Rename npm packages to the @stratum-eng scope - #372
Conversation
The @stratum scope on npm is owned by an unrelated project, so the publishable packages move to @stratum-eng: @stratum-eng/cli, @stratum-eng/agent, and the private @stratum-eng/website. Updates the package.json name fields and their lockfiles, the npx invocations and package references throughout README, AGENTS, SECURITY, LICENSING, ROADMAP, CHANGELOG, docs/, and the mirrored website guides (mirror-docs --check passes), plus the guide description in website/scripts/mirror-docs.mjs. Adds a changelog fragment. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01NecXy7o61M2kucP6XSJ9xF

PR Reviewer Guide 🔍Here are some key observations to aid the review process:

Checked the "Missing lockfile updates" finding — it's a false positive from a filtered diff, and the reviewer guide's own escape hatch applies ("if the diff view simply omits lockfile changes, disregard"). All three lockfiles are in this PR, each +2/−2, renaming both the top-level
CodeRabbit's comment on this PR names the cause explicitly: Verified the concrete failure mode the finding predicts, since that's the part that would actually bite:

MCP package to use the package name `@stratum/mcp`, matching the manifest’s

The standalone mcp/ package declared "name": "@stratum/mcp" in every revision of its manifest up to the commit that deleted it (6019308). It was never renamed and never will be, so @stratum-eng/mcp names a package that has never existed. The two released entries describing it go back to the name it actually used. The cli and agent references stay renamed: those packages still exist, under @stratum-eng, and a reader following a changelog entry to npm needs the name that resolves today. @coderabbitai review The rate limit blocked the review of 9cd2ee1, which is the commit that addresses the one finding from the 4004a2b pass. The changes-requested review from that earlier commit is still standing and is currently blocking merge. Generated by Claude Code |

Eachpackage-lock.jsonhad both its top-levelnameand itspackages[""].nameupdated, which is whatnpm installwrites, so no lockfile drift.README.md,AGENTS.md,SECURITY.md,LICENSING.md,ROADMAP.md,CHANGELOG.md,docs/CURRENT_CAPABILITIES.md,docs/REMAINING_WORK.md,docs/user-guide/{cli,faq,getting-started}.md,cli/README.md,agent/README.md, and thenpx @stratum-eng/agentusage comment inagent/src/index.ts.website/scripts/mirror-docs.mjsmoved in lockstep — that string is compared against the mirrored front matter, so changing one without the other failscheck:guides.changelog.d/npm-scope-stratum-eng.mdunder### Changed. Two judgment calls worth a reviewer's attention:
mcp/package keeps its old name in the changelog. My first commit renamed those two historical entries to@stratum-eng/mcpalong with everything else; CodeRabbit caught that, and 9cd2ee1 reverts them. That manifest declared@stratum/mcpin every revision up to the commit that deleted it (6019308) and was never renamed, so the new-scope name refers to a package that has never existed and never will.cliandagentin released sections are renamed, including the v0.2.0 entry at line 299. Rewriting released changelog sections is normally off-limits, but those packages still exist under the new scope, so a reader following an entry to npm needs the name that resolves today — where a retired name has no such reader to serve. If you would rather every released section stay verbatim as a matter of policy, say so and I'll revert line 299 too.changelog.d/npm-scope-stratum-eng.mdand those twomcpentries are now the only places the literal string@stratum/survives, both deliberately.Out of scope but noticed nearby:

Type of change
How was this verified?
All three gates were run locally on the branch head, plus the repo-specific consistency checks this change could break:
npm run typecheck— cleannpm test— 216 files passed, 3 skipped; 3768 tests passed, 28 skippednpm run lint— 434 files checked, no fixes appliednpm run release:check→ "CHANGELOG.md and changelog.d/ are well-formed; latest release is 0.2.0" (re-run after the 9cd2ee1 changelog fix)cd website && node scripts/mirror-docs.mjs --check→ "all 13 mirrors are in sync; 3 pages declared site-owned"npm ci --dry-runclean incli/,agent/, andwebsite/— that is the command that hard-errors when a manifest and its lockfile disagree onname, so it rules out lockfile drift from the rename (note theCLI & Agent PackagesCI job runsnpm install, which would not catch this)@stratum/reference outside the two intentional cases aboveThe only non-Markdown, non-manifest change is a doc comment in
agent/src/index.ts, so there is no runtime behavior to exercise beyond the suite above.Checklist
