fallback_cache()when a font is registered. Otherwise a cached "no fallback" result persists after registration.
add_font_dataandadd_sourceclearfamily_faces_cache(). They do not clearfallback_cache().database_revision()now forceslayout_richto rebuild layouts after registration. The rebuilt layout still callsfonts::fallback_for, and that function returns stale cached results.Trigger:
- Text contains a character with script
FallbackScript::Other, for example a private-use or symbol character. No current face covers the character.system_fallbackreturnsNone.fallback_forcachesNoneunder(c >> 8, prefer).- The user calls
add_font_datawith a font that covers the character.- The new face is not checked in the "loaded already" step, because its
bytesOnceLockis still empty.- The cache hit returns
prefer.Consequence: the rebuilt layout still renders the missing glyph. This defeats the PR objective of refreshing layouts after registration.
Fix: clear
fallback_cache()in both registration functions.Proposed fix
pub fn add_font_data(data: Vec<u8>) -> Vec<FaceId> { let data = Arc::new(data); let names = read_faces_bytes(&data); let mut d = db().write().unwrap_or_else(|e| e.into_inner()); let ids = names.into_iter().map(|n| push(&mut d, info_from(n, FaceData::Shared(data.clone()), "user"))).collect(); family_faces_cache().write().unwrap_or_else(|e| e.into_inner()).clear(); + fallback_cache().write().unwrap_or_else(|e| e.into_inner()).clear(); ids }Apply the same change in

Addressed the fallback-cache feedback in 2273721. Both font-registration paths invalidate fallback results, and revisioned cache keys prevent an in-flight old search from restoring a stale miss. The reproduction failed before the fix for both registration paths; the font owner reports 68 tests passing with no ignores. The bundled companion-PR candidate passed cargo xtask ci: 3,718 passed, 0 failed, 33 ignored; formatting, strict all-targets Clippy, policy checks, and WASM (32 crates) passed. This is one combined full-suite run. @coderabbitai review |

Addressed in ca7cbd7. Family fallback cache lookup and insertion now use the same database revision captured before resolving faces. A controlled two-thread test reproduces the stale insertion after registration on the prior head, then passes with this fix and selects the preferred newly registered font. All 20 focused font tests passed. The frozen combined companion-PR candidate also passed cargo xtask ci: 3,721 passed, 0 failed, 33 ignored; strict all-targets Clippy, formatting, policies and WASM (32 crates) passed. @coderabbitai review |

Dependencies and merge order
Proposed landing position 7. Actual stacked prerequisite: #1890. Also land #1907 first in the proposed sequence, then update this branch to combine the captured locale and database revision in the family-cache key and adapt the concurrent-registration test calls. #1907 is a coordinated integration requirement, not a prerequisite for this feature to work independently. We own that branch update; the resolution is already saved in the tested combined tree.
Full nine-PR index, merge instructions, audited heads and validation evidence. The first five positions are independent, not a serial dependency chain. Combined CI evidence is not a claim of nine standalone full-suite passes.
Text already laid out with a substitute font kept the substitute's glyphs and missing-font flag after the original font was registered. Include the append-only font database revision in the layout cache key so the next identical layout request uses the newly registered font.
This follow-up is stacked on #1890; merge that prerequisite first. The cache defect reproduces on the common base too, so it was not introduced by #1890's test-isolation change.
Synthetic-font regressions cover fallback-to-original registration, the nine metric aliases, original-family precedence, styles, names, variable instances and isolated concurrent face lists. The change adds one database read and retains bounded cache eviction.
Validation:
cargo xtask cipassed on the exact combined companion treeb6d9dfbae430320d08db268332e366129af03709: 3,693 passed, zero failed, 41 explicitly recorded ignored checks; formatting, strict workspace Clippy, PDF policy, layers, 39 asset checks and 32-crate WASM check passed. Source and lockfile were verified unchanged afterward.The combined gate used pinned heads of #1827, #1889, #1890, #1891, #1907, #1915, #1916 and #1922, plus the frozen font/audio follow-ups and CI tooling. It is combined-integration evidence, not a claim that this standalone PR passed the whole repository gate. Hosted platform checks and fresh automated review remain pending.
