lomux gets the parts that made it feel like a demo: images, trim, subtitles, two pass, filename templating, and a menu bar. plus 29 new presets and 6 real bug fixes.

new

  • image sequences (PNG/JPEG/TIFF/BMP), single image conversion, single frame grabs
  • per file trim with in/out points; progress tracks the trimmed range, not the source
  • loudness normalization (EBU R128 via loudnorm)
  • subtitles: burn-in or soft-mux, with libass capability detection so it fails up front instead of halfway
  • two pass VBR for H.264/H.265/VP8/VP9
  • output filename templating ({artist} - {title}, {album} {year} {genre} {track} {preset} {index} {ext})
  • preset import/export as JSON, persisted between sessions
  • 29 new presets (54 total): vimeo, twitch VOD, youTube shorts, facebook/linkedIn, webm VP9, podcast/audiobook, AIFF, AC-3, full ProRes ladder, DNxHR LB/SQ/HQ/HQX, MXF OP1a
  • per preset audio channel and sample rate control
  • menu bar (LoMux / File / View / Help) with About listing detected tool paths; native system menu on macOS, in window egui bar elsewhere
  • macOS ships a real lomux.app bundle

fixes

  • web GIF preset wrote an empty file; it stripped video instead of encoding it. now a proper palette filter chain
  • non ASCII filenames crashed on sight (byte sliced truncation, release build aborts on panic)
  • cancelled or failed encodes left a partial output file behind
  • yt-dlp progress was never wired up; the bar sat at zero for the whole download
  • youtube temp files leaked, and their yt__ prefix leaked into output names
  • ProRes 422 was silently encoding ProRes 422 HQ

changes

  • window title is just lomux; version moved to About
  • curated theme colors now fixed; customization lives in its own persistent slot
  • relicensed MIT (was GPL-3.0)

testing
cargo test --release — 64 tests pass. UI, threading, yt-dlp verified manually.
