#2361: lens corrections crop inside the corrected photo - #3012
After turning on a lens profile, the camera's own distortion correction, manual Distortion or Chromatic Aberration, the photo shows grey corners or coloured edge marks where the corrected image no longer covers the frame. Lightroom always crops just inside the corrected photo; here that only happened with Constrain Crop on.
Change
crates/pipeline/src/geometry.rs: the crop is constrained to the corrected image whenever a lens/CA/distortion correction is active, regardless of Constrain Crop (previously constrain_to_image was gated on constrain_crop). The check covers every colour plane when the planes differ, so CA can't leave a coloured fringe at the edge. Perspective (Upright / manual transforms) still keeps its corners unless Constrain Crop is on, as in Lightroom. What's New entry added.
Sources: own design
Tests
New lens_corrections_leave_no_blank_corners (tests_geometry.rs): barrel, pincushion, distortion+CA and CA alone leave < 0.2 % blank; a keystone still keeps its blank corners.
Lens profile, in-camera distortion, manual distortion, and chromatic aberration corrections now crop the corrected photo to reduce gray corners and edge marks, even when Constrain Crop is off.
Perspective corrections still require Constrain Crop to avoid blank corners; combining perspective adjustments with lens corrections may leave some blank areas when Constrain Crop is off.
Crop behavior continues to respect the Constrain Crop setting when enabled, keeping the corrected image within the photo’s boundaries.
Lens profiles, embedded camera warps, manual Distortion and lateral CA always shrink the crop about its centre
until it holds no blank past the source's edge, as Lightroom does; perspective still needs Constrain Crop. The
check covers every colour plane when the planes differ, so CA can't leave a coloured edge.

Walkthrough
Lens corrections now constrain the crop when crop application is enabled, even if perspective constraint is disabled. Perspective corrections remain conditional on that setting. The changes add regression coverage and a release note.

Summary
Constrain crop for lens corrections crates/pipeline/src/geometry.rs, crates/pipeline/src/tests_geometry.rs, docs/whats-new.md
The crop constraint includes lens corrections when perspective constraint is disabled. It includes perspective only when configured. Regression tests check blank-pixel thresholds for distortion and chromatic aberration settings. A release note describes the cropping behavior.
Constrain crop after chromatic aberration estimation crates/pipeline/src/lib.rs
After estimating lateral chromatic aberration, frame creation constrains the crop when crop application is enabled, using the configured perspective constraint setting.
The test may pass while a future change reintroduces colored edge artifacts; add per-channel bounds coverage as follow-up.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title "#2361: lens corrections crop inside the corrected photo" describes the main change. The PR makes the crop fit inside the corrected image when lens, chromatic aberration, or distortion correction is active, even without Constrain Crop. The title names the main behavior and the feature area. It does not cover the perspective exception or the What's New entry, which is acceptable. The issue number prefix is a minor style point, not a clarity problem. The title is specific enough for a teammate to understand the primary change.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #2361 reports white borders after manual distortion correction. The PR automatically constrains the crop for lens, distortion, and chromatic-aberration corrections. The new geometry test covers distortion, chromatic aberration, and a perspective case. The perspective case confirms that perspective corrections retain blank corners unless Constrain Crop is enabled. The issue body does not define a separate button acceptance criterion.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes in geometry.rs and lib.rs implement the crop constraint for the issue behavior. The test adds regression coverage for that behavior. The What's New entry documents the behavior. No unrelated change is shown in the reviewed scope.

Cover per-channel source bounds, not blank pixels.
blank_fraction cannot detect this regression. Warp::frame checks only the green-plane source position, and sample_bilinear clamps an out-of-range red or blue sample to the source edge. The result is an edge-clamped channel, not a blank channel. A per-channel blank check would therefore also miss the regression.
Add an assertion that detects edge-clamped samples or directly checks source bounds for each CA plane. The distortion-only cases can cover the general automatic-crop behavior, but they do not protect the all-channel CA constraint.

…teral CA estimate
frame_for adds the estimated lateral CA after Frame::with_lens has constrained the crop, so re-run the
constraint then (review feedback).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
constrain_to_image now always runs after the frame is built (it previously ran only with Constrain Crop), but takes with_persp: with Constrain Crop it uses the full warp as before, and without it a copy of the warp with the perspective set to identity, so lens profile, embedded camera warp, manual distortion and CA keep the crop inside the photo while a keystone fix keeps its corners. If nothing moves pixels after the perspective is dropped, it returns early. The fit test now checks every colour plane (all three when per_channel(), else just green), and frame_for runs it again after the estimated lateral CA is added, so the crop is inside every plane in that case too. A second pass starts from the already shrunk crop, so it can only shrink it further.
The test covers positive and negative distortion and CA with no blank corners in the render, and a keystone with distortion that still shows blank corners. I did not check the 0.002 blank-fraction threshold against real photos. I found no defect. The gate is green at this head. I did not run the tests.
