Summary

  • Commit a packages.lock.json file for each project. Restore runs in locked mode, so the build fails when a lock file is stale.
  • Use -p:RuntimeIdentifier instead of -r for the Makefile publishes. This keeps the lock files stable across RID specific restore runs.
  • Activate RestoreLockedMode in CI and in make builds.
  • Add the restore and restore-update make targets.
  • Keep Avalonia.Diagnostics out of release output with a conditional asset exclude. The reference stays unconditional, so the restore graph stays equal for all configurations.
  • Give the code generator project no lock file. Its restore runs with a variable runtime set.
  • Describe the workflow in README.md, CONTRIBUTING.md, and AGENTS.md.

Notes

  • The code generator loads as an analyzer. RuntimeIdentifiers on the generator project produce RID specific output paths and break the analyzer load (CS8034). Directory.Build.props excludes the project from that property.
  • Renovate updates the lock files on package version bumps. No renovate config change is necessary.
  • Publish behavior is unchanged. Build output paths and the dist/ layout stay the same.

Checks

  • make restore passes in locked mode.
  • make test passes. 19 of 19 tests pass.
  • make linux-build-binary builds both Linux RIDs. No lock file change.
  • Locked mode publishes for linux-x64 and linux-arm64 pass with no lock file change.

AI assistance was used for this change. The commit carries a Co-Authored-By trailer.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Added guidance for maintaining dependency locks, updating them after dependency changes, and verifying that automated builds use current locks.
  • Build Improvements
    • Added locked dependency restores and commands to verify or update dependency locks.
    • Added platform-specific runtime settings for Linux, macOS, and Windows.
  • Developer Tools
    • Made Avalonia diagnostics available in Debug builds.

Commit a packages.lock.json file for each project. The code generator project keeps no lock file, because its restore runs with a variable runtime set.

Restore runs in locked mode in CI and in make builds. The build fails when a lock file does not match the project dependencies. Use make restore-update to update the lock files after a change to a dependency.

📝 Walkthrough

The repository now configures NuGet lock-file generation and locked restores, adds restore and restore-update Makefile targets, and records dependency graphs for projects. Documentation describes the lock-file policy and update process. The Dockerfile’s OCI license label also changes.

Changes: Package lock management

Layer / File(s) Summary
Configure locked restores and update workflow
Directory.Build.props, Makefile, UniLaunch.CodeGenerator/UniLaunch.CodeGenerator.csproj, AGENTS.md, CONTRIBUTING.md, README.md
Shared MSBuild settings enable lock-file generation and enable locked restores in CI. Makefile targets restore in locked mode or reevaluate package locks. Publish commands pass the runtime identifier through -p:RuntimeIdentifier. The code generator disables lock-file generation. Repository guidance describes the lock-file policy and update commands.
Add project lock graphs
UniLaunch.Core.Tests/packages.lock.json, UniLaunch.Core/packages.lock.json, UniLaunch.Linux.Tests/packages.lock.json, UniLaunch.Linux/packages.lock.json, UniLaunch.MacOS/packages.lock.json, UniLaunch.UI/UniLaunch.UI.csproj, UniLaunch.UI/packages.lock.json, UniLaunch.UIDesigner/packages.lock.json, UniLaunch.Windows/packages.lock.json, Platform.targets, .ort.yml
Lock files record resolved package dependencies and runtime-specific entries for the listed projects. The UI project now references Avalonia.Diagnostics in every configuration and excludes its package assets outside Debug. Platform.targets pins Microsoft.NET.ILLink.Tasks to version 10.0.13 with private package assets. .ort.yml uses a colon-separated package curation ID.

Layer / File(s) Summary
Update OCI license label
ConnectivityCheckServer/Dockerfile
The Dockerfile changes the OCI license label from GNU GPL v3 to Apache-2.0.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~12 minutes

Change: Other

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 97198

The image label matches Apache-2.0, but ORT ignores the BSD-3-Clause curation for Avalonia.Angle.Windows.Natives. This is a bounded license-reporting risk; correct the identifier or explicitly accept the gap before merging.

  • observed — Modified behavior in AGENTS.md: Added package lock-file guidance covering which projects commit lock files, CI’s locked-mode stale-file failure, and the commands for updating and verifying locks.
  • observed — Modified behavior in CONTRIBUTING.md: Adds dependency and lock-file guidance, including the code generator exception, CI’s failure condition for stale lock files, and the steps to update and commit lock files.
  • observed — Modified behavior in Directory.Build.props: Adds shared MSBuild properties to generate package lock files, use the listed runtime identifiers for projects other than UniLaunch.CodeGenerator, and enable locked restore when CI equals true.
  • observed — Modified behavior in Makefile: Adds restore, which restores UniLaunch.sln in locked mode, and restore-update, which restores with --force-evaluate.

…the SDK version

The SDK picks the IL Link version per SDK patch. CI used a newer SDK, so locked mode restore failed with NU1004. An explicit pin makes the restore graph equal for all SDK versions.

Fix for the first CI failure:

Root cause. PublishSingleFile in Platform.targets activates the single file analyzer. The SDK then adds Microsoft.NET.ILLink.Tasks to the restore graph and picks the version per SDK patch. The commit lock files used SDK 10.0.102 (IL Link 10.0.2). CI used a newer SDK (IL Link 10.0.13). Locked mode restore failed with NU1004.

Fix. Commit 1cc5252 adds an explicit pin for Microsoft.NET.ILLink.Tasks in Platform.targets. The explicit pin replaces the SDK owned version. NuGet now resolves the same version on every machine. The three platform lock files record the pinned version.

Checks. make restore, make test (19 of 19), and a locked publish for linux-x64 pass. The lock files show no change after the locked publish.

License Compliance — ✅ passed

I am using ORT to check for license compliance for added / modified library code. This helps adhering to license terms.

The id lacked the namespace, so the BSD-3-Clause curation never matched.

NOTICE was scanned as part of the project, so every generated NOTICE fed its own
