Corning Falcon 6 well Clear Flat Bottom 353046

Closes #33

Decisions needed

  • A1 position is derived, not published. Corning publishes no A1 offset for
any Falcon multiwell plate, and its cell culture dimension sheet, which does
carry A1 Row/Column Offset columns, lists only Costar catalogue numbers. The
offsets here centre the 2 x 3 grid on the footprint: 24.575 mm from the left,
23.115 mm from the top. That is supported by the Costar 6-well drawing
    DWG00673, which dimensions A1 directly at 24.76 / 23.16 mm on a 39.12 mm pitch
and a 127.76 x 85.47 mm footprint, i.e. centred to within 0.1 mm in both axes.
(The Costar 24-well is the format that is not centred; the 6-well is.) Not
checked against a plate in hand.
  • One pitch value for both axes. The sheet prints a single "Center to
center = 39.24". It is used for both axes, as on every Falcon multiwell sheet.
DWG00673 dimensions the equivalent Costar spacing "Typ." on both runs, which
supports it, but it is still a reading rather than a printed pair.
  • Two existing files describe this same mould under the old diameter
    convention.
    Corning_351146_6_well_plate.json and
Corning_353502_6_well_plate.json put the 35.71 mm well opening in
diameter, which was the convention when they were written. This file follows
the current one: diameter is the 35.00 mm floor and diameter_top the
35.71 mm opening. The three files are otherwise consistent. Correcting the
two older ones is left out of this PR deliberately — say if it should be
    folded in instead.

Sources used

  • Corning Life Sciences, "Customer Technical Data Sheet – Multiwell TC Plates
    – 6 Well", document LSR00001 Rev 5, (c) 2013-2018
    — controlling, cited as
drawing_reference. Page 2 carries the catalogue table and the lid, plate and
    well dimension blocks.
  • Corning eCatalog page for 353046 — cited as web_reference. Gives the
catalogue title ("Falcon 6-well Clear Flat Bottom TC-treated Multiwell Cell
Culture Plate, with Lid, Individually Wrapped, Sterile, 50/Case"), round
wells, growth area 9.6 cm², TC-treated, sterile, lid included, media working
    volume 2.5-3 mL.
  • Traps hit, for the next person:
    • There is no per-catalogue drawing and no per-catalogue Product
      Description
      for the Falcon multiwell plates:
      certs-ecatalog.corning.com/life-sciences/product-descriptions/353046.pdf
is a 404. LSR00001 is the whole of the evidence.
    • www.corning.com 403s a bare curl. The TDS downloads with the full browser
header set (UA + Accept + Referer + Sec-Fetch-*); the product image needs
the same plus Referer: https://www.corning.com/. ecatalog.corning.com
      answers a plain browser user-agent.
    • Unlike the 24-well sheet LSR00003, LSR00001 prints a single dimension
block for every catalogue number in its table, the notched plate included
      —
      so 353046 / 353224 / 353934 / 353846 / 351146 / 353502 are one mould. Do not
      assume the 24-well sheet's two-column layout here.

Judgement calls

  • diameter = 35.00 mm is the well bottom ("Bot. Int. Diameter"), where the
sample sits; diameter_top = 35.71 mm is the opening ("Top Int.
Diameter"). Cross-checked: the sheet's own growth area of 9.619 cm² gives
2·√(9.619/π) = 35.00 mm, which agrees with the printed bottom diameter to
0.004 mm and confirms that figure is the imaged surface.
  • A1 offsets are derived by centring — see Decisions needed.
  • A single printed pitch is taken as equal in both axes — see Decisions
    needed.
  • bottom_elevation / floor_height are left out. Subtracting the sheet's
    own numbers, 20.19 − 17.65 − 1.52 = 1.02 mm would be the underside of the well
floor above the resting plane, but only if the well rim is flush with the top
of the plate, which the sheet neither states nor draws. It is recorded in
notes as arithmetic rather than written into the file.
  • No skirt is dimensioned on the sheet, so skirt_outline, skirt_height and
skirt_thickness are left out and the ANSI/SLAS defaults are assumed. Wall
thickness between wells is not published either.
  • height is the plate alone (20.19 mm, sheet F); height_with_lid is
    21.43 mm ("Ht. w/lid on"). The lid (127.20 × 85.14 × 10.03 mm) is not
    modelled.
  • surface_treatments records tissue culture, which is 353046's own surface;
the siblings sharing this geometry include non-treated (351146) and Primaria
    (353846) items, named in notes.
