Agent builders need calendar access, and calsdk had no way to plug into MCP clients or agent frameworks.
@cal-sdk/mcp (new package)
stdio MCP server on the official SDK v2: list_calendars, list_events, find_free_time, create_event, update_event, delete_event.
Accounts come from env vars (Google, Outlook, iCloud, CalDAV). Refresh tokens are traded for access tokens and cached until a minute before expiry; concurrent calls share one refresh.
npx -y @cal-sdk/mcp --demo runs on two in-memory calendars.
createCalendarServer(accounts) is exported for self-hosting. Everything except cli.ts stays edge-safe (Biome's process ban is lifted for that one file).
server.json and mcpName for the official MCP registry.
Docs and example
New guides: MCP server (client setup, how to get each token) and AI SDK tools.
examples/ai-agent: AI SDK 7 agent with three calsdk tools, on a mock calendar unless GOOGLE_ACCESS_TOKEN is set.
Long inline code now wraps on phones across all docs (it was clipping the OAuth Playground URL); the blog-only rule this replaces is removed.
Verified
Tests over an in-memory MCP transport (create and list, free time across two accounts, errors returned as isError) and for token refresh.
Built CLI driven over stdio: initialize, tools/list, find_free_time in demo mode; no-config run prints setup help and exits 1.
AI SDK tools executed against the mock (free slots, booking, listing). Not run against a live model here (no API key on this machine).
Lint, typecheck, tests, full build, docs build. Screenshots checked at 390px and 1440px with no overflow.

Summary
Account setup and token refresh packages/mcp/src/accounts.ts, packages/mcp/src/refreshing-token.ts, packages/mcp/src/server.test.ts
Environment variables configure Google, Microsoft, iCloud, and CalDAV accounts. Google and Microsoft can use cached, refreshed access tokens. Demo mode supplies in-memory calendars. Tests cover token reuse and refresh errors.
Calendar server tools packages/mcp/src/server.ts, packages/mcp/src/server.test.ts
The MCP server registers tools for listing calendars and events, finding free time, and creating, updating, and deleting events. Tests cover tool calls and a missing-event error.
The package exposes its server and account helpers, defines build and CLI entry points, and documents provider configuration and MCP client setup. The CLI connects over stdio and reports an error when no accounts are configured.

Summary
Tool definitions and usage guide apps/web/content/docs/guides/ai-sdk.mdx, apps/web/content/docs/guides/meta.json, README.md
The guide defines tools for listing events, finding free time, and creating events. It shows an Anthropic agent setup and describes provider options, time zones, attendee confirmation, and read-only use.
The example uses Google Calendar when GOOGLE_ACCESS_TOKEN is set and an in-memory calendar otherwise. It runs an agent with a six-step limit and logs tool calls and the response.
Inline code in prose can wrap at widths up to 639px. The existing no-wrap rule applies from 640px upward, and the article-specific wrapping selector is removed.

Merge Risk: Moderate · previous review 879a4
Resolve the calendar-selection, search-bound, and cancellation issues before merging: they can produce misleading availability, stall requests, or create events after cancellation. Add an expiry step and a second grant to the refresh test.
The test named refreshes once for concurrent calls and reuses the token until it expires never moves the clock past expiresAt. It also never makes a second grant, so it does not check the rotated refresh token. A token getter that never expires, or one that keeps sending the original refresh token, still passes. Nothing else in packages/mcp/src covers either case.
Advance the clock past the expiry boundary with vi.useFakeTimers() and vi.setSystemTime(), then call token() again. Assert that fetch runs a second time and that the second grant request includes refresh_token: 'rotated'.

Review comments at @apps/web/content/docs/guides/ai-sdk.mdx:
- Around line 88-89: Update the date in the guide’s calendar instructions to use
the user’s time zone instead of the server’s local time zone, following the
existing “Time zones” guidance. Ensure the prompt also provides the user’s time
zone to the assistant so it can resolve “tomorrow” correctly.
- Around line 22-30: Update the listEvents tool in calendarTools to accept an
optional pageToken and pass it to the provider’s listEvents call. Return
nextPageToken alongside the mapped events, and clarify in the tool description
that the model should request subsequent pages using the returned token.
Review comments at @apps/web/content/docs/guides/mcp.mdx:
- Line 6: Update the MCP guide introduction and the matching description in the
package README to state that free-time searches check the primary calendar of
each account, not all calendars; preserve the surrounding wording.
- Line 25: Update the account-argument description in the guide text near
find_free_time: clarify that other tools take a top-level account, while
find_free_time accepts a calendars array with an account and optional
calendarIds for each entry. Preserve its all-accounts-by-default behavior and
existing failure behavior when an account cannot be read.
Review comments at @examples/ai-agent/src/index.ts:
- Around line 25-30: Update the ai-agent listEvents tool to retrieve events
across pages using the existing pagination support, such as iterateEvents,
rather than returning only the first page. Cap the collected results at 100 and
return a truncated flag that is true when additional events are omitted and
false when all events are returned.
- Around line 79-80: Update the tomorrow calculation near timeZone in the mock
to derive today’s calendar date in Europe/Berlin, then advance that date by one
calendar day. Avoid deriving the result from the UTC date or adding a fixed
24-hour duration, so the seeded busy events consistently fall on Berlin’s next
day.
- Line 104: Update the instructions template to derive the current date using
the Europe/Berlin time zone specified by timeZone, rather than the host-local
date from toDateString(). Preserve the existing calendar instructions and
time-zone declaration.
Review comments at @packages/mcp/src/accounts.ts:
- Around line 29-32: Update the Google and Microsoft access-token fallbacks in
the account setup flow to use truthy fallback behavior, so an empty access-token
environment variable triggers refresh-token lookup. Preserve the existing
provider setup logic for non-empty tokens.
Review comments at @packages/mcp/src/refreshing-token.ts:
- Around line 36-37: Update the fetchToken request in the token refresh flow to
use an abort signal that enforces a finite deadline and propagates client
cancellation when available. Ensure an aborted request settles the refresh so
pending callers do not remain blocked on a stalled token endpoint.
Review comments at @packages/mcp/src/server.ts:
- Line 237: Remove the idempotentHint annotation from the update_event tool
definition so it no longer advertises retries as safe; leave the other tool
annotations and behavior unchanged.
- Line 122: Update the account selection in list_calendars to distinguish an
omitted account from an empty-string account key. Use the undefined check when
selecting between names and the specified account, preserving the empty key as
the selected account.
- Around line 217-218: Update the create_event callback to accept its request
context and pass ctx.mcpReq.signal to createEvent as abortSignal. Preserve the
existing calendar and options arguments so cancellation can propagate through
the pending call before the provider write.
- Around line 198-205: Move the slot limit from the post-search slice in the MCP
handler into the findFreeTime search so it stops accumulating results once
maxSlots are reached. Preserve totalSlots as an accurate count by counting
matches without storing them, or explicitly document and expose it as a lower
bound if the search stops early.
- Around line 167-168: Update the `find_free_time` schema in the server tool
definition so that, when `calendars` is provided, it requires at least one
entry, and each provided `calendarIds` array requires at least one ID. Keep both
fields optional as currently defined.

@cal-sdk/mcp exposes list_calendars, list_events, find_free_time,
create_event, update_event and delete_event over stdio for Google,
Outlook, iCloud and CalDAV accounts configured with environment
variables, refreshing OAuth tokens as they expire. --demo runs on
in-memory calendars.
Also adds docs for the MCP server and for AI SDK tools, an AI SDK
agent example, and wraps long inline code on phones across the docs.
Nitpick (refresh test never passes expiry): fixed in f220e06. The test now advances the clock past the token's renewal point and checks a second grant is sent with the rotated refresh token.
Docstring coverage warning: skipped. The exported functions already have doc comments; the repo documents behavior and constraints rather than adding docstrings to every internal helper.
