Lab 4 requires Application Insights connection string, but Terraform does not appear to provision Application Insights

Hello

While following Lab 4 - Configure AD Group, App Insights Connection String & Key Vault, I encountered an issue in Step 2 ("Get the Application Insights Connection String").
The lab documentation states that:
AKS, Key Vault, and Application Insights are provisioned by Terraform in Lab 2.
However, after reviewing the Terraform code in the repository and my deployed resources, I could not find any resource that creates Application Insights.
What I checked

1. Reviewed terraform/main.tf

• Modules present:
• log-analytics
• vnet
• aks
• acr
• No Application Insights module found.

2. Reviewed terraform/modules/log-analytics/la.tf

• Creates:
• azurerm_log_analytics_workspace
• azurerm_log_analytics_solution
• No azurerm_application_insights resource found.

3. Verified Azure resources using CLI:
   az resource list
   --resource-group
   --resource-type "microsoft.insights/components"
   -o table
   No resources were returned.

4. When running the Lab 4 command:
   az monitor app-insights component show
   --app devopsjourneyapr2026ai
   -g devopsjourneyapr2026-rg
   --query connectionString
   -o tsv
   the Application Insights resource could not be located because it does not appear to exist.
   Expected Behavior
   Either:

• Terraform in Lab 2 should provision an Application Insights resource, or
• The lab should include instructions to create Application Insights manually before Step 2, or
• The documentation should clarify where the Application Insights resource is expected to come from.
  Question
  Am I missing an Application Insights creation step, or is there a discrepancy between the Lab 4 instructions and the Terraform code currently in the repository?
