LR-EDIT-OPTICS-PROFILE: lens profiles for compact cameras with a built-in lens - #3013
Compact cameras with a built-in lens (e.g. Canon PowerShot S5 IS) never got a lens profile from a lensfun-format database: lensfun names the lens after the camera and gives it the camera's own mount, while the file's EXIF only carries a focal/aperture range such as 6.0-72.0 mm f/2.7-3.5, which matches no lens name. Camera lookup also failed when one side included the maker in the model name (Canon PowerShot S5 IS vs PowerShot S5 IS).
Change (crates/lensdb)
find_lens falls back to find_fixed_lens when no name matches and a camera is known: candidates are profiles on the camera's mount without an mm in their names; only mounts with ≤ 4 such profiles count (interchangeable mounts are skipped); the best is the one whose calibrated focal lengths fall inside the EXIF focal range (±10 %).
find_camera strips the maker's word from model names on both sides before comparing.
New hostile-input test: infinite / NaN / huge / negative database values give finite corrections or None for any shot, and odd or very long names find nothing without panicking.
Sources: own design (lensfun XML format documentation).
Camera matching now handles model names that include the maker’s name, improving camera recognition.
Lens lookup can find a match using camera mount and EXIF focal-length information when a name match is unavailable. When focal-length information isn’t available, it can select a lens if only one eligible option remains.
Unusual names and extreme calibration values are handled without crashes or non-finite correction results.
…and focal range
lensfun names a compact camera's built-in lens after the camera and gives it
the camera's own mount, while EXIF reports only a focal / aperture range
("6.0-72.0 mm f/2.7-3.5"), so no profile was found. When the name lookup finds
nothing, take the camera's mount (only when it has at most four profiles, i.e.
not an interchangeable mount) and pick the profile whose calibrated focal
lengths lie inside the EXIF range. Camera lookups also drop the maker's word
from model names ("Canon PowerShot S5 IS" matches "PowerShot S5 IS").
Adds a hostile-number test: infinite, NaN, huge or negative database values
give finite corrections or none, and odd names find nothing without panicking.
Sources: own design (lensfun XML format documentation).

Camera matching now removes the maker’s first token before comparing model names. Lens lookup adds a fixed-lens fallback that uses camera mount and EXIF focal-range data to select a profile.

Summary
Camera model matching and input validation crates/lensdb/src/lib.rs, crates/lensdb/src/tests.rs
Camera lookup removes the maker’s first token from the EXIF and database model names before comparing them. Tests cover alternate and missing maker values, unusual lookup strings, and finite correction values for hostile numeric inputs.
When ordinary name matching fails and a camera is available, lookup can use the camera mount to find fixed-lens profiles. It limits the candidate set and selects by calibration focal-range overlap when EXIF focal-range data is available. Tests cover lookup with and without a camera and an overflowing focal value.

Some photos could receive an unrelated lens correction. The risk is narrow, but named-lens matching should be fixed before relying on the new fallback.

- Line 163: Update the model normalization in the flow that computes `md` with
`strip_maker` so that when `mk` is empty, it uses the candidate maker to
normalize the EXIF model. Preserve the existing behavior when EXIF make is
present, ensuring `find_camera` can match models such as “Canon PowerShot S5 IS”
with missing make metadata.
- Line 235: Update the focal-range parsing and exif_focal_range validation to
reject non-finite parsed values; after expanding lo and hi, reject the range if
either bound is non-finite before matching calibration points.
- Line 211: Prevent the find_fixed_lens fallback in find_lens_named from
bypassing best_lens’s exact-name eligibility rule; restrict that fallback to
find_lens or preserve exact-name matching when handling the None branch.
Specification-only lookups through find_lens_named must not return a profile
with a non-exact name.

…no-make models and infinite focals
find_lens_named no longer falls back to the camera's mount (it must stay an
exact-name match); a model without an EXIF make still finds the camera when
it starts with the maker's word; infinite focal lengths parsed from EXIF are
ignored and a non-finite widened range matches nothing. Review feedback.

Do not use the fixed-lens fallback for every unmatched lens model.
lens_profiles::lookup sends every Some(m.lens_model) to find_lens. If name matching fails, find_lens can return the sole no-mm profile on the camera mount, even when the explicit lens model has no focal range. This can apply a fixed-camera correction to an unrelated named lens.
Keep fixed-lens matching for a validated name-free specification, but route it through an explicit spec-only path. find_lens should remain name-based for explicit lens models.

Camera lookup:find_camera now drops the maker's word from both the EXIF model and the database model before comparing, so "Canon PowerShot S5 IS" and "PowerShot S5 IS" meet, and a file with no make still finds the camera when its model starts with the maker. If stripping would leave nothing, the original tokens are kept.
Built-in lenses: when the normal lens match finds nothing and a camera is known, find_fixed_lens considers profiles whose mount equals the camera's mount, skipping any whose name contains an "mm" token. It gives up when there are no candidates or more than four, which keeps interchangeable mounts out. With a focal range in the EXIF text it picks the profile with the largest share of calibration focals inside the range widened by 10 %, and with no range it accepts only a single candidate. Non-finite or overflowing ranges are ignored.
Because it is only a fallback for a known camera, a match that exists today cannot change. The tests cover the camera-plus-range case, no camera giving no match, the exact-name lookup not using the fallback, and an overflowing focal length. The hostile-numbers test runs a large grid of nonsense inputs through the corrections and checks they come back finite or None, and feeds odd names to the lookups. I found no defect. The gate is green at this head. I did not run the tests, and the focal-range heuristic is untested on real lensfun data.
