feat: repo config in .paradev/, .superset/ still read (SUPER-2984, SUPER-2986) - #9248
Finishes the user-facing side of the .superset → .paradev move (Linear SUPER-2984, SUPER-2986), after #9157 and #9158 moved the app home. Nobody has to change anything: repos configured in .superset/ keep working, and everything new says and uses .paradev.
Repo config folder
resolveProjectConfigDir (@superset/shared/project-config/dir) decides by the main config first: .paradev/ if it has config.toml or config.json, else .superset/ if it does; only then by the other config files (local overlays, ports.json, setup/teardown/run/start.sh); else .paradev/ for new config. A stray ports.json or local overlay in .paradev/ therefore never hides a repo's .superset/config.toml, and a folder is never judged by existing alone, because pdev keeps its own settings.json, agents/ and prompts/ in <repo>/.paradev/.
Every reader and writer goes through it: host-service's TOML and v1 loaders, <key>.sh fallbacks, ports, the config editors and their .git/info/exclude entry, the desktop's v1 config, the copy into new worktrees, and the cloud's GitHub reads (.paradev/ first, then .superset/). A repo configured in .superset/ keeps being edited there, so a repo never ends up with config in both.
Files the app writes for agents (attachments and task prompts) go to .paradev/attachments/, and every writer drops a self-ignoring .gitignore there, so they never show up as repo changes. The transcript still recognizes .superset/attachments/ so older messages keep rendering. An older desktop talking to an updated cloud box will show new attachments as plain tags until it updates.
The v1 worktree copy fills in missing config files when the worktree already has a .paradev/ (pdev's tracked files), and never copies attachments or task prompts.
Copy
App strings (translated in every locale), CLI help, the setup-script prompts, the setup, environment and browser skills (plugin 0.3.3).
Docs: home paths are ~/.paradev, config is .paradev/ with a note that .superset/ still works, and two FAQ entries: where ~/.superset went (including when the move is retried), and keeping or moving a repo's .superset/ (merge into an existing .paradev/, update ./.superset/ paths).
READMEs and the compare pages. This repo's own .superset/ stays.
Verified
tsc clean; tests: shared 1534, trpc 832, cli 474, agent-setup 434, host-service 2711, desktop 9037, all passing. New tests cover the folder rule (pdev-only .paradev/ ignored, .paradev/ preferred once it holds config), the config editor keeping a .superset/ repo in place, the cloud reads, and old attachment paths.
In the dev desktop app (scratch HOME): a project with a committed .superset/config.toml and a pdev-only .paradev/settings.json ran its setup from .superset/ in a new workspace; a new project's setup saved from Settings landed in .paradev/config.json and ran in a new workspace.

Walkthrough
The change adds shared resolution for .paradev and legacy .superset project configuration directories. It updates workspace attachment and task-file paths, adjusts configuration consumers, and revises related documentation, prompts, tests, and translations.
Shared helpers select .paradev when it contains recognized configuration files, use .superset when only that directory has configuration, and default to .paradev. Desktop and host configuration, ports, repository hooks, and local-config exclusion use the resolved path. Tests cover current and legacy configurations.
Attachment and task-file paths now use .paradev directory constants. Attachment parsing still accepts .superset/attachments; related tests and snapshots use the updated paths.
Documentation, prompts, translations, and plugin instructions refer to the updated paths. The FAQ and setup guidance describe how existing .superset repository configuration remains supported. The plugin version changes from 0.3.2 to 0.3.3.
ParadevAI/Paradev#8996 requests a local-overlay save target for the configuration editor. This change updates configuration directory resolution and local-config reading, but the supplied summaries do not show a change to the overlay save target.

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to 5d968
Existing .superset repositories can silently stop loading their setup config if someone adds a .paradev/ports.json or script, and the new docs and skill examples invite exactly that. New agent attachments can show up as untracked files and be committed by accident. Fix the resolver and docs behavior and add the ignore rule before merging. The plugin release registration and the legacy image replay gap are smaller follow-ups.

### Issue 1
packages/shared/src/project-config/dir.ts:15-18
`CONFIG_FILES` omits `start.sh`, although `withScriptFallbacks` supports it. If a repo is configured only through `.superset/start.sh`, the new resolver selects `.paradev`. The host then misses the existing script, so cloud boot skips its services. Include `start.sh` among the files that identify a config folder.
```suggestion "ports.json", "setup.sh", "teardown.sh", "run.sh", "start.sh",```### Issue 2
apps/desktop/src/lib/trpc/routers/workspaces/utils/setup.ts:23-25
`copySupersetConfigToWorktree` now copies into `.paradev`, which may already contain tracked pdev settings or prompts. If the repo keeps its Paradev config and scripts gitignored, that existing directory makes the copy skip them. The main repo's commands still load, but `./.paradev/setup.sh` fails because the script was never copied. Copy missing config files without replacing the worktree's existing files.
### Issue 3
packages/shared/src/workspace-attachments.ts:19
Moving `WORKSPACE_ATTACHMENTS_DIR` leaves existing ignore rules behind. This repo, for example, ignores only `.superset/attachments/`. Both terminal launches and `materializeIntoWorkspace` write into the new folder without creating an ignore file, so attachments now appear as untracked changes. Make these writers create a self-ignoring `.gitignore`, as `agentImages` already does, rather than requiring every existing repo to update its rules.
### Issue 4
apps/docs/content/docs/faq.mdx:66
Running only `git mv .superset .paradev` leaves commands such as `./.superset/setup.sh` pointing at the removed folder. This repo's own `config.json` uses those paths, and the host runs command strings unchanged. Tell users to update references in config files and scripts in the same commit. Apply the same guidance to the setup skill.
### Issue 5
apps/docs/content/docs/faq.mdx:66
If `.paradev` already exists, `git mv .superset .paradev` moves the old folder into `.paradev/.superset/` rather than renaming it. The setup skill explicitly supports repos with pdev files already in `.paradev`, so this is a supported starting state. Warn users to preserve and merge those files instead of running this command unchanged. Otherwise, the config moves somewhere the resolver never reads.
Summary
Moves new repo config and agent files to .paradev, while keeping .superset config readable.
Repo settings now use .paradev/ while old .superset/ setups keep working.
New agent prompts and attachments now live in .paradev/.
Acknowledged behavior: saddlepaddle notes that older desktops show new cloud attachment tags as plain text until updated.
Paradev moved its folder from `~/.superset` to `~/.paradev` the first time an updated app, CLI or host started. Your worktrees, sessions and settings moved with it, and `~/.superset` is now a link to `~/.paradev`, so old paths and older CLI builds keep working. Open terminals keep running through the move.
**My repo has a `.superset/` folder. Do I need to change it?**
No. Paradev still reads a repo's config from `.superset/` and keeps editing it there. New repos get `.paradev/`. To move an existing one, rename the folder in one commit (`git mv .superset .paradev`) once everyone on the team runs a current Paradev.
`~/.paradev/worktrees/`, as ordinary git worktrees (sessions live at `~/.paradev/sessions/`). Deleting a workspace removes its worktree; Paradev never deletes worktrees behind your back.
**Where did `~/.superset` go?**
Paradev moved its folder from `~/.superset` to `~/.paradev` the first time an updated app, CLI or host started. Your worktrees, sessions and settings moved with it, and `~/.superset` is now a link to `~/.paradev`, so old paths and older CLI builds keep working. Open terminals keep running through the move.
Describe the home-migration fallback.
If both home directories contain an entry with the same name, migration fails and the process continues using ~/.superset. In that case, the documented ~/.paradev/bin PATH will not find the installed shims. Describe the fallback and how to identify the active home. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
Update the home-migration paragraph to describe that a same-name entry in both
home directories can prevent migration, leaving the process on ~/.superset and
making ~/.paradev/bin an inaccurate PATH entry; explain how users can determine
**My repo has a `.superset/` folder. Do I need to change it?**
No. Paradev still reads a repo's config from `.superset/` and keeps editing it there. New repos get `.paradev/`. To move an existing one, rename the folder in one commit (`git mv .superset .paradev`) once everyone on the team runs a current Paradev.
Update references when moving the config folder.
git mv does not update script paths inside the config. For example, this repository’s .superset/config.toml runs ./.superset/setup.sh, which fails after that folder is renamed. If .paradev already exists, git mv can also move .superset inside it instead. Instruct users to handle an existing destination and update references in the same commit. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
Keep port labels in the selected config directory.
If a repository has .superset/config.toml or .superset/config.json, creating .paradev/ports.json makes the resolver select .paradev for all project config. Existing setup, teardown, and run settings then stop resolving. Tell users to add ports.json to the existing config directory; apply the same rule to the other port-label guidance. Direct TOML projects to edit their existing config.
If the repository already has config.toml, loadProjectConfig uses it before config.json. Following this instruction can therefore create a JSON file whose commands never run. Direct those users to edit the existing TOML file, and retain the selected directory for legacy projects. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
Do not let an auxiliary file hide a legacy base configuration.
If an existing repo has .superset/config.toml and gains .paradev/ports.json, resolveProjectConfigDirName selects .paradev. packages/host-service/src/runtime/setup/project-config-toml.ts then cannot find the legacy TOML file, so setup and terminal configuration stop loading. The same problem applies when .paradev contains only config.local.toml or a script. Select the directory for base configuration separately, or fall back to the legacy directory when the selected directory has no base configuration. The PR objective requires existing .superset configurations to remain usable.
Read legacy image references during replay.
storeAgentImage looks up .image-references only under WORKSPACE_ATTACHMENTS_DIR (.paradev/attachments). References saved before the upgrade are under .superset/attachments/.image-references, so replay misses them.
Replay then re-reads the original source file. The result depends on that file:
If it is unchanged, the image is restored.
If it changed, replay can show the wrong image.
If it was removed, replay returns no image.
Check LEGACY_WORKSPACE_ATTACHMENTS_DIR for the reference and the stored file in the replay branch. When the legacy file is usable, return the legacy path. attachmentTags already accepts both prefixes, so the legacy path still renders.
Exclude attachments created by the terminal and design-mode writers.
The repository ignores .superset/attachments/, but it does not ignore .paradev/attachments/. The terminal adapter and writeDesignModeAttachments create the new directory without an ignore file. Attachments created through either path can remain untracked, and git add -A can commit private files.
The host-service image writer and pasted-file writer already create a local .gitignore. Add the same create-only * rule to the terminal and design-mode writers before they write attachments.
Use the selected config directory in script examples.
…PER-2986)
A repo's Paradev config folder is now `.paradev/`. Repos configured in
`.superset/` keep working unchanged:
- `resolveProjectConfigDir` (`@superset/shared/project-config/dir`)
picks `.paradev/` when it holds a config file, else `.superset/` when
that does, else `.paradev/` for new config. It judges the folder by
its config files, not by existing: pdev keeps its own settings,
agents and prompts in `<repo>/.paradev/`.
- Every reader and writer goes through it: config.toml / config.local
.toml, the v1 config.json / config.local.json and `<key>.sh`
scripts, ports.json, the config editors, the `.git/info/exclude`
entry, the copy into new worktrees, and the cloud's GitHub reads
(`.paradev/` first, then `.superset/`). A repo configured in
`.superset/` keeps being edited there.
- Files the app writes for agents (attachments, task prompts) go to
`.paradev/`. The transcript still recognizes `.superset/attachments/`
so older messages keep rendering.
Copy: app strings, CLI help, the setup-script prompts, the setup and
environment skills (plugin 0.3.3), the docs site (home paths to
`~/.paradev`, config to `.paradev/`, a FAQ entry on where `~/.superset`
went and on keeping or moving a repo's `.superset/`), the READMEs and
the compare pages. Translations updated for the two changed strings.
This repo's own `.superset/` stays.
… and worktree repair (#9265)
* fix: repair moved worktrees past a deleted workspace folder
`git worktree repair` exits with a fatal error at a path whose parent
folder no longer exists, and skips every path after it. One archived
workspace with a deleted parent (e.g. `investigate/<name>`) left later
worktrees of the same repo with git records on ~/.superset. They kept
working only through the symlink. Skip paths that do not exist.
Also rename the CLI build cache to ~/.paradev-build-cache, the last
~/.superset-* folder the repo still creates.
Co-Authored-By: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(agent-setup): treat ~/.paradev hook paths as managed
Since the home moved to ~/.paradev, the managed hook matcher no longer
recognized the default home's own hook paths. A dev build would leave
the ~/.paradev cursor/gemini/notify entries next to its own instead of
replacing them, like it did with ~/.superset ones before the move.
Co-Authored-By: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com>
* chore: rename the per-worktree dev data folder to paradev-dev-data
Setup now writes SUPERSET_HOME_DIR=<worktree>/paradev-dev-data. A
worktree set up before the rename gets its superset-dev-data renamed on
the next setup run, so it keeps its local DB and sign-in. Teardown
--force removes either name, and the agent-setup hook matcher still
treats superset-dev-data hook paths as managed so old worktrees' hook
entries get reaped.
Co-Authored-By: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com>
* chore: drop superset-dev-data handling from setup and teardown
Setup no longer renames an old superset-dev-data folder, and teardown
only removes paradev-dev-data. Old worktrees re-run setup --force.
Co-Authored-By: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com>
* chore: move this repo's workspace config from .superset/ to .paradev/
The setup, teardown, cloud start and archive scripts and config.toml/json
now live in .paradev/, which canary desktops and cloud boxes already
read (#9248). Scripts, docs, READMEs, skills and the golden release
check point at the new paths. Script output, the cloud tmux session and
the local MCP entry say paradev, and setup reads the installed app home
from ~/.paradev only.
.gitignore still ignores .superset/, so leftover ports.json and local
overlays in existing worktrees are never committed.
Co-Authored-By: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix: retry stale worktree repairs on every boot, address review
The repair only ran when the boot rewrote database rows. A machine
whose earlier repair failed after the rows were rewritten (every canary
that hit the missing-parent case) never retried it. Callers now always
run it, and repairGitWorktrees only touches checkouts whose git records
still name the legacy home, so the per-boot cost is two small file
reads per workspace.
Review follow-ups: restore superset-dev-data coverage in the Gemini
test and cover .paradev / paradev-dev-data in the Muse one, drop the
old superset-local MCP entry on setup --mcp, anchor the legacy ignores
to the repo root, fix the CDP skill's app-home note and dev-cli's
comment and hint, and name both config dirs in the MCP delete tool.
Co-Authored-By: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(agent-setup): resolve relative worktree backlinks before matching the legacy home
Finishes the user-facing side of the
.superset→.paradevmove (Linear SUPER-2984, SUPER-2986), after #9157 and #9158 moved the app home. Nobody has to change anything: repos configured in.superset/keep working, and everything new says and uses.paradev.Repo config folder
resolveProjectConfigDir(@superset/shared/project-config/dir) decides by the main config first:.paradev/if it hasconfig.tomlorconfig.json, else.superset/if it does; only then by the other config files (local overlays,ports.json,setup/teardown/run/start.sh); else.paradev/for new config. A strayports.jsonor local overlay in.paradev/therefore never hides a repo's.superset/config.toml, and a folder is never judged by existing alone, because pdev keeps its ownsettings.json,agents/andprompts/in<repo>/.paradev/.<key>.shfallbacks, ports, the config editors and their.git/info/excludeentry, the desktop's v1 config, the copy into new worktrees, and the cloud's GitHub reads (.paradev/first, then.superset/). A repo configured in.superset/keeps being edited there, so a repo never ends up with config in both..paradev/attachments/, and every writer drops a self-ignoring.gitignorethere, so they never show up as repo changes. The transcript still recognizes.superset/attachments/so older messages keep rendering. An older desktop talking to an updated cloud box will show new attachments as plain tags until it updates..paradev/(pdev's tracked files), and never copies attachments or task prompts.Copy
