Notes on installing OS X Mountain Lion from scratch on my MacBook Air. Not exhaustive, only things I tend to forget.

  • Add an admin user; revoke admin privileges from my account. Then add myself to sudoers.

su admin -c 'sudo visudo'

Add ”plindberg ALL=(ALL) ALL” to the end of the file.

  • Install Xcode from the App Store, and then Command Line Tools from its installer (ie. from the Downloads tab within Preferences).

  • Install Homebrew and then brew install git.

  • Install TheSansMono for Terminal and editing code.

  • Install Sublime Text.

  • Setup shell.

ln -nfs ~/Library/Dropbox/Setup/Shell/bash_profile ~/.bash_profile ln -nfs ~/Library/Dropbox/Setup/Shell/bashrc ~/.bashrc

  • Setup Git.

ln -nfs ~/Library/Dropbox/Setup/Ruby/gemrc ~/.gemrc ln -nfs ~/Library/Dropbox/Setup/Git/gitconfig ~/.gitconfig

  • Setup SSH and then ssh to fleecelabs.se so the passphrase is added to Keychain.

rm -rf ~/.ssh ln -nfs ~/Library/Dropbox/Setup/SSH ~/.ssh chmod 700 ~/.ssh chmod 600 ~/.ssh/id_rsa

  • Install rbenv and ruby-build. Also, install apple-gcc42 so we can install rubies later than 1.9.2-p125.

brew tap homebrew/dupes brew install apple-gcc42
