Example

Today three Prisma 8 pages describe the Node.js requirement in three different ways:

  • The Composer getting-started page says "Node.js 22.18 or newer."
  • The Next.js guide says "Node.js 22.18 or newer (on the 24 line, 24.11 or newer; 24 recommended)."
  • The Drizzle migration guide says "Node.js 24 or later."

The first two read as allowing every release from 22.18 up, including release lines Prisma does not support. The third excludes Node.js 22, which Prisma does support. A reader cannot tell which page is right.

The published packages are not consistent either. create-prisma@0.14.2 declares "node": "^22.18.0 || ^24.11.0 || >=26.0.0". prisma@8.0.0-rc.22 and @prisma/composer@0.29.1 declare "node": ">=22.18.0".

Many of the same pages also told readers to upgrade to npm 11.6 before running npm create prisma@latest, because create-prisma refused npm 10. create-prisma 0.14.2 removed that check (prisma/create-prisma#128).

Decision

Every Prisma 8 tool (Prisma ORM, the prisma CLI, Composer, create-prisma) supports one Node.js range: ^22.18.0 || ^24.11.0 || >=26.0.0. create-prisma already declares it. Parallel PRs set the same range in the engines field of the prisma CLI (prisma/prisma-cli#343), Composer (prisma/composer#351) and the Prisma ORM packages; until those are released, their engines still say >=22.18.0.

Every Prisma 8 page now states the range in the same words: "Node.js 22.18 or newer on the 22 line, 24.11 or newer on the 24 line, or 26 or newer". Bullet lists use the short form "Node.js 22.18 or newer on the 22 line, 24.11 or newer on the 24 line, or 26 or newer (24 recommended)".

No page asks readers to upgrade npm any more. Where a page lists prerequisites, it says the npm that ships with a supported Node.js release works, which is npm 10 on Node.js 22.

Two framework guides need more than the base range, because the framework does. Nuxt needs Node.js 22.22.3 or newer on the 22 line, 24.15 or newer on the 24 line, or 26 or newer. The SolidStart 2 template needs Node.js 24, so that guide asks for 24.11 or newer on the 24 line, or 26 or newer.

How the pages changed

  1. Prerequisite lists and sentences now use the one wording. Pages that already recommended Node.js 24 still do.
  2. Pages that explain why a version is needed keep the reason. Composer hands TypeScript files straight to Node, which runs .ts files only from 22.18.0. Migrations run node migration.ts for the same reason.
  3. The Release status page is the one place that states the Prisma 8 system requirements. It now states the range and says the npm shipped with each of those Node.js releases works.
  4. The create-prisma prerequisites no longer require npm 11.6, show the npm install --global npm@11 step, or quote the old npm error. They now say that on an unsupported Node.js, create-prisma stops before it writes any files and prints the required range, except under Bun or Deno. They list Yarn 4.10 or newer, which is what create-prisma supports. The template table notes Nuxt's narrower range.
  5. Guides that said "Node.js 24 or later" now state the range, except SolidStart (see the Decision). Where they said "Node.js 24 runs TypeScript directly", they now say "Node.js runs TypeScript directly", because every supported release does.
  6. The guide-writing page and its template now tell authors to use the short form in a guide's prerequisites.
  7. The contract emit page's upgrade script said it needed Node 24. It uses only node:crypto, node:fs and node:path, so the page now says it runs on any supported Node.js.

Pages changed

Getting started and tutorials:

  • (index)/index.mdx, (index)/getting-started.mdx, (index)/full-stack-tutorial.mdx

Prisma ORM entry pages and quickstarts:

  • (index)/prisma-orm/index.mdx, create-prisma.mdx, from-scratch.mdx

Composer and Compute:

  • composer/getting-started.mdx, composer/limitations.mdx
  • compute/getting-started.mdx, compute/limitations.mdx, (index)/prisma-compute/deploy.mdx

ORM and CLI reference and concepts:

  • orm/release-status.mdx, orm/migrations/how-migrations-work.mdx, orm/migrations/editing-a-migration.mdx, orm/reference/migration-api.mdx, cli/contract-emit.mdx

Guides:

  • Frameworks: astro, hono, nestjs, nextjs, nuxt, solid-start, sveltekit, tanstack-start, react-router-7
  • Database: data-migration, multiple-databases, schema-changes
  • Deployment: docker, pnpm-workspaces, turborepo, bun-workspaces, cloudflare-workers
  • Integrations: github-actions, ai-sdk
  • Switching and upgrading: switch-to-prisma-orm/from-sql-orms, from-drizzle, from-mongoose, upgrade-prisma-orm/mongodb, upgrade-prisma-orm/postgresql
  • making-guides.mdx

Pages left as they are

  • Prisma 6 and 7 docs (v7/ folders, upgrade-prisma-orm/v6.mdx), and Prisma 7 pages outside those folders (local Prisma Postgres, the Auth.js, Better Auth, Clerk, Embed Studio, Plasmic, Permit.io and pgfence guides, the AI tutorials and prompts).
  • Pages that say Temporal is built into Node.js 26. That is about a JavaScript feature, not the supported range.
  • making-guides.mdx keeps "Node.js 24 or later" for the machine a guide author uses to test a guide.

Checks

  • pnpm lint:links: no errors.
  • Docs prose check (check-ai-signs.sh) on all changed pages: clean.
  • cspell on the changed pages: no issues.
  • pnpm lint:versions reports two pins of 8.0.0-rc.21 (orm/release-status.mdx line 44, guides/upgrade-prisma-orm/postgresql.mdx line 231) because prisma@latest is now 8.0.0-rc.22. Those lines are not part of this change and fail on main too.

Alternatives considered

  • One system-requirements page, with every other page linking to it. Readers starting a quickstart would have to leave the page to learn whether their Node.js works. The range is short enough to state in place, and the Release status page already serves as the reference.
  • Keeping each page's wording and only fixing the ones that are wrong. The variants are what made the docs read inconsistently. One wording is easier to keep correct and to search for when the range changes.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Updated Node.js requirements across setup guides, quickstarts, migration instructions, and framework guides: supported versions are now Node.js 22.18+, 24.11+, or 26+, with higher minimums noted for some frameworks.
    • Clarified that the npm bundled with Node.js is sufficient, including npm 10 on Node.js 22; Bun and other supported package managers remain available.
    • Updated guidance to reflect that Node.js can run TypeScript files directly.

… 11.6 requirement

Every Prisma 8 page now states the same range: Node.js 22.18 or newer on the 22 line, 24.11 or newer on the 24 line, or 26 or newer, matching create-prisma's engines field (^22.18.0 || ^24.11.0 || >=26.0.0). Pages that explain why (Composer and migration.ts need Node to run .ts files) keep the reason.

create-prisma 0.14.2 removed its npm 11.6 check (prisma/create-prisma#128), so the pages no longer tell readers to upgrade npm; the npm that ships with a supported Node.js release works (npm 10 on Node.js 22).

…nd SolidStart exceptions

Seven Prisma 8 guides and the guide template still said Node.js 24 or later. The Nuxt guide and template row now give the narrower range the Nuxt template needs, and SolidStart keeps its Node.js 24 minimum within the supported range. The create-prisma page says again that create-prisma stops on an unsupported Node.js, and lists Yarn 4.10 or newer. The contract-emit upgrade script runs on any supported Node.js. Release status no longer reads as if Prisma needs npm.

If I have not told you which framework, stop and ask before scaffolding. Valid --template values: minimal (the default), next, hono, nuxt, astro, nest, svelte, tanstack-start, elysia.

Check the versions first: `node --version` must print 22.18 or newer (on the 24 line, 24.11 or newer). If you use npm, `npm --version` must print 11.6.0 or newer; Node.js 22 comes with npm 10, so if npm is older, run `npm install --global npm@11` before step 1.
Check the Node.js version first: `node --version` must print 22.18 or newer on the 22 line, 24.11 or newer on the 24 line, or 26 or newer. The npm that ships with your Node.js release works; on Node.js 22 that is npm 10.

🌐 Web query:

official create-prisma Nuxt Node.js 22.22.3 24.15 version check implementation

💡 Result:

If you’re asking whether **official `create-prisma` with the Nuxt template** accepts Node **22.22.3** or **24.15.x**: **both meet the documented Node-version floor**. Prisma’s current guidance requires Node **22.18+**, or **24.11+** on the 24 line. ([prisma.io](https://www.prisma.io/docs/getting-started?utm_source=openai))

The official `create-prisma` repository lists `nuxt` as a supported template, but the repository page I could inspect does **not establish the CLI’s version-check implementation**. So I can confirm those versions meet the published requirement, but not whether the CLI itself checks the running Node version before scaffolding. ([github.com](https://github.com/prisma/create-prisma))

If you meant a specific `create-prisma` release or want the exact source code path for its check, share the version/commit—implementation details may differ by release.

Apply Nuxt’s higher Node.js minimum in the setup guidance.

The four prompts allow nuxt but check only the common Node.js range. A Nuxt setup on Node.js 22.18–22.22.2 or 24.11–24.14 passes these checks but does not meet the documented Nuxt prerequisite. Add the conditional check to each agent prompt and state it in the prerequisites.

Review comment at @apps/docs/content/docs/(index)/getting-started.mdx at line
73:
Update the setup guidance to include Nuxt’s higher Node.js minimum: 22.22.3 or
newer on the 22 line, 24.15 or newer on the 24 line, or 26 or newer. In
apps/docs/content/docs/(index)/getting-started.mdx, line 15, add this to the
prerequisites; at line 73, add the conditional check to the agent prompt. Add
the same conditional check to apps/docs/content/docs/(index)/index.mdx, line
122, and apps/docs/content/docs/(index)/prisma-orm/index.mdx, line 109.
