Phase B.2 Track B.2-1 now runs its documented CI contracts: release-only syscall guards must execute, bare-metal userland and shell scripts are linted, debug/release EL0 guests and native ARM build/test/Miri results are required, and the complete classic-main policy is versioned and checked. Weekly performance and coverage remain informational.

The maintainer-approved eight-step sequence was implemented on development under Accepted ADR-0040. Each step was committed, received two fresh independent review rounds, and had verified findings corrected before proceeding. The sole cross-track prerequisite T-037 and optional ARM task T-036 are included. PR #47's already-merged kickoff ancestry is incorporated without changing the reviewed tree or discarding reviewed commit SHAs.

Step Task Delivered behavior
1 T-037 Bare-metal cfg requires architecture and target OS; native ARM workspace/Miri restored
2 T-033 Validated SMP overrides/precedence and timeout/usage handling
3 T-031 ShellCheck and bare-metal userland clippy, with rejection controls
4 T-030 Release build/lint/tests, both named syscall guards, debug perf-bench build/lint
5 T-032 HAL/BSP panic-family denies, justified boot exceptions and reviewed unmap audit amendment
6 T-034 Real debug/release QEMU EL0 smoke, profile/fault checks and diagnostics; pipeline preserves failure
7 T-036 Native Linux ARM check/clippy/test/Miri, isolated cfg rejection and architecture-separated caches
8 T-035 Informational 20-run performance workflow; full-policy export/check and explicit local additive-only apply

Full step reviews and source-bound evidence are linked from the implementation map. Security-sensitive steps have separate security reports. Historical verdicts and failed hosted evidence are retained, including the logging-pipeline rejection fix and the subsequently observed ARM compiler-diagnostic race.

The supplied systematic PR review was reconciled in two follow-up steps, each with two additional fresh independent rounds. Tooling now requires an identical clean ARM command before its private six-cfg regression, refuses empty diagnostics, rejects QEMU's actual Undefined Instruction token, retains valid measurements when optional metadata fails, minimizes normal override-path/hostname metadata, and omits installed binaries from caches. A complete actual REST response fixture covers the observed shape while unsupported policy stays fail-closed. Current guide examples, timing/cache/setup claims, historical role mappings and protection caveats are aligned. Generated p99 guidance is corrected without rewriting captured measurements. The full finding dispositions distinguish verified fixes from refuted or qualified claims.

Validation includes local fmt, host/kernel clippy, debug/release/perf builds, 366 debug host tests, 356 release host tests and native ARM Miri (two ignored HAL doctests), both named release-only guards, real debug/release EL0 guests, 59 QEMU tooling cases, 29 policy methods, seven performance methods, 11 ARM assertion methods, and 20 synthetic plus three actual private guest controls. Follow-up policy/performance/ARM suites pass normally and optimized; independent native Apple ARM clean/negative probes and adversarial checks also pass. Host assurance tooling does not certify the existing assembly contract.

The latest 20-sample hosted performance run measures clean full source 646ba33052632d5afda1e206007ed9bc334e8e3a: 20 valid/0 failed, 101 s harness wall, p10/p50/p90 8.497/9.820/12.572 ms recomputed from raw samples. Its exact-byte snapshot contains the corrected p99 explanation. Earlier snapshots retain their measured source and original bytes, with the historical interpretation caveat in the reconciliation. QEMU bands are informational and are not calibrated timing gates or cross-host regression verdicts.

Exact final head f2758e3808c0c47b105ad3e13417dbe789cefff7 passes all seven CI jobs in both PR CI and development push CI. The six exact required contexts have successful results from GitHub Actions app 15368. The complete read-only live-policy check matches the committed definition; the worktree is clean and remote development matches this head.

The preserved solo policy permits administrator bypass, requires zero approvals and disables code-owner review. App binding identifies the producer, not workflow body integrity; maintainer review of workflow/tool changes and the actual run remains necessary. Registry/build caches still carry trusted inputs. No CI administration credential, approval-policy change or new dependency is introduced. Local apply rejects unsupported policy/drift and verifies complete readback, but is not atomic compare-and-swap.

All eight tasks remain In Review for the maintainer. Existing HIGH T-038 (x2 assembly clobber) remains open in its owning track; this PR does not clear it or implement SMP. First merged-main runs and default-branch performance dispatch remain merge-dependent. Phase B.2 remains open. No merge or Done promotion is performed by automation.

The existing CodeRabbit conversation on the preserved historical snapshot remains for maintainer resolution. Its p99 issue is corrected in the generator, dated reconciliation and newly captured hosted report; the original captured bytes remain intact.

Deny panic, unwrap and expect in the HAL and BSP, retaining ten function-scoped reasoned exceptions for trusted boot/demo/benchmark invariants and deliberate fatal aborts. Exercise both exact clippy aliases with isolated None-unwrap regressions locally and in CI.

Unmap reuses the existing typed root for an ignored physical-frame argument instead of constructing and unwrapping a dummy frame. The pull request updates build and lint rules, QEMU tooling, CI gates, performance reporting, and branch-protection management. It also narrows bare-metal compilation guards and updates Phase B.2 policy, task, review, and roadmap records.

Changes

Phase B.2-1 implementation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Target boundaries and lint gates
hal/src/lib.rs, bsp-qemu-virt/..., userland/..., kernel/...
HAL and BSP Clippy rules deny panic-family operations by default, with scoped allowances. Userland bare-metal code and linker arguments require AArch64 with target OS none. The BSP unmap call passes the address-space root frame.
QEMU tooling and smoke checks
.cargo/config.toml, tools/run-qemu.sh, tools/smoke.sh, tools/test-qemu-tooling.sh, tools/test-smoke-gates.*, docs/guides/run-under-qemu.md
Release build and run aliases are added. QEMU helpers accept a core count, and smoke checks validate profile-specific output and reject fault traces. Test scripts cover argument handling and smoke cases.
CI jobs and regression probes
.github/workflows/ci.yml, tools/test-ci-gates.sh, tools/test-arm-host-probe.py
CI adds release, lint, regression-probe, QEMU smoke, and native ARM64 workspace checks. Cache keys include runner architecture.
Performance reporting
.github/workflows/performance.yml, tools/perf-harness.sh, tools/test-perf-harness.py, docs/analysis/reports/*
A scheduled and manually triggered workflow runs 20 debug measurements. The harness records worktree and toolchain metadata, and baseline reports document measurement methods and results.
Branch-protection policy management
.github/branch-protection/main.json, tools/branch-protection.py, tools/test-branch-protection.py, tools/fixtures/*
A versioned classic branch-protection policy and CLI are added. The CLI validates policy and check-run evidence, restricts updates to additive status checks, and verifies policy after writes. Offline tests cover validation and update cases.
Decision, task, review, and roadmap records
docs/decisions/..., docs/analysis/..., docs/roadmap/..., docs/standards/..., docs/guides/...
ADR-0040, task status, gate definitions, review records, standards, guides, and roadmap records are updated to document the implementation and its recorded status.

* Refactor code structure for improved readability and maintainability

* docs: update Phase B.2 documentation for clarity and accuracy

* docs: clarify documentation requirements for CI script checks and decision recording

* docs(roadmap): reconcile Track B.2-1 implementation contracts

Review existing CI, source and governance before implementation. Propose concrete cadence, ARM verification and merge-policy choices in ADR-0040; retain Proposed status for maintainer approval.

Refs: ADR-0040
Code-Review: docs/analysis/reviews/code-reviews/2026-10-11-phase-b2-track1-preflight.md

* docs(ci): include release smoke in Track B.2-1 plan

Correct the source-inaccurate release smoke deferral and the remaining exit-accounting claim found by independent preflight review. Align task dependencies with the chosen protection policy and record schedule limitations and release boot evidence.

Refs: ADR-0040

* docs(ci): resolve final Track B.2-1 preflight findings

Qualify baseline soundness claims and require a matching debug userland image before perf-bench compilation. Record both fresh second-round approvals and the independently inspected debug and release boot baselines.

Refs: ADR-0040

* docs(roadmap): reconcile phase targets before ADR acceptance

Resolve the supplied approval-review findings M1 and L1-L4. Preserve historical supersession records, clarify pre-Acceptance status labels, and justify the existing direct Phase D gate without changing its scope.

Refs: ADR-0040

* docs(adr): resolve approval findings before acceptance

Reconcile the current ADR ledgers, preserve the Proposed lifecycle history, and correct coverage region/line labels. Record the independent approval audit and reproduced baseline failures without claiming implementation or task completion.

Refs: ADR-0040

* docs(adr): accept ADR-0040 and Track B.2-1 policy

Record the maintainer approval after resolving the supplied review findings, independently verifying the revised proposal, and rereading the full ADR. Synchronize live pointers and settle T-035/T-036 design choices as Ready without claiming implementation or Done promotion.

Refs: ADR-0040

* fix(userspace): restrict syscall shims to bare metal

ARM hosts matched the architecture-only gates and selected the Tyrne entry, panic handler and linker script. Require target OS none consistently so workspace tooling uses host stubs. Keep the existing SVC assembly and bare-metal image bytes unchanged; append the compilation-boundary audit amendment. Native ARM workspace checks and Miri now pass, with 366 tests and unchanged debug image SHA-256.

Audit: UNSAFE-2026-0033

* docs(userspace): reconcile T-037 review records

Correct the two verified lifecycle findings from the first independent
code review and synchronize the live task, review and development-branch
pointers. Preserve the opening snapshot and historical roadmap records.
Record the separate security checklist and audit approval specifically
for target selection; the unchanged x2 defect remains owned by T-038.
The second fresh code/security round remains pending.

* docs(userspace): record second T-037 review round

Record fresh code and security approvals of the implementation and
first-round corrections. No new finding requires a source fix. Preserve
both reviewers' exact verification scopes and the T-038 exclusion.
T-037 stays In Review; its implementation gates and two fresh rounds now

Refs: ADR-0040

* docs(standards): enforce userland and shell lint gates

Apply the Accepted ADR-0040 policy, document exact commands and negative probes, and record T-031 local verification. Hosted results and both fresh review rounds remain pending.

Refs: ADR-0040

* fix(ci): support hosted ShellCheck trap analysis

ShellCheck 0.9.0 reports the indirect cleanup callback as SC2317 rather than 0.11.0's SC2329. Scope both measured false-positive suppressions to that function with its trap reason.

* fix(bsp-qemu-virt): enforce panic-family lint boundaries

Literal unmap=true leaves descriptor access, ownership, lifetime and TLB obligations unchanged. A lint allowance on this non-init MMU path adds no benefit; preserve the original audit and append the changed reasoning for distinct security review.

Refs: ADR-0040, ADR-0043, T-056

* fix(tooling): isolate GFM table cell navigation

Parse rendered cells independently with document-wide references and
physical source lines. Preserve raw surplus-cell metadata, pipe escapes
and valid block termination with tests-first and dual-Python evidence.

Refs: ADR-0040, ADR-0043, T-056

Refs: ADR-0040, ADR-0043, T-056

* fix(tooling): bound failed emphasis searches and URI controls

Remember failed opener prefixes per closer class while preserving source-based emphasis semantics. Reject raw DEL in angle URI bodies and retain ordinary navigation parsing for invalid candidates.

Add tests-first real/phantom, embedded-link and resource regressions. Preserve original oracle QA and immutable source/evidence boundaries; actual committed-fix reviews remain pending.

Refs: ADR-0040, ADR-0043, T-056

Extract cached text and Markdown reads for the remaining metadata families,
with guarded source enumeration and original visible-label/image provenance.
Keep links-only reports and default CLI behavior compatible. Add eleven
reader and label contract fixtures, including filename-less directory errors,
report-view isolation and exact generated-output boundaries.

All 160 fixtures pass on Python 3.9 and 3.13, with source-bound syntax and
matching corpus/cwd checks. This is an internal Step 12 foundation commit;
remaining families, required CI, full-step reviews and hosted evidence remain
pending. T-056 stays In Progress with all full-task criteria unchecked.

Refs: ADR-0040, ADR-0043, T-056

normalize lifecycle states and validate completion dates with the reviewed
exact legacy baseline. Reconcile ADR membership and authoritative heading,
status and complete Date fields without treating filename slugs as titles.

Twenty-two isolated fixtures pass on Python 3.9 and 3.13, with matching actual
task/ADR corpus results and retained before/after controls for reference labels,
date tokens and literal code titles. Keep the existing parser/reader/CLI bytes
unchanged; remaining families, CLI/required CI, full-Step12 fresh reviews and
hosted evidence remain pending. T-056 stays In Progress.

processing instructions, declarations and cross-name raw-tag closing lines.
Avoid copying distant suffixes when rejecting unsupported source redirections.

Retain both tests-first increments and 161 navigation/115 metadata passes on
Python 3.9 and 3.13. Final corpus inputs are stable with zero findings. Preserve
the earlier successful hosted checkpoint separately from these newer repairs.
Same-reviewer R1 verification and different fresh R2 remain pending.

Refs: ADR-0040, ADR-0043

* fix(tooling): require complete custom HTML block tags

Separate strict type 7 block recognition from browser-style HTML navigation
and type 6 structural prefixes. Malformed attributes must not suppress real
Markdown destinations or standards opening fences.

Preserve both tests-first drafts and expanded link/fence/live regressions.
161 navigation and 118 metadata methods pass on Python 3.9 and 3.13; both final
corpus commands report zero findings with stable inputs. Keep prior hosted
checkpoints bound to their original commits. Same-round review remains pending.

Refs: ADR-0013, ADR-0040, ADR-0042, ADR-0043, T-045, T-046, T-047, T-048, T-049, T-050, T-051, T-052, T-053, T-054, T-055, T-056

* docs(analysis): correct root readme evidence links

Fix SECURITY-R1-01 by directing both README evidence rows to the repository root. Independently compare all 58 displayed destinations with the disposition ledger; retain the two original mismatches and zero-mismatch corrected checks.

Refs: ADR-0040, ADR-0043, T-050

* docs(analysis): code-review phase b2-2 integration

Record both fresh integrated code and security rounds, the verified README-target correction and complete original evidence. Reconcile all six entry documents and the approved plan with implementation complete, twelve tasks In Review and maintainer wording/merge gates retained.

* docs(adr): propose ADR-0044 — review evidence retention

Record the approved archive and bounded history migration plan, verified recovery baseline and existing-task maintenance criteria. Acceptance follows a deliberate reread and fresh independent reviews.

Refs: ADR-0044, ADR-0043, ADR-0025

* docs(adr): keep retention decision inside the index table

Preserve table continuity so the ADR metadata join includes the new Proposed record.

Refs: ADR-0044

* docs(adr): clarify evidence hosting before retention acceptance

Resolve GR1-C01 and INT-R1-01 with an explicit archival release profile and grounded post-Acceptance standard reconciliation. Preserve product release gates and signing requirements.

Refs: ADR-0044, ADR-0043

* docs(analysis): code-review pr49 evidence governance

Preserve both fresh complementary rounds and committed-fix verification without overwriting initial verdicts. Close the sole Medium clarification; archival execution remains pending.

Refs: ADR-0044, ADR-0043, ADR-0025

* docs(adr): accept ADR-0044 evidence retention policy

Accept the maintainer-approved policy after deliberate reread, both fresh complementary rounds and verified closure of the release-scope clarification. Implementation follows this decision boundary.

Refs: ADR-0044, ADR-0043, ADR-0025

* docs(roadmap): start approved pr49 archival maintenance

Apply the Accepted evidence-only release scope pointer before publication and reopen T-049/T-056 with synchronized live-state inventory. Preserve the initial ADR filing as history with an append-only Acceptance record.

Refs: ADR-0044, ADR-0043, ADR-0025

* docs(analysis): archive pr49 evidence and reconcile citations

Retain all payloads and old source in a verified immutable release, preserve exact historical identities and migrate 348 links with 46 byte-exact reversal checks. Record public recovery, bounded local rewrite and the reproducible generator correction; remote development remains untouched.

Refs: ADR-0044, ADR-0043, ADR-0025

* docs(roadmap): record the completed local evidence migration

Resolve MRC1-01 by distinguishing verified immutable archival and local migration from pending reviews, prevention, lease publication and hosted gates. Preserve the original migration proof at its actual source.

Refs: ADR-0044, ADR-0043

* docs(analysis): code-review pr49 archive and citation migration

Preserve both fresh complementary rounds and the verified Low live-pointer correction. Return T-049 to In Review while T-056 prevention, exact remote lease and final hosted validation remain active.

Refs: ADR-0044, ADR-0043, ADR-0025

* docs(tooling): scope the approved footprint enforcement

Pin index and complete-history verification with offline fail-closed inputs and meaningful temporary Git fixtures. Clarify release-pointer timing against the already-approved step-six guidance order.

Refs: ADR-0044, ADR-0043

* ci(tooling): enforce review evidence storage bounds

Check the index and complete HEAD history with offline Git fixtures, reject hidden or incomplete ancestry, and document the accepted retention contract in the existing required lint job.

Refs: ADR-0043, ADR-0044

* fix(tooling): classify unresolved footprint roots

Convert Python 3.9 symlink-loop resolution failures into the documented input error. A real CLI regression fails before the repair and passes with all22 fixtures on both supported runtimes.

Refs: ADR-0044

* fix(tooling): read original ancestry for footprint checks

Ignore derived commit-graph metadata so an inconsistent cache cannot hide oversized historical artifacts. A real cache regression fails on both supported runtimes before the repair; all23 footprint methods now pass.

Refs: ADR-0044

* docs(analysis): code-review pr49 footprint prevention

Preserve all eight complete source-bound reports and verified digests. Both fresh complementary rounds close the Low input error and Medium cache-ancestry groups with actual committed-fix verification; final hosted publication remains gated.

Refs: ADR-0013, ADR-0043, ADR-0044
