chore(scripts): teach add-spdx-headers.sh about markdown files - #340
Conversation
Add *.md to the discovery glob and a frontmatter-aware HTML-comment header case, so AGENTS.md-style documents and pi-rules .github/instructions rule files can be licensed with the same tooling as the source files. The markdown case inserts the header after the YAML frontmatter closing delimiter when a file leads with frontmatter: rule files must keep their frontmatter at position zero or tooling downstream (pi-rules) stops recognizing globs and the rule never injects again. Unterminated frontmatter falls back to plain-markdown handling. Tested against: frontmatter rule file, plain markdown, already headered file (skip), unterminated frontmatter, nested tree. 📝 SummarySummary by CodeRabbit
WalkthroughThe SPDX header script now processes Markdown files. It writes headers as HTML comments and preserves leading YAML frontmatter by inserting the headers after its closing delimiter. ChangesMarkdown SPDX header support
Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to Markdown files with CRLF YAML frontmatter can receive SPDX headers before the frontmatter, potentially breaking metadata parsing. - Around line 57-58: Update the frontmatter delimiter checks in
add-spdx-headers.sh to strip trailing carriage returns before comparing lines,
including the initial head check and the awk search for the closing delimiter,
so CRLF Markdown files keep the SPDX header outside frontmatter.

scripts/add-spdx-headers.shwith Markdown support (*.mdadded to the discovery glob, plus an HTML-comment header case), so documents that follow the repo's AGENTS.md header convention — including the pi-rules.github/instructionsrule files — can be licensed with the same tooling as the source files instead of by hand.Problem
The script covers
.rs/.typ/.dart/.sh/.feature/.yaml/.ymlbut not.md, although parts of the docs tree (AGENTS.md files, ADRs, issue notes) carry SPDX headers. The rule files from #339 needed manual header insertion because of this gap.Solution
*.mdin thefindDiscovery (recursive, per-directory opt-in as before — the tool is never run repo-wide by CI).*.instructions.md) get the header inserted after the closing---delimiter. A header at position zero would degrade the frontmatter to plain body text downstream — a pi-rules rule would lose its glob scope and never inject again. Unterminated frontmatter (a lone leading---, e.g. a horizontal rule) falls back to plain-markdown handling.SPDX-License-Identifiergrep.Testing
