[Snyk] Security upgrade markdown-it from 12.3.2 to 14.3.2 - #23
If you are using the Yarn feature zero-installs that was introduced in Yarn V2, note that this PR does not update the .yarn/cache/ directory meaning this code cannot be pulled and immediately developed on as one would expect for a zero-install project - you will need to run yarn to update the contents of the ./yarn/cache directory.
If you are not using zero-install you can ignore this as your flow should likely be unchanged.
Vulnerabilities that will be fixed with an upgrade:
This upgrade spans two major versions (v13 and v14) and introduces significant breaking changes, most notably the package's transition to an ESM module in v14.
Key Breaking Changes:
v14.0.0 - ESM Rewrite: The package has been rewritten to be an ECMAScript module (ESM). While a CJS fallback is provided, this is a major change that will likely require updates to your project's import syntax (e.g., from const markdownit = require('markdown-it') to import markdownit from 'markdown-it') and could affect your build process.
v14.0.0 - Dropped Environment Support: Support for "ancient browsers" has been removed. The library now uses modern JavaScript features like .fromCodePoint.
v13.0.0 - Internal API Changes: A new text_special token type was introduced. While this token is not present in the final rendered output, this can break custom plugins, particularly those that perform typographic transformations.
Recommendation:
Due to the ESM migration, this upgrade requires careful testing. You will likely need to update how you import the library. Review any custom plugins for compatibility with the new internal token structure from v13.
