probe()anddetails()are not called by a production workflow at this revision. The desktop crate only callsprobe()from its health test. Therefore, this is not a major reachable user-impact issue in the current PR.The timeout concern remains valid for future callers.
to_socket_addrs()has no deadline, andconnect_timeout()applies 500 ms per resolved address. A hostname can therefore make one probe exceed 500 ms. Add a probe-wide deadline when this check becomes part of a user-facing refresh path.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

- Line 45: Limit the status-line read in the health-check flow using
`Read::take` with a fixed maximum byte count, and return `Ok(false)` if the
resulting line does not end with a newline. Add the `std::io::Read` import if
needed for `take`.

This PR adds
desktop.tomlsettings and aGET /healthcheck toswitchyard-desktop.Config::loadrejects unknown keys and fills missing settings from the installation directory and port. The installer shares those defaults.A server sending one byte every 100 ms could keep the old health check waiting beyond its 500 ms timeout. The check now uses one 500 ms deadline for name lookup, connection attempts, writes, and reads. The first response line, such as
HTTP/1.1 200 OK, must end within 1,024 bytes, including the newline. Slow, oversized, incomplete, and malformed replies report the server as unreachable.Callers retain a
health::Probeso repeated checks share one worker and at most one waiting request. An operating-system name lookup cannot be cancelled. If it stalls, checks fail until it returns; they do not start more workers. Tests cover slow replies, exact size boundaries, malformed responses, and a stalled lookup. The first-launch setup screen and editable Settings form are in #1117, alongside the desktop UI. Users can change the default filenames there. Existing app settings or a default server config skip setup, including after reinstall.
