Requirements

  • Python 3.7 or newer
  • uv package manager

Build

From the project root, run:

uv sync

Run

Run the program with:

python main.py

Or, after uv sync, run it via the installed entry point:

uv run vhd-sim

Interactive visual demo

A Flask web app lets you visualize the drive's blocks as a color-coded grid in the browser and interact with it live — save files, read them back, delete them, and watch blocks fill up and get freed in real time. Since it's a normal Flask app, it can also be deployed and hosted online.

python app.py

Or, after uv sync:

uv run vhd-web

Then open http://localhost:5000 in your browser.

Development workflow

  1. Make source changes in main.py.
  2. Run uv sync to rebuild the project.
  3. Run python main.py to verify your changes before committing.
