned AIPerf behavior and documented it in docs/replay/agentic/warmup.md.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Append the new capability after the existing fields.

If an existing caller constructs RunnerCapabilities positionally through supports_tokenization, this insertion shifts its arguments. A value intended for supports_generic_speculation becomes supports_agentic_live_warmup, and a value intended for supports_tokenization becomes supports_generic_speculation. An older adapter can therefore advertise live warmup without implementing it. Move the new field after supports_tokenization to preserve positional construction.

As per path instructions, “Public configuration, schemas, CLI options, Python/Rust APIs, defaults, documentation, and fixtures must remain synchronized.”

Move supports_agentic_live_warmup in RunnerCapabilities to after
supports_tokenization, preserving the existing positional ordering of
supports_generic_speculation and supports_tokenization while retaining the new
field’s default value.

## Agentic Load Controls

### Warmup

Successful profiles exclude preparation-only requests and retired plays from
counts and latency distributions. Active partially warmed plays retain their
identities and get a formal measurement origin at the barrier. An aborted live
warmup has an empty formal cohort; its request ledger remains in
`agentic_phases`. See [live trajectory warmup](agentic/warmup.md#live-trajectory-policy)
for qualification boundaries. Unsupported CLI stacks are rejected before
`--overwrite` prepares the output directory; external SDK adapters must
explicitly advertise `supports_agentic_live_warmup` and forward the policy.

Linked repositories findings

ai-dynamo/dynamo

  • DynamoReplayRunnerFactory does not advertise the new supports_agentic_live_warmup capability; live warmup will therefore remain unsupported by this adapter. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::components/src/dynamo/replay/simulation.py:65-108]
  • The replay adapter forwards only existing agentic options, and run_trace_replay has no agentic_warmup_policy parameter, so live_trajectory_v1 cannot currently reach Dynamo’s replay API. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::components/src/dynamo/replay/simulation.py:388-408] [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::components/src/dynamo/replay/api.py:233-271]
  • Mocker tests construct AgenticSnapshotOptions { seed: 7 }; these require migration if the updated snapshot options require additional fields or the new seeded constructor. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::lib/mocker/src/replay/agentic.rs:149-157] [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::lib/mocker/src/replay/agentic.rs:205-215] [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::lib/mocker/src/replay/agentic.rs:262-275]
  • Dynamo pins aisimulate-core to 0.13.0-dev.2, so these compatibility changes will only apply when that dependency is upgraded. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::Cargo.toml:61-62]

ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator

  • Targeted searches found no references to the new warmup policy, capability, or snapshot options.
