Nice work, the idea is solid. Did you get a chance to try it in samesystem? Would be great to try it out on a branch pointing at these changes, run CI, and try .nested on one attribute like current_contract in soft mode.

Have a soft/hard lock with the soft lock writing a rails warning where hard locks the user out from the data.
