Why

Use Switchyard routing in Claude Code with a local plugin and the existing Claude login.

What

Adds automatic Sonnet/Opus selection. Install the plugin and reload once. /switchyard off pauses routing; /switchyard on enables it for the next request. The status line shows the selected model or a routing error.

How

A persistent helper keeps one Runner alive across requests and off/on. Claude handles the conversation, tools, and streaming. The classifier runs at user-turn boundaries; stage routing handles tool steps. Routing calls use Claude's native client through Route::decide_with_client.

Where to Start Review

Start with examples/claude/hooks/register.mjs for lifecycle and controls, then examples/claude/src/main.rs for the Runner. Installation and configuration are in the same directory.

Test Plan

Passed: 3 plugin smoke tests, 4 Runner model-selection tests, plugin validation, locked release build, Clippy, and formatting checks. Live model routing was tested earlier; it was not repeated for this cleanup.
