## Lead the homepage with the writing experience

On 2026-10-13, the creator asked to reconsider the homepage feature order
and wording for positioning and conversion. Address people who already
use a terminal and want a place to write: lead with focus and automatic
saving, then privacy, versions, familiar controls, and portable Markdown.
Use six short benefit-led descriptions, with concrete behavior supporting
each. Leave shortcut details and sorting options to the guide and README.
The hero still identifies writui as a terminal writing app; its supporting
line explains focus, autosave, and local encryption. Keep the demo caption
as the invitation to try a writing session, and make free/open-source status
explicit. Preserve the early-stage backup and password-recovery caveats.

The creator also rejected a promotion plan that waited two weeks for a
directory listing before attempting another placement. Prepare suitable
opportunities concurrently and progress approved recruitment continuously;
human response time must not block research, preparation, or improvements.

## Next up

Alongside development, focus promotion on regular users and useful feedback.
The first experiment is an illustrated "Try a five-minute writing session"
blog post, linked in the site's demo caption and from the README, with a short
GitHub feedback form. It guides people through using their regular vault.

The illustrated "Try a five-minute writing session" guide and GitHub
feedback form landed in PR #24. The guide is linked from the demo caption
and README and uses the reader's regular vault. Next, sharpen the homepage
around the writing experience and actively recruit people to try a session.
Prepare suitable community placements together; do not wait two weeks for
a directory listing before doing more outreach. Learn where new writers
get stuck and whether they return on another day.
Keep promotion work in separate PRs from the app milestones below.

- **Private.** All your posts live in one file, encrypted with your
password. Without the password nobody can read them. Ctrl+O locks it
when you step away, and unlocking takes you back where you were.
- **Plain markdown.** Each post starts with a `# Title`, and it stays plain
markdown on screen, formatted as you type: headings and bold in bold,
italics in italics, code in green, with the markdown symbols faded.
- **Versions.** Save a named version whenever you like, look back through
them, and bring an old one back.
- **Mouse and keyboard.** Click, scroll, select and press buttons with the
mouse, or use shortcuts. While writing, Ctrl+K opens a menu of
everything you can do.
- **Fits your terminal.** It uses your terminal's own colours and font, and
works in any modern terminal: Alacritty, Ghostty, iTerm2, and others.
- **Finds anything.** Type to search the full text of every post, front
matter and all, and sort the list by when posts were updated or created,
or by title, either way round.
- **Gets out of the way.** A single centred column of text. The word count
and shortcuts show up while you hold Ctrl, and it opens where you left
off.
- **Takes your writing anywhere.** Copy a post as markdown, or export it as
a file with front matter for your blog. Import a markdown or text file to
edit it here and export it back.
- **Just you and your words.** One calm column, in your terminal's colours
and font. Markdown formats as you type, with its marks still visible.
- **Pick up where you left off.** Your writing saves automatically. Reopen
a post and your cursor is right where you left it.
- **Keep your writing private.** Your posts stay on your computer in a
password-encrypted vault. Lock it when you step away.
- **Try another draft. Keep the first.** Save a named version before you
make changes. Read or restore it whenever you want.
- **Use the controls you know.** Click, scroll and select, or use keyboard
shortcuts. Search your posts or find a command in the menu.
- **Take your words with you.** Import Markdown or text files. Copy or
export your writing as Markdown, ready for your blog or another editor.

writui is early, and built in the open, a small piece at a time. It's
usable for writing now, but keep a copy of anything you can't afford to
lose. And there is no way to recover a forgotten password.
