Why and what changed

Finite snapshot replay stops after its initial plays. Add opt-in traffic.load.agentic_profile across native, Python, CLI and Sweeper paths to sustain AgentX lanes for a requested duration. It recycles completed lanes with fresh play identities, applies idle guards, stops admission at the cutoff, allows response grace and acknowledges client cancellation. Unfinished server work remains visible.

Defaults are a 3,600-second window, 300-second tree / 10-second global idle caps, 30-second response grace and 10-second cancellation drain. Finite replay remains the default. Reports separate the admission window from successful-response observations, including responses received during grace. The quickstart includes complete YAML and a 600-second override.

Review map and corrected boundaries

Risk is high: review profile loadgen lifecycle, aggregated/P-D cancellation and bounded reporting. Delayed/background descendants, repeated lanes, corpus wrap, zero-time loops, idle compression, queue cancellation and actual committed batch ownership are covered.

  • Exactly-once settlement: a child delayed beyond cutoff leaves its play incomplete, records one quiescence event and cannot settle while server work remains.
  • Fully cached zero-output SGLang requests and retracted speculative decode candidates do not count as committed GPU work. Mixed cached/cold cancellation preserves two client cancellations but only one unsettled server request.
  • Static worker/GPU accounting uses the full reporting epoch; throughput retains the successful cohort's arrival-to-response interval, including zero-success/singleton behavior.
  • Cancellation drain is bounded client acknowledgement, not a promise that GPU work has finished. Profiles reject speculative decoding. The new capability field preserves existing positional constructors.
  • Growing profile memory remains unqualified: supervised serial execution and live resource checks remain required; direct native callers own supervision.

Current validation — 2026-10-02

Head 75a992a1aa97e604068a9e14745282dab535d202 includes current main 8dad9634. The stack remains main ← #307 ← #306.

  • 1,955 Rust core tests pass, with one existing ignored test, after current-main integration.
  • Fast CI passes. Full CI 37049936250 passes all 54 executed jobs on this exact head.
  • Existing lifecycle, cancellation, reporting, positional compatibility and supervised-resource regressions remain included. Earlier September review/test receipts are historical; the above checks establish the current integrated source result.
  • Human domain/CODEOWNER approval and joint acceptance remain separate merge gates.

Routing and installation boundary

This PR supplies duration against main. #306 adds neutral lineage/routing lifecycle hooks and is based on this branch. Dynamo #15240 supplies conversation-aware routing through its existing runner, provider and native adapter; #14355 is already merged, and #15149 is closed/not required.

The source pair uses AISimulate production commit 240aff04bc45936eac754608ced5ce0989096022 (containing this duration work and #306's hooks), built with the existing Dynamo distributions. There is no new package, bundled policy implementation or local override. The combined quickstart records the tested immutable Dynamo revision and complete duration+routing commands. The clean a095ab572c source pair passes 38 installed CLI tests and both 600/3,600-second quickstart examples. Current consumer verification is tracked in #15240, which remains open awaiting its complete CI and required review. A source build is not a published matching release.

Delivery order and feature acceptance

The requested order is Dynamo #15240 → revalidate AISimulate against the merged Dynamo commit → AISimulate #307 → #306. The actual AISimulate base stack stays main ← #307 ← #306.

Dynamo #15240 can build first using publicly available immutable AISimulate source 240aff04; the AISimulate PRs do not need to have merged for that fetch/build. This temporarily leaves Dynamo pinned to unmerged AISimulate source, to be advanced after the AISimulate merge/release. There is no reverse core dependency or local override.

Current conversation-routing acceptance uses Dynamo feature commit a095ab572c, not Dynamo main. AISimulate's own passing CI does not establish that the full feature works with merged Dynamo. Rebuild/install the matching pair and rerun the real CLI/quickstart against the actual Dynamo merge commit before declaring this delivery complete. Published matching packages are a separate requirement; the current documented installation builds existing wheels from source.

Modeling and provenance

Independent implementation on AISimulate's dependency graph and virtual event loop. Behavioral reference: SemiAnalysisAI/agentx-harness@754356e9a39acc6cc6afb242d123bb57c3fb6f75, pinned by InferenceX@4ab85c1e33b66d6bd5a3087b3de5ba3e86cbbe80; paths and Apache-2.0 attribution are documented in docs/agentic-profile.md.

Retains #235 saved-frontier warmup and initial snapshot RNG, which differ from live warmup/sampling. Functional qualification does not establish GPU accuracy or complete live AgentX parity. AIC-1896/1818 joint acceptance remains open; lifecycle evidence grows with issued work.

Linked repositories findings

ai-dynamo/dynamo

Critical compatibility gaps with the PR's agentic_profile feature:

1. Missing supports_agentic_profile capability advertisement

The DynamoReplayRunnerFactory class exists but does not advertise supports_agentic_profile in its capabilities. The PR introduces supports_agentic_profile: bool = False as a default in RunnerCapabilities. When Sweeper's require_compatible(spec) validates a workload with agentic_profile configured, it will be rejected because Dynamo's factory does not declare support. This is a breaking incompatibility for users attempting agentic profiles with Dynamo runtime. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]

2. agentic_profile parameter not forwarded through API entry points

The Dynamo replay layer does not forward agentic_profile configuration:

  • simulation.py: Extracts and passes agentic_lanes and max_sim_time_ms to run_trace_replay(), but agentic_profile is not extracted from the spec workload
  • api.py: The _TraceReplayOptions TypedDict includes agentic_lanes but no agentic_profile field; the run_trace_replay() function signature has agentic_lanes=None but no agentic_profile parameter
  • mocker/init.py: The run_mocker_trace_replay() function accepts agentic_lanes=None but no agentic_profile parameter

Even if capability validation were bypassed, profile configuration cannot reach the engine. Dynamo's replay and mocker entry points require coordinated updates to accept and forward agentic_profile. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]

3. PassStartEffects.committed_requests transported opaquely

In lib/mocker/src/generalized_live.rs, PassStartEffects is imported and transported through PassStarted(EnginePassStarted<PassStartEffects>) but the field is not explicitly constructed or consumed in Dynamo. The mocker will forward committed_requests without semantic awareness of the new field. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]

ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator

No references to agentic-profile or committed-request contracts found. No updates required. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::]

Impact Summary

The PR's agentic profile feature cannot be used with Dynamo runtime without separate coordinated updates to:

  1. Update DynamoReplayRunnerFactory to set supports_agentic_profile = True
  2. Add agentic_profile parameter extraction and forwarding through simulation.py, api.py, and mocker/__init__.py
  3. Wire the configuration through to engine initialization

Users will encounter rejection at validation time, and configurations reaching the engine layer will lack profile settings.

📝 Summary

Risk: High. Human attention should focus on:

  1. Profile cutoff, response grace, cancellation, and unsettled server-work accounting.
  2. Committed-request tracking across scheduler retraction and cached versus computed work.
  3. Configuration, runner capability, and report contracts across Rust and Python.

Changed behavior

  • Adds opt-in continuous AgentX profiles across native, Python, CLI, and Sweeper paths. Finite snapshot replay remains the default.
  • Recycles lanes with fresh play identities from a shared corpus cursor and applies per-play and global idle limits.
  • Stops admissions at the cutoff. Issued requests receive response grace, then client cancellation. Unfinished server work remains reported.
  • Reports the admission window separately from the successful-response observation interval, including responses received during grace.
  • Tracks committed request IDs through scheduler results and pending-pass state. Fully cached zero-output requests are excluded from committed-work accounting.
  • Treats profile resource estimates as unqualified when retained lifecycle evidence has no qualified static bound. Supervised admission uses one worker/candidate and live pressure checks.

Public contract changes

  • Adds AgenticProfileOptions, AgenticProfileReport, and profile lifecycle APIs.
  • Adds committed_requests to pass effects and engine pass results.
  • Adds agentic_profile to traffic, workload, replay, and report structures.
  • Adds runner capability checks for agentic profiles and rejects incompatible simulation-stop settings.
  • Preserves positional construction of RunnerCapabilities.

Technical quality

  • Supplied validation reports 1,661 passing Rust core tests, one existing ignored test, and passing formatting and whitespace checks.
  • Supplied evidence reports a related 219-test suite passed.
  • Regression coverage includes cancellation and grace behavior, scheduler retraction, mixed cached/cold batches, configuration validation, resource supervision, and finite replay behavior.
  • Documentation covers profile controls, defaults, lane recycling, cancellation, resource supervision, and report interpretation.
  • Supplied objectives state that current-head CodeRabbit review reported no actionable findings. This bot review is not human approval.

Evidence still missing

  • Full CI is reported as running. Its final result is not supplied.
  • Required human CODEOWNER and domain approval are not supplied.
  • Review severity counts are unavailable because no current review findings were supplied.
  • Validation results come from the supplied PR objectives. They were not independently rerun.

Merge readiness

The repository inspection shows no uncommitted changes and identifies 2a330952 as the latest commit. The inspection does not establish Full CI results or human approvals. Merge readiness is therefore not established.

Walkthrough

Agentic profiles now flow through configuration, workload execution, replay lifecycle, and reporting. Scheduler passes also record committed request IDs so replay state can distinguish committed work from queued or retracted work.

Fixed the fully cached zero-output settlement risk in c362aeb, including the concern in the current review's global risk summary.

SGLang now records committed prefill ownership only for requests whose aligned native FPM entry actually computed input tokens. A fully cached zero-output request is excluded, while cold/chunked prefill remains committed even if it emits no token. The new native regression checks a mixed cached/cold batch with real cache-hit and forward-token counters.

A replay-level regression for both vLLM and SGLang seeds the prefix cache, launches cached-zero and cold-zero requests in one batch, then cancels at 35 ms: two client cancellations, zero client in-flight, and exactly one unsettled server request. The old SGLang implementation incorrectly reported two. This tests the profile cancellation/reporting path, not only the scheduler field.

Full Rust core library on c362aeb: 1661 passed, 1 existing ignored, 0 failed; formatting and whitespace checks pass. #306 integrates this commit. Current-head hosted CI and CodeRabbit checks are still required; previous-head green results are historical.

Addressed the non-inline Cross-Layer Contract warning in 58c19dd: the authoritative CLI and Sweeper workload tables now include agentic_profile and all five fields/defaults; finite end-of-trace behavior is explicitly conditional on the profile being absent. Removed the stale statement that corpus wrapping and fixed-duration lanes are unsupported, and linked the canonical runnable profile guide while preserving snapshot/warmup parity and backend limitations.

Defaults and field names were checked against Python and Rust; relative links and the runnable fixture resolve. This commit changes documentation only: all core source is byte-identical to c362aeb (1661 passed, 1 existing ignored). Current-head CI/review remain separate checks. Required Evidence/Tracking fields are included in the PR description.

ai-dynamo/dynamo

  • The Sweeper adapter calls require_compatible(spec) but DynamoReplayRunnerFactory.capabilities() does not advertise supports_agentic_profile; with the new default of False, profiled workloads will be rejected. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]
  • components/src/dynamo/replay/simulation.py:287-313 forwards agentic_lanes and max_sim_time_ms but not agentic_profile, so profile settings cannot reach run_trace_replay. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]
  • components/src/dynamo/replay/api.py:56-63, 139-194 and components/src/dynamo/mocker/__init__.py:48-71 expose no agentic_profile argument. The Dynamo replay and Mocker entry points therefore require a coordinated compatibility update. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]

Addressed the full walkthrough Cross-Layer resource-admission warning in 555e32001beab0cc04cb8de4bac5d1d722f9f62d. workload_bounds now preserves validated profile controls. The trace estimator keeps its streaming/initial-materialization refusal, but treats full-profile peak memory as unqualified because retained lifecycle evidence can exceed the finite corpus. The existing supervised admission therefore uses one worker/candidate and live pressure checks; direct low-level callers retain responsibility for supervision. No artificial duration multiplier or Rust change was introduced.

Before the fix, default 3600s and 86400s real CLI runs incorrectly reported the same finite 536,974,624-byte peak. Afterward both execute native replay under supervision and report an unknown peak: respectively 6 plays/6 successes and 144 plays/144 successes with observed RSS. Regression coverage includes recommendation lowering, per-run and wave guards, refusal of concurrent profile candidates, unchanged finite replay, and preparse storage/large-token rejection. The related host/supervision/scheduler/unified suite passes 219 tests. Public documentation states the resource boundary and possible resource_limited termination. Final exact-head CI and independent matching-package qualification are tracked separately.

@coderabbitai review

Please review current head 2a33095282c209fffbd9290e48cfbbe64cd7c14b. The quickstart now uses two complete pinned Weka plays (162 recursively counted model requests), the trace's 64-token hash blocks, two lanes, and a 4 GB supervised execution budget. The exact documented source-engine configuration completed both 3600-second and 600-second runs; the runtime implementation is unchanged from reviewed commit 555e3200.

@Harrilee No actionable findings from the current-head documentation change.

The inspected configuration path accepts and forwards traffic.source.block_size: 64. Resource inspection uses it for Weka hash-block accounting. Two initial lanes select the two corpus plays in order. The documented supervised-resource behavior matches the profile estimator.

@coderabbitai run pre-merge checks

Re-run the configured pre-merge checks on unchanged head 2a33095282c209fffbd9290e48cfbbe64cd7c14b. The completed review reported Cross-Layer Contract as INCONCLUSIVE because “No result was produced after verification.” Please produce its final result with the existing instructions; no check is being ignored or reconfigured. The prior 7-pass/1-inconclusive result remains historical evidence.

Review follow-through is complete at 2a33095. The fixes and thread-specific replies cover cutoff/quiescence, positional capability compatibility, actual committed-work cancellation (including SGLang cached-zero requests), static reporting epochs and supervised duration admission. All seven review threads are resolved.

The complete quickstart now uses two whole Weka plays, two lanes, actual 64-token source blocks and a 4 GB supervised budget. Its exact YAML runs for 3600 simulated seconds through the standalone engine: 219 successful requests, zero canceled/unsettled, with observed cache reuse; the documented 600-second override also passes. #306 includes this head and qualifies duration plus native Dynamo routing using an installed matching wheel pair, without #15149 or local overrides. Artifact provenance and source equivalence are recorded in both PR descriptions.

Both current-head Fast checks and Full CI pass (52 successful jobs, two expected skips; exact RUN_SHA verified). Complete CodeRabbit review is Minimal with 8/8 pre-merge checks. Its initial Cross-Layer Contract INCONCLUSIVE result was rerun on the same head and passed; no check was bypassed. Required CODEOWNER/domain approval and main freshness remain merge gates; this PR is not merged.
