Visitors can choose a local crossing area, compare their eligible northbound lane and find camera views directly on the homepage. Camera discovery now includes San Diego and eight other corridors, with clear distinctions between in-page players, road snapshots, official external links and areas with no verified source.

Crossing decisions and camera discovery

  • Put local comparisons before optional border-wide charts. Remember nine corridor choices, support shareable ?area= URLs and Back navigation, and preserve URL-based behavior when storage is blocked.
  • Compare Standard, Ready Lane, SENTRI or pedestrian reports using canonical port identities and familiar search aliases. Distinguish closures, unconfirmed hours and missing reports. Suppress shortest-wait claims for ties, insufficient comparable reports and stale/unknown/future retrieval timestamps. Preserve raw CBP lane clocks and distinguish queue time from total journey time.
  • Add a visible Camera feeds section with its own nine-area picker. Switching cameras/crossings or collapsing removes the previous image/player; selecting an area alone makes no provider request. Existing crossing cards also link to the camera section.
  • In-page coverage: ten official-source YouTube views across five El Paso–Juárez bridges, four official IPCamLive views at Eagle Pass Bridge II, and two official Caltrans road snapshots at San Ysidro/Otay Mesa. Caltrans views are labeled U.S. roads near the crossing, not Mexico-to-U.S. inspection queues.
  • Caltrans snapshots load only after selecting a view, refresh only on request and keep the provider's image timestamp. Failed image loads expose a visible status and the official viewer link. Provider-returned “Temporarily Unavailable” placeholders remain visible.
  • Official source links: Nogales DeConcini/Mariposa, Laredo Bridges I/II and Pharr. Pharr is assigned to port 230502; Anzalduas 230503 is explicitly excluded. Calexico–Mexicali, Brownsville–Matamoros and Progreso–Nuevo Progreso show that no public source was verified in this batch.
  • Share the area's canonical link using neutral copy; general snapshot shares retain the actual retrieval timestamp. Provide clipboard failure feedback and a dialog description.

Search and accessibility

  • Deliver visible semantic report HTML on the homepage and all 42 canonical crossing pages before app JavaScript runs, including original retrieval timestamps, report clocks, missing/closed states and provider-specific camera links.
  • Keep snapshots specific to their crossing. Titles distinguish crossing cameras, road cameras and external camera sources. Preserve canonical/hreflang identity and structured-data guards; query-based area views do not create duplicate canonical pages.
  • Make offscreen crawl-link navigation inert and hidden from assistive technology while retaining the visible no-JavaScript navigation path.
  • This is a snapshot fallback, not full React SSR or a claim of bilingual prerendering, ranking gains, Core Web Vitals improvements or WCAG certification.

Complete release gate passed for exact source c6cf396879894cb447c877827177e5c98db7c006:

  • Production build, 27 trust/comparison tests, 18 metadata/snapshot tests and existing security/data/freshness checks.
  • Desktop/mobile route checks: 402 browser navigations total.
  • EN/ES local selection/persistence, storage failure, lane eligibility, sharing, camera discovery and viewport fit.
  • Camera checks cover deferred provider loading, area/crossing/view switching, cleanup, San Diego snapshot loading/refresh/failure and official-viewer fallback, Eagle Pass iframe selection, Nogales source-only links and Calexico missing-coverage state. Third-party providers are mocked/intercepted in CI; these checks do not assert provider uptime.
  • Mobile no-JavaScript homepage → crossing → official-camera path, visible reports, original timestamps and viewport fit; FAQ/JSON-LD and reciprocal language metadata guards pass.
  • Entry JS: 60.49 KB gzip / 62 KB budget. CSS: 19.10 KB gzip / 20 KB budget.

Exact-source Vercel preview is READY:
https://borderpulse-q4df2f5uc-sbc1-codes-projects.vercel.app/

The final preview displayed 42 crossings with a retrieval timestamp of Oct 13, 9:13 PM PDT and no stale warning. Eagle Pass Bridge II view 1 played in the cloud browser (video readyState 4, currentTime 47.91 seconds, paused false). Both Caltrans snapshots loaded their current provider “Temporarily Unavailable” image; refresh changed the request URL. Nogales's official source link and Calexico's explicit missing-coverage state were inspected. This does not verify uptime of every view. Earlier Paso del Norte players rendered but remained buffering after Play; their real playback remains unverified.

An earlier preview's CBP function returned 502 with upstream CBP 403; it correctly showed the original timestamped fallback and stale warning. Later previews recovered without API, source-path or egress changes. This observation does not establish a resolved root cause.

No new dependency, paid service, database, signup/report form or production workflow change. Camera sources connect directly from the visitor's browser; no relay/recording is introduced. docs/CROSSING-FEATURES.md records source receipts and requirements for real email alerts/shared reports. Current Search Console reads were unavailable because the connected provider reported an ended trial; no subscription was started.

Prepared for review; not merged or published to production.
