Verso is the reference implementation of Versia, a federation protocol for social media. It also implements the Mastodon client API, so it works with the apps people already use.
Note
Verso is in early development and isn't ready for production yet.
- Federates over Versia 0.6: statuses, follows, shares, reactions and custom emoji
- Works with Mastodon apps, including streaming, notifications and Web Push (what's supported)
- Searches statuses, accounts and hashtags
- Logs users in through OpenID Connect
- Stores media on disk or in any S3-compatible service
- Runs on PostgreSQL or SQLite
- Scales out by running web nodes and job workers separately
Installing Verso covers NixOS, the container image and the package, and Configuring covers the settings most instances change. To run it locally for development, see Running Verso locally.
The docs cover running an instance, the client API and how Verso works, with guides to common changes such as adding a route or a table. CONTRIBUTING.md covers setup, everyday commands and what we look for in a pull request.
