Not Agnostic, looking for Logs inside Apple Library on Ubuntu 24.04

Installs and runs, wonderful interface.

But its created on Apple and looking for logs inside /home//Library/Logs/com.beads.manager/beads.log which would be an Apple OS

Also, although its detecting my beads projects, its not finding issues, and I can't see what is going on because of lack of logs. I can only guess without looking at the source code, that its having issues running the bd binary, perhaps you hardcoded the path?

Hi @ubuntupunk — thanks for reporting this, and glad you like the interface!

You're absolutely right: the log path was hardcoded to macOS's ~/Library/Logs/ convention. Since we develop exclusively on macOS, cross-platform issues like this tend to slip through — especially when there's little feedback from users on other platforms. So reports like yours are genuinely valuable.

The fix: We've updated get_log_path() to use platform-aware paths — on Linux it now resolves to ~/.local/share/com.beads.manager/logs/beads.log (following XDG conventions), which matches where the Tauri log plugin actually writes. We also fixed get_extended_path() to use the correct PATH separator and environment variables on Windows.

Regarding the bd binary path: the app already includes ~/.local/bin in its search path, so your bd installation should be found. The real issue was the chicken-and-egg problem — no logs meant no way to diagnose what was happening.

The fix is in release v1.24.3.

Some context on this project: Beads Task Issue Tracker was born out of my personal learning journey into the AI ecosystem — starting with beads (bd) as the entry point. It reflects that exploration: experimenting with AI-assisted development, discovering what works, hitting walls, iterating. It was never meant to be a polished product — it was the lab notebook of that journey.
