Text: a Columns dialog sets the number of columns and the spacing between them - #1301
Home › Columns offered 1, 2 or 3 columns, always 18 pt apart, and Format Shape › Text Options › Text Box had the same three buttons. The spacing could not be seen or changed, and picking a number reset it to 18 pt. In PowerPoint, Format Shape › Text Box › Columns opens a Columns dialog with a Number box and a Spacing box in inches (Microsoft Support, Indezine), and Home › Columns › More Columns… opens the same settings (Allyant).
What changes:
Home › Columns › More Columns… and a Columns… button in Format Shape › Text Box open a Columns dialog with Number (1 to 16) and Spacing (in), filled in from the text box being edited or the first selected shape. OK sends only the fields changed from what the dialog showed, in one undo step, so a field left as shown keeps each selected text box's own value; with neither changed, OK closes without an edit.
format.columns with no fields opens the dialog, as format.paragraphDialog and shape.sizePosition do. A key left out keeps the text box's own value; before, a missing count meant 1 column and a missing spacing meant 0 pt.
A count that is not a whole number from 1 to 16, or a spacing that is not a number, is an error and changes nothing. Before, an out-of-range count was clamped to 1 to 16, a count that was not a whole number set 1 column, and a spacing that was not a number set 0 pt.
ROADMAP.md gets a progress-log row, and the dialog count in docs/ui-parity.md and docs/gaps.md goes from 41 to 42.
Tests (each fails on main):
cmd::format::tests::columns_set_the_number_and_spacing_and_a_left_out_key_keeps_its_value: one undo step, and a left-out key keeps its value.
cmd::format::tests::columns_with_no_fields_open_the_dialog_with_the_shapes_values: no edit, and a columns dialog request with the shape's count and spacing.
cmd::format::tests::columns_reject_a_bad_number_or_spacing_without_editing: 0, 17, 2.5, "two" and a text spacing are errors.
dialogs::columns_dialog_tests::more_columns_sets_the_number_and_spacing_in_one_undo: the Home menu item opens the filled-in dialog, and OK sets 2 columns 36 pt apart.
dialogs::columns_dialog_tests::format_shape_columns_button_opens_the_dialog: the Format Shape button opens it.
dialogs::columns_dialog_tests::ok_with_the_spacing_unchanged_keeps_the_exact_spacing: 9 pt shows as 0.12 in and stays 9 pt.
dialogs::columns_dialog_tests::a_bad_number_keeps_the_dialog_open_and_changes_nothing: bad Number or Spacing shows an error in the dialog.
dialogs::columns_dialog_tests::a_field_left_as_shown_keeps_each_text_box_s_own_value: with two text boxes selected, changing only Number keeps each one's spacing, and changing only Spacing keeps each one's number.
dialogs::columns_dialog_tests::ok_with_nothing_changed_closes_without_an_edit: no undo step and no change.
On Windows 11 (x86-64) with rustc 1.99.1, on top of main at 38d2ade2, with open #1292, #1298 and #1300 merged in (#1300 fixes status::tests::a_long_language_name_leaves_the_notes_button_clickable, which fails on main when craft-fonts has no Inter; #1298 fixes the intermittent control_server test failures, one of which stopped this pull request's CI gate):
cargo xtask ci passes its 8 steps: 1,889 tests passed, 0 failed, 6 ignored.

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added a Columns dialog, accessible from the Home menu and Format Shape pane, to set text column count and spacing.
The dialog shows the text box’s current settings, supports 1–16 columns, and validates changes before applying them. Unchanged settings are preserved, and changes can be undone together.
Cancel closes the dialog without applying changes; invalid values display an error and keep the dialog open.

Walkthrough
The change adds a Columns dialog for text column count and spacing. It adds entry points in the Home menu and Format Shape pane. The format.columns command opens the dialog when called without fields and updates only supplied properties.

Summary
Command defaults and partial updates crates/engine/src/cmd/format.rs
format.columns opens the dialog with current values when no fields are supplied. It validates and updates count and spacing independently.
The dialog validates inputs and applies changes through format.columns. The Home menu and Format Shape pane open it. Tests cover updates, validation, and spacing precision. Documentation records the dialog and entry points.

Before / after behavior
observed — Modified behavior in ROADMAP.md: The progress log adds the Columns dialog entry, documenting its two UI locations, the 1–16 column range, spacing in inches, one-step undo, and format.columns behavior when fields are omitted.
observed — Modified behavior in ROADMAP.md: Revision history adds a trivial entry for the Columns dialog and records that scores and milestone names are unchanged.
observed — Modified behavior in crates/engine/src/cmd/format.rs: The format.columns command now documents optional count and spacing fields, preserves an omitted field, and opens the Columns dialog when both are absent.
observed — Modified behavior in crates/engine/src/cmd/format.rs: Added current_columns, which reads the edited text shape or first selected shape, resolves inherited body properties when available, and returns the column count clamped to 1–16 and spacing floored at zero; missing document, shape, or values yield defaults of one and zero.

With several text boxes selected, the dialog shows the first one's
values. OK sent both Number and Spacing, so changing one of them also
gave every box the first box's value of the other. OK now sends only
the fields that differ from what the dialog showed, and with neither
changed it closes without an edit.
