Bump Rust toolchain pin from 1.97.1 to 1.98.1 - #47
Conversation
The pin previously lived only as prose (CLAUDE.md's `cargo +1.97.1` build commands, docs/WASM-INTEGRATION.md, scripts/build-graph-wasm.sh's RUST_TOOLCHAIN default) and in the two Dockerfiles' ARG RUST_VERSION — this repo has no .github/workflows to carry a pin either. Added rust-toolchain.toml (mirroring lance-graph's shape: channel + components + an append-only bump log) so a bare `cargo` in this checkout now resolves to the reviewed toolchain directly, closing the exact drift shape that let the prose pin fall behind the sibling repos. 1.98's only delta in this workspace: two `clippy::chunks_exact_to_as_chunks` findings (new in 1.98, default-on STYLE group), both in a2ui-graph test code, fixed to `.as_chunks::<N>().0`. No `#![allow]`/`#![expect]` list carried the removed `clippy::from_iter_instead_of_collect`. Verified on the real 1.98.1 toolchain: `cargo test` (79 tests, 0 failed), `cargo clippy --all-targets -- -D warnings` (clean), `cargo fmt --check` (clean). 📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe repository now pins Rust 1.98.1, updates related build documentation and scripts, and replaces two byte-slice test iterations with fixed-size chunk processing. ChangesRust toolchain alignment
Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to The Rust 1.98.1 alignment is validated, but the documented one-off WASM override currently names an unavailable toolchain, so users following that example cannot complete a preview build until the example is corrected. This repo has never had any CI — .github/workflows/ did not exist, and PR #47's only check is Cursor Bugbot. Add .github/workflows/lint.yml with three jobs (format, clippy, test) using actions-rust-lang/setup-rust-toolchain, which reads rust-toolchain.toml directly so the pinned version stays in exactly one place. All of this repo's OGAR dependencies (ogar-a2ui-frame, ogar-render-askama, ogar-encryption, ogar-vocab) are git deps pinned to branch = "main", per Cargo.toml's own comment ("this repo has no sibling checkout ... and no CI to arrange one") — so no sibling checkout step is needed; cargo fetches them directly in the CI runner. Also update CLAUDE.md's three build-gate lines to drop the explicit `cargo +1.97.1 ...` prefix (stale since the 1.98.1 bump, and a second source of truth for the toolchain version regardless of which number it names) — a bare `cargo` in this checkout already resolves to the pin in rust-toolchain.toml. Use an available toolchain in the override example.
The 1.99.0 channel is unavailable, so RUST_TOOLCHAIN=1.99 can fail in both the target check and cargo "+$TOOLCHAIN". Use RUST_TOOLCHAIN=beta for a preview build.
