Bug Fixes

  • ⚠️ lualatex-math is installed into the image. unicode-math-luatex.sty requires it, and it was missing, so the Sphinx check job of the dev pipeline failed:

! LaTeX Error: File `lualatex-math.sty' not found.
    /usr/local/share/miktex-texmf/tex/latex/unicode-math/unicode-math-luatex.sty:56:
==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced!

It came in with unicode-math in Install the Unicode font machinery in the base image #24 and had worked only because the images enable [MPM]AutoInstall=1: the package was fetched at compile time from whichever mirror answered. When one doesn't, the build fails instead.

Changes

  • Nine further packages that were being auto-installed are now listed, for the same reason - a build should not depend on a mirror answering while a document compiles.
    • Common.list: ctablestack, hypcap, luatexbase, stringenc (next to lualatex-math above). The first two support lualatex and unicode-math; the latter two belong to the oberdiek family, which MiKTeX splits into separate packages, so listing oberdiek does not cover them.
    • Sphinx.list: ellipse, fontawesome7, idxlayout, pict2e, ragged2e - all loaded by Sphinx' generated LaTeX.

Known Issues

  • Four more packages sit in the local installation tree without being named by a document: atbegshi, atveryend, lua-uni-algos and unicode-data. They appear to be dependency pull-ins of packages that are listed, so they are deliberately not added here - adding a package no document loads would be guesswork.

Related Issues and Pull-Requests

  • Follows Upgrade the base image to Debian 13 Trixie #32 (Debian 13 Trixie), whose dev pipeline surfaced this.
  • Method: each package was located in the user installation tree of a local MiKTeX - where an auto-install lands, as opposed to the shared tree the distribution fills - and then confirmed to be loaded as a *.sty by the LaTeX output of a real Sphinx project. Packages that only appeared in the tree, without a document loading them, were left out.
  • This is the class of failure that makes a pipeline depend on a mirror: the same commit builds or fails depending on what answered. A run that fails this way names a missing file, so it is diagnosable - unlike the aborts Print MiKTeX's own logs when a document fails #33 addresses.

A Sphinx document loads ten packages that neither list names. The images
carry '[MPM]AutoInstall=1', so they were fetched at compile time from
whichever mirror answered - and when one doesn't, the build fails with a
missing file. 'lualatex-math' did exactly that on dev:

! LaTeX Error: File `lualatex-math.sty' not found.

All ten were found in the user installation tree of a local MiKTeX, which is
where an auto-install lands, and each one is loaded as a '*.sty' by the
generated document.
